View 3 RepliesI have HP dv 9700 with vista home edition
My dvd rom cannot read dvds but cds.
I didn't use the dvd rom read any kind of cds and dvds since i brought. ( i brought at Jan 2008).
I do not install any burning software and I tried with various dvds ( movies, games) and it isn't working.
My laptop is HP dv9700 with window vista home edition
I never use the dvd rom since I bought (never burn a cd/ dvd or read a dvd).
But, now i wanna to install a game and its format is DVD, but the dvd rom doesn't take it. I try with cd and it works.
I tried a few days ago to watch some movies on my laptop but my disk driver couldn`t read my dvd´s at all. It can read CD´s but no DVD´s. This is my dvd driver:
PLDS DVD+-RW DC-8A2SH
My laptop is an Alienware M15X and I´m using Windows 7 (64bits)
I discovered lately after updating my BIOS from hp website URL....that when i use my dvd driver to read dvds he gives me a message that telling me and I don't know how to get my original BIOS before updating .
CPU:intel core i5 3210M 2.5Gz 4 coresRAM:4 GB

I have windows vista Ultimate on my Dell Vostro 1510 and my DVD drive (OPTIARC AD-7640A) acts like cd-rom & doesn't recognize dvd's. I have tried all kind of dvds (+/-/original/copy) but all i got is a noise !
I searched everywhere & tried:
1.Uninstall/installing the drive
2.removing registry keys (upper and lower filters )
3.firmware update JD06
4.System Restore
Dell Studio XPS 13 Vista home preimum 32-bit TSST D633A dvd-rom. It worked fine new only a few months old and has quit working now it only reads commercial disc and not burned disc i.e.
dvd's, cd's, or data disc. Reinstalled windows, downgraded firmware and upgraded doenst matter D400 old to D10 and D20 neither work, also deleted upper and lower filters but nothing
I have been on Acer's support website but still can't figure out which driver I should update to fix my DVD drive, which does not respond to CD's or DVD's when inserted, even though Autoplay is set.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy friend's macbook (white plastic, 2.0, napa/core2 before santa rosa platform) isn't starting, and I have no idea why. He initially asked me to replace the top and bottom casing. I accepted, and ordered the parts. Around the time they were supposed to come, I took the computer apart completely (required for the repair), but one of the parts was delayed, so the computer sat splayed on my desk for a week. I didn't exactly stack textbooks on it, but it also wasn't covered in anti-static wrap. So, now, I finally got the part and put it back together, and the computer doesn't start. At all. The screen doesn't go grey, the 'sleep' light doesn't turn on, the fan doesn't start - nothing. The magsafe light is green, so the power is going in. It's also worth noting that I have no battery for it, so it's all on A/C.
Does anyone know what's wrong? My two hypothetical solutions are (a) I need a battery, or (b) the logic board is dead due to static.
How likely are each of these scenarios - especially the logic board one? How possible is it that it was static overloaded?
Would I be okay using the highest battery power settings while watching a DVD? That would turn off the graphics card but I wasn't sure if DVD playing really needed it.

I'm trying to install an Epson printer and I put in the software CD. Nothing will happen. I can hear it whiring and I keep thinking that it'll launch but nothing does. This is what it looks like with the CD in:
Doesn't even show up on the side bar. I can't have a laptop that can't even recognize CDs or DVDs.
I’ve just purchased an Acer Aspire E3 112 that came with Windows 8.1 with Bing. I have a good bootable USB stick with 14.04 on it, from which I have installed several times on different machines. Here’s what I did:
Created unallocated space on the HDD within Windows
Booted from the USB
Clicked on "Install"
Chose "Something else" in the next dialog
Created a / partition, a "Home" partition and a Swap area.
Clicked on "Install"
The install went just like any other install that I’ve done over the last few years. When it finished, I clicked on the "Restart" button. The machine restarts, and goes straight into Windows. No sign of the Ubuntu install at all.
If I examine the HDD in Disk management within Windows, there are no formatted partitions in the unallocated space at all. (I’ve tried the same procedure both with Ubuntu 14.04 and Xubuntu 14.10 - both had the same result). Windows 8.1 with Bing is no different at all to “normal” Windows 8.1 ....
I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my Studio XPS 16 and everything is working except I can't play DVDs.
I installed the latest firmware for the DVD and got sound but no video.
I have also installed the latest ATI drivers and chipset with no luck.
Device Manager shows the driver for the monitory is a generic pnp monitor and I cannot set the resolution of the monitor above 1024 x 768. So, I am assuming that my problem is either the monitor driver and/or the ATI driver.
So my girlfriend just received her new dell studio 1458 and the dvd drive just wreck 2 dvds, the sims 3 and modern warfare 2. There is now a circle ring etched onto each dvd by the dvd drive,
Now the dvds are not readable anymore, speaking to technical support right now and they refused to replace those dvds, she just received this computer and this drive is already faulty!
Spoke to a supervisor and all he said dell will replace the dvd drive and I am thinking no sh*t sherlock of course you have to
Does anyone know why my Latitude D600 won't play back-up (burnt) dvds, but it plays the original disc? When I put in the burnt disc I hear a clicking sound, but nothing else happens.
I have been trying to use burnt -R discs and dual layer discs; these discs play on other dvd players. Should my laptop plays these discs? And if so why doesn't it? I believe it still has the original drive in it; I bought the laptop second hand.
I would like to have the full Dell-branded Windows OS DVD but I am not sure if Dell has discontinued this. Do they still ship these out? If not, do they charge for it or can I just get it for free?

View 6 Replies View Relatedcurrent MacBook unibody owners. I'm curious how good is the MacBook when watching DVDs or playing downloaded videos; such as the screen quality and battery life? Does the 1280x800 screen size seem too big?
I'm a Mac & Windows user and love both environments. Yet, I'm unsure if the MacBook will work for me.
I'm not sure whats the best way to rip a DVD, but I keep reading about Mac the ripper and Handbreak. I think I understand that you use Mac the ripper to get on the computer first, then handbreak it if I wana get it on my Ipod. (If this isn't right can some clarify it for me please). But through all my searching I can't seem to find links to download these programs to test these out and play with it...so if anyone is kind enough to provide a link much appreciated.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust bought my 5920G laptop from Dixons - looks great BUT - I cannot write to any DVD media. I can write to CD and I can read DVDs no problem.
Windows media player suggests I get compatible DVD media for the drive speed - I have used 3 types - all up to 16x.
What speed should they be and what media is recommended?

I have an HDX16 1050ev.
When I got it, I forgot to make recovery discs and now that I got it back from the service (they replaced the HDD cause it was malfunctioning) its empty, as they told me.
I kept a backup of the Recovery partition (D with windows back up and by Copy Paste before I took the laptop at the service. Now I copied them all back at the new partition that I made.
When I make a new partition in the new HDD, 10GB in size, and try the Recovery Option (Esc and then F11) it says no bootable device.
Is there a way to make the notebook see that the recovery partition is actually in place?
Does anyone have any issues watching DVDs? I have a few DVDs I made from a Panasonic DVD/VCR (transferred from a VHS to DVD) and it will randomly say skipping over damaged area while playing on my MB using the standard DVD Player software. The same burned DVDs work fine on Panasonic and my roomates DVD player. Would it be better if I tried using VLC or some other program?

What is going on with this acer software? Used to be able to watch blu-rays on something called acermedia. Did an upgrade to something with a ridiculous name - BYOC, and now the abmedia solution doesn't allow viewing of discs. Is this correct, or has something gone wrong with update?
