I've been experiencing kind of a problem with my Acer 2420 laptop. When I start up its usually pretty fast, but eventually it begins to slow down to the point where I have to restart the system completely. I have it running Windows Vista Home Edition at 512MB of ram, 1.5Ghz.
Its really weird because sometimes when I unplug the charger it works again but after I plug it back in, like 10 minutes later it starts slowing down again. I can't figure it out.
I updated bios on Acer Aspire E1-510 to 2.11v(legacy BIOS available) so I can install Windows 7.
I successfully installed Windows 7 but when I switch on the notebook monitor starts to blink,it is not happened before untl
I updated the BIOS and installed Windows 7.I returned to Windows 8 but again the same happens.(only when system booting up)I dont like that and i wanna fix that!
My 8510W won't start. It starts over and over and I cannot start it in Safe Mode. Â I think my harddrive is dead. Am I right? Â It is a 500Gb WD Scorpio Blue. Can I replace it with a 1TB disk?
I bought a used Acer TravelMate 2420 laptop (WinXP, RAM 1 GM, hard disk 40 GB, Intel Celeron M processor 1,50 GHZ) and since the beginning it had overheating problems and also some issues with power management. And yes, I know it was a stupid thing to buy it, but knowing it doesn't help.
Now the problems: 1. Whatever I do, it keeps overheating, even if no programs are opened. The laptop's fan works very vaguely, and I can hardly hear any sound of it. At first it didn't trouble me much, as it was winter and it would still work, although heated up. I also bought an USB ventilation pad (2 fans), and it helped for some time. But now, when the air temperature is over 30 degrees (in the room), the laptop just "freezes" in the middle of work and stays like this for about 20 min, or just suddenly shuts down completely.
2. I can't turn it off if the power supply is on - I have to unplug it just before the computer shuts down, otherwise it keeps on restarting. Also I can't use it without a battery, as it doesn't turn off in any way (even pressing the power button for a long time doesn't help), and I have to unplug power supply (which ain't no good for computer).
What I already tried to do: 1. Re-installed Windows, installed updates.
2. Checked the computer with various antivirus and antimalware programs (Avira, AVG-free, Malwarebytes' Anti-malware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware).
3. Installed additional Acer utilities: Acer emPowering Framework, Acer ePerformance Management, Acer ePower Management - but they basically didn't let me change anything important (like the fan speed, for example). With PowerManager I changed the CPU speed to Medium, well, it helped a little bit, but the comp. is totally slow now (and still overheats) ... if I set the speed to High, it just turns off after about 10 minutes.
4. Instaled SpeedFan to speed up the fan - but it didn't detect any fan in the computer!
5. Dismantled the laptop (removed the hard disk, the keyboard) to see if the fan isn't clogged, but I still couldn't reach it. So I just used a vacuum-cleaner as much as I could reach, but of course it didn't change anything.
6. Oh and of course I disabled all the unnecessary programmes (by modifying msconfig -> startup).
7. Ran HDD diagnostics, S.M.A.R.T. report showed no problems.
I've read quite a lot now about these laptops, and seems like they all have this overheating problem, but it's usually solved by using a ventilating pad (which helped in my case a bit, but basically didn't solve the problem). I didn't found anybody having these power problems, so I guess maybe a previous user made some stupid modifications... I just don't know how to fix them now.
My daughter bought an Acer Travelmate 2420 (2428a) 2 years ago. Within a year we had to return it, due to heat problems. (It kept shutting down) The vendor told us that they had to clean the fan and the cooler... Now, a year later the problem is back... A strange thing is that the fan doesnt speed up at all.. it has never done it in fact,(It allways runs quiet) no matter how warm the notebook get... It just shuts down and we have to wait 10-15 mn before we can reboot the notebook... I installed SpeedFan, just to see if I could adjust the fan, but it just doesnt appear... I can read the temperature (71 on start, thats a lot for a Centrino...) the speed and the CPU charge... And thats it.The bios is up to date (Ver. 1.06)
One thing I hate about PCs and laptops is that they inevitably slow down, which is somewhat understandable as OS and software demands increase year on year. However, my fear is that my Acer 6930G is slowing down on me only after a month of use! I can see the beginnings of it struggling to do what used to be simple tasks.
For example, streaming HD videos on the net (youtube HD, GameTrailers HD) was a cake walk during the first few weeks of use. Now it struggles and stutters when trying to stream sub-HD content. Opening the task manager shows that its maxing out both cores of my CPU when viewing these videos. This is abnormal. And from time to time the system will fail to respond for 30 seconds or so.
I'm not too happy as I've only recently purchased the laptop. There are probably many reasons why, but I'm not sure where to begin. Anyone be able to lend me some insight at why my laptop is behaving like this all of a sudden?
I have a Acer TravelMate 2420 that my sister gave me last year. I formatted the HD and wiped out the partition section on the HD. I found all the drivers that I needed except my wireless doesnt work. I have downloaded every different wireless driver from the acer site and nothing works. OH, my sister lost the Recovery Disc for this computer as well. When i go to my device manager, there is yellow "?" beside the following"
Other devices: ------------- Network Controller? ------------- PCI Modem?
I have a Acer Travelmate 2420 that needs a new LCD back cover... The hinges were/are overly tight and over time the back cover has cracked and now it is to the point where replacement part is necessary..

although i am due for a notebook upgrade..i would like to repair this one for a spare home user for my wife or children
I have an Acer travelmate 2420, that I want to factory format but I can't get the back up cd's that I made to work and the Empowerment technology is no longer on the pc how can I factory format now?
I have, a.o., a TravelMate2420. Can I let it boot up and/or close down on specific times? It's one of my Acers, the oldest, and I want to use it for monitoring my sunpanels.
That program will start up after boot and close down while closing down the system. The program uses COMports and for datasavings harddiskspace AND a part of the machines memory, so it has to shut down regularly before the machines' memo is full. And then start up clean and so on. Aprox a week of data will do, so a weekly restart of the system would be needed.
If timer doesn't work I can use the local network option. But how?
ACER Travelmate 2420 fails to see operating system and will not restore from disc.
My Acer Travelmate 2420 now fails to see the operating system. When I use the restore DVD that I had made it boots up and after a while the recovery runs. I hit a problem when the machine asks for disc 2 to continue the recovery. Only one disc was ever made during the back up session.
A few facts.
Before the OS failed Acer Recovery and other Acer Programs had started to not function.
The C: and D: drives where NTFS Formatted.
I have even considered cleaning the hard drive altogether and installing a new OS. The problem here is that I can't get into DOS Mode.
The CPU fan is totally off when the CPU temp is under 55°C (according to Everest). Once it's over 55°C, it goes onto its low setting. Somewhere higher up, it goes to its high setting.
The problem: Even just browsing the web and doing light desktop work (IM, Explorer, Word), the CPU temp creeps up to 55°C pretty easily. Once it does, the fan shoots on, but it only takes about 3 seconds to get to below 55°C, so it shuts off again. Without the fan, the temp goes up past 55°C again, and the cycle restarts.
The result is an on-off-on-off-on-off fan that turns on or stays off for only about 2-5 seconds at a time. REALLY annoying, esspecially in an otherwise quiet library environment. I can see people looking over at me with a "what the f is wrong with your computer" look.
I've updated the BIOS to its latest as of this date (Jan 06 2009) on the Acer site (3810), that didn't help any.
I've read (on this site) that Acer uses something propertiary to control their fan, causing normal fan control software to not work on Acer's.
Does anybody know of any software that will let me control the speed of the fan? I tried the fan control software for the Acer Aspire One, which didn't seem to work.
I have an Acer 1350, when I press the power button the CPU fan comes on for five seconds or so, but the screen doesn't come on, and the hard drive doesn't seek. If I leave it on, after a few minutes the CPU fan comes on again, so obviously part of it is working, but it just won't boot up.
The screen is definitely working fine because I've tested it on another Acer 1350, the hard drive is fine as well, also tested on another Acer 1350, the memory is fine, ditto.
I have a problem with my Acer V5-573, 6 months old. Â Some days ago it did not start when pressing the start button. I removed the charger and tried again, still nothing. Then i removed the backside to get access to the battery. I removed the battery and tried connecting just the charger. Â That causes the laptop to start for 2 seconds like normally, the fans start for like 1 second and then just shuts down and the start button wont work again. This happens every time I connect the charger and it's off battery. Â Sometimes when I press the start button and works and starts like it should and then at a random time it shuts down once again. Mostly it just doesnt react to the start button. Â I haven't replaced or modified the original hardware.

My computer (acer P653-V) is starting itself after shutting it down. Not right away - it takes some random time - sometime hours. In BIOS WAKE ON LAN is disabled. OS is windows 7 and at network adapter configuration - wake on magic packet and all of that is disabled. Â Don't understand how is it possible? It is getting little bit creepy and disruptive already.
I have a two year old V5 571, a week ago it stopped booting up when I pressed the power button. There are no beeps and the laptop doesn't boot as far as the POST screen.
I've tried with battery and without and taken out the CMOS battery to reset it but still have the same problem.   As it's only two years old I would hope the motherboard hasn't gone.
When I start it everything is fine. You see the Acer logo. Ubuntu starts with a BIOS BUG #81[49435000]. Then when the Ubuntu load screen just freezes. When I reboot it the screen is dead. But after a cold start it's fine.
I don't think it's because of the bug, I've read it's because I have a 32-bit linux on a 64-bit. When I try to install XP it works for a while but then the screen just dies.
I just play a few games here and there and I am seeing my system slow WAY down when even just doing light gaming. Is anyone else having these issues? I have the NVS 160 and the T9600 and even playing games like Command and Conquer Generals Zero hour which is a game that is several years old, I have to play it at 1024*768 with details turn down to min just to get the game not to spit and get jumpy. Its like it freezes every 2 seconds for a half sec or so..
I have speedfan monitoring temps for CPU and GPU and both are well within normal ranges, infact the fan is not even turning much past 4000 RPM and GPU getting no hotter then 64C at MAX..
Any ideas or experiences would be greatly appreciated. I just feel that the NVS 160 should be able to play a 3 year old game MUCH better then it is...
My brother has gotten a new laptop a few months ago: HP Pavilion DV7-1245DX. Since that time it has been slowing down every day.
At this time, it takes it ~4 min. to open the internet explorer 8, and previewing photos on it is just a pain in the neck. I can't figure out what is going on. The laptop has come originally with the Windows Vista 64-bit operating system. I have reinstalled all the drivers, specifically for the 64-bit version, reflashed the BIOS, defragmented the registry, defragmented the hard drive, checked for viruses, malware, trojans etc.
I have a 2.66 MacBook Pro that seems to be slowing down.I clear history and cache but that is all that I know to do.I know windows but not Mac,This computer doesn't have anything much on it and it doesn't get used much.
My Acer Aspire 5745g (intel i5, nvidia GT 330m, 4gb Ram) suddenly start lagging...Some Games I play (Vindictus , Dead Space 3 , Far Cry 3 ,...)
I try to bring down quality but fps doesn't fix. I download Anti-malware (don't work). I scan with antivirus (don't work). I do twice format but the problem doesn't fix.
I recently bought a 1tb external HD, formatted it to NTFS, and have noticed that any time I copy files to or from the external HD I only get speeds of about 45mbps using an express card and an eSata cable. I have also noticed that my whole system slows down dramatically. As soon as the files are copied, my m1530 is back to full speed.
We have purchased dell vostro 2420 laptops bundled with ubunto. We dont have official windows 7 OS to install on it but we have windows xp with SP3 official copy but dell doesnot support or provide the drivers for windows xp. How to find the drivers for windows xp.
