Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: How To Upgrade And Enable Bluetooth On Older X31 2673

Apr 18, 2014

How do I go about installing Bluetooth on my X31 2673? I plan on getting a Bluetooth speaker to sync with it. I don't have Bluetooth installed on the X31, I will need to upgrade. Are the Bluetooth parts difficult to find for an older X31 2673? Is it worth the cost? Or should I just buy a identical X31 with Bluetooth?

Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X120e Bluetooth Non-existent?

Mar 19, 2011

I ordered my laptop from cdw (will post link when cdw gets finished with their downtime).

On the one I ordered, it said that bluetooth was included. As a general rule I always re-install windows after I get it, and did the same this time because I had a spare copy of windows 7 ultimate. I re-installed all the levono tools and drivers as normal, but when I got to the bluetooth one it said that my laptop did not have bluetooth. So I opened up the computer just enough to verify that the bluetooth daughter card IS there. So whats going on?

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W530 Bluetooth Won't Find Devices

Apr 6, 2014

My W530 suddenly stopped communicating with my MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000, and nothing I try will bring it back.  It does not show under Bluetooth devices, and it will not find anything when I search for devices.  I know the mouse is not at issue, as it will readily pair with an Android device.  Yes, the manual wireless switch is turned on.  Yes, it is turned on in the Fn+F5 OSD.  I've done a BIOS update.  I've updated my system using Lenovo System Update.  I've checked power settings both under driver properties, and in my power plans.  Everything seems to be in place, it's just like the Bluetooth has vanished, but the system doesn't know it.  Yes, I'm POSITIVE my system has Bluetooth... I've been using it for the past 6 months or more.

Recently, I've experienced issues with the mouse losing connection for a few moments at a time, but nothing beyond that.  Then yesterday, It's completely gone, and I can't get it back.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W530 - No Bluetooth Services Found

Mar 18, 2014

I have a feeling that I am missing something very obvious here, but I have looked everywhere and cannot find the Bluetooth services on my laptop (W530, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, ThinkPad 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter for Windows 7).

When I do FN + F5, I get the Lenovo Wireless Radio menu, but it only lists Airplane Mode (off) and 802.11 Wireless (on).

I have check BIOS security settings for I/O devices and Bluetooth is enabled.  However I cannot find any references to Bluetooth under Device Manager ->Network Adaptors.

Is it possible that this laptop is not equiped with Bluetooth?

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W520 - Bluetooth Device Not Recognized By Windows 7

Jul 18, 2011

Just received my Thinkpad W520 4270 CTO with bluetooth installed. It was a DOS workstation that I installed Win 7 x64 Ultimate on and I finally got all the drivers installed but the bluetooth software says there is no BT device connected to my laptop. I checked the BIOS settings and confirmed the BT is enabled. I even disabled it, saved, then enabled it to toggle. Hitting the Fn+5 combo doesn't trigger the light or any "Found New Hardware." When the laptop first boots up the BT light flashes along with the wifi light and the HDD activity light. I haven't yet been able to load another OS, but I'm downloading Arch Linux and BackTrack 5 to test to see it's possibly an OS issue.

I realize the sticky about the "do not update the bluetooth drivers" but I'm not getting my bluetooth to work at all, not even being recognized by the OS as an "unknown device."

I am now able to connect my cell phone to my X230, but instead of enabling me to access the internet via Bluetooth, a dialogue box appears enabling me to play songs that are on my cell phone using the laptop speakers.the bluetooth driver did not come pre-installed on the x230, and I am disappointed that I am not able to use my cell phone as a personal hotspot for my x230.

Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X240 Won't Sleep Properly After Upgrade To Windows 8.1

Apr 27, 2014

I made the mistake of upgrading my X240 to Windows 8.1, and now the sleep function won't work properly.  I've updated all of the drivers and I've been on the phone with Lenovo support to no avail.  Everything worked perfectly before the 8.1 upgrade.

When I close the lid now, the screen goes off, but the computer doesn't go to sleep; if you open the lid, the screen comes back on immediately.  If the lid is closed for a while, and is then reopened, the login screen comes up.  But in the Windows 8.1 settings, it is set to NOT show the login screen.  If the lid is closed for a long time, the computer will shut down completely.

If you go to the Windows menu and click on "Sleep," the screen will go dark although it's clear the computer is still running.  Pressing the on/off button does nothing.  The only way to get the screen to come back on is to shut the computer down completely and restart it.

I tried uninstalling the Lenovo Instant On Beta program, but without that, closing the lid shuts off the screen with no way to wake it up, the same thing that happens by clicking Sleep on the Windows menu.  So it appears that the Instant On Program partially overrides whatever bad behavior is being caused by Windows.

What driver, software, or settings could be causing this?  I've looked at various threads about sleep issues, but none of them seem to apply to my situation, or the solutions they recommended (like unchecking the power management features on some of the drivers) didn't solve the problem.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W530 Ram Upgrade With I7-3520M Dual Core?

Nov 7, 2012

I bought the i7-3520M (dual) and I looked in the manual to see what slots to use for my memory upgrade and the instructions were completely off (where the dummy stick is supposed to be and where it actually was).

I purchased two 8GB (Kingston) sticks to replace the 4GB that came installed.  I took out the original 4GB under the keyboard and replaced it with the new 8GB Kingston.  Everything worked great and I've been using it that way for about a week.

Tonight I decided to go ahead and install the other 8GB.  I assumed it would go in the bottom slot where there's a dummy stick.  I pulled out the dummy and placed my 8GB there.  Turned the laptop on and... nothing.  It wouldn't power on at all.  I took my 8GB out and put the dummy back and it worked fine.  Just to make sure I didn't get a bad stick, I replaced the one under the keyboard with my other 8GB and it worked fine there.  My question is where is my second 8GB supposed to be installed and does that one dummy stick always stay where it is?  It does have a "do not remove" graphic on it, but I thought it was only because the laptop came with one stick and if you were putting two in you would replace it.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W520 - Webcam No Longer Working After Windows 8.1 Upgrade

Nov 18, 2013

I upgraded my w520 from Win 7 to Win 8 last year with zero problems. Now I upgraded my W520 Win 8 to Win 8.1 via the store download. Except the webcam everything works fine.

In e.g. the Skype desktop application, Google Hangouts or the camera app, the built in webcam no longer works.

The green light turns on, but I just get the crossed out camra icon in e.g. the Skype video options. No video.

I see there are no drivers yet for Win 8.1 on the Lenovo support site for the w520 camera. In device manager it still shows the 2011 camera driver 1.1.0.1147 and says "This device is working properly."

But it does not work properly. How to get the camera to work or is it just a matter of waiting for a driver to be released eventually?

I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, camera is enabled in the Bios and permissions are set to give Skype and the camera app access to the camera. I also tried the W530 drives as was suggested elsewhere.

Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: PNY 240GB SSD Upgrade Drive Not Recognized On X220 When Restarting Windows 8.1

Jul 17, 2014

I was able to install a new: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) in my ThinkPad X220 model 4287. I installed the latest BIOS before the upgrade and did a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro. The installed went smooth with no issues. I proceeded in installing all Drivers and utilities. Then I noticed that when I restart Windows, the BIOS does not recognize the drive and proceeds to try to boot from the Network, Intel Boot Agent. It does not seem to recognize the SSD drive.

The only way I can get it to boot from windows again is to TURN OFF using the power button and then turning it back ON. I tried the Lenovo SSD firmware update utility to see if my drive needed an update but it did not find any update for my drive. I also tried to the PNY support site and downloaded the firmware update to see if it found any updates for my drive and none where available. I hope LENOVO can release an update to their SSD firmware update tool to fix my problem. I am also not sure if any of the utilities that I installed may be the root of the problem. So right now the only way I can get Windows to load is to turn off and turn back on the laptop. Windows restarts will not work.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: Unknown Device In Device Manager After Win 8.1 Upgrade On W540

Aug 29, 2014

I'm using the W540 with an ultradock and external monitors. After upgrading my W540 to win8.1 64 bit, device manager is showing an unknown device. I'm not quite sure what it is, but almost everything seems to be working fine and Lenovo solution center isn't finding any driver updates.

I did notice that the solution center hardware scan did not test the video card memory and listed that test as N/A. Video and monitors seem to be working fine though and both nvidia and intel graphics show up in device manager.

Device manager lists the device in question as follows:
Device instance path: ROOTSYSTEM001
Hardware Ids: rootiwdbus

Acer :: How To Enable Bluetooth On D150 Without External Bluetooth Button Under LED

Aug 12, 2009

I have finally tested the Acer Empowering Technology software on my Acer D150.

Great news, the software works to enable/disable the Bluetooth module on the netbook without physically pressing the button. This is great for people like me that do not have the button on top to push the button inside. There are two software needed for people to get this running on the D150. First is the required “Acer Empowering Framework” software and the second is the “Acer ePower Management.” Once both software are installed on the system, the setting to enable/disable the Bluetooth module is in the ePower Management.

Power profiles within windows will probably be reset to default, so those would have to be readjusted if a user changed them. I am actually running Windows Vista on my Acer D150 with the Acer Empowering Technology software for Vista. I am not 100% sure if the software will also work on XP, but from the notebookreview forums, I believe it should work just as fine (but more options on other Empowering Technology software).

(in XP, the driver also works, but need XP edition, not vista editon).
