HP Envy Dv4 Audio :: No Sound Will Play On YouTube

Nov 26, 2014

I use my laptop almost everyday, and it has been fine up until today. I have an HP Envy dv4. I rarely shut it down--I usually just close the lid and leave it like that until I'm ready to use it again. Today, when I opened it and logged in, I went to Youtube. However, no sound will play. I didn't have this problem the last time I used the PC, and can't figure out what's wrong. I don't have any sound with headphones plugged in, and I don't have any sound when I try to use just the PC speakers.

I've already made sure the sound  is definitely on--I have muted it and unmuted it several times, raised and lowered the volume by using the f9 and f10 keys, and nothing happens. I've tried playing media that is stored on my PC, and no sound there either. I've also tried using Rosetta Stone, and it won't open because it says it can't find any sound output.

I have restarted the computer several times, scanned for viruses, and scanned for updates. Nothing has worked.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Flex :: Video Drivers For DX 11 Games

Feb 23, 2014

I am using a Yoga 2 Pro. I absolutely love this laptop/tablet whatever you want to call it, but the biggest issue I seem to be still having is relating to video games. I realize this is not a gaming system, but it would be nice to play some.

The game I am most interested in playing is civilaztion 5. Civ 5 has great touch controls built into the game and works great as a tablet game. However, due to the Yoga 2 Pro's super high res screen, I am unable to run the game at full resolution. The best compromise is 1600x900. The issue is that running the game with touch controls enabled forces the game into direct x 11 mode. In Direct X 11 mode, running at a non standard resolution messes with display scaling. So I end up with a small box centered in the middle of the screen surrounded by black bars, instead of the lower resolution scaling to the display.

There is a work around, that involves putting the resolution to 1920x1080 through the intel control panel first before launching the game, but this is a pain.

This seems to be a driver issue, but lenovo does not seem to care about ever updating drivers as the most recent drivers all seem to be from October or November. I tried to install the intel drivers direct from Intel (which should work fine) but lenovo clearly has some block in place to prevent non authorized drivers from installing.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Flex :: Sound Quality Optimization

Nov 24, 2013

So I have been trying to optimize the sound quality of the headphone jack (I have a pair of Shure SE-420k IEMs and a small headphone amp) while trying to maintain the relatively good sound quality of the built in speakers:

1.  Uninstall Realtek drivers and use the basic Windows 8 drivers (this is what I'm currently doing)

Pros:  These drivers allow me to cleanly increase the bass with the Bass Boost (up to a 24 dB boost with whatever LPF cutoff you want) setting in the driver, so that plus a little bit of EQ for the highs in whatever music player you use (mainly Spotify and the EQualify plugin for me) plus the headphone amp yields satisfactory sound quality in my IEMs.  This is the only way I have achieved a clean, natural sound with deep low end bass in my IEMs from this computer.  It also gets rid of the annoying popup when you plug/unplug headphones.  Static in the line is also reduced.

Cons:  The above way of EQing gets you the perfect signal but at a very low amplitude so you need a headphone amp for your earphones.  And when you listen to music or whatever through the built in speakers, you have to go through the settings and disable the Bass Boost or it will be barely audible.  Even if you do this, the maximum volume is about half of what it was with the Realtek drivers and in apps like Hulu and Netflix this is a real problem.  Dolby Home Theater 4 also goes away when you uninstall Realtek but you don't really need it at this point.

2.  Keep the Realtek drivers and EQ the crap out of the earphones with whatever music software you use

Pros:  The built-in laptop speakers are loud and sound great.

Cons:  Hiss in the line when it comes to earphones.  If you don't EQ, the $400 earphones sound like $10 earphones.  And if you do EQ: 1.  They don't sound natural, 2.  Since most EQs only go to +-12 dB, the only way to get a +24 dB bass boost without distortion is to put your bass frequencies at +12 dB and all your other frequencies at -12 dB and this just sounds weird, also many EQs don't have a 32 Hz band, 3. To sum it up you can't get satisfactory sound out of the headphone jack, 4. There's a popup whenever you plug/unplug the earphones.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Flex :: Audio Jack - No Sound Comes Out Of Headphones

Jan 14, 2014

I have a brand new Yoga 2 Pro that has an audio jack problem. The internal speakers play audio just fine.  When I plug in a pair of headphones into the jack on the right side of the unit, no audio comes out of the headphones.  The internal speaker continues to produce audio as if there is nothing plugged in.

Failed solutions:

I've tried using various types of headphones.  No change.
I tried re-downloading the audio realtek drivers from the lenovo website and re-installing them.  No change.
I tried rolling back the audio driver to the Windows version.  No change.

Is there anything else I can try?   Non-working audio jack makes this a dealbreaker and I'll need to return the unit.

Update: According to Lenovo phone support, all my headphones are 3.5mm and they need to be 2.5mm.  Frankly, I think they have it backwards and what I have are 2.5mm plugs, but either way I'm headed to radio shack to find an adapter to make this work.

Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 Flex :: Mini HDMI For Monitor No Sound

Can I change the settings on the Yoga to allow the sound to come from the computer speakers when plugged into an external monitor using mini HDMI?

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro Flex :: Movement (scrolling) On Screen Interferes With Sound?

Oct 19, 2014

Just picked up my brand new Yoga 3 Pro a few days ago and on the whole I love it, except I've just noticed there's an odd issue when listening to music (whether it be local or streaming thru spotify).

If I'm browsing a document in Word or even when accessing the Lenovo Support screen from the Start menu, any left to right horizontal scrolling (either with the touch screen or touchpad) causes a crackling interference to the sound. I did notice it would crackle as the Discussion forum cards were loading up and appearing too.

It's not the physical speakers themselves because this occurs thru headphones as well.

Strange thing is it doesn't occur when scrolling vertically through a document.

On the whole it's not a HUGE problem, but given it's a brand new 2grand laptop, now while it's still brand new and I haven't even had a chance to load much onto it. How to stop this from happening?

Lenovo Yoga 13 Flex :: Windows 8.1 - Physical Keyboard And Sound Disabled

Oct 24, 2013

So I love my Lenovo yoga until I upgraded to windows 8.1 then all of a sudden every time I signed into my computer via Microsoft account my keyboard and audio would be completely disabled I called Lenovo support they connected to my computer went through all of my settings and uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, nothing his last guess was to tell me to restore my computer.

So I did and as my laptop ramped up it asked to sign into a Microsoft account so I did (keep in mind this computer is fully functional after the restore everything works perfect) as soon as I hit the enter key the keyboard and audio become disabled fully disabled my, physical keyboard. Since the computer worked great right after the restore I also know that it is not a hardware issue as I have already sent it out to get all the sensors replaced its a software problem that revolves around my Microsoft account who do I talk to about this Lenovo? Or Microsoft? Lenovo just keeps telling me that I need to restore my computer completely ignoring the exact issues I am describing ,and as far as Microsoft account, this is not something I control I only own the account Microsoft manages it so why is my Microsoft account disabling my keyboard, again I stress I have done every single driver check there is I have uninstalled all of them and reinstalled.

I have looked through my settings as well as had a technician remotely control my computer to confirm that the computer is in perfect working order no settings out of place and then I restored all my settings to default and then restored the computer and everything works great until I enter my Microsoft account email and password  then my keyboard becomes disabled instantaneously. And yes I was able to sign in using the keyboard

Lenovo Yoga 13 Flex :: Updated To Windows 8.1 - Now No Video Or Audio In Installed Apps

Dec 15, 2012

I upgraded to WIndows 8.1 a few hours ago (available in Store).  However, ever since the upgrade I can no longer watch videos or hear sound in all Apps.

Netflix gives me a message that there is a problem with this system's configuration that prevents Windows from playing protected video and error code W8156-8007007E.

Xbox Music player gives me "Can't play. Make sure your computer's sound and video cards are working and have the latest drivers"  error code  0x00d11d1 (0x8007007e).

All the other Apps that have video, and or audio, give various errors messages (e.g.,  "The video failed to play".

Now I can watch imbedded You Tube videos in Internet Exployer.

I did find KB2756872 that seems to address the problem with protected videos not playing.  However, it doesn't mention if it is compatible with Windows 8.1 and when I follow the manual update method where you make changes in Regedit. I did not see the key that needs to be deleted.

Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X31 - No Sound When Viewing YouTube On IE Or Firefox

Apr 18, 2014

I don't have any sound when viewing Youtube on IE or Firefox. I think it disappeared after a windows xp update (before the Microsoft cut-off date). I still get beeps from the X31 Thinkpad though, just no sound with Youtube or XP on start up for example. By the way Youtube is lagging too since the win xp update -it wasn't before though. I updated all the drivers for the X31 from your Lenovo site but to no avail. I have the latest Flash installed.

Installed Shockwave too Direct X installed - didn't make a difference I think its something to do with the windows xp update cause after that my Thinkpad got stuffed up, Youtube slowed and Soundmax drivers kept disappearing and reappearing. I tried the regedit trick for audio whereby you trick windows into thinking it's service pack 2 (I'm on service pack 3, XP). Also checked Device Manager under audio, no ! marks beside the audio. I tried CCleaner as well. I disabled the video accelerator under settings in Youtube video as well I don't have many 3rd party programs installed on the Thinkpad eg no iTunes, no Skype either.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Flex :: How To Access BIOS

Jun 21, 2014

I purchased a new Flex 2-15 online the past week. The model name shown on the back is "20405". Manufacture date is May 12, 2014. The User Guide refers to a "Novo Button", which is shown in diagrams as being on both the left edge and the right edge near the front. Neither location has a button of any sort. The right edge has a pinhole in the supposed button location. A curved arrow icon is next to the pinhole. I have an inkling this may be some sort of factory reset button. Lacking the Novo button, what is the procedure for accessing the features which the manual says are accessed by pressing this non-existent button?. That is, BIOS, and/or the one touch image backup/restore system?

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Flex :: How To Use Recovery Media

Jun 3, 2014

I paid $60 just for some recovery discs to recover my accidentally formatted Yoga 2 Pro. The discs came with no instructions whatsoever, and using them is weird. First of all, there is two disc 1's, no disc 2, yet there is a disc 3 and 4. Support confirmed this is normal. There is also no prompt between discs 1,1, and 2, so despite making my best guess at when to switch, I can't confidently say I'm not screwing things up.

After the whole process completes, the bios can't find bootable media.

But now I managed to nearly brick my nice little Yoga by spilling juice all over it, and now I am in recovery process.

I checked the original mSATA SSD on another machine, and it looks like it still works fine, all partitions are still there.

In the very beginning after first "drying" the Yoga I got it to boot a couple of times. But now all I get is "Default Boot Device Missing".

Next thing I'll try is putting the SSD in an external USB enclosure and try and boot from there.
