Sony :: How Long The VGN Z Notebook Battery Can Last
Jan 10, 2010I bought a Z in July and notice the battery time is short and short? in July it can last more than 2.5 hours even at 80% charge, now is 1 hour only, is battery care working? I think Sony is quite poor in battery management area, they should provide a application list thinkpad to test the current then tell you how long it can last.

Mar 14, 2010I've been trying to fill my SSD's with data over the past several hours. I'm having some success with artificially introducing the slow downs that happen after long-term use.
I would like to use IOMeter to fill the drive as done at PCPer and Tom's Hardware since this seems to be the industry's consensus on how to do this. My attempts with BartPE have failed and I'm mostly Linux inept.
I need help from some forum member to either explain the steps to, or create me and ISO for a Linux-based loader with the ability to run IOMeter. I'm not sure if a modified Grub boot ISO would be able to run IOMeter.

Will I get another XPS M1530 and, if so, is my hardware likely to be the same or better? Any chance that I'll get the XPS 16?.

Aug 26, 2009I've just bought 8530p with a T9400 and ATI mobility Radeon HD 3650.
What temperatures do you get?
My temperatures are:
idle:
Cores: 33-36c
GPU: 44-45c
load:
Cores: 64-66c
GPU:72-80.
Anyone care to comment upon the temperatures above? I think they are a 'tad' high under idling (where speedstep is kicked in).
Can anyone with a 8530p provide me with something to compare against?
I'm thinking that I might do a cleanout and replace the thermal paste to reduce the temperatures, anyone tried that on a 8530p with good results?

Aug 13, 2007I'm going to be replacing the motherboard on my i9300 either tomorrow or the day after. I am then going to reinstall Windows so I have a healthy machine unhindered by impossible-to-remove Ad-Ware and low HD space. I'm wondering some things:
1) Is it better to re-install Windows first before replacing the motherboard?
2) Do I have to worry about BIOS/Driver compatibiilty problems after I replace to the new motherboard?
3) Can you please tell me of other factors that I should be aware of once I boot up my newly motherboarded' computer and how to deal with them?
4) How are you feeling today? I hope you're feeling fantastic!
I have the Dell Windows Re-installation disc and a good amount of personal data backed up in an external HD, I'm hoping that's all i need to accomplish bringing my computer up to snuff.
if anyone asks why I need a new motherboard, it's a faulty DC jack and the audio pins in the side are broken

Jan 15, 2010I have just been given a VAIO PCG8A2M (GRX316MP) , i was told "it's broken but if you can fix it yo can have it" so having a quick look at it there's no sign of life on the display but the lights come on and i can here the HDD heads moving about.
Looking a little more i found that all the ram is missing , so now im not sure if its worth buying some ram to see if it works or not ? The lack of ram would prob explain the lack of display but i wonder if i should be getting POST beeps at least, which im not.
So my question is if a VAIO had no ram should (if all else was working) it be getting POST beeps ?

Feb 25, 2009Just performed a successful XP downgrade on my Vaio Z520, but have noticed that on this copy of the Vaio Silver Desktop Theme/Appearance doesn't exist.
I had it on my SZ and loved it over the XP Blue. Is there a way to get it back? I still have the restore discs from the SZ.

Jul 4, 2009I don't know whats the diference (besides the price), between VAIO TZ295N & VAIO TZ395N. Specs in all the websites I've checked say they have exactly the same components: Intel coreduo 1.33Ghz 2GB RAM DVD-RW and 64GB SSD Hardrive. I was wonder if the diference might be in the hard drive interface, with the TZ295N being PATA and TZ395N being SATA.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm seriously thinking of selling my VAIO Z690 & just buying the base Sony VAIO Z (VPCZ112GX/S). I may just be able to afford that base model & the icing on the cake will definitely be the UJ-232A drive being able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series & work.

Mar 22, 2010Am planning to get a sony laptop for me. The design simply rocks I am getting mixed reviews about cw and E series. But i made up my mind to get one.
My budget is aroung 40000rupees. Thats around 800$. So suggest me a better one between these two for occasional moderate and less(mosltly) demanding games. I dont care whether its 14 or 15 inch.
Am looking at lower end versions of both the models.
Only difference is CW uses Nvidia Geforce 310 and the E series uses some Radeon 5000 series one. CW has 14 inch screen whereas E series has a 15.5 inch screen. In the models which i am looking at both have matte finish and both has WXGA:1366 x 768 VAIO Display.
which one should i go for. whether the screen quality will be on par to Inspiron one atleast? ( I dont need HD).

The Vaio F Series only has 330M Nvidia Graphics Card with i7QM and up to 8GB of Ram and up to 256GB SSD.
The E Series has ATI 5650 (a less powerful version, reduced clock speed) combined with a i5 520M with up to 6Gb of Ram and up to 500GB of HDD ? Why can i not choose SSD ?
Sony :: Vaio TT AC Adapter On Vaio Z
Jan 2, 2009if I can use the AC Adapter of a Vaio TT on the Vaio Z. The standard AC Adapter that comes with the Vaio Z is of 19.5V and the one for the Vaio TT is of 16V, which I don't know if it's enough for the Vaio Z to function properly or if there could be any problem or damage. Both machines have batteries of 10,8V.
I have an undervolted Vaio Z by the way (last multiplier at 0.9875) so I don't know if this could help in any way for my Z to work ok with the TT AC Adapter.

Jul 13, 2009Ive update a Macbook from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7, but after the initial download (around 250Mb I think) and reboot, ive been looking at a progress bar of 3% for what seems like ages....maybe an hour at this stage.
How long should this normally take, im not a native OSX user? Im tempted to do a hard-reboot but am I being too impatient? Also, am I looking at a borked machine if I do a hard reboot, or does Mac OS have the same kind of safety features as Windows (ie Restore point)?

Aug 16, 2009I'm just starting my 5th year with my Inspiron 6000. Bought it in August 2005 for just under $800 out the door.
I was planning on buying a new one but I realized that everything in that price range these days isn't really a huge improvement over what I already have, and since the thing still works, there's really no need to upgrade.
I have had to make a few fixes over the years (upgraded HD, RAM, new keyboard, screen/inverter, battery, top bezel, power jack, power adapter) but at this point it's almost a matter of pride to be able to fix something for $15 or $20 by just buying the part on eBay and maybe spending 30-60 minutes with a screwdriver.
