My TravelMate 2480 power DC-in jack is broken. I need to replace with a new one. I almost unscrewed all the screws on the back, but still was unable to open the back cover. Does anyone know how to open the laptop and replace the DC-in jack?
I am part of a large research study and we have about 150 Acer TravelMate 2480 laptops. We stick these laptops behind or under furniture, out of the way, and leave them there untouched. They have a couple programs running to collect data and that is all. We only connect to them remotely occasionally if something seems wrong with the data collection from a house. By the way, they are connected wirelessly to routers we put in as well.
Anyway, the problem with these laptops is that we have had quite a few hang/freeze inexplicably. When they hang, the data collection programs stop and it becomes remotely inaccessible. After hard booting them off and restarting them they sometimes only show a black/blank screen, but otherwise act like they are started up just fine. Other times after hard booting them off and restarting them they act normal showing all screens during startup. The windows event logs show no errors or indicators of commonality between the crashes. All drivers are up to date. We are running Windows XP on them.
1. Is their any unofficial, modded, or good BIOS for this laptop? I currently have 3508
2. Is their anyway to update the graphics card bios for this laptop?
3. Does this laptop support Bluetooth? I heard it did, and I heard it didn't.
4. Is there anyway I can control fan speed?
5. If I'm using the back USB ports of my laptop, and repeatedly plug and unlpug my speakers from the wall plug, my USB devices turn off for a quick second and come back. Is this normal?
6. On the front of my laptop, I have 3 audio jacks. I have no idea what the 3rd one does.
7. Is their anyway to use the € and $ keys on my laptop without Launch Manager?
8. I have 2 switches on the front of my laptop. 1 For Bluetooth and 1 for Wifi. So if I didn't have bluetooth, what would the bluetooth swich do even? (Related to question 2)
Travelmate 4010. I've had it for about 3 years now, and over the past *thinks* 6 months or so the power cord had been replaced twice because it broke. But it wasn't really the cord itself that broke the first time. Something inside the jack is broken and now the cord (a new one) has to be positioned just the right way so it doesn't switch to battery mode. I use it mostly on my bed, which probably doesn't help, but at one point I had to have it on a desk with the cord taped to the lid so it wouldn't move and kill the battery (which doesn't last that long). I couldn't even close the lid so I just had the monitor shut off after a minute. but I did get a new cord and started using it on my bed, storing it underneath when I'm not using it. After a while, though, the cord started to do the same thing and now I'm sitting here trying not to move on the bed too much so it doesn't disconnect. I'd like to get a new notebook, but I can't afford it.
Has anyone broken the power jacks on their aspire ones? I saw from some pics that it's soldered right onto the board. My wife tripped over mine yesterday and may think the plug is a little bit looser than before, but still holds just fine.
All of my headphones work on my other devices, so I know that the problem is not with the headphones themselves. The problem is that when I use my headphones with my laptop, everyone esle around me can hear what I'm listening to. What do I need to do?
I have a Acer Aspire V5-572G running Windows 8.1 and have found that the microphone jack won't recognise any external mic that is placed into it. It won't detect on the sound option despite the fact all the drivers are updated.
i got a problem with my headphone jack. I only hear sound on the right side, not on the left. tried different headphones, same problem. Did the soundtest from the configurationpanel , same problem. Â Laptop is a few months out of warranty so a repair by Acer isn't an option (if it is a hardware error).

I'm working on an Extensa 5420 that has a broken plastic tab that holds the power jack in the lower case. Anyone had any luck with glue/epoxy (or some other techique) to secure the power jack in position so it won't fall inside the case?
I have an Aspire E1-572 that is five months old, running Win 8.1. Â I've loved the notebook to this point, but now the speakers have quit working completely (the headphone jack still works). Â I called tech support and they had me delete and reinstall the driver (Realtech high definition audio), which made no difference. Â Â She then told me the next step is to refresh my Windows installation, which will apparently blow away everything I've installed since it was new. Â I declined to do that because I really don't want to spend an entire day reinstalling all the programs, even though I have the data backed up. Â Is this truly the only way to make a final determination if it's a hardware or software problem?
I've been trying to follow various vague guides on how to replace Acer screens. The closest guide on this forum is for the 6930 but the layout is quite different once you open them up. I have so far removed the speaker cover and detached the screen from the main laptop. I have also un-popped the screen bezel but am now stuck. The proplem is that as far as I can see, I need to get the whole bezel off in order to accesss the LCD fittings but I can't because it's catching on the hinges (and the small circuit board for the AC in socket) which protude from the screen. How do you remove the bezel? It looks like it should slide up away from the hinges but mine is getting caught everytime. What have I missed?
My daughters Acer 3680 just stopped working. I purchased a new AC adapter and it still doesnt turn on. The battery is new. Im guessing its the power jack that needs replaced. To avoid soldering Ill purchase the whole DC/USB board

I need step by step instructions on how to dissasemble the notebook. I got it mostly apart but i just can seem to separate the thing in half to access the DC/USB board. Any online resources, videos, manuals that would show this process of dissasembly?
I found a post on here with the identical problem. The post pointed to a Utube video that showed the process...that video has since been removed....heres the old post Acer Aspire 3680 dis-assembly
Aspire AS7720-6604: original hard drive (p/n WD3200BEVT) 320 GB crashed and need to replace. Is it alright to replace it with p/n WD5000BEVT 500 GB hard drive. I want to get it but want to make sure its compatible for my laptop.
Replacing/upgrading the CPU on an 8930 is not so difficult. With care, a small cross head and flat head screwdriver and some thermal grease the following procedure can be carried out in less than 20 minutes. The description here is for information only; if you choose to try it out bear in mind that things can still go wrong and you do it at your own risk. The linked photos show my upgrade of a T6400 to a P8600.
A list of CPU benchmarks at NOTEBOOKCHECK shows the relative merits of these two (and other) CPUs. Whilst the P8600 is not cutting edge technology it is significantly better (in my mind) than the T6400. In addition (BIOS permitting) the P8600 also supports VT, hacking the BIOS is my next step; I have not covered it here as I have not done it yet and anyway others have already covered potential approaches Add to that the fact that I got a good deal on eBay (under 70 GBP) and you can see why I chose the P8600 above possible replacements. Most of my use is development and design so I do not need to be at the expensive cutting edge, but superior performance and hopefully virtualization are key for me. One interesting difference in the choice of CPU is that the FSB should increase from 800 to 1066MHz.So on to the CPU swap out...
First shutdown the notebook and disconnect the mains power adapter. Turn the notebook over so the base faces upwards with the screen hinge nearest.
Unlatch and remove the battery (1). Unscrew the 7 screws holding the access panel in place. If you are careful the screws can remain in their locations as the panel is removed to avoid needing to record where they each came from.
Carefully release the panel by lifting the edges gently releasing the internal clips, start at the recess (3) and work round both sides to the side opposite the recess. The side opposite the recess has lugs not clips and so this edge should be slid out when the others sides are all unclipped (like opening a door with the recess at (3) representing the handle and the opposite side the hinges).
Once released the panel comes away easily and completely, most force is required releasing the first few clips but this need not be excessive and can be helped with a well placed thumb nail.
From now on static discharge is an issue, make sure you are careful to avoid damaging your laptop. Tweezers may be useful as the screws are small, avoid dropping them as they could find there way further inside and become difficult to rescue............
I am looking at replacing my 1810T bilingual keyboard with a US version very soon and am trouble finding any info or disassemble guide with respect to that model.
I am hoping i am able to replace my video card in my 5920g.
I believe it is MXM2 and as such can be replaced.
The current card is the nvidia 8600m-gs and I'm very much afraid it isn't going to last very long, i bought this machine to play games (COD4, Bioshockand such), since the 8600 is included in the bad cards list you can see my dilemma.
My questions are, Can this card be replaced?
If so what can i replace it with other than the 8 series nvidias?
How difficult would it be to replace? I'm not afraid to open it up and i've done a bit of work on other systems.
I recently dropped my acer 5315 and now the screen is broken. There are a lot of black blotches and a little color and some lines when I start up and it stays that way.
Would anybody know approximately what it would cost to replace the screen or know where I could purchase one.
How big of a job would it be to replace as I have never worked on a laptop.
I have purchased a DVD Writer to replace the DVD-ROM the laptop came with. With some of my old laptops, these drives were held by one screw or a spring loaded lock, but this does not seem to be the case with the Acer.
which screws in which order need to be taken out to replace the drive?
how to replace the keyboard? My daughter spilled spaghetti on the keyboard and some of the keys doesn't work anymore . If anybody knows how to replace it with photos and instructions I would appreciate it a lot.
After changing from XP to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS I found the netbook a tad slow. It has the original configuration with ½ GB fixed ram plus ½ GB removeable. I tried to insert a 2 GB DDR2 1.8V but the machine would not boot. What is the max GB I can use?
