View 4 RepliesFor those of you who own VAIO notebooks and purchased a Provantage Extended Service Plan did you ever have to send your notebook in for repair/service? If so how did it go? Did you send it to Provantage first or directly to a Sony service center? Are these plans the same ones that Sony Style sells only cheaper?

I thought I had full technical support, but they billed me $129 to troubleshoot and clean an issue being caused by virus and other malware.
When I first received my vpcz1190 the recovery partition was assigned to D: .
I have sinced restored via a restore CD I made when I first booted into windows and that recovery partition no longer shows up in my computer.
The partition does however still exist as it shows in disk management however the partition is before the system partition and I am unable to assign it a drive letter.
It's me and my crazy mods again After fitting second SSD to my Vaio Z (instead of optical drive), i got hold of Intel's X9100 ES from E-Bay...
Stepping is QBDW - for those interested.
So, after a hour or so of fitting everything in (mostly spent on opening the Z) it was ready for testing.
First results? Not very nice - X9100 ES I got has lowest VID of 1.0V (, I should have asked the seller for this before) Also, 3.0 GHz VID is outrageously high (1.225V) - so, during the first tests it was shown that almost immediately the CPU resorts to throttling (temp. gets to 105C) - completely useless .....
I'm going to be ordering the Vaio SR today or tomorrow. I can't decide whether to spend an extra $129 on an extra year warranty

Did the extended battery come attached to the laptop in the box in place of the standard one, or is it sent separately, in addition to getting the standard one
Last august i purchased a vaio sr from sonystyle with a 3 year express ship extended warranty w/out ADH. I assumed that this warranty would be automatically linked to my laptop serial and i would just be able to call up sony and initiate a repair after the 1 year manufacturers warranty expired. However,
from reading forum posts it seems I was supposed to have received warranty documents and I was supposed to have activated the warranty within a certain time period. However, these documents weren't included with my shipment
I was looking for 2nd Sony VAIO VGP-BPL13 Extended Battery for my FW590
SonyStyle, Newegg and Amazon is no longer available!.
Do you know a trusted place to buy one with a respectable price?
if there's no way, does sonystyle has another model can fit on the FW ?
where I can get the extended battery for the FW590 for a reasonable price?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just wanted to let you all know that I managed to get 4GB of RAM installed and up and running on my Sony Vaio SZ61.
This despite the fact that both my local sony reseller and the sony helpdesk argued that this was not possible.
I bought the laptop two years ago, with 2GB on board. In my memory they back then said it could be extended to 3GB but i have no proof for that.
Anyway, steps i took where very simple:
-update the BIOS to version R00122S5(downloaded from the sony site were the SZ61 was not even on there anymore...) It was compatible with the SZ71 according to sony so i took the change but is updated smoothly.
-bought 2 SODimm modules of 2GB pc5300 compatible (kingston)
-opened the laptop changed the dimm modules and off we go.
I run dual boot mostly Ubuntu Linux Jaunty and occasionally the vista that came with the laptop.
In both environments it is recognized and i can use 3.8GB
The laptop now is again up to the job(every day heavy usage, testing on VMs and datamining applications with big datasets etc etc.)
Why is it that the sony extended batteries come out from the bottom of the laptop(the z-axis) instead of out the back(y-axis), I kinda feel the Lenovo approach towards extended battery makes a lot more sense...
View 4 Replies View Relatedi've been looking for an extended battery for my vaio z; and it doesn't seem like it's easy to get a hold of one in europe.
i'm asking for the serial number of the battery so as to ease up the search (i.e., the vgn-xxxxx serial)
Just received a Z610y as a college graduation gift, but it was not purchased with an extended warranty. I'm accident-prone, and am interested in a 3 year extended warranty with ADH.
I talked to someone at Sony Style who said I could purchase the warranty up to 30 days from the date of sale. I noticed newegg.com has one for sale, but when I talked to an associate there, they said it was only for sale with the purchase of a new laptop.
Just an FYI. I recently bought a Vaio NW from Best Buy using a credit card. I always use my card to pay for day-to-day expenses to collect the miles. I called the card company and they told me that they automatically extend the manufacturer's warranty for an additional year (effectively doubling Sony's) and if the computer is damaged due to mishandling or some other unfortunate incident, they will repair or replace for free. I did not pay any additional money for this.
Now, I don't know how good their repair services will be and I hope to never find out.
But I am glad that I did not spend the large amount to extend the warranty through Sony or Best Buy. Food for thought for you. It may be a good idea for all of you to check with your card company to see if they cover you.
I'm about to purchase a Vaio Z (sweeet!), with a config from the Sony website. They advertise the extended battery, but is that the VGP-BPL11 / S11 or X11?
here are the batteries.
I would think it's the middle ground battery, the X11 being some kind of special James Bond-type add on, but I'd like a confirmation if anyone is able to provide. I tried to contact their support but it's just not getting through.
Furthermore, are these all compatible with the VGPCKZ2.AE case? Looks perfect for my needs.
I cleaned and reinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (don't use HP Recovery). So I don't have the HP Recommended Power Plan. I want to add it into my OS or learn to create a new Power Plan like it.

I have bought:
Coverplan Expiry Date : 24/06/11
Term : 3 YEARS
Now there is Manufacters Guarantee Expiry Date which is already expired.
I want to know what I'm insured from with the 3-YEAR plan.
And I'm expierencing some heat issues. I'm thinking of replacing the mobo, If I'm covered under it .....
I'm planning to purchase this warranty plan but I'm wondering if it is global. I live in Canada so I'm wondering if I bought this in the US, would it work in Canada as well. In other words, would I be able to use warranty in Canada even if I purchased it in the US (my laptop is from the US as well)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust bought the M5400 and plan to switch to a smaller SSD.
Checking up on the existing 500 GB drive from WD, I see that there are 5 partitions on it.
What really bothers me is all the wasted space each partition seems to have.
WINRE_DRV - 1000MB unused 675MB
SYSTEM_DRV - 260MB unused 200MB
Other - 128MB no unused
C:Windows...well here its obviously not an issue
Lenovo_Recovery - 17GB unused 8,5GB
there is almost 10GB of waste when I'm planing on switching to a 250GB.
Can I make theme smaller with Minitool Partition Wizard before I try cloning to SSD?
Vista's defafault settings for "Power Saver" sets the minimum and maximum processor state as ZERO percent for battery. I don't understand this. If I open performance monitor the processor is shown as 80% max on AC power. If I disconnect the AC power while on "Power Saver" the monitor shows 40% max frequency. Why ZERO percent as default settings, to me that would mean it wouldn't even run.
Certainly for running light stuff it runs a lot cooler, the fan hardly cutting in at all.
I'm reformating a VAIO that originally came with XP Home RTM. The recovery discs have vanilla XP on it, so no service pack, not even SP1. Yes, its an older VAIO, but I am hoping to breath new life into it by starting fresh. Now, I am just wondering, after reformatting from the recovery discs, about the install sequence. Should I first install the Sony updates from the esupport site, or should I first upgrade to the latest service pack (SP3) and then install the Sony updates?
The other crappy thing is I can't go straight to SP3, SP3 requires a minimum of SP1. That means I have to do to service pack installs, which in my opinion may have ill effects on performance on the finished product. So I have two options to get to SP3, which is better and cleaner:
RTM->SP1a->SP3
RTM->SP2->SP3
how to get a service manual for TT, please. Or does anyone know how to clean the fan?
View 4 Replies View Relatedtrying to find a SERVICE Manual for the Sony VGN-NW series. Sony are not providing them to the general public officially because of:
"In many of our products, dangerously high voltage remains in the system circuitry long after the unit has been disconnected from all power sources. For other products, our internal design and engineering data is both proprietary and confidential. Maintaining the security of this type of information is instrumental to our success as a business entity."
Could it compromise their success, or rather their income from hardware support ?
Danger form high voltage? No such a thing is possible in a laptop if one disconnects the power cable.
The above seems to me unacceptable when Dell, HP etc. provide free Service Manuals to anyone, on their Web sites.
The computer is in dead state the next morning after I switched its Windows power plan to high performance. In order to unlock power plan options, I disabled connected standby via a registry key in HKLMSystemControlSet001ControlPowerCsEnabled to 0.
After investigating, I read that this computer doesn't support normal hibernate wake-up process other than connected standby. I select shut down option in the menu (hibernate option disappeared). It's possible that shut down option in the menu was actually set to sleep/hibernate in power settings by default.
The battery was at 100% before I last turned it off.
The LED power indicator doesn't light on when power supply is connected on either DC or microUsb.
Has anyone installed the newest VAIO Event Service from the following link [url]
I tried it and I got an error message that said "Previous Vaio Event Service is not intalled. Upgrade will be cancelled." I already have previous Vaio Event Service from previous installation.
The software should work with any VAIO Notebooks, not just FW. If anyone could try it I really appreciate it and please mention which VAIO Model you have.
