View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought this acer laptop about 5 months ago, it was working fine up until a couple days ago that I started to notice that it would shut down after 3-5 minutes of usage, sometimes shorter, and while plugged in, it would shut down before I could even type in my password.
I'm certain that overheating is not the problem, the tempature inside my laptop hovers around 50 and it never feels hot to the touch when it shuts down.
Yesterday, I saw on the Lenovo System Update app, that I had couple critical and optional updates. These were the updates:
WER Patch
Lenovo Comm Utility
Lenovo Power Management Driver
ThinkPad Power Manager
Intel WLAN Driver
BIOS 2.60.1.14
There were couple updates on the Windows Side. I ran all of them in one session so I can't really say if windows messed up something or the System Update is responsible but since yesterday I can no longer shutdown my x230t i7 Win 7 Pro. I closes the desktop and then it gets to the screen where you'll see a spinning wheel and the words "Shutting Down":
But it will hang there forever and never actually shuts down. I have to press and hold down power button to shutdown.
I am looking for the following bios:
Acer Aspire 5310, Intel 27A0 rev 3, 2008-12-08, v1.50
Do you have any idea where to get this, who to ask? Acer does not list it, does not respond properly and I could not find anything in the forum here.
I have no issues whatsoever with this laptop, but just saw that there is a newer version of the BIOS available from Acer. Should this be updated? What precautions should I take before doing so?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Aspire 7720z. As Vista was having so many glitches, I set up a dual boot system with XP and Ubuntu 8.10 on two partitions on the same drive. Last week I upgraded Ubuntu to 9.10 but started having power problems. I read somewhere that a BIOS update would help so I flashed to v1.45. Everything is now going great with my Ubuntu OS. The problem lies in Windows. When I try to boot to XP the splash screen comes up for a couple of seconds and the the computer reboots. I used a test disk to check the drive and everything is fine. I then tried to repair the XP installation with the install disk but was told that it couldn't find an XP installation. So, for the umteenth time, I tried to re-install XP but was told that the installer couldn't locate any devices to install onto. Completely bewildering as my Ubuntu installation works perfectly.

Every once in a while, and lately quit frequently, my screen goes black, and it will not boot...I have attached an exterior Monitor to it, with no success, so I assume it is not the video portion. To get it to boot I turn it off and on until it re-boots. Sometimes it reboots quickly and at other times it takes several minutes...up to 20 or 30 sometimes. I have run a disc check to see if all the sectors are good on the hard drive. It checks out okay..I thought if the BIOS was out of date, I would update it, to see if that work....

It has vista home premium preinstalled. Lately I installed Xp on it (Ive done it many times before because its faster) The only thing is that with Xp it shutsdown after some time, 'cuase of the heat. So I thought I'll update the BIOS. It went well but then IT shutsdown! I was afraid of this but it happened. Now my Lap won't boot, nothing comes up, not even a sound! The only thing that work is the dvd driver. The fan goes like it would boot but nothing. I tried to flash it via usb but didn't read the usb.
I attempted to update the BIOS in my Acer Aspire 5315 laptop to no avail, the winbios program froze straight away, while erasing the BIOS I think. So since then I havn't been able to start the laptop, no fans, but does blink a red LED beside the little light icon when left for longer than 10 seconds or so when you press the power button. I've tried the fn+esc method to boot it to flash the bios but nothing at all, tried it with USB and CD-ROM. I've tried removing all the hardware and starting it, I've also tried resetting the CMOS, still no luck.
I'm thinking that the red LED might be a little indicator of hope, or is it maybe the capacitor filling up

I've tried doing the FN+ESC and tried all the BIOS downloads in the Acer site but it still did not work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI own an Aspire V3-571G Notebook with ArchLinux dual-booting Win8.1. When I'm starting Arch I get this (Ivybridge-/Sandybridge -related) error:
"[drm:cpt_serr_int_handler] *ERROR* PCH transcoder A FIFO underrun"
After research I think a BIOS Update should fix the problem. But in the BIOS-section there is a confusing line:
"BIOS - UEFI for Windows 8 (Not for Upgrades)"
So, does that mean:
a) not for those who had Win8/8.1 pre-installed (like me) or
b) not for those who have run an inplace upgrade of Win7 to Win8/8.1 instead of a clean install.
I have an Aspire E5-571 without pre-installed OS. I don't care about Windows - I am using Linux (Ubuntu).
There are some problems reported by the Linux kernel at boot (UEFI mode) an I was hoping that a BIOS update may solve some of them (ACPI issues and unclaimed hardware). May be very well the Linux kernel but I can't exclude BIOS either.
On the Downloads page, under BIOS tab, there are four current BIOS versions with brief and strange description: versions 1.08, 1.09, 1.11 and 1.24
IF (and only if) I decide to update BIOS, which version should I use? What are the real differences between versions (Release Notes)? Except Windows 8 hacks, is there any real "improved system performance" on other OS? What is BIOS (5.2MB versions) vs. VBIOS (13MB update)?
Im using Acer Aspire 4520. Now my laptop have dead because im update the BIOS firmware on windows vista platform. On 8% progress its 'hang' now i'm can using my laptop.
the many solution i have try on this forum. not done.
FYI on my procedure
1- Run the Phoenix Crisis Disk -> Format the floppy procedure.
2- Open the Acer BIOS from website -> I get the Z03_3626.wph file then rename to bios.wph
3- Copy the bios.wph to Floppy drive
4- Insert the USB floppy to my laptop then remove the battery, hold the FN + ESC button, plug in power then press power button
5- I hear the floppy drive reading on 3minutes then after 3minutes the floopy drive stop and i release the holding FN + ESC button
6- waiting about 20 minutes nothing happen.
so what i want to do...? i think this is right procedure because it reading the floopy drive long about 3minutes. If i try burn the CD procedure nothing happen (can read), then try rename to .fd it not read.
I've spent 3 days and countless hours trying to find the solution to a black screen after attempting to update my daughter's Acer Aspire 5742Z from the bios it had to the latest bios available on the site (1.30). I ran the windows version from windows and I clicked thru the various dialogue windows appearing to be on its merry way. At one point, the screen went black and after about a half hour it stayed that way so I unplugged it b/c it wasn't responding to the power button nor the ctrl-alt-delete. I've tried using a usb stick formatted to both fat and fat32 containing the dos version of the bios files and the full contents from a windows 98 startup floppy disk i dusted off from retirement. I also tried a cdrw and cdr only containing the bios files. In all attempts, the hdd led and either the optical drive or usb stick led blinked a little before dying out and nothing more.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently updated my Dell m4800 to BIOS A8 with Windows 7 64. I had been using a collection of older power adapters from my previous Dell m4400 without any issues. After the update, wow. A huge performance hit if I do not have the 19.5 volt and 9.23 amp adapter connected.
The m4400 power adapter is 19.5 volt and 6.7 amp. Pretty close right? Not any more.
I do have it connected to a Dell docking station almost all the time. Just checked. They are both 6.7 amp.
What changed in BIOS A8 and what the deal is with the performance? Looks like I need to request a new docking station, but I'm not sure IT will believe my story.
Acer aspire 5745G, everything was working fine until i tired to update newer bios files, but my laptop restarted and now when i try to turn the laptop on, nothing happens and nothing appears at all, only the power button is flashing, so i googled it a little bit and i found out that i need to download a BIOS files and unzip them to my formated USB, i did that but nothing happens when i try to hold FN button + Esc ......
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have an acer aspire 5100 series everything is great on it except i have this weird problem, when i connect to my wireless network after is says connected i open the iexplorer and then the laptop shuts off. Thats the only time it does that, if i dont connect to the internet it works fine and never turns off. First i thought it was overheating but i bought those fans that go under the laptops and still shuts off when i connect to my wireless network. Anyone have any idead of what could be causing this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had a look on the forum and from what I saw it was at regular intervals when peoples laptops were shutting down.My laptop shuts down when moved this is often when the laptop is being picked up. I have had a fresh install and still not rectified. Therefore I feel it's down to the internals. I took it to my local shop and tbh he made a meal of it and messed up my windows so got it back and thought to have a go alot self. The fan has been cleaned so don't think its overheating as it can turn off after a min when the laptop is moved or can run for hours if left on a table or something. It makes a click sound and it shuts off.

Over the past few weeks, I've been having an unusual problem. Whenever I plug the AC adapter to my laptop, the whole laptop performance - from the second I switch it on - is very slow. The moment I pull the AC adapter from the laptop, it instantly operates at a normal and fast speed again!
I figured that it must have been a problem with the AC adapter (it's had its fair share of use - being swung around and dragged to lectures...). So I ordered another one off Ebay. Today, I got the new adapter and when I plugged it in, the laptop only went on AC power. It worked fine - fast as normal. However, it was not charging - just on AC power. I am starting to question if the adapter was really as "genuine" like it was advertised on eBay. But anyway... after about 4 hours with the new adapter on AC power, it stopped recognizing the battery altogether and alerted me with a Critical Battery sign. Of course, a few minutes later, it went dead on me - the laptop switched off. It was as if I removed the AC adapter myself, only I hadn't. Now, I am trying to plug it in again (the new one), to see if it will be able to power up again and it just won't respond at all.
On the other hand, when I put the old AC adapter, the laptop switches on but doesn't charge. Again, it is extremely slow with the adapter on, and fast when I pull the wire out. Only for a minute or so until it dies on me again...
I got a new Acer a few months ago and it worked fine in the beginning. In the last few weeks, it has been randomly shutting down. It does not show the normal shut down message you would see when using power button or Start Menu but just shuts off. When it comes back on, it says Windows did not shut down properly.
I seemed to have narrowed this down to when I move the screen or move the laptop.
My acer aspire p3 tablet did not show on TV screen when i plug the hdmi to my TV ....
View 1 Replies View RelatedI think that it is an overheating problem considering my laptop (ONLY recently) seems to be getting very hot, to the point it needs to shut down. But this is the strange thing:
I had Windows Vista installed on this laptop (Acer Aspire 5100) earlier, and my battery almost never heated up to the point it needed to shut down, or even heat up to an extreme level.... But now that I have downgraded to Windows XP SP2, it seems to shut down MUCH more often. But I did find one thing of concern. Around the same time my laptop started shutting down, I installed an application called 'Game Speed Changer' and that whenever I had used it, it slowed my computer down immensely, and then when I went to close it, the BSOD would appear. Every time.
I'm in the repair field and I've got a customer's Aspire 5520 that was brought in for overheating. The machine had gone to Iraq, and the customer has indoor dogs..so yes, the fins on the heat pipe were very clogged. Got it all cleaned out, and the machine is still shutting itself off after between 10 minutes and 30 seconds of use.
Now, the machine isn't overheating. SpeedFan and a few other CPU temp utilities are showing the CPU to be around 45*c when the machine is randomly shutting down. 45c is not what I'd consider hot for a Turion x2.
It's not a RAM issue, I've replaced the CPU and am getting the same symptoms.
My Acer Aspire 5741G-3652 keeps shutting down while I am using it.

When I connect the charger just to a power socket the green light on the charger comes on but when I plug the other end into the laptop the green light on the charger goes off, I have taken the battery off the laptop and it still does the same thing, and in both cases the laptop will not power up and no light appears on it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Aspire 7520 with xp OS. It has weird sound problem. Sound is not coming from speaker but when I plug in my headphone it does, but that too is very distorted. It was working fine previously both speaker and headphone. I dont know what went wrong? "Audio_Relatek_5.1" drivers are currently installed.
I've also checked sound setting they are perfectly fine.
My laptop has decided to stop recognising any USB device I plug into it.
I have tried to uninstall the USB drivers and reinstall them and this has not worked.
When I plug in headphones into my headohones port, should the main speakers not go to mute?
