my housemate is having problems with his Acer Aspire 5600.
Basically pretty much 2 out of 3 times you turn it on it will load in to windows and then just freeze. No touchpad input, no keyboard input, you cant use the power button either, you have to take the battery out to stop it.
I tried a USB mouse, no input from that either.
I formatted the whole machine and reinstalled everything, incase it was some sort of malware, still no joy.
One solution I read was to make sure all the battery settings were set to Never, as it can sometimes be known to put itself to sleep at stupid times... would make some sense for the symptoms, but I've done that and still no joy.
The machine runs fine EVERY time if you run it in Safe Mode... which doubly confuses me...
Another solution I have read is to switch the unit down to Word Processing Power on the acer control panel.
I havent actually installed the acer control panel, since I dont really like having third party software like that on there... but I should probably give it a go. Still, does it really HAVE to work on Word Processing power? That would be.... lame...
The notebook is running Windows XP Business 32-bit.
It really annoys me that my new laptop, (Just a week old) when turned on takes a very long time before it starts. After the HP logo, it will show a blank page where my cursor can be moved, then it will stay a very a long time so I end up shutting it down then turning on again and again until it finally starts up. This really takes a lot of my time specially I use my laptop for work.
Pushing the start button, the LED-Lights blink for a short time (1second)....., thats all. However, once in a week or in a month, the laptop starts and runs without problems. What can I do ??
Running Windows 8.1 for some time, but latest updates (8/13/14) Â cause the problem. Restore point and shutting down updates allows use, but it's a short term fix.Which update causes the paroblem?Â
I am going to be doing a fresh install of XP on this machine.
I have downloaded all the drivers for the laptop that I think I need. I only have two questions:
1) The VGA_ATI.zip file, that will install the Catalyst Control Center and everything, right?
2) How do I install the LAN driver? I have the LanRTL.zip file downloaded, however in the folder there is no Setup.exe file. Just 3 .sys data files and a system info file. No executables at all.
Before I go ahead and do the format tomorrow morning, I'd like to get these questions answered. My internet on this computer is connected through Ethernet, so I kinda need to make sure the LAN is working.
Here is the rest of the files I have downloaded, am I missing anything? . 802ABG . ATI . Audio . CardRdr . CCD . Chipset . ePM (the only one of the Empowerment Technology apps I may install) . LanRTL . Touchpad
I was given a broken 5600 - if I could fix it, it was mine. I fixed the electrical fault, but also foolishly deleted the hidden partition 1, which apparently held the restore image. The donor doesn't have the recovery CD, and I now need to do a full recovery. The drivers on the Acer site don't quite do the trick, and there's nothing I can find on the site to buy a new recovery disk.
I have a monitor backlight failure on my Acer 5601WLMI / 5600 series. How do I find a replacement backlight? Are there any instructions on how I would be able to replace it?
I'm a laptop newb, and I've already tried to do a search on this forum and I haven't found any threads for this specific Acer monitor,
This afternoon my Acer Aspire 5600's 100GB ATA/IDE drive died on me (lots of clicking/grinding sounds, nonstop disk read errors). I was looking around for a replacement but all I can find in stores are SATA drives. Can I find a reliable IDE drive somewhere for cheap? Would it be worth putting in a solid state drive (if one can be found for $100 or less)?
I'm looking at the motherboard on my Aspire 5601AWLMi (mobo id "31zb2mb0091" ) and I see there's four places where can insert cards. Two are the RAM chips, those are labeled DDR RVS 1.8V with "tyco" written on the other side of the plastic bracket, there's wireless card slot not really labeled with anything conclusive over near the Lan and Phone port, and then there's another slot labeled "0624n3" on the left side of the plastic bracket and "-+AMP" on the other side of it. I have absolutely NO idea what that last slot is for, and I'd like to know, if anyone can figure it out.
To describe it, pin wise starting from the left it has 1 pin, a divider, then 61 pins in a row. I think it's 61. I'm not willing to recount :P It's physically shorter than a ram chip, but not by much more than 3/4cm is my guess.
You can see the slot itself in this picture: [rl] The slot is sitting just above that big red..knob..thing.
Also, I found this page, but it didn't tell me anything useful, I think. The mobo is flipped over in the diagrams.. [url]
My laptop is aspire 5601AWLMi. Just opened to upgrade the memory and came across this slot. Its 60mm wide or around 2.5'' length and is slightly smaller than the memory slot.
I was install new windows 7 x64, i have turn on AHCI, then when installation was finish and reboot windows start and freez, i only see black screen and white curosr.
When i turn off ahci i was fine, but i need ahci to turbo memory.
yesterday my SSD took a dump and replaced it with my stock HDD (160GB). My boot time with the SSD was 21 seconds. I did not install EFI 1.7. Now, with the 160GB, the boot time is 1:10. Is that normal? What can I do to make it faster?
who came across with slow start up and sleep issues in windows 8.1. ( Dell Inspiron 15-3537).I recently upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1. After installing all the drivers found that fast start up not working and laptop does not awake from "sleep" state.
Actually reinstalling the Intel Video driver solved the problem. When I was going to install video driver, it was said that a newer version is already installed. However neglected that and downgraded the video driver. that 8.1 is faster than 8.you install the latest driver given in dell website.
I got the blue of death in VMware fusion with windows vista ultimate,I think "Defender" did it, every time I go to the vmware to start windows the blue screen shows up, anyway around this ? I can't do any safe modes or last good configs.
Looking for a Boot Disk or Start up disk for an Aspire 4720Z or a place to download one. She has been doing finals etc for the past week without it at college.
I have 6930g when im playing games on battery power i have no problems but if i connect my power supply it freezes within 3 minits. so now i have charge my notebook before playing
The USB ports on my 8735G are messed. Everything with my system is fine until I plug something into the USB. After about 30 seconds, the whole computer freezes without any hope of recovery. Only a hard restart fixes it. This happens with mice, USB drives, UDB keys, anything. I tried disabling the power management on USB (selective suspend) and it doesn't help. I've googled the crap outta this and I've tried all the possible fixes and solutions and suggestions I've found. I know the ports or hub are not defective as they will transfer data in small amounts before freezing. However, it will freeze right away (before 30 seconds) if I attempt to transfer anything bigger than 300 MB.
Dell announced, a few weeks ago, a new replacement for the 57XX and 55XX Mobile Broadband MiniPCIe cards that they are installing as integrated WWAN in select notebooks.
The new Dell Wireless 5600 Mobile Broadband card is based on the Qualcomm Gobi chipset, and therefore supports all major NA carriers (CDMA and GSM/HSPA), and all global UMTS/HSPA bands.
As a result, you can theoretically use this one integrated device on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, O2, Telus, Rogers, Fido, T-Mobile, or any other EVDO or HSPA service globally, just by activating with the provider (CDMA/EVDO) or using the providers SIM card (GSM/HSPA).
I want to overclock my processor P8400, but there are no program that's work with this processor....I use setFSB and ClockGen but this freeze my laptop.....
I have a random ( to me atleast) with my Acer Aspire 5020. Sometimes it just randomly freezes, and not inside windows or bluescreen or anything like that, the screen goes black or turns off and the whole computer freezes with all the lights on for the power, the battery, the poweradapter if in and also the statusindicator light.
First time it happened out of the blue for like 3 weeks ago, and it scared me, manly becasue i though I would everything on it. After that it happens more often, more randomly, sometimes nothing for a few days, and then a couple of times a day.
When it freezes, i can't even reboot the the only way then is to unplug it and also remove the battery to be able to restart.
At first i though it was something with the power or something like that, so i tried just with the battery on, and it happened again. Then the reverse, took out the battery and power only with the adapter and it happened again. So i don't know whats wrong with it.
The weird thing is that sometimes when it freezes, if i randomly touch or pres on certain parts of the computer, it shuts of or reboots it self, which makes me wonder if it might be a hardware problem. Maybe something is glitching or what ever.
Also i though that it might have something to do with heating, but since sometimes it happens just minutes after I turn on the computer, i have somehow ruled that one out.
My HDD random freeze once in awhile, sometimes for 30second, sometimes even worst, more then 5minute, i wonder why? i already install the latest Intel® Matrix Storage Manager, but the problem seems won't out from my laptop. Is it my HDD problem? any 6920G's user facing the same problem?
My Timeline 4810TZ comes with SU4100 1.3Ghz, 3GB DDR3 RAM, Samsung 400GB HDD. I installed Win 7 32 bit. I'm getting random freeze during normal usage such as browsing, file copying etc. I have tried running Prime95(3 tests), OCCT and Linpack, Memtest86+(DOS) and Windows memory diagnostics. No problem were detected. I reinstalled OS with Win 7 64 bit and still facing the same problem. Occasionaly there will be BSODs. I have installed the latest BIOS with all the latest drivers available.
Is there compatibility problem with Win 7 OS or there is hardware problem with my Timeline?
When ever i used my Acer 5315 for about 5 mins of switching on it would become very slow freze and turn off.
So i did not no what to do. I was told to restore it to factory setings. So i used the big green E button at the top right to get that green toolbar thing up. Went on recovery i think, restore and set to factory setings. I think it then turned itself off and when i turned it on it went on to e recovery. But a bit into i went to put my laptop down and the battery fel out lol. And now when i turn it on all you get is the acer page then a black screen with a white flashing line at the top left.
My laptop unfortunately had begun to lock up and freeze requiring me to shut it off.
They claimed it was not under warrantly despite me including in the packaging a copy of the receipt and also emailing them a further copy.
It came back last Friday supposedly "tested". However the centre speaker no longer works and the 2 front speakers sound quality is not what it should be or has been. When I play a DVD or BD there is no voice at all. And when I check the configuration of the speakers there is no sound coming from the centre speaker despite it being on maximum.
I've tried doing another factory restore, removing the old nvidia and realtek hd audio drivers, still no sound from the centre speaker and reduced quality from the 2 front speakers so I've had to raise another call.
If it does not come back 100% tested I am going to press for a replacement/refund.
I bought two of these laptops (Acer E5-471P CI3 4GB 500GB 14 Inch Touch Laptop - Black. - [URL] .... as Christmas presents.  Both are having issues with the trackpad where it will randomly freeze or the pointer will disappear. At first my mother thought it was just being slow and freezing all the time. I had a look and found that the touch screen worked fine when the mouse froze or disappeared. Now, immediately I assumed it to be a driver issue, so I updated the trackpad driver.  I can't find any info on this and even though I bought the week before christmas ACER are saying my warrenty has run out and I don't have the time to find a scanner to scan my receipt. I am a day or two away from returning this laptop if no solution can be found.  This freezing happens ALOT, to the point my mother is using the 4 year old dusty laptop with missing keys. I assume it's something to do with the touchscreen and the trackpad interfering with one another.
I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook SNID 20206697434 with Windows 7. I bought the recovery disks because eRecovery stalls at Office 2010 but the disks do exactly the same thing - I can only open in Safe Mode. I've tried many times with the same result. Even though I bought the disks, Acer Customer Service won't let me talk to a tech because my net book is not unwarranty - mfg date is 1/14/2012.
Got a new E5-571P-55TL yesterday and going through the setup process I got all the way to where it says downloading apps. It displayed a message that it was processing or I forget what it said exactly. Then the words went away after about an hour. I remember reading that it said it may do this, may have a blank screen and not to turn it off. I left it on all night and still have just a green screen this morning. I know my wifi is not the fastest and figured that's what it was. Came to work today and left it sitting on the counter, still on.
