I purchased a Sony VAIO VGN-NW270F/S with a blue ray player. Im trying to play the blue ray using the HDMI out to my Sony 46 inch HDTV, i got an error. After tech support with Sony, I basically am using my tv as a monitor and playing the blue ray there. My question is, what resolution is the blue ray playing in on my TV? The maximum resolution I could choose on the computer is 1366/768....how can i use the Blue Ray in my computer to play the full HD movie on my TV?
I have owned this laptop for 2 months. I don't play video games or watch movies on it, just normal web browsing. After a full charge I only get 1hr 59 min remaining of battery life.
all reviews say average is 3-4 hrs...again, i've never seen it say over 2hr remaining after full charge.
I took it into the sony store and they replaced the battery. this new battery gives me the same result. Is this something i should be concerned about? what are my options at this point?
I've had this laptop since early December and have noticed a noise coming from the fan. It sounds like a faint siren sound or whirring. I know that's probably an odd description but that's what it reminds me of. It's not terribly loud but just loud enough to be distracting sometimes.
This only happens when I'm not running a lot of stuff (just using Word for example) but when the fan cycles up that noise goes away. Unfortunately, I'm just using Word about 90% of the time so I hear this noise. It will make the noise for a second, then go away for a few seconds, then return.
I called Sony just to ask if there was some kind of setting (I don't know) that could be changed. They said it sounds like the fan needs to be replaced, and set up a home service call. The guy came, changed the fan and...same noise.
I've found a few references to odd-sounding fans on Sony laptops. But I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that this noise is normal and I'll just have to put up with it?
I own a Sony Vaio VGN NS190D and recently I've been receiving a "dumping physical memory error". Since I've always been able to restart and start working again, I've never paid it any mind. Just today though, I had a BSOD and no matter how many times I try, it wont go past that. I've tried the start-up repair and starting in safe mode but it still blue screens.
I just have a question regarding aftermarket upgrade of blue ray for Vaio Z series, did any one try upgrading with any aftermarket blue ray drive for Z series? If so what is the compatibility criteria and did anyone find one for Z series
I found a notebook blue ray rom for $79

but it is IDE interface I am not sure what interface is for Z series.
I have a Vaio FW series laptop and whenever i unplug the power cord from the laptop when it is running a blue screen appears. It says a bunch of stuff but i cant really make out what it says since its really quick and then the laptop restarts. This is getting very annoying. It even happen a few times when i unplugged a USB drive from the laptop. It just recently started a few days ago, before that it was perfectly fine. I have no clue what could be causing this.
Trying to get rid of these questionably useful programs -- but I don't see entries for them in add/remove programs in the control panel (or for any of the other useless VAIO software packages that come on OEM machines sans "fresh start")
I have recently bought FW 590FEB, after using it for 5 days, I got three times blue screen problem like this:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent the damage. [url]
1st blue screen, windows 7 shut down unexpectedly 2nd blue screen, windows 7, don't really know since I went to out and find out when I start the pc, it said shut down unexpectedly, 3rd blue screen, windows 7 close/shut down by itself while i was running VLC and utorrent, and it when to the screen where we can choose start windows with safe mode or normal...
I don't know what is happening with this blue screen problem, since this is my first experience with this trouble,
Is it software/drive issue or hardware? Should I restore it to factory setting? I think it it shutdown by itself, every time i use Google Chrome and utorrent.....
Bought the white Sony CPCCW17FX from Best Buy for my wife. She's been really happy with the laptop. Only problem is she's has had occasional blue screens. It's being caused by some conflict with the display driver.
We're running the 186.47's that are provided on the Sony site. Laptop doesn't want to accept the mobile drivers off the Nvidia site. This is obviously the 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium.
I got a FW590GJB. it was originally win 7 64bit installed. after a week i saw that wile i am in windows, the screen turns to black and comes to normal again with balloon error: "The ATI drives was stopped responding and successfully recovered". I didn't care. but after a month, i saw "blue screens" while using windows, and recently it happens on start up. before each blue screen there are noisy lines on screen. the colors mix and system hangs. and eventually "blue screen" comes and restarts the system. I downloaded several versions of my ATI 4650 Driver (8.36 - 8.56 - 8.65), no changes...
I used recovery dvds. it even doesn't let me finish the recovery process and crash lines happen and restarts the system... I tried win 7 32bit. same thing happened. This time I could install the windows but when desktop comes, it last for only about 2 minutes, and then the screen mixes the colors and blue screen again...
I installed Vista 32 bit. it works with no problems. I also installed XP 32bit, it worked with no problems. but i want to have win 7 64 bit on my system... what is the problem with win 7 and my system?
I have wiped my hard drive and want to install windows xp sp3. I burned this dvd from an image and I'm getting some type of stop error with a blue screen of death. This happens on the Sony Z and also on other laptops that I have tried
I replaced the screen on this FW and installed a OS every thing was fine for a wile then it would act like it cuts in and out then out for good i can see small light blue screen when it turns on , i connected it to my desktop monitor and every thing is fine shows up good, could the ribbon on the back of the screen be mis aligned or something , i checked under the keyboard and every thing seems fine there
Also i see the wireless button is not working and it states turn on the wireless but with the button not working , how do you go about turning it on ,, must be a physical connection to it, any easy fixes with out tearing it down ?
i have a FW290 CTO that is about a month old. since today, i havent been able to watch a dvd or any blu-ray movie. when i put in a dvd i got this message:
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.
so after this message, i tried to put in my dark night blu-ray disc and my intervideo BD player would not work.
what happend?
what do i do?
edit: when i try to run a BD it states " your display environment does not support protected content playback.
I have T140p with bluescreens, I've replaced the harddrive, the voltage regulator and disconnected almost every peripheral. but still - have bluescreens. Is it possible that the Cmos battery is responsible for it
I have just been given a VAIO PCG8A2M (GRX316MP) , i was told "it's broken but if you can fix it yo can have it" so having a quick look at it there's no sign of life on the display but the lights come on and i can here the HDD heads moving about.
Looking a little more i found that all the ram is missing , so now im not sure if its worth buying some ram to see if it works or not ? The lack of ram would prob explain the lack of display but i wonder if i should be getting POST beeps at least, which im not.
So my question is if a VAIO had no ram should (if all else was working) it be getting POST beeps ?
Just performed a successful XP downgrade on my Vaio Z520, but have noticed that on this copy of the Vaio Silver Desktop Theme/Appearance doesn't exist.
I had it on my SZ and loved it over the XP Blue. Is there a way to get it back? I still have the restore discs from the SZ.
I don't know whats the diference (besides the price), between VAIO TZ295N & VAIO TZ395N. Specs in all the websites I've checked say they have exactly the same components: Intel coreduo 1.33Ghz 2GB RAM DVD-RW and 64GB SSD Hardrive. I was wonder if the diference might be in the hard drive interface, with the TZ295N being PATA and TZ395N being SATA.
I'm wondering if the Blu-ray optical drive (Panasonic UJ-232A) of the (old) VAIO Z series will be able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series? I would really appreciate it if anyone is able to answer my question.
The reason I'm asking is because I'm seriously thinking of selling my VAIO Z690 & just buying the base Sony VAIO Z (VPCZ112GX/S). I may just be able to afford that base model & the icing on the cake will definitely be the UJ-232A drive being able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series & work.
Am planning to get a sony laptop for me. The design simply rocks I am getting mixed reviews about cw and E series. But i made up my mind to get one.
My budget is aroung 40000rupees. Thats around 800$. So suggest me a better one between these two for occasional moderate and less(mosltly) demanding games. I dont care whether its 14 or 15 inch.
Am looking at lower end versions of both the models.
Only difference is CW uses Nvidia Geforce 310 and the E series uses some Radeon 5000 series one. CW has 14 inch screen whereas E series has a 15.5 inch screen. In the models which i am looking at both have matte finish and both has WXGA:1366 x 768 VAIO Display.
which one should i go for. whether the screen quality will be on par to Inspiron one atleast? ( I dont need HD).
im planning on using the laptop for videos, photoshop and a bit of gaming, maybe even a bit more gaming :-)
The Vaio F Series only has 330M Nvidia Graphics Card with i7QM and up to 8GB of Ram and up to 256GB SSD.
The E Series has ATI 5650 (a less powerful version, reduced clock speed) combined with a i5 520M with up to 6Gb of Ram and up to 500GB of HDD ? Why can i not choose SSD ?
if I can use the AC Adapter of a Vaio TT on the Vaio Z. The standard AC Adapter that comes with the Vaio Z is of 19.5V and the one for the Vaio TT is of 16V, which I don't know if it's enough for the Vaio Z to function properly or if there could be any problem or damage. Both machines have batteries of 10,8V.
I have an undervolted Vaio Z by the way (last multiplier at 0.9875) so I don't know if this could help in any way for my Z to work ok with the TT AC Adapter.
I have this "problem" since I got my Z. When I start vaio update 3 utility I get this error "messageID=0008" there are no updates for your model bla bla...
However when I go to vaio support page, there are some new updates for my Z590N model (new Bios, USB patch...)
I have downloaded new version of Viao Update utility 3.2.something but I had to uninstall my current version (3.1.something), which I did. However when I started this new setup message poped up "there is no previous version installed" - abort.
I have checked esupport page where is said if you have problems with Vaio Update 3, to download Sony Shared Library which suppose to contain vaio update utility), I run installation but it doesn't install Vaio Update 3
Now, I can live with this esupport page regular visit updates,
Whats the major difference between 16.4" VAIO Display (1600x900) and 16.4" VAIO extra-wide HD display (1920x1080). Upto what angle I could see my display in VAIO Display (1600x900)? Can I watch HD movies perfectly in VAIO Display (1600x900) ?
