The battery is dead after 2.5 years. Charge it for a day, remove the power cord and the laptop won't start.
I don't know if I should go for a new battery or new cells?
Also, how do I open the battery the easiest way? I'd like to see if someone else have done it before I do, I guess there's a lot of glue in it that makes it difficult to open.
I’ve been scouring the web in between work looking for a master 3870 BIOS, but haven’t been able to find one. My wife killed her HP nx9420 vid card by leaving it on the bed, suffocating the old X1600. I figured if I'm going through the time, money, and effort to replace it, I might as well upgrade to a better GPU. I verified card dimensions, part numbers, slot types, etc before purchasing the Mobility 3870 as a replacement, but the brains of the system is another issue. I may need a couple different BIOS files to attempt this since the 3870s were never a native component on any HP notebooks and I may need to compare hex values and modify some features within it to get it working.

These specs are a bit outdated for today's standards but I hope to bring out the potential that this motherboard can support............
to figure the mess that are DVD laptop model numbers? I assume from the past that the bay in my NX9420 is a 9.5mm multi-bay II, yes?
I was going to grab a UJ-852 drive as it is listed as compatible with the NW9440...and near as I recall the only difference between the two models was the graphics card options and the included warranties.
My NX9420 has been running pretty much 24/7 since I bought in in around in early 2007.
Been through three HDD upgrades and now at 500GB, 4GB RAM...still plugging along wonderfully. Until the DVD drive started popping open just because...I finally had enough, took it out, opened it up and the danged front ribbon cable was so weakened it just fell apart in the middle at the bend...soooo, no real hope of repair so I felt it best to just upgrade the drive to something newer...hence does the UJ-852 and will it fit...I truly have looked, emailed vendors and cannot seem to figure out of the drives are only for the external Multi-bay II or I can remove any attached adapter and use the old mounting bracket then slide it into the bay and be done...maybe a new drive but nothing more...
I have a Compaq nx9600 with a dead battery. I popped it open to find sony SF US18650GR batteries all lined up in a row within.
Further research finds 3.7V 2200mAh batteries out there from 6-8 dollars and I need 12 of them... Which means that it wouldnt be cost effective for me to fix the darn things.
I did find 3.7V 2400mAh for 99 cents each and was wondering if any of you might know whether I could use these batteries with a higher milliamp?
i bought a used hp nx9420 running windows7. Â It will only turn on when i have the power source plugged in and not when running just on the battery. Â How do I turn on the laptop?

I recently got a brand new 9-cell battery for my Aspire One, and it has been great until now. I left my laptop in sleep mode with about 60% charge remaining, and in the morning my laptop would not start. When I clicked the power button the orange light just flashed. So I took it home, left it on the charger all night (had a green light), and now it won't start again. I plugged it in, and Windows and BatteryBar are both showing 0% charge remaining. If I remove the AC plug it will stay on for a couple minutes then die again. Is my battery just completely dead?

Fresh windows 7 install - Windows 7 time is correct - Shut down - Boot up - The time is the exact time I shut down.
Is there anything this could be besides a dead cmos battery? I bought my LT brand new directly from Dell about 2-3 years ago, which is a ridiculously short life for a cmos battery. I have to dismantle my LT to bits in order to replace this battery. Anyway, having the wrong time makes a mess of windows, I really need some advice here.
Can it be something other than the cmos battery and what should I do?

This is 1.5 years old Studio 1535 machine (out of warranty). When I log in now (past 1 month or so),
I get a white dialog box saying thaa my battery is able to charge normally but its nearing its end of life.
However for past 1 week or so, I see that the battery shows 0% charge and says "Not charging" even though the AC adpater is plugged in.
Laptop works fine as long as AC power is on but the moment one removes it rightway goes to sleep .....
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 which I bought in the UK new from Dell in April 2007.
The battery is a 9 Cell type (upgraded when bought).
Within the first year it got used on the battery most of the time.
After that it has been plugged in with battery (for backup incase of power outage) about 95% of the time.
Now the power only lasts a few minutes before it totally dies. It charges up to 100% and discharges normally down to roughly 85%. Then this is the strange part, it jumps all the way down to 6% charge .....
my dad gave me his old e6400 as his job paid him a brand new hp elitebook with all the bells and whistles, after checking my new toy, I found out that the battery if pretty much dead.
The bios reports that it's damaged and Ubuntu says it can only hold 25% of the original charge... And it only lasts 20 minutes .
I'm going to do a clean install of Vista soon but my battery is dead, won't even recharge, needs to be replaced.
Just wondering if I will run into any issues ?
Dell seem extortionate for an Inspiron 1520 replacement. Worth a 3rd party risk? Seen some non OEM ones on ebay with a 1 year guarantee for half the price.
Is there any way to charge my battery now? I think my battery is completely dead now. Over the past few months, it's been staying turned on for less and less time without it's chord. Today, it said "battery 100%" "6 min". Usually, I have it charging just by turning the charger chord in some weird positions. I'm not sure if it's faulty wiring or not. I would much rather just buy a new battery than deal with faulty wiring.

Yes, I have been getting the change your battery thing in the start up menu. I have an HP 625, and have had it for over 3 years now. In the past year, I've been having to adjust my wire just so it can charge. It jiggles around a little bit when inside, but the chord/plug itself doesn't seem loose or anything... Today, that didn't work at all. I've been trying for the past several hours to move my chord to the right position just so my laptop can turn on. I usually get it charging in no more than 1 minute, but today was different. Last year, I replaced my charging and it seemed to of made it much easier to charge. However, this is a fairly newish charger and it's my battery at fault this time.Â

Will my issue be resolved just by getting a new battery? I can probably head over to Best Buy or something. Or maybe buy one online.Â

I am at my wits end with my e1705. I had a sudden meltdown about 2 weeks ago... screen went scrambled, BSOD,etc...
Performed diagnostic, memory on video card came back as bad. Replaced with new card (from Dell), reinstalled OS, completely reinstalled nVidea drivers from Dell (Used driver cleaner too)...
Everything went smooth for a couple hours after this was completed yesterday (full diagnostic showed no errors), but after booting up today, after about 5 or 10 minutes of use screen freezes and turns either solid cyan or black... a small pattern of thin lines appears also.
Yesterday updated the BIOS to F.09 today the system will not boot, i get no BIOS screen, the screen just light up so i know it has power but just sits there and does nothing, no HDD access or anything.
This is now the second DV2 that i have had, looks like it might have to go back again. might swap to a DV3 this time, anyone else had issues with the DV2
I have a Hp compaq nx 9020 notebook. from the last week she is dead. The processor and ram,hdd are ok. The charching light and other lights are dead and the motherboard did not start up. Have any one a idee what can i do. I need a motherboard schematic because i have opened up the notebook and did not find any blowing pieces. I have downloaded the service manual for this model and the schematics are not in there.

View 10 Replies View RelatedThe 500GB HD in my DV7t just died. It's definitely dead, as I pulled it out and tested it in a caddy. When the computer goes to initialize the drive, it gets an error in the I/O device. I still believe I'm under my one year warranty from HP. Does it cover dead harddrives? And if so, do they require that I send in the dead drive? I work for a small business, though my boss has a rather strict data policy - all broken, dead, unused or outdated drives are to be turned into them for proper destruction prior to sale, refurbishment or replacement. Even when we send our laptops off for repairs, there are 'stock' harddrives we place in them that have never had sensitive company data on them. A bit paranoid, definitely, but it's company policy.

Now, if I order a new drive and the restore disks from HP, will that fix this issue? She is not worred about losing any data. Is my thinking correct? Install new HD, put in restore disks, start it up and follow the directions.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP dv5t which I purchased new last October. A couple of weeks ago, my HD got fried (think it overheated). HP sent me a new HD, and I had a technician install it for me. I never made recovery disks as instructed by HP (was gonna get around to it; who knew the HD would die in 9 mos?). The tech ended up installing Vista Ultimate Lite instead, which I thought was okay b/c there's no bloatware that way. However, I miss a lot of the elements of the Aero environment, particularly Windows DVD Maker.
I have two questions:
1. Can I get backup CDs from HP to reinstall Vista Home Premium (which is what my lappie was shipped with)? Would doing so reinstall the bloatware?
2. Is there a way to tweak Vista Ultimate Lite so I can have the standard GUI w/o putting bloatware back in my system? The environment in Ultimate Lite reminds me too much of XP (clunky-looking windows, fonts are too large, etc).
So my dv6000 has finally suffered the death of the wireless adapter. I suppose the motherboard is next to go. It is beyond even the extended warranty for this problem by a couple of months.
Should I try to get HP to fix it under the extended warranty, or should I just forget it?
In either case I'll never buy another HP computer again.
I was a happy DM3-1030US customer for about a month until this morning when an incredibly strange and frustrating problem has rendered the laptop useless.
Last night when I finished using the PC I left it disconnected from the charger so it naturally ran out of juice and turned itself off.
This morning I plugged it back in and slid the power switch, the fans turned on power light lit up (but not caps lock and Wi-Fi light is orange) but the screen is completely black. The fans remain spinning, computer is clearly receiving power and turned on but nothing happens at all. I've tried leaving it in that state for 30+ minutes to no avail.
I tried removing the battery for 20+ minutes then trying again to no avail. Most frightening of all I completely removed the power and turned on the PC via direct AC power with exactly the same result. This leads me to believe something has completely failed at a hardware level in this machine. Has anyone else experienced anything at all like this?
I'm very dissapointed that such an issue is occuring with a brand new machine like this. I've always thought the price I paid (around $500 from staples with multiple rebates) was too good to be true and now that appears to be the case. Unless HP is extremely graceful in their resolution of this matter I don't see myself purchasing another product from them again, which is a shame since I've purchased multiple laptops as well as my 30" monitor from them in the past. I was even considering purchasing the new Envy 14 when it's released.
I took a dead HP DV6103nr. I am trying to diagnose if its the motherboard or something else.
- The notebook is completely dead, no lights, won't power on.
- I get 18.9 volts from the end of the AC adapter power tip where it plugs in.
- I have completely disassembled the notebook. I get 18.9 volts through the USB/Power Jack board, which is separate on this notebook, all the way to the motherboard.
- When I disconnect the USB/power jack board from the MB, and plug in the AC adapter, the blue light on the USB/power jack lights. As soon as I connect it to MB, lights out.
Would this indicate replacing the MB?
I was doing absolutely nothing and suddenly my screen started acting wierd. What would cause this? I think its not about drivers cuz the same thing happens during bios start up.
