I just bought the Vaio F series from BestBuy this tueday and i came back to brazil and i've been having some problems with the WiFi, actualy just one problem.
So, this is a great laptop, the new i7 processor and stuff but i try to connect with my home WiFi signal, that works with my desktop, and the laptop finds it, when i click "connect" i connects but than something strange happens, i keeps connecting and unconnecting randomly, and it messes up the signal too, so when i'm trying to connect my laptop, i cant use the internet in my desktop too,
Im having an annoying issue on my VGN-Z11MN running 7 64bits:
the wifi card is disconnecting randomly, and I have to start the troubleshooter to resolve the wifi connection, and sometimes the wifi card will even disappear from the device manager list, and Ill have to reboot.
I have installed the intel AGN 5100 13.0.0.107 driver but Im not sure its the correct one to use, also I have a unknown base system device listed in other devices.
i got my laptop last month (VGN-NS110E) and i've recently been having this issue with the wifi switch as I had a MBR error on the partition and had to format everything...green light doesn't go on and i can't get it to turn on with smartWi...Sony tech support sucks bigtime....I am thinking it may be a hardware issue and I just want them to take a look at it but the "tech" told me I need to install the recovery disk first which i hate because all the unneeded extra bs that comes on it....I have misplaced my recovery disks that came with the laptop so I first installed vista ultimate and then sony told me only supports vista home premium. I don't want to order replacement disk knowing that it may not work...what I could try or where I would be able to find the recovery disk i need...?
I just ordered a Sony vaio z 690 configure to order notebook through their website(USA). When I configure vaio z690, there wasn’t an option to select my Wireless LAN (wifi) card,
so I thought there is a wifi receiver comes with this laptop by default (As it says on their product home page). Few minuets later, I got my order confirmation, and it says:
LCD 13.1" (XBRITE-DuraView™) Black Microsoft® Windows Vista® Home Premium 64-bit Trusted Platform Module / Biometric Fingerprint Sensor Microsoft® Works
QuickBooks Simple Start SuperMulti Drive Windows® Live OneCare 90-Day Trial Integrated Wireless Wide Area Network .....
Is there any way to enable the GPS on the Vaio Z with the Qualcomm chipset while maintaining wifi connectivity? I use Pdanet for sharing my 3g connection with my iphone and the only way to do this (other than using the cable, which isn't an option) is to use wifi.
I'd like to also have the ability to use the GPS functionality of the Z at the same time but because of a software restriction I can only use one or the other simultaneously.
I was wondering what the smartwi program actually does to enable GPS? Is it some sort of command it sends to the device?
I know on the earlier Z models with the Option chipset there was a command that you could use in hyperterminal to enable the GPS function, however it doesn't work for the Qualcomm and I'm unsure of whether terminal access is even possible with this device.
I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit edition on my Vaio FW490 (upgraded from Vista 64). I received the free upgrade disks from Sony. When I checked my device manager I noticed that the driver version for the WiFi Link 5100 is 11.4.3.9 dated 5/28/09. On the Sony Site, they list the version for Windows 7 as 12.4.1.11 dated 10/8/2009, and when I checked on the Intel site, they are recommending driver version 13.0.0.107 dated 10/21/09.
Can i do a simple swap with my intel wifi card? In portland we have wimax now, so i am thinking of going that way. It would be nice to keep my express card slot free and have wimax internal. I wouldn't need a specific driver sony driver to use it would I?
I'm having trouble with my wifi connection on my SXPS 16 with the Intel Wifi 5300 card.
I will be downloading something then at random times it looses connectivity and i will have to turn off my wifi and turn it back on then it works for a couple minutes and stops working once again.
I have been using internet from various sources, but now I want to share internet from my HP Envy M6 n012dx TouchSmart via Wifi Hotspot.. So How do I set up a Wifi Tethering Hotspot connection so that other devices can leech internet from me?
Also, I would like to set up Wifi Direct for file sharing with my Phone..I tired everything in my knowledge.. I even installed Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools Software too for Wifi HotSpot but it's not working either..
By the way, I'm using Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160..
I bought my HP 15 a few days ago and since yesterday (after I restarted it) it can't find my network. Also, sometimes it finds all the surrounding networks, sometimes one or two, sometimes none of them, but it never shows mine.  All my other devices connect to the network just fine and also when I connect the laptop via Ethernet cable internet works normally. I tried reinstalling the adapter and driver, but nothing happens, the problem is still here.
Specs: Vaio FW190 (purchased November 2008) X-Brite HiColor Screen (1600x900) 320GB Scorpio Black 7200rpm HD 3GB RAM Windows XP Clean of viruses and bugs.
I have a FW190, my internet works fine when plugged in, but nothing when wireless. When I hover over the Intel PROSet Wireless Utility, it says, “No supported WiFi adapters available in the system.”
Yes, the wireless switch is on … but the “on” light does not go on. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel PROSet Wireless Utility, and installed the newest update on the Sony drivers site.
I have disabled and repaired the wireless connection. I have deleted the wireless card from my system and rebooted forcing Windows to find and install it again. I have done everything I can think of except reinstalling Windows...........
last week i tried to upgrade my wifi to 5300 from 3945 but when inserted it showed up but it said no connection availalbe with an X through the signal bars so i just changed it back to 3945.
Today i tried to upgrade to a 4965 and for some reason the same problem occured. I thought the 5300 might of been BIOS LOCKED or something as that was suggested to me by another member on the forum but i found it odd that both cards were somehow blocked in a way, but they were still attached to the laptop and showing up as working in the device manager. nowa after giving up on installing the 4965 I reinserted my 3945 and now its showing up as no connections available . are there any settings in the advanced tab that i need to change?
I never install the Intel Wifi configuration utility so i dont know if that would help or not. i have tried switching the antennas back and forth from one and two to see if that works and taking off the 3rd antenna but no luck with the 4965. please help me out. im in urget help of getting this problem fixed. thanks.
The 5300 was taken from a Sony as I've heard and the 4965 was bought off ebay and was being used fine in a Dell 1330 and is still working with that laptop as thats where it came from
I had replaced mobo on my dead SZ 4 series (don't ask why) and couldn't stop there since I was in the move thus consequently contemplated about possible upgrades. For now I settled for fan, WLAN card and CPU upgrade. If it works well, I might install SSD also.
1.Fan Modification
As you all proud SZ owners know, fan is very noisy on this machines so it made me think if there is any possible modification to reduce the noise. Since the BIOS is controlling it there is not much to do on the RPM part (in win at least, but more on that later) I settled for a fan and fan casing swap from SZ 4 to SZ 7 series.
In the photos you can see that fans, fan casings and heat-sinks are of different design. Besides design differences, voltage and the amperage are the same, 5V-300mA.
Only way was to install the fan and the casing of the SZ 7 heat-sink to my old one as one of the heat-sinks bolt bushings is off for a few millimeters.
There has to be some care exercised when prying off the fan casing, some heating was required from the aluminium side on three pins were casing is attached.
Not to be simple, the difference is also in the inlet hole. One on the SZ 7 heat-sink is bigger and off centre compared to SZ 4s. Had to do some filing there, to match it to the size of the new fan. Fan of SZ7 is not bigger, it is due to different design of the fan eye and its volutes...................
I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 which has no built in wireless.
I got given to me a 'Broadcom 4318 KFBG' mini pci card which I think should work.
The problem: As soon as I put the card into the PCI slot (and Yes its seated properly) and bootup the laptop, nothing shows on the display not even the post messages.
Running windows XP SP2 and I also tried running 2 different live linux versions and still no display on the screen, its like there is some kind of hardware conflict but I'm lost at where to go next.
I was having trouble of being disconnected every 2 minutes so I thought to reinstall the OS.
But my bad luck, I 4got the password for my wifi. Can anyone tell me how to find the password as I have saved it in Intel wifi. here is the screen for how it looks? Any way to find my password?
Just got a new Latitude (my fourth this year), and when I toggle the switch on the side to turn it on/off, it doesnt turn off. The "WIFI" indicator light in the upper right side is also not turning off

I was wondering what wifi card is in the MBP. I am speaking of the newest MBPs which have the Nvidia cards and the Intel CPU (late '08 and current '09 versions).
Also, do you think it is worth it to install a Linux OS on it? I think a dual boot of Mac OS and Linux would be interesting. But, does Linux work on it?
I found this: [url]
I think I have also read of the MBP being able to run Ubuntu as well. The wifi card is one of the few issues? But, which wifi card is in there?
Thanks for any info. I was just curious about the MBP. I also have read of Red Hat wanting to have a Linux OS made especially for the Mac. Not sure if there's any progress with that, though.
Well after my 1710 died, I requested the Studio XPS16 and finally got it. The thing is, its not working as planned.
I am not a noob to this, but I am stuck. I have (according to the Order Page) the Dell 1520 WLAN card. I downloaded the drivers and it still won't work. The WiFi light is on, but the laptop still thinks its disabled. When I go to enable it, it says it will be enabled, but it is stuck in disabled. Do I have a dud here?
I wiped the computer, reinstalled all the drivers... but maybe I am missing something?
