Jan 8, 2008I am part of a large research study and we have about 150 Acer TravelMate 2480 laptops. We stick these laptops behind or under furniture, out of the way, and leave them there untouched. They have a couple programs running to collect data and that is all. We only connect to them remotely occasionally if something seems wrong with the data collection from a house. By the way, they are connected wirelessly to routers we put in as well.
Anyway, the problem with these laptops is that we have had quite a few hang/freeze inexplicably. When they hang, the data collection programs stop and it becomes remotely inaccessible. After hard booting them off and restarting them they sometimes only show a black/blank screen, but otherwise act like they are started up just fine. Other times after hard booting them off and restarting them they act normal showing all screens during startup. The windows event logs show no errors or indicators of commonality between the crashes. All drivers are up to date. We are running Windows XP on them.

Acer :: TravelMate 5510- Audio Not Working On A Brand New WinXP
Feb 11, 2009I've just reinstalled Windows XP on a TravelMate 5510, and almost everything went fine.
All the drivers has been downloaded from here.
Now i got a problem and seems i can't get rid of it.
Audio is not working, but i installed the drivers correctly. The program (AzMixerSel.exe) crashes everytime i run it. I don't know if having this .exe working would let me hear something, but that's an issue.

Am i missing something important?
Funny thing is that i got a kind of Bluetooth Audio Controller since when i installed this ->Bluetooth Driver 5.1.2535 and Utilitiy 5.0.1.1500.zip

Aug 5, 2009We got this 5315-2153 for our daughter at the secret sale a couple christmas's ago. It has been great for her until recently. I was removing some games she has got a little to old for and trying to regain some HD space. A thunder storm rolled in and i had her shut it down and unplug it. Infact, we shut down and unplugged all the notebooks and large screen lcd's in the house.
Storm rolled thru pretty quick and within a half hour i was trying to turn her acer back on and continue with what i was doing. With the battery in it, and the power plugged into the wall, all i got was the power light (solid), a hard drive and cd rom blink and it just sat there with the fan running. Thats it, no lcd light, nothing more than i just stated........................................

I'll be asking for more help later on if the battery isn't the issue, but for now my main question is:"WHICH IS THE BEST BATTERY MANUFACTURED TODAY THAT WILL WORK IN AN ACER 5315-2153?"In trying to research an answer for that, everywhere I look raises other questions I need answers to in order to choose a battery:"Can the Acer Aspire 5315-2153 use a 14.8 V Battery" "Where does the laptop indicate what battery voltages it is capable of supporting?" "Can I use an 8-cell or a 9-cell or a 12-cell?" "Can I find a battery with a higher mAh (ie. 5200, 7800...) that will work with my model?"Explanations I find regarding 11.1 volt versus 14.8 volt is, putting it mildly, whacked. Nobody is clear on how to ascertain what voltage battery your particular laptop can handle or how the voltage amount makes a difference or the kinds of problems encountered using one where the other should be used. Battery sale sites list the 5315 as compatible under 3 different voltage amounts. I cannot find anywhere on the laptop itself or in it's specifications and manuals an indication of the battery voltage amounts it is capable of supporting. Even Acer's specs do not make that clear. The back of the laptop references 19V as does the AC charger, but I'm pretty sure that does not have to do with the batteries voltages; or does it?...............

May 21, 2009I bought one of these Walmart specials in 11/07 and its nice for the price, but very slow. Rather than buy a new laptop, what reasonably priced upgrade options would you recommend, in order of increasing the speed. I don't mind spending another $200 or so to make it fast (if possible?), but don't think I want to invest much more than that.
The laptop is primarily used by me to surf the net and my wife to check her email on yahoo. Her main complaint is that it takes a long time to open each email. Right now it is connected wirelessly through the built-in wireless modem to my Apple Extreme Fast Ethernet, which does 802.11 b, g and n - it's the one that came out two years ago, not the bbrand new one.

May 22, 2009After reading great reviews about it, I took the plunge and bought the 6935G last week.
Its a fantastic machine and I'm really delighted with it apart from one major problem - I can't get Windows Media Player 11 to run at all.
The installation of Vista SP1 appeared to go well and the machine seems to be operating perfectly in all other ways (apart from the sidebar not displaying gadgets properly which does not bother me much).
I can see WMP included in the list of programs when I click on the start menu and I can also see it in my "C" drive under Program Files but when I attempt to run it nothing at all happens. The blue circle appears for 1 or 2 seconds then disappears - thats all that happens.
I'm not sure if this is related but when I go to the Music section of Windows Media Center I get the message "A necessary component of Windows Media Center is currently not available "
As I'm a "silver surfer" with limited computer knowledge, I'm probably doing something stupid (or maybe forgettiing to enable something) but I would really appreciate help in getting WMP 11 to work on this otherwise fantastic machine.
As I use WMP to manage my music, its important to me.

Sep 15, 2009I wish to share my experience of owning an ACER 7535G laptop for a fleeting few weeks.
I bought it from Currys on 9th August 2009 for £599.99, because my other laptop was getting kind of old. I work as a software developer so I needed to install all my development software on the new one. Because of this I could not even use it for the first 2 weeks because I did not find time to get everything on it (taking out Windows Vista and installing Windows XP being one of those). Eventually I started using it regularly about 3 weeks after I had bought it. Then exactly 5 weeks after I had bought it, it died on 13th September 2009!
It froze when I was working on it. The screen became garbled although I could still read the last thing I was working on (this to me suggested something wrong with the GPU, or its driver). I had to do a hard reboot by pressing and holding the power button. The next time it froze again before the windows login dialog was displayed, and there were a few pixles on the screen glowing psychedelically, and this time there was also some sound of static coming from the speakers. I tried to hard boot it again and after that nothing ever came up on the screen. The power and other lights do come on, but other than that it is completely dead.
The real shame about it was that it happened exactly 5 weeks after I had bought it. I took it back to the currys that I had bought it from and all they could do was send it back to Acer. They say that if it had happened a week earlier they would have offered a replacement or a refund, and obviously I would have gone for the refund because after this I do not have any confidence in the quality of Acer products.

I used the official Windows USB installer to make a bootable USB of the ISO file. It booted fine, but after selecting the install option, I recieved a error that said "Windows cannot find the Microsoft Software License Terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation". It looked like this:

Dec 31, 2009I have an Acer 5610-4610 system. It was repartitioned to one XP drive for several years. I am finally wanting to put the PQ service partition back on it but none of the folders of the restore CD's have any of the files needed to recreate this partition. I am wanting to put the factory (VISTA Home Premium) system on C. With all the system files and folders from the 3 restore CD's into the PQSERVICE partition. I have no clue how to proceed.
I do remember there was an acer(C) partition and a data (D) partition when I got it. The PQSERVICE partition was there back then.
The first (System) CD has none of the files mbrwrdos.exe or rtmbr.bin
used to create the PQSERVICE system.
I run the ACER Disk Formatter and it cannot find any drives on the laptop.
Weird! From what I've been able to glean my thought was that that the Formatter disk would facilitate creating the correct partitions?

Fine for all I need but I would love to upgrade the memory. I see it says it can only go up to 1 gig and that it has 256 as standard.
I see there is a slot under a cover on the back, but only 1 slot (Unless I'm not looking properly)

Mar 8, 2009I was given an Acer TravelMate 2300 by someone who has a new one. It came with no guarantees and no recovery CD. It had working verison of XP Pro on it through SP2. I applied SP3 and several updates. It worked good until... I noticed that the C drive was formatted FAT32. So I thought it a good idea to move it to NTFS. Without checking, I fired in "convert c: /fs:ntfs". It rebooted and after a brief look at the Windows XP splash, it goes straight to a stop code x0000024 BSOD. There was nothing on the drive except for the OS so I was felt OK withjust reinstalling from my media.
I dragged out my copy of XP pro slipstreamed with SP2. Booted from CD, went through XP's native setup and detected an "unknown" partition where C used to be. I must've really slammed it. I chose to install to the unknown partition and XP offered to format it NTFS. I chose the thorough format option but it goes only to 24% and stops. The display still shows the progress bar, blue background etc. at 24%.
Since I don't have much experience with laptops, let me ask, is it possible that this laptop/drive ONLY formats to FAT or FAT32 and won't take an NTFS volume? If it will, are there any ideas out there how to apply and NTFS format so I can get this cute little laptop back to a usable state?

The problem:
Every time I restart, the network card is disabled by default.
On very few occasions, the network card disables itself when surfing the internet.
I tried:
Disabling other network cards
Going to Device Manager, NIC, Untick "Allow the computer to turn off..."
Scan for malware/viruses using AVG 8.0
Conclusion:
Still it doesn't work!
