Has anyone broken the power jacks on their aspire ones? I saw from some pics that it's soldered right onto the board. My wife tripped over mine yesterday and may think the plug is a little bit looser than before, but still holds just fine.
View 6 Repliesso for a while my headphone jack has been breaking. id have to wiggle around my headphone or speakers plug in the jack to make audio come out the right speaker. now it doesnt work at all unless push the jack in really hard and hold it there. does anyone know how to make audio come out of the microphone jack? like change it from input to output or something lol i dunno.

Since then, the jack is more and more "moving". I always lose the sound and get it back and it's really disturbing.
I have a Inspiron 9300, and according to this photo (taken in this forum), [url] the headphone and microphone jack is at the left middle part.
Here is my 2 questions:
- Is the only way to solve it is to change the sound card?
- Is is supposed to be cover by th warranty? Because the sound card still work, the problem is the input jack itself.

My TravelMate 2480 power DC-in jack is broken. I need to replace with a new one. I almost unscrewed all the screws on the back, but still was unable to open the back cover. Does anyone know how to open the laptop and replace the DC-in jack?

View 1 Replies View RelatedTravelmate 4010. I've had it for about 3 years now, and over the past *thinks* 6 months or so the power cord had been replaced twice because it broke. But it wasn't really the cord itself that broke the first time. Something inside the jack is broken and now the cord (a new one) has to be positioned just the right way so it doesn't switch to battery mode. I use it mostly on my bed, which probably doesn't help, but at one point I had to have it on a desk with the cord taped to the lid so it wouldn't move and kill the battery (which doesn't last that long). I couldn't even close the lid so I just had the monitor shut off after a minute. but I did get a new cord and started using it on my bed, storing it underneath when I'm not using it. After a while, though, the cord started to do the same thing and now I'm sitting here trying not to move on the bed too much so it doesn't disconnect. I'd like to get a new notebook, but I can't afford it.

I have done the troubleshooting in windows for sound problem - no luck.
I don't see a realtek sound card listed in device manager and I believe it is in the original specs for this notebook.Â
I get sound from the notebook speakers.
Have gone to control panel sounds and tried all the available adn even have disabled and disconnected devises noted to show.Â
I have tried a couple of speakers in the output jack tha twork on other notebooks - not the external speaker.

Laptop is a few months out of warranty so a repair by Acer isn't an option (if it is a hardware error).

Â I've loved the notebook to this point, but now the speakers have quit working completely (the headphone jack still works). Â I called tech support and they had me delete and reinstall the driver (Realtech high definition audio), which made no difference. Â

She then told me the next step is to refresh my Windows installation, which will apparently blow away everything I've installed since it was new. Â I declined to do that because I really don't want to spend an entire day reinstalling all the programs, even though I have the data backed up. I got an Acer Extensa 5420 a few months ago refurbished and at first everything seemed fine. A month or so later I noticed that the line out had a small crack in the middle of the green ring.. a little annoying but my headphones seemed to work fine so I just ignored it. After using the line out for a few months it's become more and more faulty. Now, when I plug in headphones no sound comes out, it doesn't even recognize anything is plugged in unless I have it turned at the exact right angle. I know the audio jack is just screwed up, but what options do I have to fix this problem?

It happened just by catching the corner of it (the plastic surround, not the lcd) with the back of my hand (it was just a tap for god's sake!) as I went to plug in a memory stick. Brilliant. I guess the screen was weakened for some reason.
Anyway, I know the screen isn't covered by the warranty so I was wondering how much Acer charge to replace the screen? I've looked around and can get a new replacement screen for about £95 and fit it myself but I assume that will void the rest of my warranty? I'm happy to go the DIY route if a screen is far more expensive from Acer.
I have an Acer Aspire 5720 series with a seagate momentus (5400.3 120GB).
I am pretty sure the HDD is stuffed. The notebook tries to start and gives me different error messages each time basically to contact the hardware manufacturer. The HDD also seems to make a click or clunk noice every so often as if it is having trouble reading.
Anyway main question. If I replace the HDD how do I get this notebook working again... no recovery CD's or anything?
my granddaughter peeled up a few keys on my lappy. they look pretty dlicate so i dont want to try force them back down. Is there a certain procdure for this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI noticed that if I have to shut it down by turning the power off directly from the power switch (without shutting down Vista first), some problems arise.
The next time you try to boot the laptop after doing an "emergency shut down" like that, the laptop starts making a very loud beeping noise and it's very hard to boot it (eventually it will boot, though). My friend said he doesn't have problems like this even if he has to turn off the power by pressing the power button for 4 secs.

I have an Aspire 7738G and I have a few questions.
My subwoofer seems to be broken, sometimes it sounds as it should but sometimes it sounds like a broken speaker. Have anyone else experienced this? Is there a easy fix or do I need to hand it in for repair?
When it was new 2 months ago I began with creating two partitions on the windows drive (it has 2 harddrives) because I don't like it when the windows partition is on 500 gb, then everything got screwed and nothing worked (I so hate the MS partitioning tool).
Because of this I lost the backup partition and the genuin OS. I have ordered the windows seven upgrade but I wonder, can I do a clean install without having a genuin os on the pc, with the upgrade kit?
Is there anyway I get a new backup partition?
I do have a serial on the back of the laptop for vista, is there anywhere I can get the oem dvd for vista for this laptop and install it with my serial?

I recently dropped my acer 5315 and now the screen is broken. There are a lot of black blotches and a little color and some lines when I start up and it stays that way.

I'm using an Acer TravelMate 7520. I had it with me at university, and had no problems (other than it being a little slow sometimes...). When I came home for the summer it started freezing up, and then emitting a loud, constant beep. it will work fine for a few minutes upon start, but then the programs start to freeze, then the mouse, then the beep comes. I did a virus scan and came up with 2 viruses, which i removed, but it is still doing it!! I can't figure out what is wrong with it, or a solution.
The other day it got very hot, because me (like an idiot) left it sitting on my bed with the fan covered. It cooled off and everything, and the fan works fine.
i dropped my netbook last night and cracked the left hinge. the hinge itself actually seems like a two piece and snapped back together, however it looks like it completely broke off the body.
the netbook looks like it still works, but im wondering what my options are, if any?
im assuming the standard acer warranty doesn't cover this...is it worth trying to fix myself, or is that even possible? should i just pray it keeps working and just hope for the best?
My touchpad broke days after I got the laptop, I go to Acers site for drivers and then when I download them I get told they have errors. I cant click or scroll with the buttins either, it is utterly useless and I am having to use a terrible USB ball mouse.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy husband dropped his Aspire 3680-2682 the other day and the screen went wonky. I booted it off a VGA monitor and it seems to be fine running from there, BUT I could not get it to boot to VGA except in safe mode, and when I choose to boot in regular mode it goes to the LCD screen and doesn't allow switching the display to the external monitor.
This is the only thing that concerns me that it might not be just the screen that sustained damage.
I was eventually able to get th bezel off (it doesn't come 100% off on this model but doesn't need to) and remove the lcd panel for inspection. The thin board taped to the back of the panel doesn't seem to be visibly broken or strained and the connectors to it were taped so firmly in place they didn't budge on impact. The small board that rests at the bottom of the top case under the bezel (the inverter?) can't be inspected well and I don't want to damage it by trying. In any case nothing appears damaged to the naked eye on or around the screen.
The first pic is how the screen looks when booted; it also (visibly) flickers and redraws continuously. The second shows that applying pressure allows a clearer view of the console and stops the flickering.

I have found a replacement screen online for 50.00 and feel comfortable enough trying to replace it rather than spend the cost of a new laptop on sending it for repairs.
However, if it's not just the screen I don't want to throw more money at this.
In your experienced opinions, does it look like the damage is typical of a broken LCD screen and not something in the motherboard? (no clue on how to get a closer look at that stuff. took every screw out of it last night and couldn't get the bottom case to reveal its secrets.)
