View 5 RepliesCurrently whenever I startup my laptop the display flickers. If windows fully boots or I try to enter one of the startup menus the will flash briefly on the screen and then the display will return to and remain black.
I am able to run an HDMI cable to my TV and it seems to be running fine other than going black with the occasional distorted picture of windows booting.
i got a hp dv2000 and sometimes when i start it up and it gets to the user selection screen i cant find my cursor to select my user account. I keep moving my finger on the touch pad but cant find it. I have to hold the power button down it will shut off then i have to pull out the battery start it up and the cursor is now there this has happened like 5 times already what would cause this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday, I tried connecting an external display to my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 laptop, via a USB hub, only to discover that using the touch screen points at the corresponding part of the external display rather than the inbuilt one (the displays are being extended). Can this be changed?
I'm using the same 64-bit Windows 8 installation and drivers that the computer came with.
No matter how many times i restart the labtop, it will first go black screen with dell log, then "resuming windows", then goes to the "logging off.." screen and stays there FOREVER. I tried to use both battery or AC power but they are just the same. I can adjust the lightness of screen using my keyboard but I cant see my mouse pointer anywhere on the screen so i cant click on anything.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've spent a while now reading through the forums for both the 1st and 2nd gen 15" Envys. My first gen Envy, purchased 3 weeks ago suffered the dreaded black screen issue, which was identified by turning the machine on and leaving it for a while - could be 10 minutes, could be hours and the screen would go black, system would lock up and require a hard reboot. Oddly enough the hard drive packed up after a couple of weeks use. I replaced the drive myself with a new western digital Scorpio, but the symptoms still occurred.
Having bought the unit from a retailer, I took it back and had the last remaining gen 1, which was their display unit (i prefer the lower res screen for gaming-better performance at native res). To date I have not had a single black screen. The drivers and software are exactly the same, which kind of ruined my idea that it may be drivers causing the issue, so I'm very intrigued as to what may be causing the issue.
I'd like to keep this thread solely to covering this issue as it seems to be affecting users of both first and 2nd gen units, so feel free to post your experiences of this exact problem and any remedies you may have discovered, as it took me ages to find like minded users in the massive general Envy threads! Maybe we can get enough information to help the Hp techs, as I really think this unit is otherwise a very good performer!
For the past few months I've had issues with my display on my laptop. At times I would start the computer and it would either go to a black screen and take a very long time to load or I had to restart it to get it to go to the start screen.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using my HP Pavilion g7 the other day, while gaming and the screen went black for no appairent reason. i haven't down loaded anything recently and i run virus software.
We went to the HP support web site and went through several diagnotics. When the laptop is rebooted the screen on the laptop will flash images of my desk top but once the machine boots up the screen remains blank. you can see the glow from around the edges but that is it. I have another monitor plugged in currently and the system is functioning propertly except for this. We have also done the following, hard reset,Test for memory modual problems, test the hard drive. I was also trying to update the video drivers but the system tells me the drivers are working properly.
I have a dell xps m170 (2 and a half years old) and last 2 days im getting "funky" display problems...
Initially i got a black screen while in windows...nothing to do but reboot. That worked a couple of times...then after rebooting i get a "whiteish" screen that gradually got blacker from outside in..id say it looked like dark storm clouds
I also noticed that the laptop had gotten a lot hotter than normal...this had been gradually happening over time...so much so that i invested in a laptop case / pad to rest it on while working on it..anyways..after reading some threads here i grabbed some monitoring software and logged GPU temps of 70 spiking to 90ish...CPU from 55 to 90's...
Then the funniest thing happened, in order to boot up and avoid the "whiteish" screen and boot into windows i noticed if i attached an external monitor it worked more than if i didnt !! (no idea if this is relevant).
When i did get into windows...it'd look normal for a while, 10 mins or so..then go black (flicker) and id get a diff display res appear (bigger icons n such)..then what i can only describe as red..sometims yello dots, maybe 4 across (width ways ..like bars of them) running the full length of the screen...
Again after reading some threads decided to run the dell diag...That showed me some errors when it did the video test(i think)
Quote:
Error Code : 5300:0119. Detected a failure while writing and reading video memory. Video mode DH (320x200x16) Address A0044h expected to read 0h but read 101010h instead
he above error message was repeated quite a lot with different references to numbers...
Am i screwed ?? Do i have any options at all...Must point out im NOT a gamer at all...so graffix card isnt an issue, if indeed i can replace it?
I have hp g62 after windows start i got a black screen then i restart the pc going in safe mode then disable graphic card then restart pc it's working but the graphic card still disable...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had my Hp dv7 notebook for a few months now and have had no problems. But all of a sudden, I turn on the computer and see nothng but a blank, black screen. I do not know if I changed the display settings or what, but I cannot see anything. I know the computer is functioning because the fan turns on and the keyboard lights work. When I connected my laptop to an external monitor, I was able to see that my computer was on and fully functional. In fact, I am using it right now on an external monitor to type this message.

Screen goes black then shuts down tries to restart and sometimes does but screen is black so can’t see what’s on screen. Other times it just shuts down completely. Sometimes screen goes haywire with bizarre horizontal color lines mixed with strange pixelated graphics then goes black.
After restarting in safe mode and ran CCleaner then performed a Hard Reset which seemed to work for the rest of day but next day within an hour screen flashed, went black then came back on again. This time a notice come up but I clicked it thinking to get more info but only made notice go away. It said something about Intel Graphics Accelerator stopped working and had successfully restarted.
I have Intel HD Graphics Driver version 8.15.10.2086 which is what’s listed on HP for correct graphics driver.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIt's about my old notebook, hp pavilion dv7 1130el bought 5 years ago, it always wokerd fine but now its screen goes black without reasons... at first I thought it might be overheating, but that's totally random:
-sometimes works even when is hot
-sometimes goes blackafter I turn it on and then open google
-sometimes works for a while, when its not hot, and then goes black
I don't have a second monitor to connect it, but even if the screen goes black I can still hear the music from youtube, so I guess it's just the screen.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst of all my laptop is : HP Pavilion dv6-6160se Entertainment Notebook
To the problem now : A few days ago my laptops screen started out of a sudden shutting down/turning black( no lights at all ). This was happening while using the laptop at random. The screen had no lights, and if i use a flashlight on it there is nothing. like its turned off completely.
Before this happens. This behavior varies. Sometimes it flickers from my desktop to a black screen then back on and some times not. Most of the times screen changed to a random color (green mostly) then becomes black/shuts down.
NOTE: The laptop keeps running, i can hear the videos playing so it probably isn't a gpu chip or gpu issue , music and games.
Here are everything i tried and all or the details i could accumulate in past couple of days:
1. If the screen flickers , blacks out and then turns back on i get a message that gpu drivers have stopped working and recovered ( on both amd and intel ).
2. If the screen blacks out, on rare ocasions if you close the laptop lid and let the laptop go to sleep , when waking up screen works again ( noticable due to screen moving)
3. I tried installing 4 different drivers all with clear install. ( didn't work)
4. I tried to to recover system with restore point. ( didn't work)
5. I tried to lower the screen brightness. ( didn't work)
6. tried this trick: Turn off laptop.. Remove battery.. Hold the power button for 30-45 seconds.. Plug-in the charger ( don't put the battery in )Turn on laptop and see if it works.
Very Noticable details:
7. Since on of the rare fixes requires to move the lid i tried shaking the screen a bit or pushing it slightly to different directions. This actually does the trick and turns the screen back on ( i am right now typing this after using this "trick"
So, with this one as a hint there are a couple of stuff i have in mind but i am not sure ...
a) There is a loose LCD cable and when i type a little vibration moves it and ends up in a black screen.
b) I read that if you use a flashlight and you cant see your desktop it means its a bad inverter.
c) Can the inverter have a lose cabe instead of the lcd ?
Currently the screen looks ok ( maybe its the certain angle it has after i moved it. Tried to play a game for a few mins and i got the black screen again. Closed the lid so the laptop goes in sleep mode then opened it and it worked. Just for the records.
Just tried to play a game again. got the blackscreen, shaked the screen a bit and it worked but for the 1st time i get the message " Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" , Can it be that its the GPU after all or maybe drivers?
Tried to play a game again and it seem to trigger the issue . ( i am currently running the laptop with only the intel drivers installed) ...
