Sony :: How To Backup Vaio Z Original Bios While Flashing New Bios

Let say your Vaio Z is using Bios R4040M3 and you move to Bios R4041M3 to use the official VT support. Later on, you want to move back to R4040M3 to use the Advance Menu hack. Unfortunately, you cannot move back as Sony never publish the R4040M3 Bios update. This is my current situation.
I decided to investigate a way to back up the current Bios. Using a program called Universal extractor, I managed to extracted the files in the original Bios update. The bios update uses a program called Insydeflash to flash the Bios. The Insydeflash uses a file called platform.ini to control its setting.
In the platform.ini file, there is a section called [FDFile]. The section [FDFile] has a parameter called BackupName. If we put in a file name here, the Insydeflash should save your current Bios into that file. Unfortunately, I cannot make it work with the Sony supplied Insydeflash. (version 3.38).
I managed to get the newer version of Insydeflash (version 3.72). The newer version has a new ini section called [BackupROM], as the following:

Sony :: Flashing New BIOS Sr290 Froze, Now It Won't Boot At All
Apr 1, 2009I was flashing the newest BIOS to my SR290 last night and in the middle of flashing it froze. I waited quite a while to make sure it wasn't just taking its sweet time but eventually had to pull the battery as holding the power button didn't even do anything.
So I wait a few and then try to boot it back up and it won't power up at all. I plug it in and the charging light won't turn on.

Jan 27, 2010i have a sony vaio vgn-ns290j laptop and i was told I needed to do a bios update..well i downloaded the bios driver from the sony website..started doing the update..and mid way through the laptop blue screened. Now when I go to turn it on it gets power but does not post..Is there a way I can reset it back to the default..?? why does sony offer a driver that bricks your motherboard?

Mar 12, 2010I was flashing my bios of my dell xps studio 16 (i don't know which 17xx it is... it has i5 and 4gb of ram. some ati vidfeo card with 1gb of vram, 15.6 LCD)
And then it froze for about an hour. So I unplugged power, took out battery and tried to boot it up. To my dismay, nothing showed up on the screen.
I have so much stuff on my HD that I need.
What are some ways to fix my laptop? Do I have to send it to dell? Will I lose all my data?
Dell :: Flashing BIOS On XPS 1340
Feb 10, 2009Last week I received my brand new Dell Studio XPS 1340. After some days I got the "Power Adapter cannot be determined .....". So I called Dell Tech Support. He told me to flash the BIOS from A02 to A03. So I did. Under the flashing I got a bluescreen. So the information on the BIOS was gone. So yesterday a Dell Techincan came to my house and replaced the motherboard with a new one. I noticed that this motherboard has BIOS version A01 (the oldest one). I also noticed that the processor fans is always on 4000 RPM. It never slows down to 2000 RPM, even if the temperature is on 40 degree celcius.
So I though this had to be something with the old BIOS version. So I called Dell, and I tried to flash from A01 to A02. But the same bluescreen came, this time, lucky for me, before the flashing! So nothing get destroyed!

Seems like PHLASHNT.SYS has something to with this? Have someone have this same problem as me? The fans never stop, and I think its because of the old bios version. And:
1) No errors on the diagnosic test (full system scan)
2) I switched from Vista 32 bit to Vista Business 64 bit (original) with the signed drivers from dell.com (all my drivers are verified)

Dec 4, 2009Reason for this is to flash your BIOS the safer way.
Windows has alot of services that can potentially hang the flashing process, hence DOS Mode where no other process is running is the safe way to flash.
First of all get the package here
Extract all the files to Desktop
Go into the folder.
You should see a HP Drive Key Utility.
Install it.
Open the Program With Administrative Permission with Right Click as shown below:.......
Acer :: Aspire 8930G Bios Flashing Went Wrong
Sep 29, 2009I flashed the Bios (from Acer webpage vers. 1.10 to vers 1.13) on my notebook Acer Aspire 8930G - 864G64Bn. No I have a really big problem.
I can switch on my notebook and it shows the Acer empowering people screen, but stay there. Nothing happens. The only thing I can do is press F2 (is the only thing which is offered on the screen) But also there it just says please wait.... and nothing happens.
At the first time reboot after flashing I was able to enter the Bios, but since than I can't.
So I read a lot of using a usb thumb drive or an external floppy drive.
Will this work for my notebook and should I copy just the .FD file on it?

I still have that rom (gsx) and now I want to burn it on a cd-rom and flash my card with the juan software.
So first I burned Juan's software on a cr-rw (don't close the disk). Afterwards I added my old rom. When I want to flash it and I typ:
nvflash -4 -5 -6 GTX1.rom it says that it can't find the file...
Acer Aspire 5810TZ :: Flashing BIOS - Boot It Up And It Just Showing Logo
Mar 13, 2013Flashing the bios. I have a Aspire 5810TZ. I boot it up and it just says 'acer' and won't go any further. I went to the download page for BIOS on us.acer.com and it has a zip file with 5 files:
JM4151135.exe FLA... GPC_V135.bin readme.txt FLASH.BAT
What do I do? I have tried copying the files to a USB and powering on with Fn-Esc held down. After letting go of the power button and holding Fn-Esc a different screen appears after 30 seconds. I let go and have given it 30 minutes but it is not doing anything. I have read online from other people the power button should be blinking. Do I need to rename one of the files.
Dell :: XPS 1640 A14 BIOS Upgrade Failed, Now What?
Apr 4, 2010So I tried updating my BIOS to version A14, the current one on Dell's site. Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64, btw. It seemed to update fine, but when it restarted, I got a black screen.
I waited about 20 minutes, powered off, then back on. It booted into Windows, now however my keyboard does not work. Most keys do not work, and the ones that do produce incorrect characters.
Also, whenever I restart Windows, it does not reboot. It will hang at a black screen until I power off and back on. Currently typing this on a USB keyboard.
When I go into setup, it does say version A14, so I'm assuming it went through, but for some reason is not compatible with my system. Can I downgrade to fix this, and if so, where can I find an older BIOS version?
Acer :: 7720 Bios Flash Failed
Aug 15, 2008i jsut DL'd the CL50134_Winflash.zip from acers website to try and fix some issues i've found this can fix, i extracted it, shutdown all apps i could, hit start or run and up popped an error message.. system froze... sat there for about 30+ min (i was freakin the whole time) and nothing didn't move.. didn't budge... my screen saver popped on but before that it hadn't moved an inch... can't toggle capslock or numlock.. can't even get rid of the screen saver now.... i shut the system down (the bad way) and now nothing.. can't get it to turn on at all....

May 25, 2009I have a two year old 5633WLMI (Nvidia graphics) Upgraded the RAM to 4gb only to find that 3gb was being shown in BIOS and Vista 32/64.
Downloaded the latest BIOS update from Acer, (v3.50) updated via Dos - Boot USB pen drive, haflway through updating it turned off, now DEAD, no power/lights/screen - tried silent/forced BIOS update but failed due to no power to board.
I contacted Acer, who were not that helpful to be honest, who told me to contact my local service centre (São Paulo, Brazil) again they were not to helpful. so I'm now sat here with an expensive paperweight.
Fairly sure the MBD has fried, so, How on earth do I get one to me to fit?
every site I've seen requires you to send the old to them but they won't ship to brazil or are incredibily expensive.
Acer :: Aspire 5315 Failed BIOS Update
Nov 9, 2009I attempted to update the BIOS in my Acer Aspire 5315 laptop to no avail, the winbios program froze straight away, while erasing the BIOS I think. So since then I havn't been able to start the laptop, no fans, but does blink a red LED beside the little light icon when left for longer than 10 seconds or so when you press the power button. I've tried the fn+esc method to boot it to flash the bios but nothing at all, tried it with USB and CD-ROM. I've tried removing all the hardware and starting it, I've also tried resetting the CMOS, still no luck.
I'm thinking that the red LED might be a little indicator of hope, or is it maybe the capacitor filling up
Acer :: Crisis Recovery CD, AS5520 Failed BIOS Upgrade
Dec 30, 2009I have an ACER Aspire 5520, (model ICW50) with AMD Turion TK55. I tried to upgrade it with the BIOS available under the model's specified page in ACER site, version 1.33 (IC50133.WPH).
Unfortunately I was naive enough to try flash32.exe, which is the windows base version of the flashing program; now I have a dead BIOS. Windows froze completely, I had to unplug and disconnect battery to have it down, and it never came up.
Then I did a lot of research and I found and browsed hundreds of pages about Crisis Recovery Mode (CRM). From all I read there are some misconceptions I want to get past:
1 - Deal with different CRM versions, which get accessed by Fn+B, or Winkey+B; on my case I have found that CRM gets accessed with Fn+Esc.
I know it, because instead of powering up and then dying in 3 or 4 seconds on an eternal loop, when I press and hold Fn+Esc and then I connect the power adapter (with battery disconnected), I get a quick orange flash under the power button. So, when I press the power button the computer keeps running, fan is running, and it is checking HD and CD-ROM drives.
2 - There is a lot of myth about the way one has to press and hold Fn+Esc. You just have to press it before you connect the power cable. As long as you get the quick orange flash under the power button, you know the PC is in CRM. I have done all the fancy combinations of holding those keys down, but it all ends up in the same. By the way, even if you connect the battery, instead of the power adapter, once you are holding Fn+Esc it gives the same result: orange flash, you are in CRM. Of course you do not want to flash it using the battery, that's why the emphasis on connecting the power adaptor instead.
3 - Most of the info I found about this matter then turns to building the Crisis Recovery Disk (a floppy) or a CR pendrive. It does not solve my problem because when in CRM, the computer completely ignores the USB ports, the 4 of them, I tried one by one, be it with 2 different kinds of USB floppy drives, or pendrives duly formatted in FAT. There is no blinking of light on either. There is no attempt at all to access any of the USB ports......................

I have been reading around the forums and discovered a method to try an emergency recovery by getting the rompaq bios and holding down the Windows Key + B when I turn on the system.

Just bought an external USB Floppy drive to try this emergency recovery. I tried the USB - but it wouldn't work. I am getting different results here - but not what I want.

With the USB Floppy plugged in: When I hold down Win+B - the caps light flashes for a lot longer now, it looks like it initializes the floppy drive (green light comes on for just a moment) - but then nothing - just flashing caps lock for a bit and then finally a restart again into the doom loop. It never appears to begin to read the floppy disk or search for a bios file.

What am I doing wrong? What can I try? Does the disk need to be leabeled a certain way? Does my BIOS file need to be renamed?

I bought a replacement battery pcga-BP2E for my sony vaio vgn 417M.It ran off the battery and showed it was charging but % didn't go up. Every time I connect the power cable the battery light flashes rapidly and I can't find in any manual what it means.
Using my original working battery the battery light flashes slowly as it should and the laptop works ok.
10 days and I am still waiting for a relpy from the supplier atleast I started my complaint through paypal.

I also tried the Inside BIOS crisis mode (fn+r) with the BIOS file on my USB drive but it doesn't work and tries to access the file on the USB drive but boots normally instead to the error again. (Couldn't try it with removed battery as I have to remove the whole back to remove the battery on the Z510).
Sony :: Graphics Card Has Failed (Vaio VGN FE21M)
Jul 10, 2009I'm fairly sure that my graphics card has died, the startup screen has a green grid whenever I turn the laptop on, and it only runs in safe mode.
I'm aware that in terms of pricing this could either be quite modestly priced, or really horrific, depending on whether or not the card is part of the motherboard.

Sony :: TT RAID Failed Keyboard Destroyed What Happened
May 4, 2010My RAID failed yesterday and one of the new drives I bought is dead. I only had it for less than a day.
I don't know if it is was the drive or RAID but either way the drive does not work but the connector does so.
I'm most likely going to send a ram module I bought back as I’m unsure the voltages of that ram.
My keyboard also developed a problem. Not all the keys work. I looked at it and the connector is burnt the middle of it. The keyboard connector is what goes into the sound board. I'm not 100% certain how it happened may be it was either the ram or RAID that did that or some other unrelated fluke caused by something else. I kept on powering of and on without logging of in test mode and may be that did it. I'm not a smoker and I never physically did that.
The ram I originally had was 7-10-F1 the ram I bought was a 4GB 7-10-F2. I think what has confused me is that I googled and read that the ram I bought was CL8 when I had originally CL7 it makes no sense to me to me that ram could be CL8 when the first letter is C7?
I put my laptop on my desk like I normally do and it just turned off. I powered it on and it said no OS found. I opened it and the connector looked fine and the KB was ok at that point..................
Sony :: New F-series... Failed To Start Database Service Error
May 7, 2010I just got my new system, and wanted to remove the crapware before creating my recovery disks. I did that, then ran the Sony utility to create the recovery disks. I did not install anything.
One thing I uninstalled was SQL Server. I have no need of it.
Building the recovery froze at various stages of completion... 44%, 27%, 21%. I got an alert with the error, "Failed to start database service". I finally caught that error right away and dismissed -- then the system finished building the recovery disks.
Great -- now I have to wonder, are the recovery disks even valid?
Also, what database service does the system want, and what process wants it? I now get this error at arbitrary times. Sometimes on startup. Usually whenever I do anything with install/remove programs. So is this some new Windows 7 enhancement to the registry? Have I created a time bomb in my system by deleting SQL Server? If Windows 7 needs this, why did it let me delete it?
So far I wish I had a DOS machine. It's unfortunate that my work requires me to use Windows -- the OS treats me badly, and I can't use my new machine until I can predict whether the initial setup is valid.

May 16, 2010Hey guys I have had my SXPS 1645 for almost 8 months now and I recently have had issues with it. Whenever I turn it on, it seems to boot fine (maybe a few more clicks then usual) and the boot up screen is tinted blue and the screen flashes. The OS seems to work fine as it logs in and everything, yet the screen tint and flashing remains. I assume its a problem with the RGBLED display, but I am not sure how exactly I can remedy this problem.

Mar 6, 2008After trying many drivers and having many questions left unanswered, I decided I wanted to try this route to see how it goes.
I was told when I bought my FX2500m that I could flash it with the 7900GTX BIOS since they are both the same card basically.
I'm having problems where I can play some games no problem, and others lock-up after only seconds of play, sifting through 5 drivers (NBF and Xtreme-G) I decided either I have a faulty card or maybe the FX2500m doesn't have a shader or whatever that some of the games I'm testing it with need.
I only have a couple more days to report this card as a DoA so I'm wanting to test all the possibilities before (possibly) shipping it back.
Long story short, can someone give me a link to a 7900GTX BIOS? And give me a quick run-down on how to go about actually doing the flash and backing up my own?
