I bought my Sony VAIO VGN-FW11E at the beginning of January and have been very happy with it. A notebook that has very similar specs to macbook pro at half the price! Wicked.
A week ago the touch pad stopped working . Only a USB mouse will keep the cursor alive. I'm posting this because I couldn't find any relevant info on any forums or online sony support centres and hope this might aid others in the same situation.
If your Sony VAIO touch pad doesn't work there are steps to take to find out exactly where the problem lies...
It might be static electric interference try...
1. Shut down
2. Unplug adapter
3. Remove battery
4. Hold down the power button for 1-2 minutes
5. Insert battery
6. Power on, test.
Still under warranty Sony phone support were however quite helpful and efficient, this is what they told me............
I just bought a used but fully working Vaio VGN-FW11e with a cracked screen (got it for a good price). The lcd-panel had been removed but the lid is intact. The cracked screen didn't bother me since I planned to have it permanently hooked up to my projekter using the VGA-output.
The problem is that it doesn't seem to turn on the VGA-out before Windows has loaded, i.e. it is impossible to see the POST/loading of BIOS. When trying to restore Windows to its factory settings (since the old owner had left all his files and folders all over the place) using the Vaio Recovery Center something went wrong and now I'm left with a dead system.
When turning the computer on I can hear and see what seems like a proper POST, i.e. the hard drive spinning, the dvd drive spinning etc. But a few seconds after start, when it's supposed to start loading Windows it just stay still, most likely with some kind of error message.
I desperately need to be able to activate the VGA out during BIOS to be able to reinstall Windows. According to Sony this is not possible. But it sound almost silly since every other laptop I have had has been able to output a picture to VGA directly during POST. Is there some way since the obvious Fn-F7 doesn't work?
I have a XPS 15 L502x.... and sometime in the past week, my touch screen has stopped responding completely. I've tried everything i can think of... all the settings i can find relating to touch input appear to be correct, etc, but no luck. I'm usually decently ok at fixing the problems my computer has on my own through a little internet research, but either no one's had this problem and posted about it or its buried many pages down in google.
I dont have time to go through the phone tech support hassle for another few days and i miss being able to use the touch screen function. Not that it was ever super-functional to begin with, but it was nice for scrolling and such ....
Laptop is only 9 months old. I did all of the updates and then my touchscreen stopped working - that was 4 days ago. Today I did a system restore to the point before the 1st critical update (9/24/14). It still does not work. Did it corrupt my driver? And if so, what is the name of the driver? How can I restore the touch screen...  Product: EOLO6UA#ABA System: x64 Processor: AMD A10-5745M APU with Radeon (tm) HD Graphics SM BIOS Version: 2.7 Microsoft Windows 8
My laptop's touch screen function stopped working just a while ago. When I shut down my laptop, tere's this windows update that lasted for more or less an hour. After that, the touch screen just stopped working. Note that there hasn't been any program installation prior to the antivirus uninstallation - all programs and files contained in the laptop is as it was the moment I bought it. *Laptop's running Windows 8 Single Language
My touch screen has recently stopped working for an unknown reason. I looked under "Devices' in 'Device Manager' using the side 'Search' tool and I actually can't find the touch screen program anywhere. I ran a Diagnostics Test for it and it said that the device could not even be found.
Before the end of 2013 I bought an Ideapad U530 Touch for school and it's been working fine up until a few days ago when the backlight for the left most CTRL key stopped working and shut off completely. Every other key on the board is fine, except for this one. Is there any easy to fix to this problem, or do I need to send the entire computer back?
i purchased laptop vaio vgn-c36mj and the original windows "x64"freezes and i had to format and i downloaded vista x32 and it worked fine but the problem is the touch buttoms aren't working
note:i downloaded all the drivers for x32 from the site and still they don't work and i checked device manager and found nothing not installed and b4 my format there were cool wallpapers vaio and some applications i don't remember from vaio but didn't find them on the site
I was playing a game and suddenly the game crashed and it jumped into windows ,an icon appeared saying display driver stopped working ,i entered the game again game crashed this time it restarted the system, now the system cant even show the VAIO and phoenix logo. its full of lines with extremely low resolutions,as i try to enter windows blue screen shows up and it restart the system auto. i entered safe mode and i found out ASA i uninstall the nvidia driver(8400M GT),the windows start up.Now the driver is uninstalled and i can work in windows, but in very low setting, like i am having onboard graphic chip,i cant modify my graphic card and the chip and DAC type are all unavaiable,(instead i have unknow device in my device manager) i think i need to flash my BIOS, but i searched the internet for my bios couldnt find anything,i think i need to do it manual.
I have Lenovo S10-3T convertible with touch screen. The touch screen worked perfectly with windows 8 pro but after upgrading to windows 8.1, the windows doesn't recognize my touch screen at all and I can't find (pen and touch) option in the control panel. Even in windows system information, I got (No pen or touch input is available for this display). What do I have to do to get my multi-touch screen working again on windows 8.1?
I have just been given a VAIO PCG8A2M (GRX316MP) , i was told "it's broken but if you can fix it yo can have it" so having a quick look at it there's no sign of life on the display but the lights come on and i can here the HDD heads moving about.
Looking a little more i found that all the ram is missing , so now im not sure if its worth buying some ram to see if it works or not ? The lack of ram would prob explain the lack of display but i wonder if i should be getting POST beeps at least, which im not.
So my question is if a VAIO had no ram should (if all else was working) it be getting POST beeps ?
I signed up for the t-mobile web n walk deal (after using the trial sim that came with the laptop) and it works very well, except that web n walk manager has failed - when I click the desktop icon it reports that "web n walk manager has stopped working".
T-mobile cannot help - their help desk says that even though the laptop is supplied with the t-mobile software installed they are not able to support it currently ! (There is no category on the t-mobile website for my Z11WN laptop).
I believe it is a windows update that is causing the problem - I guess it may be affecting the Globetrotter drivers or something like that, because if I do a windows restore back far enough I can get the web n walk manager working again. However this is a a real pain and not something I want to keep doing.
I can connect using just a standard dial up connection but that doesn't give me any statistics or signal strength indicators.
Does anyone know how I can fix this once and for all ? I noticed in another thread that someone recommended using the Globetrotter software - can anyone advise me on whether or not that is stable after windows (Vista) updates and is it compatible with windows Vista ? I would rather try to get web n walk working properly though.
AV mode is not working in my Sony Vaio laptop - Model VGN-CR320E , i am not sure what could be the problem is ? whenever i click on it i am getting this message " Please reinstall Instant mode application in WIndows , press any key or shut down
I recently got a sony vaio CW at bestbuy yesterday. The link for it is below. Brought it home and started using it.
Everything worked perfectly for the first hour, and then the wireless just went out. It will no longer allow me to search for wireless networks. Two other laptops in my house are working fine so its not the router.
The wireless switch on the front is ON, however the little light is not lit. When I go to the SmartWi Connection Utility in the taskbar, it only lists an on/off option for Bluetooth, no Wifi option
This is almost a classic problem. I just installed XP SP3 on a Vaio G11. I did everything according to Sony's plan. But the brightness keys don't work.
Is there a chance that Sony's drivers were written for XP SP2, and that SP3 is the cause of my problems?
Reason I'm thinking this is that SP3 recognized some devices that SP2 doesn't recognize
at first excuse me for a new thread about this problem, ý know the solution is in official sr topic but ý have no time to search !!! excuse me again
ý have a sony vaio sr39vn, ý cleaned the recovery and ý installed a clean vista but ý have some problems now !!!!!
1--FN key isnt working now ( brightness, volume control and etc .... ) 2--mode and settings buttons and functions arent also working
3--some of the drivers arent in sony support so ý found them from usa support (like wireless, webcam ) and also some of drivers in sony suport ( like hdd protection driver, spef driver
If anyone out there runs into an issue with the touchpad on a Sony Vaio where it suddenly stops working it may be due to static electricity. I bought a brand new VGN-NS240E (Jan 08 @ Best Buy) and while setting it up I ran into this issue and have seen many other reports on the WEB of the Sony touchpads suddenly dying. Try these steps for an easy fix:
1 - power down the unit. 2 - unplug the power adapter. 3 - remove the battery. 4 - hold down the power switch for about a minute or two. 5 - re-insert the battery. 6 - reconnect the power adapeter. 7 - power the unit on and see if the touchpad lives!
These quick and simple steps worked for me 2x. Noted on the second time it happened that I shocked the machine after walking across the carpet, that's why I said above I think its related to a static charge - bad design on this model of touch pad I suppose. I have Dell laptops and Acers never seen it before until this Sony.
Some days ago my wife dropped my Sony Z21 from about 1 meter. Everything seems to work fine except Wlan, Bluetooth and HSDPA. I don't think that any of those modules are broken or something as everything else survived the drop. Does anyone know if all 3 wireless options are connected through some kind oa board? If so then I assume the connection is loose and that causes the wireless to drop. At the beginning it turned on and off the wireless ramdomly...
I have a sony laptop - VGN-660N - every time I boot from the recovery DVD I get the following error:
"Cannot use this recovery disc for this computer. Confirm the model type"
I have the right discs per the label on the discs (discs are labeled for VGN-600 Series), which I purchased directly from Sony. I contacted Sony, who was worthless on the matter.
the speakers in my laptop just stopped working for no reason what so ever, to make matters worse when i plug in headphones they were fine, it's only the speakers that don't work.
Firstly the dvd rom stopped working about 6 months ago.Can live without it but now after getting a blue screen it wont boot or the screen is black.Connected it to a monitor and when it does choose to boot there is no display on the laptop screen until the login screen appears.Ran some tests on the HDD drive when its running but comes up ok.Is it likely to be a failing MB or some corruption on my OP system.
