Dell :: Refusing To Replace Damaged DVDs Caused By Them
Apr 21, 2010
So my girlfriend just received her new dell studio 1458 and the dvd drive just wreck 2 dvds, the sims 3 and modern warfare 2. There is now a circle ring etched onto each dvd by the dvd drive,
Now the dvds are not readable anymore, speaking to technical support right now and they refused to replace those dvds, she just received this computer and this drive is already faulty!
Spoke to a supervisor and all he said dell will replace the dvd drive and I am thinking no sh*t sherlock of course you have to

I bought a Dell Mini 9 from the outlet and its already shipped. I'm having second thoughts though because of the $245 deal through Sam's club for a brand new one when I payed $230 for a used one.
I'm also not sure if I even need a netbook since I have a XPS M1530 and want to hold off until the 09 Fall Semester to get a netbook (if I decide I want one).
So my question is this: Would I be charged a 15% restocking fee if I refuse delivery? Would I be charged a 15% restocking fee for returning through Dell? Does it depend on whether I open the box or not? Would I have to pay for shipping?/not be refunded shipping/taxes?

I have a concern about possible heat damage to my Dell XPS 1530. I had my laptop in its case, turned off, in a metal locker at work. When I came to work one day they had been having problems with the heating system in the building, and my office was very hot, probably about 100 F. I don't know how long the office had been that hot, but possibly all night. The locker may have gotten even hotter, since it's near the radiator.
When I took my laptop out of its case, it was very warm to the touch. I stupidly turned it on and began using it while it was still warm, in the hot room (although I had opened the window and the room was starting to cool down). I read afterward that it should only be operated in an environment up to 95 F. Now I'm worried that I might have damaged it, although it seems to be working fine. How can I tell if any damage was done? The laptop is a Dell XPS 1530. (This all happened a few days ago.)
Would it be worthwhile to have it inspected to see if any damage was done? Or would it be better just to continue using it and see if any problems pop up?

I'm trying to install:
1.) Intel turbo boost technology driver (for i7 processors) and...
2.) Intel management engine driver
I keep getting an error message telling me that my hardware doesn't meet the minimum system requirements to install the software...which makes no sense! I've already installed the Intel chipset driver and the intel rapid storage driver AKA matrix storage driver. These two must be installed before installing the ones that are refusing to install.
I called HP, got India and the guy insists just because the driver is listed for my product doesn't mean it needs to be installed. I just kinda laughed it off, he was useless.
So I did a google search on the problem and it seems a lot of people are having the same problem getting these two drives to install-same error message and everything.
any info on IF they really need to be installed and if so, how the heck do you get them to install already?

I have a Dell Inspiron 3537 few weeks old. Originaly was Win8, but I update it to Win8.1.
After I registered laptop, next step was to partition my C: partition on two parts, partition C (OS), and D (Data). After that I successfully installed all programs I need. And after few days problems started with few BSoD. There are few problems and I will explain all of them.
My Dell checkup "Blue screen troubleshooter" reporting every few days one or more BSoD with explanation: "The unknown driver (C:Windows/system32/drivers/atikmdag.sys) appears to have caused a system crash. Complete the tasks below to prevent unexpected shutdowns in the future."
On same My Dell checkup I try to run "PC Checkup", and everything appear OK, no problems reported. Custom scan on only ATI video card (ATI Radeon HD8850), and result is "Passed".I also run build in DELL diagnostics (Boot menu) and there was no errors, and also Dell online diagnostics and everything was fine.
I try to install new driver from DELL website (AMD Radeon HD 8850M driver 13.151.0.0), but during installation, screen blinked few times and then went off. I thought that this is OK since video driver was installing. I left Laptop for one hour to "finish installation" but noting happened. I turned off laptop by pressing ON/OFF button for 5 sec, but after that laptop don't want to restart. Here I noticed other problem I will share with you in the moment. Fortunately, I installed Acronis True Image 2014 so I was able to restore a system. BTW, same driver version was already installed acording to "MSINFO32).
Now, my system is running, I can still see BSoD warning in My Dell Checkup, but actually I don't actually see this BSoD. Strange. If I right click on desktop and then click on "Graphics Property" or "Configure switchable graphics" I get this warning:
Second problem. During my laptop beforehand explained "BLACKOUT", I tried to use Windows Recovery. I tried "Refresh" and "Reinstall" and both times I got message:
"Could not find the recovery environment. Insert your Windows installation or recovery media, and restart your PC with the media".
If I try to use "Dell Backup and Recovery", I got message:
"Dell Backup and Recovery has not been able to detect the recovery Partition on this computer. It may be missing or corrupted. To recover your computer to the original factory state and restore the Recovery partition, please use your System Recovery Disc." etc...etc...
I don't have any of this discs coz OS was preinstaled. So, basically I can't use any facilities to recover my laptop because I don't have factory recovery media or recovery disc. Fortunately I'm using Acronis, but that's not a point. I want something to recover my system to original, factory state.
Actually, Windows Restore facilities are OK and I can restore to some point I created.
BTW, my hard drive is partitioned on 7 partitions. Originally there were 6 partitions with huge C: partition. I split this one on two.
And also, since this BSoD is likely caused by video driver, how can I safely update this driver. As explained before, after first try I had disaster. Can I try to install new driver for AMD Radeon HD 8850M from ATI site?

I just received my new laptop today, and I have never had this much trouble setting thigns up before. I'm guessing that most of my issues is due to Windows 8 in general, but it is still agrivating none the less.
For whatever reason, the internet connection on my laptop just drops. No notifications, and it says I'm still connected to the router, I just don't have connection to the internet. I fix this by disconnecting/reconnecting to my network, but its agrivated to have to do this every 2-4 minutes.
Windows says that there are 51 updates, but that "it won't update till the maintenance for my convenience", I'm wondering if this is the trouble with my wireless. I'm not sure how to convince windows that I WANT it to update, not wait hopping that it will update.
While this is aggravating enough as it is, it becomes more aggravating when the computer locks up for 10+ minutes at a time while trying to install programs. There was even a time when the I could not get the startup screen to switch to the log in. It eventually did after many minutes of waiting, and closing/opening the monitor.
Is there anything I can do about the internet issue?

I had a dv2700t, with a problem I described in this forum some time ago... I didn't manage to solve the problem and HP couldn't/wouldn't "fix" it... the problem was that the wireless... caused blue screens/crashes randomly while using internet (downloading large and small torrent files for example) this happened ONLY when using WIRELESS connection.
I now, after nagging on HP for months, own a dv7-1290.
Imagine my surprise when I get the same problem...the only difference that I've been able to discern between this problem and the old problem is that this computer doesn't crash the UBUNTU live cd that the other computer managed to do......

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 with a rev0 7900gs Go, and I recently flashed it with the 7900GTX bios (790GTXUN.ROM) and followed the info given on post 1 here: [url]
The clocks for this BIOS were set at 500/600 by default, but I went ahead and clocked them up to 530/630, then eventually up to 575/700. I am running ATi Tool 0.27b2 and ran the artifact test, it ran for about 10 minutes and then some artifacts started to show at about 93c. As soon as they started coming up, I canceled the artifact test then rebooted, and re flashed back to the original 7900GS BIOS. I have been playing WoW for the last 30mins and it has been running fine but I am worried that I may have damaged my card, would anyone please be able to tell me what you think or what could have caused the artifacting?

I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 RC over Vista on my inspiron 1520. Windows 7 appeared to automatically install the correct drivers for everything
except the graphics card, as everything else appeared to be working properly (e.g. wireless, scrollpad, etc.) After manually downloading and installing the NVidia driver, the aero stuff started to work.
However shortly afterwards, I noticed that the left side of my screen seemed slightly dimmer than the rest of the screen. The problem gets even worse, as the backlight would suddenly turn off after shorter and shorter periods.
I thought maybe the windows 7 drivers were incompatible with my the laptop, so I uninstalled windows 7 and installed Vista back along with the original drivers, but that didn't fix the problem .....

I have a Dell Latitude D600 that came with a 60gb hard drive. I had a D600 previous to this one with a 40gb hard drive and I swapped this hard drive into the newer D600 since I had all my important data stored on it already.
Just the other day when I was performing some maintenance on the D600,
I accidentally dropped the 40gb on the floor when it was out of the computer. I thought everything was fine because it seemed to boot up when
I re-installed it, but I hadn't actually tried using it until today

I sent my 8510p laptop in to HP to fix a video problem and they replaced the video board, sent it back to me. When I got it back it was very clear that there was still a problem, the video signal intermittently clouded up like there was a disconnect in the cable - I figured the tech didn't press the connector cable firmly into place. I sent it back for the 2nd time.
I got the laptop back and all my video problems were fixed; however, there was now a 2 to 3 inch long crack around one of the screws on the bottom of the case - like someone took a chisel or a screwdriver to pry up at the case. I told customer service and they sent a box for me to pack it up and send it back. This is the 3rd week in a row without my computer at home - it's starting to cause major problems because I need my computer to study.
I get a call back this last Friday from billing at HP telling me they aren't going to fix the case unless I pay them $200 even though it's very clear that the crack was caused by an incompetent tech trying to get into the unit. There was no damage to the shipping box and this kind of crack simply could not have happened during shipping - HP also tells me that because I got it late Thursday and didn't report it til Sunday morning, that I can't be covered for shipping damage (even though there was no shipping damage). They want $89 to send it back to me unfixed too.
I told them I wouldn't pay them anything for damage they caused - I left a message on the voicemail of the billing department supervisor...............

"No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine_"
I took the laptop to a local service center and they said that I need a new motherboard. They said they swapped the hard drive with a working one and got the same error message. By that their diagnosis is that the motherboard is damaged.
Where I can purchase a replacement motherboard?

I have a dv9000 series and the the ribbon cable that goes from the power button to it's respective conector on the motherboard is a bit damaged one of the metal contacts at one end has "skinned" off.
What would you do, look for a replacement online, i doubt a shop would stoc such a thing, of do these cables tend to be standard, the model number of the cable is E118077.
Also you should be able to completely remove a motherboard, including detaching it from the screen and still power the fan on, obvioulsy with the battery connected?
It's this cable, [url]
could you somewow slice the end off and then cut a small section so you have some new contacts showing?
