Sony :: Upgrade From Home Premium 64 To Ultimate 64 On Z690
Apr 6, 2009I recently purchased the new VGN-Z690 and thought i would save some money by ordering it with the Home Premium (64bit) OS since I already had Vista Ultimate disks. I went to do an upgrade by installing the Ultimate disks, but the option to upgrade was greyed out.
The only option was to do a clean install, which I want to avoid due to all the other software that is on it already.

Oct 27, 2009I'm one of those people that purchased a notebook during the free Vista to W7 upgrade period so I'm eligible for the no cost W7 upgrade. However, I would also like to additionally upgrade from Home Premium to W7 Ultimate now that it's available.
What would be the most efficient and economical route to combine all these upgrades and include a student discount? Is there a way to do this so that I only have to upgrades once?

I am starting a massive update project on my Vaio Z now that I have collected all the necessary parts. My Z is a VGN-Z27GN and the current configuration is with a 2.53GHz CPU, 4GB RAM, BluRay burner and a 16GB Mtron Pro 7000 Solid State Drive (when I originally ordered it I a couple months ago I had the standard 320GB hard Disk replaced with the SSD). Though it's only 16GB it works for me as I only use it for the OS itself, all my data and files are on external disks.
My current upgrade project now that I've gathered all the parts is:
- X9100 3.06GHz Extreme Edition CPU
- Kingston HyperX low-latency DDR3 SODIMM 4GB
- Solidata X1 SSD 32GB (currently the fastest 240MB/s read, 220MB/s write SSD)
I am posting here a brief benchmark set on Everest with my current configuration and will after the upgrades repeat the tests. I am running Windows XP SP3. Boot-up takes approximately 14 seconds and overall as it is the system is extremely fast and ultra-responsive. As you can see by both the base system's performance and the current Mtron SSD, the numbers are really good as they are.
So, I am eager to see the tests results after the upgrade is complete.
Here's my dilemma:
I have no clue how to open the Vaio Z and get the CPU or the SSD inside (replacing the RAM is obviously a no-brainer). So, I would like to request help (ideally a step-by-step thing) on how to crank the Z open to access the CPU and the HD compartment. I do not have the faintest clue on how to do it.

Also, I used the Mini PCI-E WiFi Antenna from ebay:

Antenna fits nicely into disassembled/"lightened" Lenovo UltraBay III adapter and can be bolted with a small screw so it is completed fixed.

I'm in the process of purchasing a Dell Vostro 1310 on behalf of a family member who's just started University (College)
I've configured the one we want into a shopping cart at the Dell Store. However, it only comes with Vista Home BASIC included. I can upgrade it via Dell to Business or Ultimate for a further $237. I would rather have Home PREMIUM but Dell does not offer that for Vostro as it's a "business" system. That's fine. But Home Basic is not suitable.
Here is what I'm planning and I want to run it past the experts here before going ahead.
* Purchase the Vostro 1310 from Dell with HOME BASIC included in the price.
* Purchase ULTIMATE UPGRADE for $80 from MS via offer for ADDITIONAL PRODUCTS at the itsnotcheating.com.au site.
* Take delivery of the laptop from Dell with HOME BASIC pre-installed
* Use the ULTIMATE UPGRADE to do an in-place upgrade of the the pre-installed Vista HOME BASIC to ULTIMATE...
HP Pavilion Dv5 OS/Software :: Deactivate Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade Before Installing On Another Computer?
Aug 16, 2012I have an HP Pavilion dv5 that cam,e with Win 7 Home Premium. I have upraded the OS to Win 7 Ulitimate.
I now am going to sell the dv5 and want to install the Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade on a different computer. Do I have to deactivate the Win 7 Ultimate upgrade license, or can I just restore the dv5 to factory condition using the Recovery Drive .
And then just install the Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade on another computer?

Oct 4, 2009I'm just looking for information / opinions on how to get the best deal for an upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.
I purchased my Dell Latitude E6500 direct from Dell USA Small Business on 2008-11-04, and shipped on 2008-11-21. It was pre-installed with Windows Vista Ultimate.
I've seen that systems purchased more recently (~June or July) qualify for a free upgrade from Vista to 7. I'm guessing there is nothing to qualify me for such a free upgrade, but considering that I haven't even had this system for a year yet, should there be any other upgrade discounts or specials available - either through Dell, directly from Microsoft, etc.?
Especially with the scores of users who claim that Windows 7 is really just another service pack to Vista, and with Apple offering their latest OS upgrade for a mere $29, I would certainly hope I'm not looking to pay the $219.99 as listed at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/default.aspx - the same price as if I had never purchased Vista and upgraded a 7-year-old XP installation instead.
Dell Latitude E6330 :: Not Recognizing Japanese Keyboard After Upgrade To Win 7 Ultimate
Mar 13, 2013We have a Latitude E6330 that was brought over from Japan running Windows 7 Professional.
The new user wanted teh default language to be English but still be able to use the Japanese characters on the keyboard as needed and so a copy of Windows 7 ultimate was installed on it. This achieved the goal of changing the primary language to English, but due to the fact that this was a US version of Ultimate and the original OS was Japanese, it did not due an upgrade but instead did a new install.
A side effect of this is now several Japanese keys are not recognized by the computer. Is there a driver or something that i will need to install for those keys to be mapped properly? I thought Windows would automatically recognize the Japanese keyboard.

1. Upgrade the HD from a 5400 to a 7200, I have the HD.
2. Install Windows Vista Business - I have an original retail version, and I absolutely need this.
I have the Vista Business Retail DVD. What I want to do is have Windows and the dell partitions configured exactly as they came with the original computer, only with Vista Business, and on the new hard disk. I don't want to alter Media Direct, or delete the restoration partition. Everything should be the same except the Windows Versio

I want to upgrade this to a premium carbon fibre lid.
The ones in the UK for the SZ1-5 are a little bit cheaper. The North American models did not have an SZ5/X model.
Basically i would like to know were the designs for the SZ1-7 premium models any different? Or do the SZ6/X-SZ7/X models lids designed differently and if so how? Are they stronger etc?
Would one even fit? I think all the 13.3 LED models share the same screens so it should fit. If you have owned a SZ1-5/X and a SZ6/7/X how did they look to you?
I cannot find anything about a possible difference in patterns.
If you know about this could you link for me the differences in patterns between both of these models SZ1-5 SZ6-7/X..............

The only reason I was asking was because I was installing one of the shields on my iphone and a small part became affixed to my desk. When I tried to take it off, it took the paint off the desk as well. Dec 29, 2009My SZ was destroyed but the insurance is paying for it (hooray!), now I have to decide what notebook to get. I loved my SZ, it was thin (especially the screen), lightweight, fast, and well built. Makes me sad that they got rid of it. It appears that the next closest model is the Z, which seems nice but isn't quite the same. It looks as though the keys are smaller are further spaced apart (why??) and it looks a bit chunkier (especially the screen), although the other features seem nice.
if there will be a debut of any new business class premium notebooks at CES in a few weeks? Should I wait or just buckle down and get the Z?

Apr 17, 2009Just received my new CTO Z-690 today with vista home premium (64 bit), and to save a little on cost, bought an OEM Vista Ult 64bit separately.
Now I'd like to install vista ultimate instead and i just want to make sure i have the steps right.
1. backup/create recovery disks just in case something messes up.
2. install vista ultimate, wiping out everything
3. install drivers from sony's website
lastly, 2 questions
1) since my current drivers are for vista home premium, i will have to download new ones regardless right?
2) is there anything else that i should be doing?
