May 8, 2009i've been looking for an extended battery for my vaio z; and it doesn't seem like it's easy to get a hold of one in europe.
i'm asking for the serial number of the battery so as to ease up the search (i.e., the vgn-xxxxx serial)

May 18, 2009Last august i purchased a vaio sr from sonystyle with a 3 year express ship extended warranty w/out ADH. I assumed that this warranty would be automatically linked to my laptop serial and i would just be able to call up sony and initiate a repair after the 1 year manufacturers warranty expired. However,
from reading forum posts it seems I was supposed to have received warranty documents and I was supposed to have activated the warranty within a certain time period. However, these documents weren't included with my shipment
Sony :: VAIO SZ61 Extended RAM To 4 GB
Aug 18, 2009I just wanted to let you all know that I managed to get 4GB of RAM installed and up and running on my Sony Vaio SZ61.
This despite the fact that both my local sony reseller and the sony helpdesk argued that this was not possible.
I bought the laptop two years ago, with 2GB on board. In my memory they back then said it could be extended to 3GB but i have no proof for that.
Anyway, steps i took where very simple:
-update the BIOS to version R00122S5(downloaded from the sony site were the SZ61 was not even on there anymore...) It was compatible with the SZ71 according to sony so i took the change but is updated smoothly.
-bought 2 SODimm modules of 2GB pc5300 compatible (kingston)
-opened the laptop changed the dimm modules and off we go.
I run dual boot mostly Ubuntu Linux Jaunty and occasionally the vista that came with the laptop.
In both environments it is recognized and i can use 3.8GB
The laptop now is again up to the job(every day heavy usage, testing on VMs and datamining applications with big datasets etc etc.)

May 11, 2010I'm about to purchase a Vaio Z (sweeet!), with a config from the Sony website. They advertise the extended battery, but is that the VGP-BPL11 / S11 or X11?
here are the batteries.
I would think it's the middle ground battery, the X11 being some kind of special James Bond-type add on, but I'd like a confirmation if anyone is able to provide. I tried to contact their support but it's just not getting through.
Furthermore, are these all compatible with the VGPCKZ2.AE case? Looks perfect for my needs.
Dell :: Sleeve For Studio 15 With Extended Battery?
Dec 5, 2009 My aunt has the same laptop as I, and I have her name in our family drawing for Xmas... and she's wanting a nice sleeve.
She already has a laptop bag, she just wants something smaller for a quick "up and go" where she doesn't need her accessories, charger, etc.
I've looked at a few and I think they'd be close -- it's just that the extended battery makes the back end awful thick, which worries me.
Soooo I was wondering if anyone has actually purchased or used a sleeve with their Studio 15 with the extended battery, and if so which brand/model.

Dell Studio 1749 :: Extended Battery Life Gone
Jan 6, 2012I had to reset my Studio 1749 to factory defaults and now the option for "Dell Extended Battery Life" within the Dell Battery Meter is gone. I don't know what needs to be reinstalled in order to get it back.
These are the changes that might affect the issue:
- Installed a different WiFi-Card (Dell 1520)- Installed a different Tuner Card (Yuan, provided by Dell)- Installed Service Pack 1 for Windows 7- Flashed BIOS to A08- Updated all Drivers and Utilities from the Dell Homepage except for the ATI-Driver
I think it is a useful tool if you use your notebook on battery, because it is able to control a few options that are not available in Windows 7 default power plans.

When I'm on the Vaio Optimized battery plan, I get 2.5 hours of battery life. But, When I switch the battery plan to Maximum Battery I still get 2.5 hours

Sep 6, 2009I have a Vaio CR-190 and am having battery problems. Over the past couple months, my battery would show a full charge when plugged in, but when I would unplug the computer the battery would literally drop from 100% to 80% and began dropping futher. A few weeks ago, the battery would drop from 100% to 50% or so when unplugged and the battery would quickly drain. Recently, however the battery holds no charge at all and the computer will only run through the a/c. My battery management utility shows an X through the battery and says there is no battery detected even though the battery is properly installed. Everything else on the computer is running fine. I'm just looking for some advice on what's the best steps to take next. I've read that Sony has had some problems with batteries suddenly dieing and wondering if that's what it sounds like. The battery is from Sony and is the extended life larger one if that matters.

Apr 18, 2010i have a Sony Vaio laptop that seems to have a good battery but after i use it on battery for 2-3 minutes it stops .
What is very strange is that in those 2-3 minutes the battery shown as available is draining like 3-4% per minute and the laptops stops and doesn't want to start on battery although it shows over 80% still left .

Jun 2, 2009Just received a Z610y as a college graduation gift, but it was not purchased with an extended warranty. I'm accident-prone, and am interested in a 3 year extended warranty with ADH.
I talked to someone at Sony Style who said I could purchase the warranty up to 30 days from the date of sale. I noticed newegg.com has one for sale, but when I talked to an associate there, they said it was only for sale with the purchase of a new laptop.

Apr 21, 2010Just an FYI. I recently bought a Vaio NW from Best Buy using a credit card. I always use my card to pay for day-to-day expenses to collect the miles. I called the card company and they told me that they automatically extend the manufacturer's warranty for an additional year (effectively doubling Sony's) and if the computer is damaged due to mishandling or some other unfortunate incident, they will repair or replace for free. I did not pay any additional money for this.
Now, I don't know how good their repair services will be and I hope to never find out.
But I am glad that I did not spend the large amount to extend the warranty through Sony or Best Buy. Food for thought for you. It may be a good idea for all of you to check with your card company to see if they cover you.
Sony :: Vaio TZ350 N Battery
May 21, 2009Being a long term TX user, I eventually made the switch to the TZ, didn't need blue ray and didn't much care for the chrome sidings on the TT.
It's a lovely little laptop, but I have noticed a few things - mainly the battery is nowhere near Sony's claim of 7 hours.
My TX would give me a good useable 4.5-5 hours, this one barely struggles past 3 hours, even with the power management on battery life, screen useably dimmed and the CD/DVD off

Recently, I installed in Win 7 on it and everything work great except keyboard short cut to adjust screen brightness and volume control, and battery burn really quick compare to Vista.

Jan 30, 2010I just got a CW i5 from Best Buy.com a few days ago (its the VPCCW27FX). I have since noticed that it has serious battery drain issues.
My computer seems to lose about 7% of battery life PER HOUR when in sleep mode (although at some point it seems to put itself into hibernation). (I just put it to sleep for 2 hrs, and it dropped from 90% to 77%. Last night put it to sleep at 40%, and computer would not start up this AM w/o immediately going into hibernation again b/c battery totally drained)
Dunno why this is happening - computer seems to be asleep (screen off, blinking orange LED on front, etc.) and certainly is hibernated when I start it up again (vaio splash screen, etc.), but if I am losing 7% an hour, I will need to return it.
Battery life seems to be okay when I am using it though - watched and hour of DVD last night on battery, which dropped the charge from about 80% to 40%.

Jun 2, 2009I have a SV Notebook PCG-7D1M which has completely died on me!! I heard somewhere that if a battery is dead or not inserted in a Vaio it will not work at all. Please can someone confirm this for me as at first i thought it was my power supply so bought a new adaptor but it still wont work with or without the battery in. I basically just want to know if it will work just running from the mains?
