Just purchased a new Acer laptop: ASPIRE 5740-6378
This is the first laptop, I ever seen that has this much software installed by the manufacture Acer.
I have the following groups
Acer
Acer Arcade Deluxe
Acer GridVista
AcerSystem
Acer Welcome Center
Egis Software
Launch Manager
NewTech Acer Backup Manager
I just want to know which of these can I uninstall?
I removed the hard drive cover on my new Aspire 5740-6478 and there is an unused, open bay in there, next to the hard drive, for some component.

I have that laptop but mine is the upgraded 4gigs from 3 gigs of RAM. I'm extremely impressed with its performance so far!
My question is: Is it possible with this laptop/model to get an aftermarket graphics card? Or is that out of the question? I guess I'm just trying to get the best possible game performance out of this notebook.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my 5740-5513 laptop. When I press the power button it shows up the Acer welcome screen and blanks out and sort of powers again and shows up Acer welcome screen. This keeps happening in a loop.Â

I dont hear any RAM or DISPLAY beeps or hard disk activity. I am able to press F2 and go in BIOS. I do see HDD being available in the boot order settings. Not sure, if this is a static entry or only show up if it is detected.Â

This was brought in 2010 so dont have the warranty cover. Do I need a BIOS update? btw, this laptop was working fine and suddenly stopped working.

The hard drive on my Aspire 5740-6025 went bad and needed replaced. I purchased a new HD and installed using the recovery disks. Everything went fine until it got to the Windows screen that said "Setup is applying system settings." At that point I got a message saying "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware." How can I get the new hard drive to work on my system?

View 3 Replies View RelatedHas anyone got a process and/or pictures of how to remove the DVD drive from an Aspire series notebook? Most other laptops ive seen are just a slider or single screw but seemingly not that on this model.
Ive even gone as far as removing all the screws on the underside but it still doesn't loosen the drive.
I want to remove it to clean and check another model drive to see if its a drive fault or not and if there is a fault replace.

Its super irritating that the charms pops up when accidentily touching the mousepad to close to the edge. Â My PC is not a tablet and why this is activated in the first place is to me sstrange. Â I want to completly remove all edge guestures on my mousepad. Â I have tryed to install the last driver because someone said that the option was added in the new driver, but no luck. Â

Both have the same processor i5 520
Both have the same graphics card ATI 5650
Both have a BD-ROM/DVD-RW
But the 5740 i've seen at £700 and the 5942 at £940.
Apart from a slightly larger hard-drive, the media board instead of the number pad and the backlit keyboard. What else would does the 5942 have that would constitute a £240 difference?
I just got the new acer 5740-6491 model and the alps touchpad (multi-touch) does not work well.
When in use the cursor jumps around the screen very erratically.
Ive tried reinstalling the driver and using the synaptics driver as well. Neither work.
Does anyone have support in this issue? Basically all I want is to scroll on the touchpad and doubleclick.

my seven week old son decided to vomit across my Acer 5920 laptop yesterday.

I've downloaded the service manual but I can't seem to be able to lift the keyboard off. There are four areas to prize open just below the speaker but I can't work out how to do it - do they push in or lift up?

I need to remove it, but the screw on the bottom, which needs to be removed in order to take out the cd drive, has been damaged by me trying to unscrew it, and it will not turn, so the head is damaged and i cannot use a screw driver to turn it.
