Sony :: How To Remove HD From PCG-XG29
May 2, 2010
I've got an old hand-me-down VAIO PCG-XG29 on which the screen backlight has died. I'm a low-income disabled senior and I don't think it would be worth it to pay for a new backlight and then try to figure out how to install it.
So, I'd like to pull the hard drive from the VAIO and connect it to the USB port on a hand-me-down Toshiba laptop I was given recently. And then use the VAIO HD as a back-up drive for the Toshiba.
But I'm having trouble finding instructions on the web for how to remove the HD from the VAIO.

I would really love to know how to remove the keyboard from my Vaio SR.... I believe the Wireless card is shot... And it's refurb'd so its out of warranty...
I believe the Z and SR have similar designs so if anyone knows how to specifically remove the keyboard I would be forever grateful!

Re HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC, Windows 8, 64-bit. I want to be able to safely remove a USB thumb-drive without shutting down the computer. There is no icon for "Safely Remove Hardware" as on other computers I have. I have not been able to find the program or its icon using "search" or "find". It is not indexed in the user guide.

I've looked through the add/remove programs and can't find it. Right-clicking on it does nothing.
It seems to me that it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove this annoying bundled software. Please help! If you know how to delete/disable this please let me know

I've recently ordered a Sony CW with all the bells and whistles. I was quite reluctant at first to by a Sony, due to all the software etc that it comes pre-loaded with, but (my wife anyway) fell in love with its look and so we now have one on its way...
My question is, for a relatively novice IT person - although not a complete muppet! - the 'clean install' looks rather complicated to me and the risk of something going wrong rather scary! In this regard, can i not simply use the add/remove applications function in the control panel?
If this were an alternative otion, which programmes are the ones i dont need!

I just got my new Sony Vaio VGN FW590FVB yesterday and am having a problem. Once I enter either of my SD cards into the SD slot,
they show up fine under "my computer". However, once I am done using them, there is no option on the taskbar to "safely remove"
the SD card. There is also no option when I right click on the SD card under "my computer" for "eject"

I have a Sony SZ90 notebook, and would like to run a BIOS update on it. I have the latest BIOS (that I found with help from chaps on this forum). However it won't recognise the notebook when I run it.
I have wondered whether this is because I added a BIOS password to it ages ago. I know the password.
I would like to remove the password, but cannot for the life of me find how to do this in the BIOS.
Does any one know how to remove the BIOS password?

I am trying to totally remove MediaDirect 3 from my laptop, and I can't seem to get it all the way off.
First, I press the MediaDirect button while the laptop is powered off to boot into the MediaDirect partition. This makes the "hidden" MediaDirect partition visible to my disk manager program - so I can delete it .....

just got a new Acer 6530 laptop and it has SOOO much bloatware, a lot of things that i don't even need. I like how Dell had like zero bloatware. i like Acer's program that backups the whole system though. Does Vista have something like that?
Should i delete all the programs from Control Panel or is there a way for me to install a version of Vista (downloaded copy from a torrent site) and then use the key provided from the Acer laptop so I know it'll only install Vista?

Do I protect the battery by removing it completely? What is the best option for me according to my usage?

I have the Precision M6500, and before the Windows 7 partition there are two smaller partitions that I don't want or need. I will install from the DVD if I need to reinstall it and I use Acronis to do full image backups.
So I started up with changing the active partition from one of those recovery partitions. Suddenly I get the "BOOTMGR missing" pain in the a$$. No problem to fix it of course, I use a Linux Partition Manager boot CD for that.
But the problem is that if it reacts that badly to that change (I even tried the original Windows 7 DVD to startup repair, fixboot and fixmbr, but it didn't help),
then I fear that removing those partitions all together will really mess things up. Can I force the Windows 7 bootmanager over to the OS partition, or is this some custom Dell stuff that means that I would have to reinstall 7 totally to get it fixed?

A year ago (November 2007) there was a thread titled Possible to remove key from keyboard? which is now closed. I have a similar question and one of the mods may want to merge the two threads and open the combined one until the topic is thoroughly discussed.
In any case, here is my issue. My wife has an XPS that is only about four months old.
Suddenly the left mouse button is stuck partially pressed down. If this were a keyboard key I would just pop it off and clean underneath it. But, I don't know if you can remove the mouse buttons that way or not. Does anybody have any suggestion? And before someone helpfully offers returning it to Dell for warranty work - do you want to do without your computer for a month? She doesn't either, so that's a non-starter.

1) Start with one corner of the sticker and pick at it with your nail and nothing else (unless you know for a fact what you are using will not scratch your computer) until the corner is lifted high enough to grab onto and peel back. Note: this is very tough in some occasions so just slowly continue to work the sticker, I promise it will come up.
2) Once you can get a hold of the corner you picked up, pull back slowly to ensure you bring at least most of the adhesive up with the sticker.
3) After you get the sticker up there will probably be a little adhesive right where you attempted to pick at the corner or maybe somewhere else. If this is the case do not rub it or pick it or anything, just use the adhesive on the sticker you took off to "dab" up the rest of the adhesive on you're computer. (Almost like back in the day when it was clean-up time and there was playdoh every where, you'd gather it all in one ball.) And repeat for however many stickers you have.
If you follow these rules and are careful, you will not have any trouble getting the unsightly childish stickers off of your computer.

my seven week old son decided to vomit across my Acer 5920 laptop yesterday.
The laptop still boots but I can't login as some of the keys are stuck.
I've downloaded the service manual but I can't seem to be able to lift the keyboard off. There are four areas to prize open just below the speaker but I can't work out how to do it - do they push in or lift up?
Do I take out the tray it's sitting in or prize up each of the keys individually?

I would like to install a backlit keyboard into my e4300.
I removed all the visible screws but the case is still intact.
Are there screws behind the rubber pieces?
Has anyone successfully disassembled the e4300 before? I wasn't able to find any documentation or photos anywhere.

Dell say to remove battery which I did. Then to loosen the M2.5 x 5 mm captured screw (what is that?) Is that the thing that is on right side and is in the "cutout" of the media bay and ejects when
pushed (not the media bay).
When upside I see a hole on the right side and about half way up. And the last step is to slide the cover away (I am assuming that
I remove 5 screws on the cover itself (the 4 on the left and one in the center).
