View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the 13" Macbook Pro 7,1 and everytime I try to install Linux/Windows they come up with errors which basically say that they can't find my HDD or the Optical Drive during installation.
I don't like the idea of being stuck with OS-X.
Turns out it's a MBP 7,1...not 6,1.
I just purchased an Acer E511 laptop with windows 8 and am wondering if the acer recovery management program can be removed. I noticed that when I go into settings, change pc settings, I can recover using windows 8. Will this option be removed if I uninstall Acer Recovery Management? What's the difference between the two?

Linux system not windows ...
I have an Aspire E5-571 without pre-installed OS. I don't care about Windows - I am using Linux (Ubuntu).
There are some problems reported by the Linux kernel at boot (UEFI mode) an I was hoping that a BIOS update may solve some of them (ACPI issues and unclaimed hardware). May be very well the Linux kernel but I can't exclude BIOS either.
On the Downloads page, under BIOS tab, there are four current BIOS versions with brief and strange description: versions 1.08, 1.09, 1.11 and 1.24
IF (and only if) I decide to update BIOS, which version should I use? What are the real differences between versions (Release Notes)? Except Windows 8 hacks, is there any real "improved system performance" on other OS? What is BIOS (5.2MB versions) vs. VBIOS (13MB update)?
Few days ago I've installed Xubuntu on my Acer Aspire 5920G notebook. I saw that blue media buttons (these on the right side of the keyboard) started to work as a mouse wheel. Using 'play/pause' with 'stop' I can scroll vertically, and using 'next' with 'prev' I can scroll horizontally. It's quite annoying, because I often use them accidentally. When I was using Windows, there wasn't any problem (buttons didn't worked). Is there any method to disable them (like in Windows)?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am about to re-install Windows on my friend's laptop, an Aspire 4520.
I am not super familiar with laptops, however I have noted that at the top
of his desktop, there is an utility program, a toolbar that I think is called Empowering Technology. My friend uses it mainly to check his battery charge
level, although there are a few other tools in this bar, like "acer eData Security Management".
The problem is, if I reinstall Windows, all programs on the Windows partition will be erased. That included this program/toolbar. And I don't know where to get back it back...like where to download a new one for installation.
my gf has aspire 5100 with vista in it, and it sucks so I decided to install xp to it. I reseached from google that does it support xp and does it work and found out that it does, you just need to make custom xp-install disc to get the HDD drivers so that xp-installation finds the HDD.
When I install xp, I get past the filecopying-part fine, then it reboots as usual and tries to start windows, but in the loading screen with xp-logo it gives me bluescreen.
0x0000007B is the error.
I've tried many installing over and over again, but with no luck. Its possible that my xp-cd is damaged in some way, but I just dont think so.
Any solution? Seems like everyone else has had no problems with installing xp to aspire 5100 vista.
I believe that istalling vista back works, but its not the right solution, since its piece of **** and slow as ****.
I bought a Aspire E5-551 on amazon second hand. Had a fresh Windows 8.1 on it. Turn it on, mess around, everything seems fine if not slow due to the HDD. Pop in a new SSD I bought that tested OK on with another computer. Install Windows 8.1 Via USB. It get to the part will it tell me to restart, upon restart it will always hang at getting ready or some such thing. I let it set for hours, even the spinning icon stropped spinning.
So I reset the laptop via the power button. I get the error "The Computer Restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error" and tell me to restart. It will keep doing this no matter how many times I click restart. Never had this issues with all the other computers or laptops I ever installed 8.1 one but the internet has a solution. While the "The Computer Restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error" is on screen you can bring up cmd line via shift+f10 and bring up regedit. The fix is to go to HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion and change the setup.exe key to 3. After this I'll get some issues with blank screens upon restart but after 1 or 2 reboots i get to my desktop. Though the desktop doesn't have all the apps and things a fresh windows install comes with.
Like IE is not even listed on the start menu. Looks like a halve baked install or something. But everything is fine. While like this I can reboot the machine a bunch. Click around, seems okay. Seems like all is well till I start installing drivers. Ill go installing drivers then the machine will stop responding to clicks but the mouse still moves around. When I reboot it like this Ill get struck at "getting ready" and i'll never be able to get to my desktop again. Now I can get into safe mode and Ill uninstall all the drivers but when I try to do a regular boot ill just hang at "getting ready'.
i just bought an acer aspire 5102wlmi without a HD for a friend. so i went and bought a HD and proceeded to install windows XP home service pack 2.
the problem is it constantly stays in a loop, i load and boot from the disc, it copies all the files, reboots, loads the files, says starting windows, and then just starts all over by going back to the setup screen. i've formatted the drive and made multiple attempts. had anyone else had this problem? if so what is the solution?
I've Acer Aspire V5-431 with Intel Celeron 1007U @1.5Ghz with 4GB of RAM, but whenever I tried to install Windows 8, it's always came with Blue Screen of Dead and it's shows this error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my Acer Aspire one D250. One week ago my HDD didnt work and I bought another HDD. I dont have CD for reinstall windows XP that it was installed. Now I wanted to install windows 7 starter but impossible. He says he can not because the BIOS might not be compatible with the operating system and then tells me that if I want to load drivers. I'm a little desperate. I changed in the BIOS mode IDE hard drive to AHCI and vice versa. If I put IDE and try to install windows 7 does not recognize the disk (I have to put in AHCI).
The message I get is:You can not install windows on this HDD. It is possible that the hardware of this equipment is not capable of booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu. Another warning he gives is:The installation program can not create a new system partition or locate an existing one. See the log files installation program for more information.
I updated the BIOS version to the last (1.29).
I bought Acer E5-527G-77BU. I installed windows 8.1 Pro with no problem. But I really don't like this windows and I want to install Windows 7. But when I plug in DVD or flash drive with windows, I don't get the boot option for it (in the f12 boot menu). If I put in the Win 8.1 DVD everything is fine. I can chose it from the menu.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor the last 2 days I have been trying to install Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode on my laptop but it seems entirely impossible. Whatever I do, the boot menu (F12) just won't show any UEFI devices AT ALL, just the normal DVD and/or USB options. Obviously when I try to boot from either normal DVD or USB, Windows 7 setup freezes at the "Starting Windows" screen, I'm pretty sure that's because it is not running the EFI bootloader of the setup.
For the record, I can't just install Windows 7 in Legacy/BIOS mode because it is then impossible to install the Synaptics Touchpad driver under Windows because the Touchpad device is not discovered for whatever reason.

Has anyone got a process and/or pictures of how to remove the DVD drive from an Aspire series notebook? Most other laptops ive seen are just a slider or single screw but seemingly not that on this model.
Ive even gone as far as removing all the screws on the underside but it still doesn't loosen the drive.
I want to remove it to clean and check another model drive to see if its a drive fault or not and if there is a fault replace.
I did a complete restore of windows 7 starter on acer aspire one d270-1410. install hangs up on office 2010, currently for over 8 hours, without going any further. it's a vicious circle. can't get past office 2010 install. i have no cd drive.

Its super irritating that the charms pops up when accidentily touching the mousepad to close to the edge. My PC is not a tablet and why this is activated in the first place is to me sstrange. I want to completly remove all edge guestures on my mousepad. I have tryed to install the last driver because someone said that the option was added in the new driver, but no luck.

My question is, for a relatively novice IT person - although not a complete muppet! - the 'clean install' looks rather complicated to me and the risk of something going wrong rather scary! In this regard, can i not simply use the add/remove applications function in the control panel?
If this were an alternative otion, which programmes are the ones i dont need!
