I've had a look through [url] but drivers there stop at the AR6. To the best of my knowledge the chipset is an intel p965 and I have installed these drivers from the intel site as well as the Realtek and nvidia drivers.

Updated: Found a better way to backup Bios only, Please see the end of this message
Let say your Vaio Z is using Bios R4040M3 and you move to Bios R4041M3 to use the official VT support. Later on, you want to move back to R4040M3 to use the Advance Menu hack. Unfortunately, you cannot move back as Sony never publish the R4040M3 Bios update. This is my current situation.
I decided to investigate a way to back up the current Bios. Using a program called Universal extractor, I managed to extracted the files in the original Bios update. The bios update uses a program called Insydeflash to flash the Bios. The Insydeflash uses a file called platform.ini to control its setting.
In the platform.ini file, there is a section called [FDFile]. The section [FDFile] has a parameter called BackupName. If we put in a file name here, the Insydeflash should save your current Bios into that file. Unfortunately, I cannot make it work with the Sony supplied Insydeflash. (version 3.38).
I managed to get the newer version of Insydeflash (version 3.72). The newer version has a new ini section called [BackupROM], as the following:
..........
[BackupROM]
Flag=0
FilePath=c:
FileName=....................
Is there a guide that explains how it is possible to successfully edit a bios file for flashing? Or could a person explain how it should be done

I didn't install as I had already enabled VT using the EFI tweak. In addition, I am not sure whether I can turn on the Advanced Menu again after installing this Bios.
I am very close to deciding on Sony for my next machine.
Half of the people hate them. Half love them. Half the reviews say there are crap. Half say they are machines built by Gods.
It is a lot to sift through.
The WEIRDEST thing I have heard is about the BIOS and how it is not really a completely hardware controlled BIOS like most are .....
I'm having some strange happenings with my Vaio FZ of late. I took it apart a couple of days ago to clean it up and after re-assemebling and hitting the power button,
the computer wouldn't go past the initial "Vaio,Phoenix,Intel" screen. I tried a couple of hours later and it booted fine.
(Note, I've took it apart on two occasions before and have had zero problems after).....
I have a VGN-FS850/W notebook. When I turn it on I can't activate the Bios screen. I've tried hitting the F2 key nothing happens. I've taken the memory out trying to trigger a bios event but that does not help. Sometimes it won't even show the Sony Logo.
It has a hard drive that has an lsass.exe error at boot-up.
I install a brand new HD and I get the same problem, can't get to the bios. I have scanned the drive for viruses. It a had a few minor ones but not Sasser as I suspected.
Is it possibly a bios battery that is dead.
Does anyone know why the bios what appear or what else could be the problem.
I got a Sony VGN- FW11E laptop the one with p8400 processor. Recently I updated bios to R0270Y0 from R0250Y0 in order to enable virtualisation since then my cpu runs to 100% of its speed 2.26mhz. I used different power profiles but the speed is stuck to 2.26mhz. I used different programmes to monitor the cpu speed however the results were the same.
Also the fan runs longer now.
Does anyone have the R0250Y0 bios?
BIOS updates for many models to enable VT. Some showed up in US site, like FW590, but others are listed in oversea.
Like the FW290J that I have, can use R1100Y0 BIOS update. Basically look for last 2 characters of your current BIOS version then see what's available.
Here is a link from oversea:

I have a FZ11S laptop. On boot, how can I access the BIOS screen? My desktop is with the Del key but Vaio must have a different key I guess.
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust saw the new Z in a local computer store. The bios version is R5030M3. The video driver is the latest one. The speed mode has no problem. (I will be very surprise if it has problem.) Sony definitely has the Bios and driver to make our Z work in Windows 7. I don't understand why they don't release them to resolve all the problems that we are facing in Windows 7 upgrade.

I bought this laptop for about 2 and a half years and I got the extended warranty for 3 years. After I bought it about 3-4 months after I have called and asked for the BIOS password but they stalled and stalled and stalled and I never obtained it. Now I call again to ask for the BIOS password w/ all the information they are acquiring like receipt etc. Now they say that my warranty has expired. Are they not supposed to give all information of the laptop to the customer that purchased their products? I need the BIOS to reformat my OS..
