Dell XPS 17 :: Sometimes Beeps Continuously With Sound Of Something Being Unplugged Or Plugged Into USB Port

Mar 11, 2013

My XPS 17 laptop sometimes beeps continuously with the sound of something being unplugged or plugged into the USB ports, but this happens when nothing is connected.  Occasionally, a message comes up saying that USB device is not recognised - which makes least sense when nothing is plugged in. What is causing this - perhaps a setting on the computer -  or perhaps a solution?

Dell Inspiron 1545 :: Not Booting Up - Seven Beeps Continuously

Nov 16, 2014

I have a Dell Inspiron 1454 which when you press the power button it whirrs slightly (think it's the fan) before doing nothing else except having a blank screen and a white light indicating power to the laptop (solid white). My OS is Win 7 and I've had the laptop a few years now. So far I've tried the following:-

Pressing the D button while powering on to test the display - this works as I get the coloured screens so It can't be a screen fault.

Pressing the FN key whilst powering on to get the POST code - this is seven beeps continuously which seems to common and has to do with the CPU cache?

Tried the obvious removing battery, holing power button for 1 minute to discharge any residual power. Also removed the CMOS battery and put it back in again.

Also tried plugging in an external monitor but nothing showed up. Is it something to do with it being stuck in hibernation?

Dell Inspiron 1121 :: Continuously Beeps On Startup

Apr 17, 2013

When turning on the computer,  I press the start button and I get the black screen with the words "Starting Windows" in the middle of the screen. As soon as the "Starting Windows" appears, the computer begins to beep continuously with short but fast-paced beeps. The beeping continues until the colored Windows Logo appears above the white words "Starting Windows" and then the beeping stops. The computer completes its start up and seems to operate normally. I did not time the beeping but I counted about 270 beeps. None of the keyboard keys seem to be stuck. I did remove and replace the battery which seemed to fix the problem on the very next start-up but when I shut the computer down and started it up the second time the beeping problem returned.

HP Compaq Mini CQ10-500 Lockups :: Computer Continuously Beeps At Start-up But Won't Turn On

Aug 26, 2013

I was about to do a factory restore on my computer later in the day, but i was unlucky that the computer stopped working When i turn it on it continuously beeps and won`t turn on, i have picked the option to `start windows normally` and even the option that checks/diagnoses the files (to fix the problem not letting me startup) but when it says `loading files` it starts beeping again and the process stops..
I also read that it `could` be a problem with the RAM, but maybe that was for a different problem or so, but if it is a problem with the RAM, then how can i fix it?

Acer :: Aspire 6930G Unplugged Make A Faint Buzzing Sound

Aug 27, 2009

I've recently bought an Acer Aspire 6930G and am overall very pleased with it.

However, in the few weeks since i've bought it there has been one concern I have had.

Whenever the laptop is unplugged from the mains, it starts to make a faint buzzing sound. The sound seems to come from the 'tube' near the subwoofer on the back (where the power socket is on one side, and the Kensington Lock is on the other side). The buzzing also only seems to be coming from the right side of the laptop above the number pad.

What is also strange is that i am able to stop the buzzing by tipping the laptop sideways or moving the screen. This seems to indicate that something might be vibrating, but again only when the power cord is unplugged?

Like i say, i don't think its enough to take the laptop back (unless somebody tells me differently), but i am concerned enough to ask on here if anyone with the same or similar laptop has any ideas as to why this might be happening.

Dell Inspiron 5520 :: Clicking Sound Coming Continuously

Feb 10, 2013

Just recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 5520 laptop with Intel Core i5-3210M CPU.  Had it for about a month.

A couple weeks ago, I noticed an annoying clicking sound coming from underneath the laptop.  It seems to be coming from the center of the laptop.  They occur continuously no matter what I'm doing on the laptop, but their frequency is random.  It will click once and then wait a few seconds til the next click sometimes or click twice back-to-back and wait a few seconds, etc.  No pattern as far as I can tell.

I did the Dell Hardware test, and it reported on faults...

The clicking sound is not super loud or anything.  I can't even hear it if the TV is on, but it gets super annoying after listening to it when the room is quiet.

This is my first Dell laptop, but I can't imagine this is normal.  I have had a Compaq and a Toshiba and other than the fan, you can really hear anything out of them...

Dell Precision M6800 :: Does Not Starts When Plugged On Port Replicator

May 19, 2014

I receive there is 1 weeks ago a M6800 laptop with his port replicator. When the laptop is plugged to the port replicator and I press the power button (on the laptop or on the port replicator) the laptop starts but it is frozen immediatly and the big "DELL" logo is displayed. I do not see Windows starts screen and I can not enter in the BIOS.

If I unplugged the laptop from the replicator station, it starts immediately and it is work.
If I plug the power charge on the laptop it starts immediately and it is work.

I plug the laptop to the port replicator, I starts it, the starts process is frozen of course at the "DELL" logo. After that I unplugged the laptop (I do not shutdown it, so the laptop is still on), the laptop continue to starts until Windows. After that I plug the laptop to the port replicator and it is work...

So I think the problem come with the port replicator detection at the BIOS level...

Dell Studio 1557 :: Won't Power On - No Beeps / Lights Or Sound

Apr 5, 2013

My studio 1557 recently had a motherboard failure of some type.  When I would plug in the power cord, the blue light on the cord would go off.   I noticed this after I was reading online and the laptop suddenly, without warning shut down and would not turn back on.

A Google search suggest that this came from a motherboard failure.  I replaced the motherboard.

Now, when I plug in the power cord, the blue light stays on and it is charging the battery.  The small white light above the power cord plug-in stays white while the battery is charging.   But, when pressing the power button, nothing happens.  The white charging indicator and the blue light on the power cord stay illuminated, but the laptop will do nothing else.  No beeps, no lights, no sounds.

I assume the power button has failed.  Am I assuming correctly, or is there anything else I need to check?

HP Pavilion Dv5 Audio :: Headphones Plugged In But Speakers Are Still Playing Sound

Jun 21, 2011

Also, this solution doesn't work:"All u need to do, is right click Communication headphones, and click Disable.right click Sound button on taskbar>  playback devices now you have speakers and headphones selected as default device, and communication headphones seleted as default communication device."The communication headphones have been disabled, but the speakers still play alongside the headphones.
I think part of the problem is that the playback device is "Speakers and headphones", but I can't split this into two separate devices for the life of me. if I disable "Speakers and Headphones" and enable "Communication headphones", the problem fixes itself and then introduces new problems: certain programs requiring sound output do not work, and the volume-changing buttons on my keyboard don't change the volume.
I have IDT High-Definition Audio CODEC (as a driver?).I can't remember what I did before this happened. I suspect it was the audio driver update, but that's a wild guess.

Dell :: XPS 16 Unstable Wireless When Unplugged

Aug 13, 2009

XPS 16, approximately 2 1/2 weeks old, using a 5100 wireless card.

I'm having ALOT of drop-off issues from my wireless network when my system is unplugged. Sounds really odd, and my system is either set to balanced or high performance when unplugged, but there it is.

When plugged in, I have yet to notice a dropoff. So I'm assuming they are connected.

It'll typically drop for about 2-5 minutes and then reconnect.

According to my computer it's at maximum brightness when unplugged but it's obviously not. Trying to increase the brightness by the sun key or pressing Fn up doesn't work either. Tried to go into BIOS via F2 but couldn't find a video or brightness option.

Dell Inspiron 17R :: Laptop Does Not Recognize When It Is Unplugged From Power

Oct 29, 2014

my Inspiron 17R no longer recognizes when it is unplugged from the AC adapter. This means that when you check the power icon it always claims to be connected, even if it's not, and that the charge meter basically can't be trusted (it'll say it's fully charged when it's not). It also means that it fails to adhere to its power plans because it never goes into battery-only mode. I have contacted my local Dell tech support, but after checking my bios and seeing that my computer recognizes the AC adapter, they didn't know what to do. how to get my laptop to properly recognize when it is and isn't plugged into the power supply?
