I am part of a large research study and we have about 150 Acer TravelMate 2480 laptops. We stick these laptops behind or under furniture, out of the way, and leave them there untouched. They have a couple programs running to collect data and that is all. We only connect to them remotely occasionally if something seems wrong with the data collection from a house. By the way, they are connected wirelessly to routers we put in as well.
Anyway, the problem with these laptops is that we have had quite a few hang/freeze inexplicably. When they hang, the data collection programs stop and it becomes remotely inaccessible. After hard booting them off and restarting them they sometimes only show a black/blank screen, but otherwise act like they are started up just fine. Other times after hard booting them off and restarting them they act normal showing all screens during startup. The windows event logs show no errors or indicators of commonality between the crashes. All drivers are up to date. We are running Windows XP on them.
My TravelMate 2480 power DC-in jack is broken. I need to replace with a new one. I almost unscrewed all the screws on the back, but still was unable to open the back cover. Does anyone know how to open the laptop and replace the DC-in jack?
1. Is their any unofficial, modded, or good BIOS for this laptop? I currently have 3508
2. Is their anyway to update the graphics card bios for this laptop?
3. Does this laptop support Bluetooth? I heard it did, and I heard it didn't.
4. Is there anyway I can control fan speed?
5. If I'm using the back USB ports of my laptop, and repeatedly plug and unlpug my speakers from the wall plug, my USB devices turn off for a quick second and come back. Is this normal?
6. On the front of my laptop, I have 3 audio jacks. I have no idea what the 3rd one does.
7. Is their anyway to use the € and $ keys on my laptop without Launch Manager?
8. I have 2 switches on the front of my laptop. 1 For Bluetooth and 1 for Wifi. So if I didn't have bluetooth, what would the bluetooth swich do even? (Related to question 2)
A week ago i bought an Acer Travelmate 8571 with Linus. I installed legal WinXP with SP3 and latest drivers/updates.
After start the computer freezes within 10-20 minutes independently on the running programs. To reboot it one has to use the Power button.
This is not the overheating: the ventilator works and the air temperature is cool. I guess, it can be either problem of the BIOS (v.1.02), which is not able to work with XP, or a wrong installation of the XP.
Does anyone have an idea on the source of the trouble? I would like to keep the notebook due to the advantages of extremely low noise production and long accumulator working time.
I have an 5920G laptop I want to upgrade some components on it in the future. I was thinking in the meantime, I want to try get as much as I can from the current processor, a T5550 (living tissue over metal endoskeleton)
I'm actually surprised information on how to do this is so scarce. Surely there is a way to overclock this model?
The current cpu temps dont really go past 60c, so I think I'm comfortable even if it raises another 20c or so. But I cant find a single method to alter the clockspeed.
So has anyone done it? Or knows how to go about doing it?
Overclocking the 8600 was a no-brainer, just requiring non mobile drivers, and I've been running it permanently overclocked to I since the day I got the laptop about 2 years ago with no issues.
Its about a 25-30% increase in performance across the board! To be honest I dont see why anyone should be without it. I couldn't stand using it at stock speeds.
A overclocked 8600 just barely made games playable at decent settings even 2 years ago, although thats getting a bit slack now also.
I really can't figure out why I can't overclock my GPU (in sig) while others with the same cards and even the 9200M GS can overclock theirs..so, fellow Acer-mates, are there any of you who have problems overclocking? Or are there any of you who at least had success doing so? Check this post for the details of the problem..
I'm looking into doing a review of the laptop, but not until I really really know my lappy from the inside out.
I'd like to know if Acer stopped producing 14.1 Aspire laptops? I tried to find somewhere to buy one, but everywhere they just do have 15.4" or old 14" models!
Even in the Acer.com product list they don't have 14.1 inches Aspire :'(
I hope they didn't discontinued the 14.1", I mean, they are much more portable and cuter than the 15.4"s...
If they did stop the production, do you know an equivalent 14.1 or 13.1" laptop (any other brand, or..) ?
I have a problem with both of my Acer laptops. It's very annoying to say the least because I have to restart the computer every time to resolve the issue.
I have two Acer Aspire laptops, one Aspire 4330 and the other is Aspire 7736Z. Both have vertical bars with scrambly colors. The bars are about an inch and a half apart and about an inch and a half wide. These weird bars only appear after the computer has been in hibernation. What causes them, and how can I resolve them (without restarting every time)?
I have a travelmate 5720g, which there is a mxmII slot that looks like it is possible to remove the current hd2600 and replace another one.
I have been searching around about graphics card upgrade on acer laptops, there are cases where people have upgraded from nvidia to ati and ati to nvidia sucessfully without problems.
Does that really mean as long as the mxm slot is capable of installing the graphics card, and upgraded your bios to the lastest version then it is just PLUG AND PLAY ?
I bought an Acer Aspire 7720G the other day. It's a good computer for me but all I need is a better videocard. There is a Geforce 8400M GS 256mb card so u know.
Can I just buy any videocard and plug it in? Or is there special videocards for laptops?
i have an aspire 5920G and wish to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro 64bit... but will acer releas drivers for this model seing as though it is fairly old now or will i have to just use the old vista ones?
Just ordered the [url] and was wondering... it has a VGA and an HDMI port. Does anyone know if I can run dual display on this? I plan to use it mostly as a desktop and occassionally as a laptop.
Any 6920G owner have their hard drive access light stuck on "on" for about 30 seconds or so and have their laptops freeze for this duration? Freeze as in as soon as I click any window, it turns white. This happens every now and then, doesn't matter what I'm doing.
i bought 5635G like 3 months ago..and ever since i been having a same problem...everytime i try to play some game it freezes and i have to hard reset it.
But here is the weird part that only happens when laptop is running on AC power (when it's plugged in) however when i unplug it i can play normally for as long as battery lasts.
I have an Acer Aspire 5710Z which originally had Vista but I had it reformatted to XP.
We've been using it for a little less than a year without much problems until about a couple of months ago when it started to freeze at random times at the windows logo (the one with the blue thing scrolling below). So we had to turn it off then on again and then choose the option to start on safe mode, which worked.
So I've tried lots of things to find out the source of the problem. Apparently, it's not a virus. We've tried to disable all the stuff at the startup but it didn't help. I've been looking around forums and stuff but none has given an answer to my problem.
So I brought it to these tech guys from school, who thought that the problem might be with the drivers. One of the guys saw that there were two intel graphics cards (Intel 945 GM driver) showing up in the device manager, like it was installed twice or something. He thought that might be the problem so he uninstalled the driver and the freezing stopped. I tried downloading newer drivers (actually, I'm not sure if they were newer, I think they were the same as the old one) for the graphics and each time I installed, the freezing problem came back. So the last few months, I've been using the laptop without the graphics card.
My Acer Aspire 6920 Laptop freezes occasionally, and nothing but a cold shutdown fixes it. Sometimes after I turn it back on again, the keyboard is unresponsive until after I've logged into my Windows 7. If I was playing music at the time of the freeze, it plays the last few seconds of music in slow motion over and over again.
There does't seem to be anything in particular that causes the crashes (sometimes I'm running games, other times it was idling).
How can I stop it freezing?
What I've tried: Reinstalling my Windows 7 64bit, Installing the latest drivers (from various sources)
I took a video of the laptop in it's frozen state, if this would help anyone? If it would, I can upload it to youtube... Basically nothing but a cold shutdown (holding in the power button) does anything.
Just bought a new Acer laptop 5730z. (Acer Aspire 5730Z-322G16Mi)
At first, when installing windows vista premium I got an error 0x d000000D in the very beginning after chosen language setup.. Then the system restarted and tried to re-install(?) software or so..
When it had done it 80-90 %, it started all over again three-four times. It stopped always somewhere between 80-90%. It took 1-2 hours to get Vista installed on this computer, after several restarting. After I got Vista installed, then Windows-updates won't work. The system freezes always when trying to get updates. Browser Firefox crashes all the time, even task manager crashes..
Is the computer broken or is there something terrible wrong with vista? Maybe problem with memory? Motherboard? Corrupted harddisk, install-files? And yes, no cd's came with.. I didn't even manage to burn eRecovery dvd's (needed two disks). After one disk the eRecovery just stopped and said, that disk cannot be created.
The laptop randomly freezes and is unable to run after (need to turn it off using the power button).
- I scanned it for spyware and viruses - Checked the drive using the windows tool - I did not install any new software lately - Installed the newest Intel Matrix Storage Manager (since I found it may be causing freezing problem) - I noticed increased power consumption while running on battery (from 15mWh to over 22mWh)
I'm afraid this really may be hardware related issue.
I just got a Acer 5100-5440 i believe the model is, and it constantly freezes sometimes more then others i have no clue what the problem is everything else is fine i cant seem to find out whats wrong with it.
I flashed the BIOS, I tested the hardware, I custom installed Windows 7, yet still the freezing continued.
Now I've custom installed Windows 7 again, and this time I haven't installed or updated any drivers, apart from those that were installed during the OS installation.
So far, no freezing.
Obviously, this has limited some of the functions on my notebook, so I was wondering what was the best way to install each driver, one-by-one, to find out which one was the culprit?
I may leave it a few days, to make sure the freezing issue has gone away, but should I set a system restore point before every installation?
Should I also switch driver download to manual? I believe Windows will always ask permission to download (and I presume install) new drivers, but should I make sure?
I have been having issues since upgrading my laptop to windows 7. I initially upgraded to windows 7 32bit and within 30mins the laptop started freezing randomly. Over the last month or so, it hasnt got any better, i have downloaded all the correct drivers and updated everything. Yet nothing stops it.
Due to be a student i was able to get windows prof 7 64 bit so i thought i would do a fresh install, so i formatted my PC and installed the new windows 7. However, the freezing is still happening. Now i have read you can flash you bios which i was a little apprenhensive about. I cant Acers support site and emailed them, and they were no help at all.
I have tried it today and have gotten no where. Tried to run the windows based one from Acer, and it wouldnt run. So then i made my USB stick bootable, downloaded phlash16.exe tried the various ways suggested on this site and others...and all that happens is that it runs in the DOS and just hangs on identifying flash memory part type.
I really dont know what i can do next, and the freezing is getting quite annoying.
I have a problem with my laptop, whenever i play a game it will froze on random. I know the computer is still running since the sound is still being heard but the screen is completely frozen. So i need to close the game and re-launch it again everytime this happens. The odd thing to me is it only happens to a certain game. But it doesn't occur to other games even games that requires higher specifications. The game i'm talking about is DotA 2, is there something on the DotA 2 engine that makes this occur?
I have a brand new Aspire V3-371-596F.  Since the first boot, I have been having problems with the touchpad freezing randomly.  The two finger sroll is reversed and I cannot access any settings to change the direction, either.  I downloaded the suggested Synaptics driver from the Acer website, but Windows will not let me install the driver for the touchpad.  When I go into Device Manager -> Mice and other pointing devices, there is only one device listed: HID-compliant mouse.  It says the manufacturer is Microsoft, and not Synaptics.  When I try to Update Driver, I select the downloaded Synaptic driver it says the best driver for my device is already installed.  How do I tell the computer that it does not have a Microsoft mouse installed so I can use the correct Synaptics driver?   I should also mention that a Synaptics HID Device does show up under Device Manager -> Human Interface Devices.  However, windows does not seem to recognize that this device is the mouse.
My Aspire V5-552PG-X809 has frozen 5 times in the last two days. Why is this happening, and how do I stop it. I just got it back from being serviced about two weeks ago, and did a fresh install of windows recently.  Here's the timeline for my system: About 6 weeks ago the system froze and needed a hard restart. Upon restarting, nothing would load. I couldn't access the recovery partition, and repair media did nothing. I sent it back to ACER for repair, and they replaced the HDD. It ran fine for about two weeks, but I was not paying attention during setup and put in the wrong username (This normally wouldn't be an issue, except it changed the name of the user directory and was a hassle for some R code that I had written). I reinstalled windows and fixed the directory issue about two days ago. Since that time I have had about 5 system freezes requiring hard restarts, and every time I'm paranoid that it will kill my HDD again.
