Sony :: ECO Screens Must Go
Jan 4, 2009
Sony should just get rid off ECO screens all together and offer only XBrite HiColor with 2 different resolutions and charge less for the one with lower resolution. It is very frustrating that you have to settle with inferior color if you want lower resolution

Why doesn't Sony have any LED screens on it larger screens? Compared to a MacBook Pro screen, is there a big difference? The MacBook Pro screens are very clear and bright. I was looking at a Sony VGN-FW480J/T. The screen is 1600 X 900. Is this a good screen?

I don't know if this has been discussed in another thread, but I am having a problem that has never existed before until Windows Vista & Windows 7.
When Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, & XP would go into the power saving mode just to turn off the display, it would always work. Now with either Windows Vista or 7, it does not

If my laptop turns on, it either freezes, BSODs, or black screens (could be anywhere from the windows loading logo to doing some work on word, etc.)
And if it doesnt turn on, well it does; the hdd light goes on (for a second), same with the battery light (the battery light is fine though), but the screen is black; i can hear hdd activity though and if i throw a cd in there, it spins properly and whatnot, but it just doesnt do anything past the blank screen.
An external monitor doesnt work, and reformatting seemed to have helped abit, but then it just got worse 2 days ago; I can't get past the black screen after I turn it on.
I'm 99% sure its a hardware problem, and I'd be willing to replace whatever it is if I knew what it was, but I dont know if it's the hdd, or the ram, or the video card, etc.
I've also taken the laptop apart; so reseating the ram and hdd doesnt work.

I am trying to find all notebooks with RGB LED screens with at least Full HD resolution from Dell.
So far:
Dell Studio XPS 16 (glossy) 1920x1080
Dell Alienware M17x (glossy) 1920x1200
Dell Precision M6500 1920x1200

I saw that the contrast ratio of the E6500 screen is something like 650 as is the Studio 15 's 1440x900 screen.
Is there a general consensus that these are superior to the 14.1" LED screens? I am led to believe that the T400 and E6400 are using the same Samsung/LG LED screens. I have seen the T400 and sent it right back b/c I got a Samsung screen that looked like milk. It was bad.
Is there a lottery to the Studio 15 and E6500 or will any LG or Samsung or AUO or Chi-Mei panel do? Are you guys pretty much happy with these screens? The notebook check or notebook journal numerical evaluation would put these screens on par with macbook pro, at half the price.

i've got a DV9500 CTO 17" laptop that gots a little blue things on the top left hand corner. i've also got a new HP 17" Pavilion dv7-1261wm 17" laptop as well. i was wondering, if i took both of them apart, and changed just the LCD screen, not the whole lcd panel. do you guys think that i might be able to switch out the screen on it and hopefully get the bad screen on the slower dv7-1261wm and get the better screen on the DV9500 laptop? i can't change the webcams or anything since the whole design on the dc7-1261 is different than on the dv9500. would it be possible to just change the lcd? i think i have a whole blob of stuck pixsls or something on the dv9500, cause its just blue on the top left hand corner and it never goes away.
i just wanted to know if this was possible before i open both of the suckers up and realize it might not be possible to just change the lcd screen.

3 different Latitude D810's that we wanted to add some life to. So we purchased 3 SSD drives,
two 64GB IDE/ATA Transcend MLC based units and 1 RiData 16GB SLC IDE/ATAunit. (Yes, the SLC is far faster with writing than the MLC drives).
Using our standard image, everything works fine. Except when removing the power cord from the back of the unit, it goes to a black screen, any hard drive (SSD drive) activity ceases.
When doing the same thing with a traditional hard drive, the screens blip black for a brief moment, but the computer keeps running as expected.

My question is if the early 1545's came with LED's or CCFL's? I see all the 1545's now come with only LED screens.
I ask because on the 'Dell Outlet' it doesn't state if it's a LED screen or not. It just says: "15.6 WXGA Laptop Screen Display with TrueLife"

i just find that at "display properties" there is no color profiles..
Usually when we installs a screen, the icm or icc profiles comes with the driver.
My laptop has an Samsung 15.4 screen ... LTN154X3-L01
Is there any way to get an "color profile" for it?
i will say that "color profile" is useful for 2D graphics,
screens - scanners - digital cameras - software " Photoshop", uses this profiles as an way to preserve and display correctly the color tones on your screen.

Some of you might now as I posted in my other thread that I'm not sure the screen I received with my refurb'd E6400 is the WXGA+ LED backlit like it promised in the invoice.
The primary reason is is that there is a sticker on the bottom of my laptop that says "Made in Malaysia" and also "Hg" with a circle around it. This is mercury; contained in CCFL backlit screens .....

I am a Thinkpad user but extremely interested in the Dell M4400 and M6400 because of their seemingly better screens. I would love to get details on these screen, most importantly are the IPS ("FlexView")?
Questions:
1. What does "Edge To Edge" mean?
2. What does "RGB" mean?
3. Are any of these screens IPS "FlexView"?

17" WUXGA RGB LED Back-Lit Display (1920x1200) Resolution

I know when we first got our's we read about the grainy LG Screens and worked hard to avoid it.
Now we are looking to get a replacement system. Has this issue been resolved? Or do we still need to be on the look-out for those bad screens and make a special request not to have the LG ones

I own a dell vostro 1400 laptop.
Just lately its gone a little crazy.
I push the power button in, the post screen would come up but instead of it filling the whole screen, the screen is split into 6 parts. I have 6 of the same image on my screen.
This continues onto the windows loading screen, which after it restarts and does the same thing

Has anyone seen the new screens? I'd like to know how much better they are...especially the vertical viewing angles.

I'm looking for a new screen - I saw an out fit on ebay that lists the dell inspiron 1300, 1525 and 1505 screen as one and the same.
So I start to hunt and I land here, which links to here which linked me to here:
That outfit's
page lists them all with identical specs and there's like 30!: so my question is, aside form those that are matte vs the glossy are they all the exact same physical dimensions and definitely interchangeable?

I was looking to get a new DV7 Laptop and was working on a custom configuration then I noticed that they only have one screen size available for the model now. What happened to the 1680x1050 units that the model use to have. I know they use too use 1440x900 res screens on the unit but now the only available res is 1600x900.

I will be getting a new MacBook Pro 13" within the next few days, this weekend at the latest. I will be picking up the laptop, the free iPod, the free printer, and cases for the laptop and iPod, as well as AppleCare (might save that for the next couple of months though) at an Apple store. Anyways, before I make that trip to the Apple Store I have some questions as a first time Apple buyer.
1. If I buy a laptop at the store, how difficult is it to get different specs for a laptop? Do they have a variety of different spec laptops to choose from or do they just have the base models? Like, let's say I want the $1199 MacBook Pro but with a larger hard drive, would they be able to do that at the store? Speaking of which...
2. I was looking on the website, and it's just $50 dollars more for a 250GB hard drive over the 160GB. Would you guys suggest getting the extra space for that price? I checked prices for a 250GB hard drive and they're about the same price as that and I wouldn't have to worry about installing it myself.
3. I tried looking around the Apple website for this but couldn't find anything on what software that comes PRE-installed on the laptop? Anything useful?
4. I am debating whether or not to get iWorks or Word for Mac 2009. iWorks is $50 and Word is $120. I will just need it for writing essays and doing the occasional PowerPoint presentation. I don't need those specific programs, just compatibility.
5. And finally, I don't know if this is a problem with Macs, but what is Apple's policy on dead pixels? If I find one, how difficult would it be to get the laptop exchanged for another?

Quote:
Apple's new Core i7-based iMac might be a performance monster, but it looks like the whole family's having some problems getting out of the gate: in addition to the previously-noted performance issues with the Core 2 Duo models, a quick glance across Apple's support forums and on other Mac boards around the web reveals that some machines are showing up DOA and / or with cracked screens. We're a little more familiar with the DOA issue, since the new i7 we just bought doesn't boot at all, but the cracked screen issue seems to be equally common and mostly affecting the bottom left corner, from what we can tell. Now, our review Core 2 Duo 27-inch iMac is perfectly fine, and Chris Ziegler's new Core i7 machine doesn't have any problems either, so these obviously aren't universal issues, but if you're about to stick one of these under the tree for someone it might be wise to do some surreptitious testing first.
Wouldn't surprise me if it was happening during shipping, the box my MBP came in had a big hole in it. (luckily it was double boxed) Maybe they have a problem with their packaging design.

Well I got my M1530 today and pretty happy with it overall.
The only thing I don't understand is, I got that wireless remote but I thought there is a pocket on the side of the laptop that I can put the remote in there?
Well, after wiping windows I began the steps to put on Linux. Now I've never had a laptop so I'm not sure if this is a common thing or a problem,
but on the bottom of my LCD screen it seems that the screen is secured too tight to the casing. It gives off a whitish blur at the bottom of the screen only in black displays.

I have seen it on two different laptops now. Both are HP ProBook 6460b.  When the user plugs the laptop into a VGA cable that is connected to a projector, the laptop blue screens and reboots.
Â
The laptop doesn't bluescreen and reboot when connected to monitors, but usually the users are using a docking station when connected to a monitor, or monitors. I haven't seen any issues with plugging in a VGA cable connected to a monitor, but that is rare.
Â
I've tried updating drivers, but haven't had any luck.

I'm using a Dell laptop, I bought it like 9 months ago so anyway, I get these random blue screens sometimes twice in the same day, sometimes I get a blue screen after 6 days or so. I'm not sure what is doing this because I tried a memory test and hard drive one and everything was ok, I tried updating a couple of my drivers and I still got it. I think it's because my graphic card's driver is not supporting my OS(I'll put my specs down below) :
CPU: Core i3-3217U 1.80GHz
GFX: Intel HD Graphics 4000 Mobile
RAM: 4GB
OS : Windows 7 64 bites
My laptop model : Dell Inspiron 15 3521
The blue screen(I got this one Bad_Pool_Header when I tried starting my PC up in the morning, it happened yesterday and today, they are probably random)Â [URL] .....
