I bought my daughter an ACER ASPIRE E11 for Christmas. Before New Year's day I was on line with Tech Support because it was not powering up (no lights, nothing). Support had me press and hold the reset button on the bottom, and it worked. He said something about static build up , which made no sense to me. But he said it shouldn't be a problem again...but last night it did it again. I pressed the reset and that resolved it.
My questions are---"Is this going to be a continual problem? Is it something that I should send back to Acer to get fixed? Or is it something in the way we are handling it??"
Recently, out of nowhere the computer is not powering up. I plug the power cable in (without the battery) and the caps lock key's light lights up but nothing else happens.
Once I place the battery into the laptop with the power cable, the third light on the front of the laptop (below the touchpad) lights up in this sequence and keeps repeating itself:
Amber/red Amber/red Amber/red Amber/red White
Then repeats from beginning.
I have tried the usual, power discharge by making sure all power sources are removed and holding down the power button for 60secs. Tried with known-working RAM and also with an external monitor - no luck.
There are no other POST notifications that I can see, no beeps etc. Just the lights on the front which only happens when the battery is plugged in with the power cord. I cannot find anywhere in the manual what the lights mean.
If I plug in the charger the LED light turns on with orange and if I leave it, it will eventually turn blue. Yet will still not power up. I have a new battery for it. I have tried removing battery and letting it stand then hold power button for 1 minute then plugging in but that didn't work.
I have an Acer Aspire V3-772g, a relatively new laptop (8 months old), which randomly decided to stop booting.
Windows 8.1Core i7 2.2ghznVidia GTX 760m8gig's of ram (2x4gb)7200 RPM SATA
Was playing a game just fine. Shut down as normal, went to work, came home 8 hours later, attempted to boot - nothing.
Exact problem: Hit power button, power button comes on. Light next to the lightbulb (power light?) Comes on, stays solid. Charging stays solid orange/blue.
HDD light? Flickers. Screen flickers a dark grey color that may be the very initial part of a startup. No acer logo. The screen and HDD light flicker in synchronisation, at the same exact time. You can hear the fans fire up, and the HDD spin up. Screen just flickers about once per second (it's very faint.)
--Heres what I've tried---
-Removing power cord/battery, holding button for 60 seconds 3 times, plugging back in and powering up. - Almost every varation of that, I have attempted. -Inserting a new harddrive. Same result. -Plugging in an external monitor. (Tried VGA and HDMI) - Power does not transfer to external monitors. Screen still flickers on laptop, no change in behavior. -Removed 1 stick of RAM - No **BUT** behavior changes slightly. Flickering of screen and HD light reduced to about once every 45 seconds rather than once every second. -Removed both sticks of RAM - no flickering, no HDD light flickering. Pure black screen. -Rotated the sticks of RAM - No change.
Also interestingly, with everything normal, if I hold Fn+Esc, the computer will do a new startup process (Screen still black), then after about 20 seconds goes into the normal screen flickering/HDD indicator flickering. Different behavior, slightly.
Pushing the start button, the LED-Lights blink for a short time (1second)....., thats all. However, once in a week or in a month, the laptop starts and runs without problems. What can I do ??
I bought my m1530 in march of 08 minus the dead screen upon arrival everything has been working fairly well, that is until yesterday when i went to power it on and to no avail.
Checked 2 diferent ac adaptors and tried off the battery nothing would boot the laptop. I called dell and they are going to send a new MB and have a tech call to replace the mb.
I have a new 500GB USB 2.0 2.5" drive plugged into my MacBook Pro. It powers up every so often of its own accord (and then shuts down after so many minutes non-activity). It's excluded from Time Machine backups to my Time Capsule, and excluded from Spotlight searches as well. Is there anything else I'm missing that would cause it to come out of its slumber?
The power light above the machine indicates that it is off, no sound etc. the ac adapter still runs on another machine. machine has 3 years static use.
is it an obvious mainboard failure?
can i safely buy a new mainboard?
Is it worth fixing seeing as the GFX is Nvidia 8600m and may fail anytime (although it never plays 3d games so surely should last 3 times longer than a heated one???).
should i sell the ram, graphics, processor, and laptop for spares and buy a different one to be cost effective?
What steps should i take to figure it out, fix it, else to find my sister an new one?
Model : SONY VAIO FS740/W Battery Model : VGP-BPS2A
Last night while working, my laptop suddenly turned off. Since then it is not powering. When I plug in my adapter, I get the green light on my AC adapter but no lights on laptop, no green battery charging light.
I know AC adapter is working fine (checked with different model sony vaio laptop). I know my battery performance is very poor, less than 30 minutes fully charge. I removed the battery and tried to turn on the laptop on AC but no luck
i bought a used hp nx9420 running windows7. It will only turn on when i have the power source plugged in and not when running just on the battery. How do I turn on the laptop?
when I hit the power button, the fans kick on and a couple lights turn on, but nothing happens- the screen remains blank. I don't even see the acer splash screen like usual. Also, I'm pretty sure that the hard drive isn't spinning as well.
I know the lcd isn't dead as I tried hooking it up to an external monitor, but that didn't work.
I've had my HP dv3t since mid June 2009 and had no real problems with overheating until recently. I've noticed that the fans have been kicking in when watching videos and sometimes to the extent that it shuts off my computer instantly. I'm not sure why watching videos overheats my system. Maybe it's the specs?
I have a 5 year old vostro 1700 and happy with it because it's been good to me ever since , but yesterday, when i tried opening it, yes it's powering on but it won't boot, nothing on the screen, I've tried interchanging memory cards and hard drives and it won't open at all.i'm thinking if the motherboard is the main problem or the processor itself. but i'm not really sure about it.
I've just changed the hard drive from original to an SSD (cloned image) and changed nothing else.I've put it back together but when I press the Power button, nothing happens at all.
The battery shows fully charged, but there seems to be no power going to the system itself. When I plug in the power adapter, the light comes on for 1s then shuts off (I suspect that's just because the battery is charged) Is there a power reset somewhere if the battery has been out for a few days?
My dell inspiron 7537 is not powering up. When charger plugged in the charger led glows, but when powered on nothing happens. No display, no light, no beeps, no fan, nothing.
My Inspiron N5010 is powering on however the display is off
Previously I was running a Windows diagnostic test; however the system froze and I had to power off manually & since then I haven't been able to restart
I have a ThinkPad X130e that won't power on or charge. I have performed the unplug the power cord and remove the battery trick but still nothing happens. The thing is essentially a paperweight.
turning on then turning off? When I turn it on, the LED lights come on for seconds and then go off. I replaced the motherboard and the processor and its still the same problem. I also took out the RAM and had the same problem?
I recently did a manula reformat of my M1730 and everything works fne but having a problem with the light FX.
I set them to sapphire blue using quick tune but when ever i restart the machine or fire it up for the first time the light are different. The left speaker is orange and the right one and touch pad are crimson red.
Then has soon has it boots into windows they will go back to my setting of sapphire blue.
Do they have to be set in the bios or somewhere else in order to always have them the colour i picked even when restarting?
I replaced my Inspiron 9400 motherboard with M1710 XPS motherboard. The palmrest, lcd cover, hinge cover, front speakers,is M1710 parts. The only parts not XPS M1710 is the standard non led cpu and video fans which I borrowed from my Inspiron 9400.
The cpu and the video fan is borrowed from my I9400.Non LED.Could this be the cause?
My M1710 backcover,M1710 touchpad, and the front speakers do not light on.Eevn when the system is booting up in bios.
I already checked all connections and have the above all above
I suffer from migraine that is triggered by changes in luminosity and blinking lights.
I am now reading the review by justGoIt of the M1730 on the Dell website: it talks about "bling bling lights". (This link points to the product, then you have to click on reviews.)
anyone at all been able to light up the cover lights (just one of the colors even) for those who have done the 9400/E1705 to M1710 mods? I would really like to know how this can be done if there are some theories out there. Please refrain from saying how much you hate the lights or asking why I would care to do this :
Some methods I thought about trying: USB port: 5V ok, will that work with the cover LEDs? Fan port: I have heard this one might not work but can anyone confirm?
(I am talking about cutting off the connector that would originally go into the M1710 mobo and trying various things with the wires that happen to be color coded, 2 for each color of LED apparently.)
i recently reinstalled windows on my Dell XPS M1730 but i have some problems. For some reason the lights on the lid of the case (the ones on top lol) dont come on anymore.
To get them on i have to open dell quickset and turn them off and then on again, then they will stay on, but after shutting down and booting back up they are still off. Anyone know what the problem could be?
Also another issue im having is that when i turn on the laptop my left speaker light is orange. I changed it in quickset to be blue but still during booting its orange and then once the laptop is fully booted it turns to blue. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
I have had Sony Vaio VGN-N19VP/B for over a year now and this morning I went to open the lid and turn the laptop on and there were no lights or any response.
I took out the battery and put it back in to see if the connectors were loose but the problem remains.
I checked to see if the AC cable was working, the light was off and then I checked it with my multimeter output was 19.61v
Under the motherboard where powewr cable from AC jack is connected I have 3.98V.
On the battery output from moterboard on the 3 pin is 2.58V
