fan is broken and his temps get really high making it impossible to do anything.
He has a old Sony SZ-330.
i upgraded an old Z41WD with a brand new Z11X. The new Notebook arrived today and i was absolutely shocked when I switched it on:
the fan makes a terrible higher pitched sound. Its even more annoying then the Z41WD-Fan. Is my fan broken or does all Z11X-Fans sounds like this?
I dropped my first gen Vaio Z recently and it does not even turn on.. Is there anything I can do with it? I think the motherboard is broken and I'd like to get some value out of it if its possible other than using it as a nice looking paper weight.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've got a UK Sony Z (VGN-Z11VN). I've got a dual boot Vista/7 setup that has been working fine. I used my motion eye camera about 1 month ago in 7 with no probs. Recently it's no longer there. By that I mean no camera installed, no devices in device manager (identified or not). I've not changed anything recently. I booted Vista (not used for months) and it's also absent from there!
There are no options in the bios that I can see to disable to camera, so I'm not sure what's happening.
As it's failed in BOTH vista and 7, and I knew previously it worked I'm assuming there's a hardware failure. Could it somehow be software?
I don't know of any way to be sure without fully re-installing, which I've not got the stomach for just now. Is there a linux live distro on usb or cd/dvd that I could boot from to check if the camera hardware is still present. Alternatively is there any way I can install windows on an external drive (usb/firewire) - I think not, as I don't want to mess with my existing install as I'm pretty busy.
I purchased a fw235j notebook about two months ago and the circular hinge near the charge port popped out so that it sticking out very loose, preventing me from shutting my computer. I think it happened because of the tension of the charger plugged into it. Sort of hard to exlpain, but if you own this notebook you know what part I'm talking about. (And if you don't own it i would recommend against it just because of this serious design flaw lol).
Has this happened to anyone else with a fw235j? If so what did you do to fix it? I tried forcing the piece back in so that i could shut the comp but that isn't working. It looks like a little plastic piece might have snapped off but it's so small that I can't tell for sure. I imagine this could be a pretty common problem because of the way this piece was designed. I mean, mine broke after 2 months of normal use (no falls or anything).
anyway, my computer is still functioning fine-it can still charge, its shuts down and boots up fine. but because of that piece it won't shut which is more than just a little bit annoying.
I have had my TZ for a year and 2 weeks ago the power button wont switch the laptop on, when i push it just wont turn on. (nothing to do with the battery). i sent the laptop to sony and they told me it would cost $900 to fix, so i said no way im going to pay that much. so i am now stuck with the TZ, is there an alternate way to put the laptop on?
View 7 Replies View RelatedSony released a whole load of software updates in conjunction with their Windows 7 Upgrade programme this December.
The majority of them are new versions. Here would be a good example of the files for my machine:

But the Z21 & Z31 have both been updated.
HOWEVER - UNLESS YOU'RE SUICIDAL I wouldn't update them.
7UPG_VAIO Control Color Setting has the wrong URL. You can however work out and download the correct one.
7UPG_VAIO Power Management is an utter abortion. It crashes trying to do a regsvr32 for a critical component and after installation SPMgr.exe will crash at start-up 100% of the time..............
I broke the screen of my sony vaio sr19vn. (part number LTD133EWZX) I tried several screen selling companies, but they don't seem to have the one I need...
So I was wondering if it is possible to just buy another screen of the same size?
I have an SR290 and recently I had a problem with the wireless. The wireless switch at the bottom left corner does not seem to work; when I move it to the ON position, the LED does not light up green to say that it is working. In the Device Manager, the wireless device does show up, and I can disable/enable it, and it indicates that the wireless card is still functioning. Under network connections, the network connection does show up, but it cannot detect any wireless networks. My other devices can pick up the wireless signals.
View 5 Replies View Relatedthe hinge on the left side of my Vaio FW290 laptop just broke, and it's conveniently 1 month after my warranty ended - not that they would have covered it anyways, they probably would have called it physical damage and not under warranty. The hinge is completely seperate from the body and it just flops around, and that's not good considering it is where the power cord plugs into the laptop. I want to replace it, and I have no problem doing it myself, but I don't know exactly what part(s) to get.
I know this is a common problem with this model, so I was hoping someone else here has repaired theirs and could tell me what parts I need. I found a place that sells virtually every replacement part imaginable:[url]. I guessing that the part I need is one of these two:
HINGE LEFT: [url]
LCD BKT LFT: [url]
LCD HINGE COVER-LFT: [url]
i have had 2 problems with my Z for a while and im fed up because its out of warranty and sony will not fix it.
1. The Right hinge i believed is messed up so it does not close correctly. Due to this the right side of the lcd bezel has become cracked on the bottom right i believe because of the tension. (check the pictures). I have to keep a clip on the right bottom side to hold the LCD in place.
2. The notebook is really really hot. Especially using the nvidia. When running any 3d game it takes less than 10 minutes for the temps to get ridiculous on the cpu and gpu. It just turns off when it gets to like 103 or something. Im not sure if its the gpu or cpu but i think they share the same copper pipe for heat. Im going to put arctic silver on both of the chips if i can and clean everything out really good.
My main issue is the hinge. Im not even sure if it is repairable. If it isnt repairable where and how should I go about getting a new Hingle and LCD bezel.
My TZ11's left mouse button has gone a bit 'soft' and it's a bit unreliable now, so using the computer is becoming very frustrating. I can see that it's pretty straight forward to take the keyboard off and get to the trackpad and mouse assembly but I need to know where to get the spare part in the UK.
best source of this part? And also the part number?
Do I need to buy a combined trackpad and mouse assembly or can I buy just the micro switches for the mouse?
I have a compaq V5000 laptop. My granddaughter borowed it over the weekend and she brought it back with the USB port broken on it. it has 2 ports one on top of the other and the center seperator is broken, it can not be used anymore. so My question is will this work so I can have USB? 4 Port USB 2.0 To ExpressCard Express Card 34/54 I saw it on ebay and It look's like just what I need. here is the link [url]

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had the m1530 for 15 months (Out of warranty) Never really had any significant problems with it, until yesterday. When it boots up, it will load the desktop and then freeze.
The mouse will move, but nothing will load and everything stops. Not even Ctrl Alt Del works. I keep trying to reboot it, and I have got loads of various errors from the blue screen, a message saying my virus protection is not up to date, message saying a file is corrupted, and a message saying my firewall is turned off.
I guess it sounds like a virus, but it will load every-time in Safe Mode no problem (When I click on Firefox while in SM in actually causes it to freeze, but I uninstalled it and still have the prob). What can I do? Time to reinstall Vista?
Has anyone broken the power jacks on their aspire ones? I saw from some pics that it's soldered right onto the board. My wife tripped over mine yesterday and may think the plug is a little bit looser than before, but still holds just fine.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy 7900 on the Dell M1710 I have has burnt up and I'm looking for a card to replace it with. I had thought the 7950 was a good replacement, but wondered with the shell being an M1710 are there other cards to put in there or is it only the 7900 and 7950.
Also, is there a good place you can think of to purchase these cards? Ebay is kinda dried up now.
After almost 7 services by the *always gentle* Dell techs, im getting a new problem, my WIFI reception is just crud, being right next to my router i get 4 bars... and if i get a little farther apart it will loose signal and oscillate between 3 bars and 1 bar, and sometimes even disconnect all of a sudden on places i always had good signal, and reconnecting will fail a couple of times before its successfully connects. ( ive tried this with several different routers, and the same happens )
is it possible that my WIFI antennas were damaged? or could it also be my wireless card? ( intel N 4950 )
i have already checked where the 3 antennas connect to the card and they seem ok.
I'm getting a weird white vertical line , about 2 inches thick, all over my display, it doesn't matter if I'm browsing software, or just at boot screen, the line is there.
Weird thing is, it seems to randomly dissappear sometimes, but appears again when trying to shut down the lappy, is the first time this thing happen to my display and I shuted down my lappy, hoping its propably a heat problem.
Here's a pic:

I hope that it doesn't be any gfx card problem...
the latch on my e6400 has broken. the bit of metal which protrudes out from above the screen has snapped off. now the lid cannot click close and stay closed.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI would like to thank The realfireblade for answering my post in a different forum. It has been impossible for me to answer him directly. The dell forum refuses my password.
I worked on that all day today, changing my account three or four times. I thought I had finally managed to create a new one that worked, but no, when I tried to answer Therealfireblade, the forum refused my password. I am not stupid, I had written the right password.
I have spent three days now trying to get in touch with somebody at Dell's to know where I can have my little laptop repaired. It is awful
Well, I've just managed to drop my laptop, and the part of the casing has snapped Its a clean snap snapped on the outside, on the just after the curve on the hinge (If you imagine the planel that says XPS on the casing,
well the crack is about the equivilent of half way up that, just after the curvature of the hinge)
I know my warranty doesnt cover accidental damage, so is there any way I could replace this casing myself, of fix it somehow?
when i woke up this morning one half of my screen was white and the other side was pretty dark.
So I decided to turn the computer off and kept it off for 30 mins. When I started it back up the backlight seemed fine but it still looks kind of dim on the left side.
I dropped my studio 15 onto the floor and cracked the LCD display all the way across.
The display is totally dead.
Ive been in touch with dell direct and they are quoting £200 for a replacement screen, and i have to fit it myself at that price.
Anyone else's HDMI port break on them? I barely used it.. I've had the XPS M1530 since late March/early April but when I tried to hook up my surround sound today it did not work. I tried using different cables, different port on the receiver, and tried directly with my HDTV but my computer does nothing. I updated the audio drivers and flashed the bios, but no luck. Pretty sure HDMI port broke. What a piece of garbage.
After my lid randomly cracking when I closed it less than a month ago and now this.. I can see how this computer will definitely break by the time my 3 yr warranty ends. Good job, Dell. Could they even replace the HDMI port on the machine or would they have to put in an entire new motherboard?
I got an Acer Extensa 5420 a few months ago refurbished and at first everything seemed fine. A month or so later I noticed that the line out had a small crack in the middle of the green ring.. a little annoying but my headphones seemed to work fine so I just ignored it. After using the line out for a few months it's become more and more faulty. Now, when I plug in headphones no sound comes out, it doesn't even recognize anything is plugged in unless I have it turned at the exact right angle. I know the audio jack is just screwed up, but what options do I have to fix this problem?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 4 month old Acer Aspire 6920G laptop with a cracked LCD. It happened just by catching the corner of it (the plastic surround, not the lcd) with the back of my hand (it was just a tap for god's sake!) as I went to plug in a memory stick. Brilliant. I guess the screen was weakened for some reason.
Anyway, I know the screen isn't covered by the warranty so I was wondering how much Acer charge to replace the screen? I've looked around and can get a new replacement screen for about £95 and fit it myself but I assume that will void the rest of my warranty? I'm happy to go the DIY route if a screen is far more expensive from Acer.
I have an Acer Aspire 5720 series with a seagate momentus (5400.3 120GB).
I am pretty sure the HDD is stuffed. The notebook tries to start and gives me different error messages each time basically to contact the hardware manufacturer. The HDD also seems to make a click or clunk noice every so often as if it is having trouble reading.
Anyway main question. If I replace the HDD how do I get this notebook working again... no recovery CD's or anything?
my granddaughter peeled up a few keys on my lappy. they look pretty dlicate so i dont want to try force them back down. Is there a certain procdure for this?
