I just recently purchased a new sony vaio fw41e/h. And i've been using the blueray driver a lot for burning dvd's since it's capable of doing that. But since yesterday my drive just stopped burning dvd's and got no idea what might have caused it. I didn't find any errors or something when i burned my last dvd, which worked. I used the os it came with which is vista 32 bit. I don't think it's a hardware error because it can still read the dvd's but i just can't burn them. I also tried several different applications for burning, like clonecd, imgburn and nero but neither worked. For instance, when i use clonecd it just starts normally but after 30 seconds the bar raises up to 100% and just finishes and it said it couldn't burn it. for the people who wanna know what kind of drive it is, it is a mata bd-cmb uj130as.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI finally got my VPC Z with HDD/no DVD today and I thought I'd start up a thread on the subject for those like me who once receiving their Z will be trying to use Vaio Recovery Center to create recovery disks without using a DVD Writer.
Installing Win 7 from a USB stick is fairly well documented on the web but the problem above isn't, certainly not for the VPC Z anyway. I know that it's probably gonna be simpler to just create a bootable USB key/stick and copy the relevant drivers to it and use that (something I'll be doing to get rid of all the crapware sony have preinstalled) but I like having the security of an additional backup solution just in case I royally balls it up.
The main issue (i think) is with Vaio Recovery Center itself, if you try to create the recovery disk the software will complain that no dvd writer can be found. After trying a couple of virtual CD/DVD/BD-ROM/HD-DVD tools I took the advice of TofuTurkey (cheers fella) in the vaio owners thread and tried Virtual CD. I'm happy to report that this has the capability to create a fake drive with various fake media discs and does indeed fool the Vaio software into creating an ISO to the internal hard drive. I setup a DVD+R DL drive and everything went smothly. Vaio Rocovery created a single ISO 5,344,117KB in size.
Seems the next trick is to find a way of creating a bootable USB stick (again there's plenty of info out there concerned with installing Win 7) and then writing the ISO (or contents of?) it to it and filing it away for safe keeping. ZoinksS2k mentioned I should be "sure to set the partition to Active and run bootsect to make it bootable." which is going to be my next step after I've read up a little again on this.
There is only 1 device on my laptop and it is the Mata DVD-RAM drive but under device manager it shows that and OTSPIXK YR4DUBOHI SCSI CDROM DEVICE, and when i open my computer it shows DVD RAM and BD ROM
View 10 Replies View RelatedI own the VPCCW27FX from Best Buy. Last night, after burning a DVD, I experienced the blue screen of death. I noticed that my DVD writer only burns at 2.4x speed. I called Sony Customer Support and they could not provide me the with the optical speed of my drive and could not help me increase my burning speed. To the other people who own this computer or a similar model, what is your drive speed? Is there something wrong with my computer? It takes me 23 minutes to burn a DVD, a lot slower than my old Toshiba laptop.

I currently have 7950 gtx and t7400 2.16ghz chipset...

Are they trying to sell me an upgrade or do you think this is true?
Ive just played a 20 gig MKV Avatar file.... and I use KM Player and it seems slower than VLC Player.
Even with VLC it seem to be slow at some stages when running Firefox etc in the background... is that normal?
So i got the 1640 with blueray, and I was messing around with different applications like PowerDVD and media center, and I notice there isn't an up-conversion option.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am going to do clean install on dv3t, which has a blueray player and Intel GMA graphics card in it. I dont like HP MediaSmart much, so dont want to use that for playing blueray movies. Before I started clean installing, I wanted to make sure from you guys that the notebook is capable of playing blueray movies without using MediaSmart software. I dont have a BD disk right now to test if ZoomPlayer or WMP can play these disks or not. But if not, is there any other software that could handle BD playback?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS 1330 that happily runs Windows XP.
It has the Mata DVD+-Rw UJ-857G writer.
It can read DVDs alright, but I never ever managed to write any CD or DVD with it .....
While reviewing my processed order I saw these two choices for the dvd drive..
the 8X slot load super Multi (DL DVD+/-R Drive + RAM Support) and
the CD/DVD writer (DVD+/-RW) + Roxio Creator 10
what is the difference between the two? I was able to select the default which was the 8x slot load super multi. I want to both read AND write CD AND DVD and is it also possible to re-write to a DVD RW with the default 8x slot load super multi drive?
I just got confused with the +/-RW, when you mouse-over the 8x slot load super multi it says that it is a DVD +/-RW but in the tick-box selection it is only DVD+/-R
I would like to upgrade my 5315-2153 laptop to a dvd writer. Which models could I use and will Xp recognize the writer installed and work properly?
Which Intel Core Duos types could I install instead of the Celeron CPU that this laptop has. Would the Core Duo CPU be pin compatable and all I would have to do is use new artic cpu thermal compound to make sure it is mounted properly and greased properly.
I am using acer aspire 4520 for past one year.
But, for the last 2/3 months, I was facing a problem that dvd writer was sometimes detected in BIOS & sometimes not.
And finally, from the last week, the BIOS is not at all detecting the "MATSUSHITA DVD WRITER"
Its quite strange, as the orange led on dvd writer blinks like before & it write pops out when I press eject button too.
Have you guys also faced similar problem with this matsushita dvd writer?
Maybe some BIOS update is needed.
i bought a dv7 turion based laptop today.. and the dvdwriter/ is always constnatly making a loading noise.. does anyone experience this with any model? it's really annnoying cause it makes the pc lag for that time it's doing it's thing.. like i could be just on the desktop, and all a sudden the dvd writer light turns green and tryings loading absolutely nothing like it's doin the seeking noise ( and no there is no dvd or cd in the dvd writer just empty )

Does anyone have a link to a website or PDF describing how to properly open and disassemble a VAIO VGN-SZ75GN?
I have a VAIO VGN-SZ75GN, bought about 8 months ago, and now I want to exchange the built-in hard-disc with a solid-state disc.
I need some guide with illustrations/pictures, how to reach the disc
I have just been given a VAIO PCG8A2M (GRX316MP) , i was told "it's broken but if you can fix it yo can have it" so having a quick look at it there's no sign of life on the display but the lights come on and i can here the HDD heads moving about.
Looking a little more i found that all the ram is missing , so now im not sure if its worth buying some ram to see if it works or not ? The lack of ram would prob explain the lack of display but i wonder if i should be getting POST beeps at least, which im not.
So my question is if a VAIO had no ram should (if all else was working) it be getting POST beeps ?
Just performed a successful XP downgrade on my Vaio Z520, but have noticed that on this copy of the Vaio Silver Desktop Theme/Appearance doesn't exist.
I had it on my SZ and loved it over the XP Blue. Is there a way to get it back? I still have the restore discs from the SZ.
I don't know whats the diference (besides the price), between VAIO TZ295N & VAIO TZ395N. Specs in all the websites I've checked say they have exactly the same components: Intel coreduo 1.33Ghz 2GB RAM DVD-RW and 64GB SSD Hardrive. I was wonder if the diference might be in the hard drive interface, with the TZ295N being PATA and TZ395N being SATA.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if the Blu-ray optical drive (Panasonic UJ-232A) of the (old) VAIO Z series will be able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series? I would really appreciate it if anyone is able to answer my question.
The reason I'm asking is because I'm seriously thinking of selling my VAIO Z690 & just buying the base Sony VAIO Z (VPCZ112GX/S). I may just be able to afford that base model & the icing on the cake will definitely be the UJ-232A drive being able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series & work.
Am planning to get a sony laptop for me. The design simply rocks I am getting mixed reviews about cw and E series. But i made up my mind to get one.
My budget is aroung 40000rupees. Thats around 800$. So suggest me a better one between these two for occasional moderate and less(mosltly) demanding games. I dont care whether its 14 or 15 inch.
Am looking at lower end versions of both the models.
Only difference is CW uses Nvidia Geforce 310 and the E series uses some Radeon 5000 series one. CW has 14 inch screen whereas E series has a 15.5 inch screen. In the models which i am looking at both have matte finish and both has WXGA:1366 x 768 VAIO Display.
which one should i go for. whether the screen quality will be on par to Inspiron one atleast? ( I dont need HD).
im planning on using the laptop for videos, photoshop and a bit of gaming, maybe even a bit more gaming :-)
The Vaio F Series only has 330M Nvidia Graphics Card with i7QM and up to 8GB of Ram and up to 256GB SSD.
The E Series has ATI 5650 (a less powerful version, reduced clock speed) combined with a i5 520M with up to 6Gb of Ram and up to 500GB of HDD ? Why can i not choose SSD ?
