I got my system over weekend with following config
P8600
2GB DDR2
160GB
FullHD
Vista 64bit premium
I'm planning to upgrade RAM and I'm thinking if it is worth upgrading to DDR3 instead of DDR2 4GB. Price difference between two seems to be like $20-$30.

I did some research on the Dell M4400 I ordered a few days ago. I got the minimum amount of Dell memory they would sell me of 1GB. I did the same with the hard drive (80GB/5400RPM) knowing I could get it a lot cheaper on my own.
Hard Drive
I've found a hard drive (Fujitsu MHZ2320BJ-G2 320GB 7200 RPM 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive - OEM) and a laptop drive comparison/ review in Laptop Magazine. Here is the hard drive listed above @ $69.00 for 320GB/7200RPM. [url]. I'll try it however I have been a WD guy for my desktop.
Memory
I have been pricing DDR2 and DDR3 and found other posts saying DDR3 wasn't worth it and will not work on this forum at this thread HERE and will not work in the M4400 however this review says it will HERE
The memory I found HERE is priced @ $57.99 Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model CT2KIT25664BC1067 - Retail
Quote:
"As a matter of fact the Montevina platform would in general also support DDR3 RAM modules. According to Dell, the standard equipment does not include DDR3 modules, because they still cost much and the availability is still limited while the performance gain of the new chips is rather small. But, they do not exclude that they will offer them later."

I have Acer Travelmate 7520G (Turion TL-58) and upgraded from 2G of 667Mhz RAM to 4G of 800Mhz, however the memory is still running at 667Mhz and FSB:RAM being CPU/6. Chipset here is Ati RS690 and according to Everest it supports 800Mhz DDR2. There is no option in bios to change the RAM frequency or divider.. I have tried updating the bios with no luck.

I see that thread BIOS Update V1.24: 4GB RAM in 9410? was already locked (yes, I missed it by more than a year).
I'm guessing there are still users out there using their Acer Aspire 9410 laptops.
I recently purchased two 2GB DDR2 modules. They both work fine individually and I've tested using memtest86+. When I plug both modules in, the BIOS only sees 3067MB. The Phoenix BIOS in my Acer Aspire 9410-4933 is version 1.24. I would expect that the BIOS sees all 4GB.
Is there any Phoenix BIOS newer than 1.24 that I can use for my Acer Aspire 9410-4933?
I've read that there may be hidden BIOS settings and I'm wondering if anybody can point me to a URL that describes how to un-hide those settings?
Lastly: according to the aforementioned locked thread, the BIOS is the one limiting how much memory is addressable. Is there any way to hack around that?

On the spec, my current 4736Z system is running with Intel T4400 (2.2GHz, 1MB Cache, 800MHz FSB), 2GB DDR3 RAM with genuine Window 7 Home Premium 64bit installed.
As to my understandng, the new Window 7 can address more than 4GB RAM from previous 32bit Window OS.
The question that I don't understand is why can't I upgrade the 4736Z notebook RAM more than 4GB, said with the market offering of 4GB x 2 DDR3 RAM giving me the 8GB instead?
My reason being the Window 7 was installed and the system supports DDR3 also.

I am going to be getting a refurb uMBP towards the end of the week and I am trying to decide between the 256mb and the 512mb versions of the 9600M. I will be using it mostly for surfing, blogging, programming, photoshop and gaming. Obviously the gaming is what really poses the question.
I plan to play things like WoW, Aion, L4D2, Borderlands, CoD:MW2, Batman Arkham Asylum, and the like. Obviously this will be done in windows via boot camp.
Is the 512mb absolutely necessary to play these games with decent settings or will I be fine with the 256mb as long as I have the discrete gfx (i.e. I know I wouldn't be able to play most of these on the 13" uMBP which is why I am already in the 15" category).

When will the Dell m1530 have a 9600 card instead of the 8600? I heard the 9600 will slightly outperform, as well as have better power consumption (less heat and noise is a nice bonus for me)
Also, is the hard-drive noise really that bad? Hard drive noises can sometimes drive me nuts. I'm using a HP laptop, and I dread it when the HD is constantly blurting out "brrr brr brr brrrrrrrr" noises. I get so happy when the laptop isn't making that sound while surfing the interbutts and stuff.

I was wondering if it would be possible to install the drivers for the 9600 GT drivers on the FX 770M. If i'm correct the card is based on the same chip and i was curious if i'd be able to get a better game performance using those drivers.
Are there any real risks in installing the 9600 drivers?

So Photoshop CS 4 is giving me corrupt graphics. It's very random, I've only come across it a couple of times.
Here's the picture: Click! (1Mb png)
Does this mean that my 9600 is faulty, since CS 4 is using my GPU?
(the only reason I linked the picture is because it's 1680x1050 and 1MB, and I didn't want to stretch the page)

I just checked newegg and it looks like you can get 2gb (2x1gb) for like $55? This would be for my 9300. When did prices dip this low? How much longer do you think it will last (will they rise back up?)

I found a nice deal over Dell.com for this memory - yes, I know it's crazy but that was the cheapest place I found, they offered 15% off + FREE Next Business Day @ DHL, which sounds pretty good for me.
I'm going from 2x1GB DDR2 533Mhz to a 2x2GB OCZ DDR2 800Mhz@667Mhz with lifetime warranty for as low as $44 each module. I think will be great upgrade since my 2GB always wasn't enough!

there seems to be a consensus that hdx16 is ddr2, but some people seem to be saying hdx18 is gddr3? this doesn't seem to make financial sense from hp's side, but it would be a factor in deciding between the two if it were true.

what advantages would I have going with the Dell Studio XPS16 with DDR3 ram over an HP with DDR2 ram? I have read a bunch of very technical stuff on here which unfortunately I don't really understand.
I plan on having this computer for about 4 years hopefully. If I get DDR2 will it be outdated in the very near future? Will I benefit myself by getting the DDR3?

I got a macbook pro and I asked them to give me an upgrade for a 4GB instead of the standard 2GB DDR3. I returned the notebook but they had a policy that I should keep the 2GB DDR3 I asked them to install. This costs about GBP 80. So I ended up with 2GB DDR3 that I paid for the GBP 80. I checked online and I could find them for a much cheaper price. Why then apple has it with this price? Are they any different? Is the GBP 80 the price for the 2GB DDR3 only or inclusive the price difference between 2x1GB and 2GB one chip DDR3. Because in the process I guess they had to take out the 2x1GB chips and insert 2x2GB chips to fill up the two internal memory slots. I asked them but they told me that it is the cost of just the 1x2GB DDR3 increase that I ordered?

I have an Aluminium Unibody Macbook, and was wondering about this 4GB DDR3 SO-DIMM available from Amazon.com, for around US$150. Its available via International Shipping (through one of the vendors), thats why I'm interested in it, as here in Australia we're receiving replies saying that 4GB DDR2 SO-DIMMs do not exist, let alone DDR3 Notebook RAM.
Has anyone had experience with Buffalo RAM? It is 1333MHz, I plan to get 1x 4GB Stick, (was hoping for 2, but it seems like only 6GB is supported anyway).
The Link to the Amazon Product is here,
