I just got a new sony vaio F-series with the new i7, it was really fast, took me about 2 minutes to get to startup screen and log in. But all of sudden after two weeks it started to slow down
( I didn't download much, and I scanned with both avg and adaware and no viruses or problems found).
Also, my gadgets instead of appearing on the sidebar like normal appear in the middle of the screen randomly.. I am extremely pissed because I have heard such good review
I'm looking to replace mine P8700 cpu with the one from T9x00 series but i'm concerned about the temps afterward. So please tell me your temps in idle/full load if you have ......T9600,T9800,T9900 or P9700 . If you have some other T9x00 i'm interested in those to.
i saw that there are 3 available processors on sony z series.
1 - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz) 2 - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8800 (2.66GHz) 3 - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P9700 (2.80GHz)
the 3 processors will give me enough power, but i travel a lot, and i care a lot about the batter life, so which one is better for the battery life on z series?
hardware configuration to get the longest possible battery life?
I had replaced mobo on my dead SZ 4 series (don't ask why) and couldn't stop there since I was in the move thus consequently contemplated about possible upgrades. For now I settled for fan, WLAN card and CPU upgrade. If it works well, I might install SSD also.
1.Fan Modification
As you all proud SZ owners know, fan is very noisy on this machines so it made me think if there is any possible modification to reduce the noise. Since the BIOS is controlling it there is not much to do on the RPM part (in win at least, but more on that later) I settled for a fan and fan casing swap from SZ 4 to SZ 7 series.
In the photos you can see that fans, fan casings and heat-sinks are of different design. Besides design differences, voltage and the amperage are the same, 5V-300mA.
Only way was to install the fan and the casing of the SZ 7 heat-sink to my old one as one of the heat-sinks bolt bushings is off for a few millimeters.
There has to be some care exercised when prying off the fan casing, some heating was required from the aluminium side on three pins were casing is attached.
Not to be simple, the difference is also in the inlet hole. One on the SZ 7 heat-sink is bigger and off centre compared to SZ 4s. Had to do some filing there, to match it to the size of the new fan. Fan of SZ7 is not bigger, it is due to different design of the fan eye and its volutes...................
V570 1066 no longer sees 1tb WD Passport HDD in Explorer. it simply lists it as Local drive E: and doesn't allow access. The drive works fine on another laptop.  Running W7 w/ SP1. IE 11.0.9600
I've been using my Y580 for a little more than a year now and I absolutely loved it. Recently though, my graphics card has completely dissappeared. This happened after playing an hour or so of Titanfall (which ran really well) and attempting to update my nvidia drivers. I was not able to update the installation using both Geforce Experience and manually. While downloading manually, I noticed that their website was not able to detect my graphics card. I then checked the device manager and all I could see was the Intel card. Later on, the Nvidia control panel was also unable to detect the card.  I decided to uninstall all my drivers and start again with the one on the Lenovo driver page. I was able to successfully download the driver and it made the 660 appear in the device manager. This did not solve my troubles because when I tried to play a game, the 660 dissapeared again. I then looked through the BIOS and I was also unable to find the card. Frustrated, I did a system restore to before I first downloaded the driver. Once again, the 660M briefly appeared again but dissapeared when I tried to game or update it.
I bought a u310 slightly used but had a failing HDD. The person who was using it installed an operating system on the SSD and now I can't seem to access the bios at all. I had read that this may happen if Rapid Start is not disabled before formatting the SSD.  What do I need to do to be able to access the bios again? There is no bios files listed as a download for this computer so I can't even seem to be able to flash the bios.  I already sent it to lenovo to replace the HDD and instead they tried to charge me $167 to image the machine, which I said no to and they sent the computer back without fixing it.
Why neither the display brightness slider nor the F8/F8 brightness function keys cause any change to the display brightness? It used to work but for the past few weeks it's not. I thought that slider was able to override any preset power settings.
I upgraded my w520 from Win 7 to Win 8 last year with zero problems. Now I upgraded my W520 Win 8 to Win 8.1 via the store download. Except the webcam everything works fine. Â In e.g. the Skype desktop application, Google Hangouts or the camera app, the built in webcam no longer works.
The green light turns on, but I just get the crossed out camra icon in e.g. the Skype video options. No video. Â I see there are no drivers yet for Win 8.1 on the Lenovo support site for the w520 camera. In device manager it still shows the 2011 camera driver 1.1.0.1147Â and says "This device is working properly."Â
But it does not work properly. How to get the camera to work or is it just a matter of waiting for a driver to be released eventually?
I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, camera is enabled in the Bios and permissions are set to give Skype and the camera app access to the camera. I also tried the W530 drives as was suggested elsewhere.
Is there a way to clean the registry and such to wipe any contents out that is no longer on the laptop? any hidden files, etc...
Also, which of these in the screen shot can i remove. If it's not blacked out i either don' use it or have no clue what it is. please list what i can remove that's in the screen shot.
i have an x130 with amd e-300, and i would like to improve it, is there any possible processor to change it?  i bought it with the expectation of better performance of this processor and i already upgrade it to 6gb of ram now, but doesnt impruve much.  i really dont know if it is the processor or the video card, but for example internet browsing is slow, and also when i play 1080p videos it doesnt go well, the stuck and are really slow and poor
On my Vaio TZ150N, after installing Winows 7, everything works, except the built-in WebCam. I have tried re-installing the drivers from both Sony and Ricoh, but no use so far.
The fn keys no longer work and there is no means for me change my brightness, i've had this problem since my laptop was repaired. also the volume controls on my tool bar do not appear
I bought a ThinkPad X240 recently.  On Lenovo's website, it says the max speed is 3.30 GHz.  However, in the Windows 8.1 Task Manager, it says the maximum speed is 2.69 GHz.  See [URL] ....  Why there is a discrepancy?  I also tried running Prime 95 for a little while and noticed that the "Speed" in Task Manager never went above 2.70 GHz.  Did I somehow get a weird i7-4600U processor that has a max speed of only 2.7 GHz?
I'm getting ready to buy the new FW490, but there's a processor difference I'm not sure of. Which is better? What's the overall performance difference between them?

In the past I have owned Sony Vaio desktops and I’m now looking at a Vaio laptop. I am currently looking at the VGN-NS235J/P. It can be found on the Sony site as well as Amazon (pre-order only). (Sorry, not sure if I can post links here.)My question is regarding the processor. If I look at the Sony site it shows a thumbnail of the processor being a Centrino 2, but if I look at Amazon it shows it being a Pentium Dual-Core. It has been about five years since I bought a new computer so I am trying to figure out the details. From what I’ve read on the Intel site the Centrino is a much newer as well as bigger/better/faster processor. I am a PhotoShop junkie and need speed.
I currently have a TX2XP which I bought 3 years ago. It is now no longer able to handle the workload i place on it and freezes up and crashes regularly.
I am looking to get a TT11WN to replace it. However, I notice, despite the large price tag, it only has a processor of 1.2 Ghz. Can any owners comment on performance? Will I be able to multitask and switch between many open browser windows and applications seamlessly?
I notice that the processor in my tx2xp is also 1.2 ghz (pentium M), although with a lower FSB speed.
I got my VPCF119FX 2 days back. I found something odd in the dxdiag system info.processor name is appearing in a stupid manner. Could someone tell me if this is a problem
My model is Sony Vaio Z12GN and it's using Intel Core
My fiancee's is Sony Vaio Z26GN and it's using Intel Centrino
Is it any different? Weird thing is that I did a fresh installation on both and even though mine is 2gb RAM and hers is 3gb RAM, mine still seems to run faster.
Are the components that come in a 2.26 ghz motherboard compatible with a 2.53 or 2.66 or higher ghz processor? I plan on ordering a Z590 as I fear the 690 will end up starting at a higher base price (ie like in Canada), and then upgrading it with a faster processor, more ram, etc. I just want to make sure I can do all of those things without issue.
is there any way to overclock my the p8700 in my fw.i already overclocked my graphics from 450/600 to 625/800 with techpowerup gpu tool.it is perfectly stable and gave me abou 7500 points in 3dmark.so any idea on how to overclock the processor.setfsb and clockgen do not work
several people here who have been able to upgrade their SZ's to x9000 processors. I want to do the same but I want to know if it is as simple as putting the processor inn or do you have to do some modding. I am also interested in upgrading to a x7900 or t9500. Basically the x9000 is my first choice, x7900 is second and t9500 is 3rd and I want your advice as to what to do, and will I need to do any modding to put these processor in my SZ670?
