View 5 RepliesIs it possible to upgrade to the blueray drive afterwards? If so, would I have to order it through Dell, or would any 3rd party drive work?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just recently purchased a new sony vaio fw41e/h. And i've been using the blueray driver a lot for burning dvd's since it's capable of doing that. But since yesterday my drive just stopped burning dvd's and got no idea what might have caused it. I didn't find any errors or something when i burned my last dvd, which worked. I used the os it came with which is vista 32 bit. I don't think it's a hardware error because it can still read the dvd's but i just can't burn them. I also tried several different applications for burning, like clonecd, imgburn and nero but neither worked. For instance, when i use clonecd it just starts normally but after 30 seconds the bar raises up to 100% and just finishes and it said it couldn't burn it. for the people who wanna know what kind of drive it is, it is a mata bd-cmb uj130as.

I read some other thread it points to something got uninstalled that causes "this computer does not have a drive capable of creating cds or dvds. Contact HP Support."
it mention one of the solution is to restore to an earlier version. But I prefer not to restore to earlier version if possible. is there a program that I can download from HP , to be able to create the recovery disk ?

I have upgraded the HDD and RAM 2 months ago after a hardisk failure.
Current specs as follows:
Intel Core2 CPU T7400@2.16GHz
Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 GT
2x2G RAM
2x320G HDD
Optical Drive: Mata BD-MLT UJ-210S ATA Device
In device manager it says the device is working properly.
Current driver version is 6.0.6001.18000, which should be the latest (Ver1.06)
The laptop was purchased in June 2007. Broke Dec 2009 due to hardisk failure. Then I upgraded some hardwares (HDD & RAM), reinstalled Vista Home Premium (Burnt disk) then upgraded to Win7 (Retail disk).
Then 2 weeks ago, I left it on battery only, thought it would go into hybernation when the battery drains, however I had a nasty system loss, basically all I had was the Vaio logo and BIOS info, not even F8. So had to reinstall the system. Did pretty much the same thing as before, except I did the firmware upgrade of the optical drive, which I don't recall doing the last time. Then, I'm stuck with the Win7 upgrade.
I have been on Acer's support website but still can't figure out which driver I should update to fix my DVD drive, which does not respond to CD's or DVD's when inserted, even though Autoplay is set. Â

I've this GSA-U20N DVD drive on my T400 running Win 7.  It create an irritating humming  noise with vibration while playing DVDs. It doesn't happen all the time but every other time.  The DVDs are in good condition and play well otherwise well with or without the drive noise.

I tried another new drive UJ8B2 and does create the similar noise.Â

I was looking into getting a VAIO i7 Z series laptop without the blueray drive just the DVD as its £550 more!

I am going to do clean install on dv3t, which has a blueray player and Intel GMA graphics card in it. I dont like HP MediaSmart much, so dont want to use that for playing blueray movies. Before I started clean installing, I wanted to make sure from you guys that the notebook is capable of playing blueray movies without using MediaSmart software. I dont have a BD disk right now to test if ZoomPlayer or WMP can play these disks or not. But if not, is there any other software that could handle BD playback?

1.Uninstall/installing the drive
2.removing registry keys (upper and lower filters )
3.firmware update JD06
4.System Restore
I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my Studio XPS 16 and everything is working except I can't play DVDs.
I installed the latest firmware for the DVD and got sound but no video.
I have also installed the latest ATI drivers and chipset with no luck.
Device Manager shows the driver for the monitory is a generic pnp monitor and I cannot set the resolution of the monitor above 1024 x 768. So, I am assuming that my problem is either the monitor driver and/or the ATI driver.
So my girlfriend just received her new dell studio 1458 and the dvd drive just wreck 2 dvds, the sims 3 and modern warfare 2. There is now a circle ring etched onto each dvd by the dvd drive,
Now the dvds are not readable anymore, speaking to technical support right now and they refused to replace those dvds, she just received this computer and this drive is already faulty!
Spoke to a supervisor and all he said dell will replace the dvd drive and I am thinking no sh*t sherlock of course you have to
Does anyone know why my Latitude D600 won't play back-up (burnt) dvds, but it plays the original disc? When I put in the burnt disc I hear a clicking sound, but nothing else happens.
I have been trying to use burnt -R discs and dual layer discs; these discs play on other dvd players. Should my laptop plays these discs? And if so why doesn't it? I believe it still has the original drive in it; I bought the laptop second hand.
I would like to have the full Dell-branded Windows OS DVD but I am not sure if Dell has discontinued this. Do they still ship these out? If not, do they charge for it or can I just get it for free?

I'm a Mac & Windows user and love both environments. Yet, I'm unsure if the MacBook will work for me.
I'm not sure whats the best way to rip a DVD, but I keep reading about Mac the ripper and Handbreak. I think I understand that you use Mac the ripper to get on the computer first, then handbreak it if I wana get it on my Ipod. (If this isn't right can some clarify it for me please). But through all my searching I can't seem to find links to download these programs to test these out and play with it...so if anyone is kind enough to provide a link much appreciated.

What speed should they be and what media is recommended?
