Acer Aspire E5-571 :: BIOS Update - Linux (Ubuntu)

I have an Aspire E5-571 without pre-installed OS. I don't care about Windows - I am using Linux (Ubuntu).
There are some problems reported by the Linux kernel at boot (UEFI mode) an I was hoping that a BIOS update may solve some of them (ACPI issues and unclaimed hardware). May be very well the Linux kernel but I can't exclude BIOS either.
On the Downloads page, under BIOS tab, there are four current BIOS versions with brief and strange description: versions 1.08, 1.09, 1.11 and 1.24
IF (and only if) I decide to update BIOS, which version should I use? What are the real differences between versions (Release Notes)? Except Windows 8 hacks, is there any real "improved system performance" on other OS? What is BIOS (5.2MB versions) vs. VBIOS (13MB update)?
I've installed ubuntu netbook remix, and it really works great out of the box. Didn't try 720P youtube streaming yet.
Pros I found out so far (which are relevant): - Great battery life, I had 35% left, and I still managed to get 3.5 hours out of it, including one hour streaming (reasonable quality), and half an hour playing Diablo II (game). I'm gonna give an update tomorrow! - looks are quite nice - very responsive - plays 720P and 1080P fluently - camera works - wifi works good - volume of speakers is good - can be installed from within the windows OS - pinguin
Cons - two finger scrolling doesn't work yet, only one finger (using the edge) scrolling. - keyboard layout had to be set to US - unfamiliar applications, for some windows applications you might not have a substitute, but that's a con of Linux in general... - different
When I start it everything is fine. You see the Acer logo. Ubuntu starts with a BIOS BUG #81[49435000]. Then when the Ubuntu load screen just freezes. When I reboot it the screen is dead. But after a cold start it's fine.
I don't think it's because of the bug, I've read it's because I have a 32-bit linux on a 64-bit. When I try to install XP it works for a while but then the screen just dies.
I am plannig to buy a dell XPS 16 (S541020IN8) with intel i7 processor . I want to know whether it is compatible with ubuntu. Does any one used any linux on this machine.
My cpu temps at idle according to HWMonitor are 70c for vista and in ubuntu using gkrellm they are around 60c.....why are they so hot? its on a wood surface + underclocked to 1v....
I have no issues whatsoever with this laptop, but just saw that there is a newer version of the BIOS available from Acer. Should this be updated? What precautions should I take before doing so?
I have an Aspire 7720z. As Vista was having so many glitches, I set up a dual boot system with XP and Ubuntu 8.10 on two partitions on the same drive. Last week I upgraded Ubuntu to 9.10 but started having power problems. I read somewhere that a BIOS update would help so I flashed to v1.45. Everything is now going great with my Ubuntu OS. The problem lies in Windows. When I try to boot to XP the splash screen comes up for a couple of seconds and the the computer reboots. I used a test disk to check the drive and everything is fine. I then tried to repair the XP installation with the install disk but was told that it couldn't find an XP installation. So, for the umteenth time, I tried to re-install XP but was told that the installer couldn't locate any devices to install onto. Completely bewildering as my Ubuntu installation works perfectly.
My Acer Aspire 5517 Laptop is running Windows 7 X 64 with an AMD Athlon TF-20 Processor at 1.6Ghz with 2GB of physical memory. Every once in a while, and lately quit frequently, my screen goes black, and it will not boot...I have attached an exterior Monitor to it, with no success, so I assume it is not the video portion. To get it to boot I turn it off and on until it re-boots. Sometimes it reboots quickly and at other times it takes several minutes...up to 20 or 30 sometimes. I have run a disc check to see if all the sectors are good on the hard drive. It checks out okay..I thought if the BIOS was out of date, I would update it, to see if that work....

It has vista home premium preinstalled. Lately I installed Xp on it (Ive done it many times before because its faster) The only thing is that with Xp it shutsdown after some time, 'cuase of the heat. So I thought I'll update the BIOS. It went well but then IT shutsdown! I was afraid of this but it happened. Now my Lap won't boot, nothing comes up, not even a sound! The only thing that work is the dvd driver. The fan goes like it would boot but nothing. I tried to flash it via usb but didn't read the usb.
I attempted to update the BIOS in my Acer Aspire 5315 laptop to no avail, the winbios program froze straight away, while erasing the BIOS I think. So since then I havn't been able to start the laptop, no fans, but does blink a red LED beside the little light icon when left for longer than 10 seconds or so when you press the power button. I've tried the fn+esc method to boot it to flash the bios but nothing at all, tried it with USB and CD-ROM. I've tried removing all the hardware and starting it, I've also tried resetting the CMOS, still no luck.
I'm thinking that the red LED might be a little indicator of hope, or is it maybe the capacitor filling up
I updated my Acer Aspire 4752g's BIOS to use the BIOS_Acer_2.10_Windows.zip in the BIOS downloads in the Acer site and when my laptop rebooted it was stuck in a black screen. I've tried doing the FN+ESC and tried all the BIOS downloads in the Acer site but it still did not work.
I own an Aspire V3-571G Notebook with ArchLinux dual-booting Win8.1. When I'm starting Arch I get this (Ivybridge-/Sandybridge -related) error:
"[drm:cpt_serr_int_handler] *ERROR* PCH transcoder A FIFO underrun"
After research I think a BIOS Update should fix the problem. But in the BIOS-section there is a confusing line: "BIOS - UEFI for Windows 8 (Not for Upgrades)"
So, does that mean: a) not for those who had Win8/8.1 pre-installed (like me) or b) not for those who have run an inplace upgrade of Win7 to Win8/8.1 instead of a clean install.
Im using Acer Aspire 4520. Now my laptop have dead because im update the BIOS firmware on windows vista platform. On 8% progress its 'hang' now i'm can using my laptop.

FYI on my procedure
1- Run the Phoenix Crisis Disk -> Format the floppy procedure. 2- Open the Acer BIOS from website -> I get the Z03_3626.wph file then rename to bios.wph 3- Copy the bios.wph to Floppy drive 4- Insert the USB floppy to my laptop then remove the battery, hold the FN + ESC button, plug in power then press power button 5- I hear the floppy drive reading on 3minutes then after 3minutes the floopy drive stop and i release the holding FN + ESC button 6- waiting about 20 minutes nothing happen.
so what i want to do...? i think this is right procedure because it reading the floopy drive long about 3minutes. If i try burn the CD procedure nothing happen (can read), then try rename to .fd it not read.
I've spent 3 days and countless hours trying to find the solution to a black screen after attempting to update my daughter's Acer Aspire 5742Z from the bios it had to the latest bios available on the site (1.30). I ran the windows version from windows and I clicked thru the various dialogue windows appearing to be on its merry way. At one point, the screen went black and after about a half hour it stayed that way so I unplugged it b/c it wasn't responding to the power button nor the ctrl-alt-delete. I've tried using a usb stick formatted to both fat and fat32 containing the dos version of the bios files and the full contents from a windows 98 startup floppy disk i dusted off from retirement. I also tried a cdrw and cdr only containing the bios files. In all attempts, the hdd led and either the optical drive or usb stick led blinked a little before dying out and nothing more.
I just update my aspire 4745 BIOS version from 1.04 to 1.23. After that it making a big problem. If i plug in AC adapter it getting shut down. But if i turn on it without AC supply, it works perfectly. But if i try to turn on laptop after plagged AC supply, it not response anything,

Acer aspire 5745G, everything was working fine until i tired to update newer bios files, but my laptop restarted and now when i try to turn the laptop on, nothing happens and nothing appears at all, only the power button is flashing, so i googled it a little bit and i found out that i need to download a BIOS files and unzip them to my formated USB, i did that but nothing happens when i try to hold FN button + Esc ......
I was wondering if i buy a linux version of the aspire one to save money, can i switch it to XP myself? Or, since i know nothing about linux, I need to be able to use the office suite and windows based internet explorer add-ins...i dont think i can with linux, or can i?

Using 'play/pause' with 'stop' I can scroll vertically, and using 'next' with 'prev' I can scroll horizontally. It's quite annoying, because I often use them accidentally. When I was using Windows, there wasn't any problem (buttons didn't worked).Is there any method to disable them (like in Windows)?

I have successfully installed Ubuntu on my Aspire E3 112 and after a bit of fannying around with setting a System Password in the BIOS and trusting the Grub2 EFI settings, I have a stable system that boots in to both Ubuntu and Windows 8.1 with Bing.
BUT , The right click doesn't work on the Synaptic Touchpad. No matter where I click on the touchpad it is recognised as a left click.
I've tried installing the GPointing Device Setting but there aren't any config settings for right click.
I've heard that Synaptics have a product (Synaptics Gesture Suite for Linux - SGS-L) but it's only available to OEM suppliers.
I have the Acer Aspire V3-551G (specifically the V3-551G-8454 model) and since I got it the laptop has had some overheating issues when I run games or Ubuntu. My solution to that was just to stop running games and Ubuntu, and besides that it's worked pretty well besides Explorer deciding to crash randomly (it doesn't happen too often though).
However, I've had the laptop for a while now and and not too long ago I noticed the fan would rarely become extremely loud. As the weeks went by, the sound became more frequent, especially if I moved the laptop even just a little while it was on, so I stopped moving the laptop. But now, even with the laptop sitting still on a table, there is about a 40%-50% chance that it will have an extremely loud fan when I start it.
What's weird is that sometimes I noticed the fan is too quiet too. When it does this I assume that the fan is actually off which shouldn't be happening because the laptop gets super hot. Sometimes after a while of silence the loud noise come up too, which is nice because now the fan is on, but is also not good because of the volume of the noise.
I'm pretty sure problem is coming from the GPU (or whatever the big fan on the left underside of the laptop is). I also suspect the fan had actually been the culprit of the overheating (which consequently caused Explorer to crash sometimes).
I'm sorta afraid to update my BIOS since i'm planning on getting a Core 2 duo sometime. Acer Aspire 5135, and im trying to update to 1.33....what are the risks exactly? Or am i being paranoid...
im trying to update my BIOS on my 8930G from 1.10 to 1.13 (or maybe even 1.14). Im only doing this as id like to enable VT but the only info i can find is related to 1.13.
Now ive downloaded the BIOS package from Acer and have tried to run the Insyde flash utility (x64 on Win7) but it wont install. After a few seconds it comes up with;
'BIOS not for your notebook'
In the Insyde application window i can can see the following info;
Current BIOS ID - 8930 & Version V1.13 New BIOS ID - KM2/TT2 & Version V1.14
