I have been having a lot of issues with my Precision M4700 stalling during boot, directly on the display of the Windows logo so I am attempting to reinstall, btw there are serious issues with recovery mode but that is another issue.
My system is English spec but was bought in Germany so I have a German tag. When I choose the firmware and drivers for my machine I am offered a very different versions to those offered for my model. In particular, I see CV version 2.2 when the version offered without using my system tag is 2.3. Are there technical hardware differences or is it just that the German language version of the software isn't yet available?
Just opened my girlfriend's laptop, and saw that it had:
CD/DVD Drive TSL462 ver. C
PC2 4200S 4-4-4-12 latency RAM 1 512 MB stick
Dell P/N 0C9063 WiFi Card
I was wondering if someone could give me a link to updated drivers/firmware for the DVD drive and the Wifi Card. I already updated the Intel Chipset from the Intel website.
Also, what is the best kind of RAM it will accept? I was thinking two 1GB sticks of pc2-5300, but I don't know if it'll accept that much? It is Dual channel memory, but it's only using one channel right now obviously. Any help is appreciated, as I need to get her computer in working order by Friday.
i need link to download Dell XPS M1530 A06 Bios Firmware "i know its alittle old"

Does the Windows drivers upgrade also upgrades the video firmware as well?
Sony has just released a firmware upgrade for UJ-220 Blu-ray drive.
It seems to fix the problem with some BD movies not being recognized by my drive. A list of compatible models can be found here.
I have this laptop and have used it for 2.5 years with great success, besides the touchpad reversal/random clicking issues (fixed under warranty). I'm using XP SP3. I bought a spindle of DVD-Rs and they aren't recognized as being empty using ImgBurn. Same brand I usually buy, too, which has worked before with no problems or coasters.
I checked and this SZ680 has a MATSUA UJ-852S drive. Right now it has v1.01, I've searched and found/tried this:
[url]
But that mentions the UJ-852 and I have 852s. Either way, it doesn't work, just fails and says "F/W loader does not apply." I searched and also found: [url]

I have recently posted about issues I was getting in Fallout 3 and several people have suggested that I use the NVidia Beta Drivers.
I was just wondering what other people's experiances have been with the M1530 and the beta drivers? I have tried to search for answers, but they seem thin at best .....
My new studio 15 (1555) arrived today and the instructions advised to update the computer with the latest Bios and drivers.
I followed the instructions and all was going well (I could see various things being downloaded) until my son clicked on a window that had popped up (believe it was from McAfee) and the computer switched off.
I went back to the Dell support to ascertain if everything had been downloaded properly and attempted to download the files again unfortunately I kept getting a message that no files have been selected .....
I know what the website says for the DV9000t but wondered if there is a newer BIOS than the F.29 listed or if drivers for other models will work?
View 4 Replies View RelatedUpdated: Found a better way to backup Bios only, Please see the end of this message
Let say your Vaio Z is using Bios R4040M3 and you move to Bios R4041M3 to use the official VT support. Later on, you want to move back to R4040M3 to use the Advance Menu hack. Unfortunately, you cannot move back as Sony never publish the R4040M3 Bios update. This is my current situation.
I decided to investigate a way to back up the current Bios. Using a program called Universal extractor, I managed to extracted the files in the original Bios update. The bios update uses a program called Insydeflash to flash the Bios. The Insydeflash uses a file called platform.ini to control its setting.
In the platform.ini file, there is a section called [FDFile]. The section [FDFile] has a parameter called BackupName. If we put in a file name here, the Insydeflash should save your current Bios into that file. Unfortunately, I cannot make it work with the Sony supplied Insydeflash. (version 3.38).
I managed to get the newer version of Insydeflash (version 3.72). The newer version has a new ini section called [BackupROM], as the following:
..........
[BackupROM]
Flag=0
FilePath=c:
FileName=....................
Thing is I don't think that the previous owners updated anything... ever... lol and I was wondering if, for instance bios updates are like Windows service pack updates in that they are cumulative?
I went to the Dell download site and it had 17 driver updates for this service tag. The original bios version for this machine was v.09, I did the update and it's is now v.17 - but the question is, should I have done a bunch in between somehow?
On their website Dell says the v17 bios update just changes the pre-charge timeout from 2 to 6 hours (whatever that means lol) and what I'd like to know is have I missed better - as in more useful - bios features by not doing all the bios updates that must have come between my original v.09 and the current v.17? .....
So mine will be arriving this Thursday. will it have latest drivers and bios?

View 10 Replies View RelatedWas having an issue on bios A12 (I think it was) with the brightness (function keys were not adjusting it properly), so updated the bios to A15 and the latest intel drivers as advised. (have intel, not nvidia).
Now the screen on boot is either blank or with only blue lines.
Can hear it booting into windows so the system on the whole seems fine.
Have got it working successfully on an external monitor via the vga port. I have tried to reapply the A15 bios and reinstall the intel drivers but not changed anything. The display properties in windows shows the laptop monitor as stuck on 640x480 and low colours. screen is off on 640x480 and if upped to the only other option 800x600 gives blue lines.
If you navigate to the drivers' download page for Inspiron 7520, you will notice under "BIOS" that there is a version A11 (released date: October 15, 2012) available for download. However, the small print says "Applies to: Dell Vostro 3560 system BIOS". Is it safe to flash my current BIOS version A04 to A11 for my Inspiron 7520? If not, why is that item listed in the first place?
View 15 Replies View RelatedUsing windows 8.1 i've uptaded my intel hd 4000 drivers, restarted and lauched a 3d game. After few seconds I tried alt+tab and then everything got stalled and eventually with lots of artifacts on screen I've got a message about a system crash and that system now is dumpin information to a file and next it will restart. In that moment I've panicked and hard reseted (so memory dump hadn't finished).
So now when I try to boot - for a quite some time there is a black screen and then a list of boot options pops up:
Normal Startup ,  bios setup , boot menu ....  but the keyboard is not working at all.
So after connecting a usb keyboard I entered boot options and there iv noticed something strange:
Link to image
EC version is messed up.
Keyboard is not working at all and some other things.
On top of that when I'm choosing normal startup the windows "wheel" is turning but its newer getting to boot.
Is there a guide that explains how it is possible to successfully edit a bios file for flashing? Or could a person explain how it should be done

Seems like there are still problems with the SATA II 3.0gb spec.
Many of us have brought Dell XPS 15s (L501X) an year ago - they are working great.
However all recent laptops now are coming with UEFI as default, with a legacy fallback option.
I believe current bios (A08) is actually a locked version of Phoenix Tiano Core UEFI.
Does dell have any update or is at least planning to launch one soon?
We need it for full functionality of Windows 8 and get it boot from gpt..., otherwise l501x is a powerful enough machine with i7 & a hot nvidia gpu.
I actually have TWO 9-Cells, and they are both drain pathetically fast, whereas when I got it in August 2007, they lasted at least twice that.
View 10 Replies View RelatedFor quite a while my GF has nagged me for a "nice laptop", i.e. a MacBook. With the new models out, the old ones (just before the latest one-piece-thingies) should be easier to find. Most of her friends have one and I am soon getting my bonus, so starting to shop around.
Myself, I am a ThinkPad evangelist (those "ugly, square, black things" according to my GF), and have no trouble picking a used one. With Macs I am basically into uncharted territory, hense my post.
1) I am concerned if the previous owner has enabled features that would interfere with our privacy - remote activation of camera, remote access, etc. How can I check this and make sure she will not participate in some amateur BigBrother?
2) What should I check on a 13 inch MacBook except the obvious battery, fan noise, scratches and dirt beyond normal?
3) Does the Mac have BIOS, drivers, etc. I should upgrade before I hand it to her?
