HP/Compaq :: Can BlueRay Movies Be Played In WMP Or Zoomplayer
Sep 12, 2009
I am going to do clean install on dv3t, which has a blueray player and Intel GMA graphics card in it. I dont like HP MediaSmart much, so dont want to use that for playing blueray movies. Before I started clean installing, I wanted to make sure from you guys that the notebook is capable of playing blueray movies without using MediaSmart software. I dont have a BD disk right now to test if ZoomPlayer or WMP can play these disks or not. But if not, is there any other software that could handle BD playback?

I have a HP 2510p with the u7700 at 1.33 and X3100 video card. I have downloaded some HD movies from the internet, I play them all with VLC media player. My laptop has the 120gb 5400rpm hard drive that came with it, most other 2510P's have the 4200rpm drive model. I play the HD movies from the hard drive.
Well my problem is that the HD movie (in 720HD) doesn't play too well on my laptop. Some movies skip alot, they seem to be waiting to load or something like that. I play other movies (around 700-800mb) and it does not do that.
Do current and past 2510p owners ever have this problem with playing HD movies. Is the X3100 video card powerful enough to play 720HD movies or could it just be a driver issue.
Maybe I can upgrade the X3100 drivers, I keep hearing stories about intel drivers.

I couldn't play MW2 reliably on my notebook before because it only got about 1600 3D06 score and around 20FPS, but even with the integrated in the Mac it gets about 2100. I've seen a lot of videos on Youtube playing this game at 960x600 I think? It looks great. While I have a desktop at home, I loved my old notebook because I could game without bringing the rig (I play WoW mostly...).
I suppose I kind of have the mentality that portable gaming is allowed to suffer graphically -- so I don't mind too much. Anyways, the videos on Youtube seem to have textures on high and render fewer shadows and run at 960x600 (which is very close to the 360 ^_^) but the game seems to run at about 30 FPS! This is great for a Notebook, and I'm sure I will enjoy it.
Does anyone have any testimonials? I'm putting a lot of weight into the look of the MBP vs. the Asus UL series or the phasing Sony SR, both of which get about 3500-3800 3d06. Long term gaming ability doesn't need to be available because I feel the PC gaming market is really plateauing graphically to stay competitive w/ consoles.

I just recently purchased a new sony vaio fw41e/h. And i've been using the blueray driver a lot for burning dvd's since it's capable of doing that. But since yesterday my drive just stopped burning dvd's and got no idea what might have caused it. I didn't find any errors or something when i burned my last dvd, which worked. I used the os it came with which is vista 32 bit. I don't think it's a hardware error because it can still read the dvd's but i just can't burn them. I also tried several different applications for burning, like clonecd, imgburn and nero but neither worked. For instance, when i use clonecd it just starts normally but after 30 seconds the bar raises up to 100% and just finishes and it said it couldn't burn it. for the people who wanna know what kind of drive it is, it is a mata bd-cmb uj130as.

I just got through watching Welcome to Macintosh and Macheads.
Personally I preferred Welcome to Macintosh, it felt a tad bit more solid than Macheads, felt more as a 360 experience, because it actually had a okey reasoning for the film. Macheads, was both funny and annoying at times, and it felt like the movie is glamorizing fanatical behavior. Jeez... its just material products, great ones of course, but they're products.
Is it just me or was Guy Kawasaki seriously off the charts annoying in Welcome to Macintosh?
And then we have that crazy fanatical nerd girl in Machead whom just looked like she was off the reserves mentally.
My favourite mac-centric movie has to be Pirates of Silicon Valley. I remember a couple of years back, when seeing it for the first time, I was blown away. It was such an nostalgic movie, even though I wasn't even born back then, haha, but I had reach so much about the history of the it industry so I was really fascinated with the story, and they simply outdid themselves portraying this story, in my opinion. The acting performances of the ensemble was put simply; great. Later on I found out that the movie was a TV movie, and I just couldn't believe it. Is it just me or did you also get the impression that this was a cinematic movie? I recently watched the DVD, and Noah Wyle was talking of maybe a sequel in the future. Here's to hoping that gets made.

Instead of my originally oredered 1080p RG+B LED, Dell sent me 900p which has max res 1600x900. For everyday work seems OK, since anything higher than that would make icons and everything else to small.
But the question is about DVD movies - if I had gotten 1080p would movies/DVD look better on such display? I don't have HD or Blue Ray drive.
If I hook up Studio 17 via HDMI to a large screen TV (46" LCD), I do get 1080p since the graphics card ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4650 1GB that is built in supports higher res than my Studio 17 monitor.
I'm thinking about returning this laptop, but really not sure what to do about this display. I got a great configuration and the laptop is otherwise really nice. It really comes down only to viewing movies and whether I would get visibly better picture with a better monitor? If so, what are my alternatives? SONY Vaio? Mac?

I am buying a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Intel core 2 P8700 processor rated at 2.53GHZ with 3MB of L2 cache, 4GB DDR2 800MHZ ram, 500GB hard drive rated at 5200RPM, ATI 4330 Radeon HD video card with 256MB of VRAM, and Sound blaster software enabled AUDIO Card.
Also, there are some other stuff like Bluetooth and bluray drive etc etc. It all comes with WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM WITH 64BIT. It has intel GM45 chipset which supports 1066 FSB and it also supports ddr 2 and ddr3....can i upgrade to ddr3 late on since intel states that it supports both? http://www.intel.com/products/notebo...5-overview.htm
Now the question, i m NOT going to play any GAMES on this laptop but i would watch alot of 1080P movies or u could say i would watch bluray movies. Is this laptop going to be sufficient enough to handle all high resolution videos? including YouTube's 1080P videos?....
AGAIN, i m not playing any GAMES on it....should i get this laptop or should i get studio 1558? since i m not playing any games, do u think i m jus gonna waste more money on studio

Does anyone else have a problem with flash videos (Hulu, Youtube) playing the audio at really low levels even when turned all the way up?
Even the windows equalizer only shows the sound being played at quarter volume when the volume is maxed out.
I know the speakers on the E6400 arn't great but if I play mp3s or videos in WMP it is much much louder

I have just received today my new Studio XPS M1640 laptop (with blue ray drive and led screen) and so far all seems to be good except ... It can't play Blue-Ray movies. When I insert a BD disk, the autoplay only gives me the option to explore the folders with explorer. No option to play the disk. If I right click on the drive, I can select powerdvd but once in powerdvd nothing happens.
Notes:
1) I can see the folders on the BD disk in explorer
2) I tried it with the version of powerdvd dx that came with the laptop and also used the online update option of powerdvd dx to get the latest version (8.1). No change.
3) I'm trying to play to the built-in screen, no external monitor connected.
4) I've read somewhere about a blue-ray icon in powerdvd, I don't see this.
5) A long call with Dell support yielded nothing. I specifically asked if they might have shipped the wrong version (non-blue ray of powerdvd), the tech said that they only have the one version and that it has been tested to play BD disks properly.
6) Dell support says to try with other BD disks and if it still doesn't work to return the computer to have it fixed. (I don't really want to do that since it seems to be a software problem).
7) I ran the Cyberlink Blue Ray advisor and it tells me that all is fine except that it doesn't detect a blue ray software player.
Anybody else ran into this? Any solutions?
It would seem a bit strange to have to pay extra for a blue ray movie player on a brand new laptop that included a blue ray drive.

- If you own a Unibody Macbook what is the most graphic/cpu intensive thing you have done with it?
- Do you regret buying your Macbook, do you wish you bought the Pro?
- Do you think this laptop will be compatiable wiith Snow Leopard, or will the 9400m intergraded graphics hold it back?
* What is the Vista score for the MB 2.4ghz,
Is the screen on the Macbook unusable for watching movies / dvd's?
Which laptop would be overall better:
Unibody Macbook 2.4ghz or a Dell Studio XPS 1640?
