i bought a used hp nx9420 running windows7. Â It will only turn on when i have the power source plugged in and not when running just on the battery. Â How do I turn on the laptop?
View 5 RepliesI’ve been scouring the web in between work looking for a master 3870 BIOS, but haven’t been able to find one. My wife killed her HP nx9420 vid card by leaving it on the bed, suffocating the old X1600. I figured if I'm going through the time, money, and effort to replace it, I might as well upgrade to a better GPU. I verified card dimensions, part numbers, slot types, etc before purchasing the Mobility 3870 as a replacement, but the brains of the system is another issue. I may need a couple different BIOS files to attempt this since the 3870s were never a native component on any HP notebooks and I may need to compare hex values and modify some features within it to get it working.

- 8-cell high capacity Lithium-Ion (68Wh)
- 90W AC power adapter
These specs are a bit outdated for today's standards but I hope to bring out the potential that this motherboard can support............
to figure the mess that are DVD laptop model numbers? I assume from the past that the bay in my NX9420 is a 9.5mm multi-bay II, yes?
I was going to grab a UJ-852 drive as it is listed as compatible with the NW9440...and near as I recall the only difference between the two models was the graphics card options and the included warranties.
My NX9420 has been running pretty much 24/7 since I bought in in around in early 2007.
Been through three HDD upgrades and now at 500GB, 4GB RAM...still plugging along wonderfully. Until the DVD drive started popping open just because...I finally had enough, took it out, opened it up and the danged front ribbon cable was so weakened it just fell apart in the middle at the bend...soooo, no real hope of repair so I felt it best to just upgrade the drive to something newer...hence does the UJ-852 and will it fit...I truly have looked, emailed vendors and cannot seem to figure out of the drives are only for the external Multi-bay II or I can remove any attached adapter and use the old mounting bracket then slide it into the bay and be done...maybe a new drive but nothing more...
The battery is dead after 2.5 years. Charge it for a day, remove the power cord and the laptop won't start.
I don't know if I should go for a new battery or new cells?
Also, how do I open the battery the easiest way? I'd like to see if someone else have done it before I do, I guess there's a lot of glue in it that makes it difficult to open.
I bought my m1530 in march of 08 minus the dead screen upon arrival everything has been working fairly well, that is until yesterday when i went to power it on and to no avail.
Checked 2 diferent ac adaptors and tried off the battery nothing would boot the laptop. I called dell and they are going to send a new MB and have a tech call to replace the mb.
I have a new 500GB USB 2.0 2.5" drive plugged into my MacBook Pro. It powers up every so often of its own accord (and then shuts down after so many minutes non-activity). It's excluded from Time Machine backups to my Time Capsule, and excluded from Spotlight searches as well. Is there anything else I'm missing that would cause it to come out of its slumber?

Last night while working, my laptop suddenly turned off. Since then it is not powering. When I plug in my adapter, I get the green light on my AC adapter but no lights on laptop, no green battery charging light.
I know AC adapter is working fine (checked with different model sony vaio laptop). I know my battery performance is very poor, less than 30 minutes fully charge. I removed the battery and tried to turn on the laptop on AC but no luck
I bought my daughter an ACER ASPIRE E11 for Christmas. Before New Year's day I was on line with Tech Support because it was not powering up (no lights, nothing). Support had me press and hold the reset button on the bottom, and it worked. He said something about static build up , which made no sense to me. But he said it shouldn't be a problem again...but last night it did it again. I pressed the reset and that resolved it.
My questions are---"Is this going to be a continual problem? Is it something that I should send back to Acer to get fixed? Or is it something in the way we are handling it??"
I've had my HP dv3t since mid June 2009 and had no real problems with overheating until recently. I've noticed that the fans have been kicking in when watching videos and sometimes to the extent that it shuts off my computer instantly. I'm not sure why watching videos overheats my system. Maybe it's the specs?

I have a 5 year old vostro 1700 and happy with it because it's been good to me ever since  , but yesterday, when i tried opening it, yes it's powering on but it won't boot, nothing on the screen, I've tried interchanging memory cards and hard drives and it won't open at all.i'm thinking if the motherboard is the main problem or the processor itself. but i'm not really sure about it.

The battery shows fully charged, but there seems to be no power going to the system itself. When I plug in the power adapter, the light comes on for 1s then shuts off (I suspect that's just because the battery is charged) Is there a power reset somewhere if the battery has been out for a few days?
My dell inspiron 7537 is not powering up. When charger plugged in the charger led glows, but when powered on nothing happens. No display, no light, no beeps, no fan, nothing.

She is going to just be keeping the desktop in her room packed up in the box. Is it safe to do this? Will the internal battery die over those 6 weeks and not being plugged in? I just want to make sure that it's kept safely in every sense possible.

I'm having ALOT of drop-off issues from my wireless network when my system is unplugged. Sounds really odd, and my system is either set to balanced or high performance when unplugged, but there it is.
When plugged in, I have yet to notice a dropoff. So I'm assuming they are connected.
It'll typically drop for about 2-5 minutes and then reconnect.
I own a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720.
Recently, out of nowhere the computer is not powering up. I plug the power cable in (without the battery) and the caps lock key's light lights up but nothing else happens.
Once I place the battery into the laptop with the power cable, the third light on the front of the laptop (below the touchpad) lights up in this sequence and keeps repeating itself:
Amber/red
Amber/red
Amber/red
Amber/red
White
Then repeats from beginning.
I have tried the usual, power discharge by making sure all power sources are removed and holding down the power button for 60secs. Tried with known-working RAM and also with an external monitor - no luck.
There are no other POST notifications that I can see, no beeps etc. Just the lights on the front which only happens when the battery is plugged in with the power cord. I cannot find anywhere in the manual what the lights mean.
BIOS reads the battery health as "Performing normally" and the charge at 100%.
but when I unplug the computer, it doesn't go to battery power, it just shuts off. Like there isn't a battery there.
Bought the battery off ebay, it's not a genuine Dell battery, but it worked great.
I am using a HP Pavilion DV4 series laptop for the past 18 months. Till now, it has worked fine. Nowadays when i disconnect the main power adapter once the laptop battery has charged to 100%, the battery indicator shows immediately that only 72% charge available..If i plug the adapter again, it again shows that 100% fully charged..

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhenever I unplug my laptop from external power, the screen considerably dims and the taskbar turns white over it's usual blueish black. I've gone into the power settings and changed them so that brightness is 100% when unplugged, but to no avail. According to my computer it's at maximum brightness when unplugged but it's obviously not. Trying to increase the brightness by the sun key or pressing Fn up doesn't work either. Tried to go into BIOS via F2 but couldn't find a video or brightness option.

This means that when you check the power icon it always claims to be connected, even if it's not, and that the charge meter basically can't be trusted (it'll say it's fully charged when it's not). It also means that it fails to adhere to its power plans because it never goes into battery-only mode. I have this laptop now for just a few days. And when I try to turn on the laptop while unplugged the laptop freezes at the log-in screen.

My XPS 17 laptop sometimes beeps continuously with the sound of something being unplugged or plugged into the USB ports, but this happens when nothing is connected. Occasionally, a message comes up saying that USB device is not recognised - which makes least sense when nothing is plugged in. What is causing this - perhaps a setting on the computer - or perhaps a solution?

I receive no notification from Windows or anything, it just shut downs like when the battery reaches 0%.

Then in order to start it again, I need to plug it in.

I previously didn't have any battery problems and running the HP Assistant informs me that the battery is ok and it doesn't need replacements. Basically the laptop is dead at 28%-29% battery life.
