Each keystroke (letter, number or symbol) appears twice. Backspace clears both. Unable to enter correct PW req'd. to log into Windows 7. No problems indicated at prior to last shutdown. I'm using a Acer Notebook.
View 2 RepliesI want to disable Ctrl+Shift+S, which opens HP's System Information window. I know it's not Windows' 'coz I didn't have a problem when I had a clean installation, but since I just used HP's recovery CDs, now I'm stuck with that stupid "feature". I called HP and the representative said that keystrokes couldn't be disabled but it turned out he didn't even understand me and make that up, apparently.
Is there a way I can delete certain key combinations from the Reg Editor or something like that. I wish I had done a clean installation but now I don't really have the time to do it.
Is there anyway to change the dpi / magnification settings in Windows 7 without having to log off and back on or restart the machine?
I'm looking at a Studio 1557 laptop as a desktop replacement with a 1080p (1920 X 1080) screen which I think will make the text and icons quite small.
I can easily change the DPI to 120 (125%) or 144 (150%) and make everything readable which is great however when it's at a desk it's going to be connected to two 20 inch plus monitors and these require the normal 96dpi (100%).
The problem is the machine will be frequently connected and disconnected and having to close and reopen all applications to restart the machine properly is a real pain.
Windows XP used to warn you about having to restart but if you didn't things were still resized. With Win 7 nothing happens until you do.
I have an HP DV7-1030eg laptop and am running Vista Home 64 bit, and lately, there has been some invisible force that seems to be sending keystrokes through my system and messing up my volume settings. Here's some things that happen:
- when I use ALT-TAB, the bar (the ALT-TAB window that pops up in the middle of the screen) will just disappear
- IrfanView will suddenly jump to the next picture or quit full screen mode
- screensaver doesn't stay on longer than a couple seconds
- sometimes, my sound volume will drop, shake up and down a bit and then go all the way out. When I open the volume settings, I can see the volume slider wobbling around at the bottom
Needless to say, I checked for viruses and stuff, then I looked for advice online: the ALT-TAB problem seems to be pretty common, esp. with DELL notebooks (?), and people have had the same issue with IrfanView. I hear that removing the notebook's battery will help because there is electric tension building and that triggers unwanted impulses. And it's true, when I remove the battery, the PC becomes more stable - for a short while. Then, the problems reappear.
I checked out the test field in the FilterKeys feature, which emits a clicking sound at every keystroke, and it's clicking like crazy. There's roughly one keystroke a second happening in my system right now!
Maybe my setup is not properly grounded? I live in an old house with old wires etc. - how do I discharge electrical tension from an object? Or do I have too much stuff connected to my computer that creates an electric field? I have a 2.1 stereo system with ground loop isolator, an external monitor and USB mouse/keyboard.
I have a Latitude 2100. All of the sudden I cannot log into the internet. It says that I'm connected to the wireless connection. I've tried everything to access the internet, but nothing has worked. Maybe some other route to go to get the internet connection back.

View 7 Replies View RelatedNo matter how many times i restart the labtop, it will first go black screen with dell log, then "resuming windows", then goes to the "logging off.." screen and stays there FOREVER. I tried to use both battery or AC power but they are just the same. I can adjust the lightness of screen using my keyboard but I cant see my mouse pointer anywhere on the screen so i cant click on anything.

After waking up from sleep mode (usually after the very first time of waking up from sleep mode, but always after the second time), the process 'System interrupts' has high CPU usage, up to 45%. The laptop then responds very, very slow. Also, in Internet Explorer (but only in Internet Explorer, it seems!) keystrokes are missing out.

I tried the following:
-Implemented all Windows updates, all McAfee updates and all HP Assistent updates. No result.
-Reinstalled all drivers, no result. Windows system restore: no result. Factory reset from recovery partition: no result. Then implemented all updates again: no result.
-I tried to use Microsoft Xperf to diagnose the problem: it seems to blame wdf0100.sys for the high CPU usage. (That is, if I interpreted the results in the right way.)

-I then did some troubleshooting with Microsoft Support: they asked me to disable all startup items in the Task manager, and disable all non-Microsoft services in msconfig. The result was that the high cpu usage of 'System Interrupts' occured less frequently after the first time of coming out of sleep mode, but still it always occured after the second time of waking up out of sleep mode. Uninstalling McAfee seems to have the same effect, by the way.

-I then did some troubleshooting with the store were I bought it. They used a driver program to install some newer versions of drivers. Also to no avail.

They then gave me another laptop of the same model (r085nd). This one had exactly the same problems. So I suspect that ALL laptops of this model have the same issue!

-I then did some troubleshooting with HP Support. We updated the BIOS (F.24), without result. We did some additional driver updates from the HP Website, no result. We wanted to update the Intel HD Graphics driver (sp65598), but we couldn't install it, getting an error message saying minimum system requirements weren't met.

I hope HP support can come up with a solution (they wanted to look further into it). If so, I'll promise to post it here, as it probably affects other HP r085nd's as well.
If I leave my E4300 (in sig) idle too long (like when watching TV or eating) the LAN will turn off, thus disconnecting me from AIM, email, etc..
How do I prevent the LAN from turning off when idle? I've looked everywhere, in DCP, device properties, and power schemes and settings.
I love the laptop but I was just wondering if the fan is supposed to kick in, slow down, kick in, slow down all the time.
It's not loud but I just find it weird since all I'm doing is Word processing. I tried Speed Fan but it refuses to open and freezes up the computer
Like many others who use this series, I was faced with a dead HP laptop 3 weeks ago, giving nothing but a blank screen and 3 beeps (1 long, 2 short).
It turned out that almost all models under this series had this same problem due to the NVidia graphic card that overheated the mainboard So I sent mine in for repair at the HP service center and just got it back a few days ago.
I was just wondering if there is any way at all that I can prevent the new mainboard from overheating like this again? I would like to my notebook to live as long as possible from now on.
I checked the temperature just now and it was at 75C. It said the threshold was at 105C...
it's probably just me but it's been a long time since I installed Vista64 (it's that reliable) and I've forgotten a few things...
1. How do I prevent the battery from being charged when the laptop is switched on (and powered by cable)?
2. How can I make the CD automatically stop spinning after, say, a minute of non-use?
I used Mail for all my Gmail accounts (IMAP) and for each account, Mail created a "folder" called Sent.
EVERY mails that I sent is kept locally in the Sent folder. Problem is, this create a duplicate because now I have TWO copies of the same sent email:

Gmail's "Sent Mail" Folder
how to prevent Mail from keeping this sent mail locally? It's already sync'ed by the Gmail IMAP folder anyway.
This is just fabulous. Dell has essentially shut down my business indefinately. On Wednesday, my D630's (my primary machine) hard drive failed. They sent me a "new" hard drive on Thursday. Great. But, it was a "refurbished" drive of a different brand, and something wrong with the bracket fitting left the sharp corner of the bracket sticking out of the side of my computer. Ok, I get yet another on Friday -- same thing. They promise to send me a new bracket assembly along with it, in case the one on the other drive is bad, too. Got the "new" refurb in today. As expected, they didn't include the new bracket hardware, this one has the same problem and, in addition, the thing is a cheapee Fugitsu (my original was an 18 month old Seagate) that is scraped up on the sides and seems to have some of the connectors broke off! Their only options are -- wait for it -- to send me another POS,non-fitting refurb drive, or send it to the depot, where they'll keep my computer for two weeks and send it with the jagged edges of the refurb drive hardware sticking out the side of my lappy.
So, lucky me, I can't play their "refurbished" drive game any more, and I had to pay to order a new one from New Egg. So, now the computer will be out at least a week after the drive failure, and I'll still be faced after a week's down time with rebuilding the programs and data.
But wait, it gets better. I've been working on my refurb (purchased 10/2007) D420 with 2 years of warranty left on it since my D630 went down. As "luck" would have it, the thing is suddenly getting scalding hot on the bottom near the vent, and my PC Card slot has failed, so that I can't get on my mobile broadband. Looks like the darned motherboard on this one is going, and I have to send it into the depot, where I'll likely get more of their "refurbished" (read, "used") parts. 7-10 business days for this one, and now I have no computer, can't use my primary programs, and I've lost tons of data.
I'm trying to build my own vaio(VGN-FW-35X) on the uk sonystyle page, but it's not clear if the 1920x1020 is using a double lamp technology or not.
Tried sony customer services but that had no clue they will call me back some time this week.
All it says on the page is:

I bought a sony vaio laptop a little over 2 years ago. I never had a problem untill about 4 monthes ago. I got the "blue screen of death". It said something about the BIOS but would never stay on long enough for me to totaly read it. I went to Best Buy and asked if they had any ideas.
The guy said to contact Sony and get a recovery disk, so i did. I ran the cd but half way through it I got another blue screen that read:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time youve seen this stop error screen, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space .....

In my business, we created supervisor password and enabled "lock BIOS settings" to prevent access BIOS on model T520i and T530i. But it's always possible to access on "read-only" to BIOS. How to prevent this access ?

When I plug into the docking station at home the mouse will double click every time I single click. If single click, I have to quickly move off of the object or it will double click every time. I've tried a new mouse, reducing double click speed, and does NOT happen on my docking station at work or when using laptop with mouse plugged in locally.

It is extremely frustrating and makes working from home a pain rather that productive.
I worked my off to get this laptop. So I want to protect it as much as I can for as long as I can. I realize that since this is aluminum, it may experience corrosive pitting if I'm not careful.
SO, what case is the best to prevent this and to keep scratches off? I dont care if it changes the look, just give me the best one!
Another question, how are u supposed to pull out the magsafe anyway? Everytime I try to take it out, it always feels like the edge is going to scratch near the ports
I just opened my new Inspiron 15 (5545, Mid-2014), and the touchpad occasionally double clicks. When I press the lower left corner, I sometimes get a single click (which is what I'm expecting), but I also sometimes get a double click. If I simply tap the touchpad once, I can get a single click, but I should be able to use the left-click button.
I've checked the Dell Touchpad settings, and I verified that the left button is set to "Click" and not "Double click". I ran the Dell Touchpad test in My Dell, but all it was checking for was whether or not the buttons and touch surface were responsive. It didn't seem to indicate whether the press was a double click or a single click.
My keyboardd generates double letters (I'm leaving them in as I type to show what II mean). I've searched this forum for similar probleems and have already done the following:
Updated BIOS
Installed/uupdated toouchpad ddriver and input ddriver
Installed touchfreeeze
Unchecked the keyboard driver in device manager andd restarted the computer
None of those steps has solved the problem.
I have a  Dell Inspiron Model# N5040.
I have a problem with double clicking. (assume that all clicking is the left click) It is most apparent on the internet, when I hit the back button once, I go back two pages. Its annoying, but now i'm having trouble highlighting, and other important tasks. I do know about keyboard alternatives, but the mouse is just more convenient.Â
This problem started soon after my laptop survived having orange juice spilled onto it.
I have done my own research, and most forums state a software problem, but I am sure that I have a mechanical problem. I noticed that there is an "upstroke" and  a "downstroke" to my click. When I click, that is the downstroke, the mouse performs as it's supposed to; but when I lift my finger, there is a second click that I did not intend, the upstroke. I've tested this on button clicking games on my laptop, and on other computers.Â
Anyone else noticed these two? I used to run Win7 via Boot Camp, but even turned to max in both software and the OS control panel, volume was always painfully low; never found a definitive fix via Google.
Also, seemed like double-clicking via two-fingered tapping was iffy; sometimes worked, sometimes didn't.
Any way to fix these two? I'm missing Windows 7.
When I depress the left button on the touchpad it "single clicks". When I release pressure from that button there is another "single click". I have looked at the Mouse settings and I do not see an option for this.
