I don't know if this has been discussed in another thread, but I am having a problem that has never existed before until Windows Vista & Windows 7.
When Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, & XP would go into the power saving mode just to turn off the display, it would always work. Now with either Windows Vista or 7, it does not
Sony should just get rid off ECO screens all together and offer only XBrite HiColor with 2 different resolutions and charge less for the one with lower resolution. It is very frustrating that you have to settle with inferior color if you want lower resolution

I got my Z890 the other day, and I have now started to reformat the thing and get it cleaned up. I've been following Sigma957's guide, and when I try to install the Sony Shared media thing I get the error, "This update can only be run in Windows Vista". What's up with this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought HP Probook 450 G1 Notebook PC in March, 2014. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. For the first few days it worked well without any problem. But now about 60% of the time when I try to shut it down, it freezes at "Shutting Down..." screen. I then need to press the power button for some time to force it to go off.

1. How can I permanently get rid of this problem?

2. If I can't, then is this problem a serious one that can harm my pc?
If my laptop turns on, it either freezes, BSODs, or black screens (could be anywhere from the windows loading logo to doing some work on word, etc.)
And if it doesnt turn on, well it does; the hdd light goes on (for a second), same with the battery light (the battery light is fine though), but the screen is black; i can hear hdd activity though and if i throw a cd in there, it spins properly and whatnot, but it just doesnt do anything past the blank screen.
An external monitor doesnt work, and reformatting seemed to have helped abit, but then it just got worse 2 days ago; I can't get past the black screen after I turn it on.
I'm 99% sure its a hardware problem, and I'd be willing to replace whatever it is if I knew what it was, but I dont know if it's the hdd, or the ram, or the video card, etc.
I've also taken the laptop apart; so reseating the ram and hdd doesnt work.
I have a inspiron 710M. Every time i try installing windows, my laptop shuts down. I have the recovery CD from Dell.
When i ran the diagnostics test, its giving me "DST short test" failed message.
I have checked my hard disk and there is no problem. I have formatted my drive and every single time i try to install windows, it shuts down at different times but never lets me install.
my notebook will not off after restarting. it stays at "WINDOWS IS SHUTTING DOWN" and God knows how long it will be like that if i dun press the off button. i found out that either the BISON or SUYIN webcam software is causing the problem....
View 6 Replies View RelatedI purchased a ready-to-go VGN-Z720D from Sony, and their bloatware is, well, horrible, so i figured that would be as good a time as any to do a clean install AND run Windows 7 RC1.
Problem is, most of the utilities/programs listed earlier in the "Windows 7 on Vaio Z" thread are not available from esupport.sony.com in 32-bit flavor for this particular model.
I've tried to use 32-bit drivers from the Z690 on my Z720, but Sony does enforce model restrictions within its package
I'm thinking about purchasing windows 7, do i need a clean install of windows vista to upgrade? and also do i need to get all the drivers ect like in the clean install of vista if i wish to upgrade? i have a vaio vgn-fw21L
View 3 Replies View RelatedI own a vgn-SR190. I recently had HD failure, so had to buy new HD and reinstall vista. My original version of Vista was Business 32-bit. I didn't make a recovery disc. So I went out and bought vista ultimate 32-bit. Figured I wouldn't have problems, but I did.
I'm having the driver issues that someone in another thread talked about, when you get the problem with vaio mode switch and the battery issue. I downloaded the drivers for Vista Business, figured it would be the same for Ultimate. But I just read someone's post here that the home premium 32-bit drivers are the same as the ultimate 32-bit drivers. Is that true? if it is, I would just have to download the home premium drivers. I just wanted to know if anybody knows for a fact that the home premium drivers are the same as the ultimate drivers, seeing as the business drivers are obviously different.
how do we go back to vista when august comes around. my z didnt come with any vista disc?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently updated my bios and decided to do a new full install of Windows 7. (Previously running Windows 7 Beta).
After doing a clean install and installing the Sony Notebook Utilities. I started getting this pop up message.
"The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer.
Click OK to enter Hibernate Mode, and remove reinsert the battery

At first I thought this was an issue with Windows 7 - so after searching the forums and no results I figured I would revert back to Vista. Now I am getting the same error.
I also have two Sony Notebook batteries here - both bought direct from Sony. One extended and one standard - both give same error message.
Could this be a BIOS issue? Is there a way to revert to an older bios?
I have a VGN -AR21s with dual boot to vista ultimate and Windows 7.

I have an AR-VGN370. After many months of waiting Vista Service Pack 1 finally is offered via Windows Update. I have assumed it was the Sigmatel driver that had prevented me from receivng SP 1. Is there anyone else for whom SP1 has recently become available and installed successfully? I am very hestitant to allow the install.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI use a Vaio Z (VGNZ690) which has a tendency to shut off randomly when it is unplugged, even when it has a charge left in the battery. When this happens, I'll be able to turn the computer back on, but usually it'll shut down again very soon into the boot process.
These fits of turning off usually come and go in bursts - there might be a 10 minute period in which I won't be able to get the computer to turn on, but after that it'll be fine. Additionally, the computer seems more likely to turn off when I move it (all of these shutdowns have occurred when the Vaio is operating off the battery).
I'm also pretty sure my computer isn't overheating.
Just got the laptop today. Went to Windows Updates out of the box and boom, it shuts down. A LOT. I managed to get the 64 bit updates in but it keeps shutting down for the rest. System Restore doesn't seem to manner.
The bottom of the laptop is hot to the touch after 2 hours worth of idle usage spent on updating windows....

The only changes I've made is removing some annoying bloatware, but I didn't expect problems this fast and this early.
I hope this is not a heating issue because I would hesitate to get a replacement. 6930 owners...have you had this problem before. Does it get hot a lot? I hope it doesn't explode if I try to play Left 4 Dead on it.
If I buy the windows 7 upgrade (only $49!) do I have to upgrade my vista or can i keep vista and have windows 7 at the same time in a dual-boot situation? Does anyone know if this is allowed?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just recieved my Sony Vaio FW490 today. After uninstalling the trial version of Office 2007 (student version), windows refuses to boot normally. I tried several system resores without success.
Although it said that the restore worked properly, I kept rebooting to repair windows or vaio restore center or something like that. I finally called Sony tech support, and they walked me through restoring the C drive to its original state option

I have a sony vaio fz290.
I burned the image of a 7077 build I downloaded from demonoid. Booted off of it and clicked install , and then I got an error about not having a Cd/Dvd drive device driver missing , I tried a lot of things and searched all over the internet.
A few things to ask as I'm desperate
What can I do to make this work ?
Do I have to format my comp for this to work or can I just update over the 32-bit installation
OR can I just install on a partition ?

There were couple updates on the Windows Side. I ran all of them in one session so I can't really say if windows messed up something or the System Update is responsible but since yesterday I can no longer shutdown my x230t i7 Win 7 Pro. I closes the desktop and then it gets to the screen where you'll see a spinning wheel and the words "Shutting Down":

But it will hang there forever and never actually shuts down. I have to press and hold down power button to shutdown.

But unfornately i have failed to install OS (XP) on my laptop which came with pre-installed Windows Vista. I not been able , but when i boot my lapto using Windows XP CD it copies the required files but when i press ENTER to install Windows XP the message appears that " Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
