Acer TravelMate 8473T :: Installing Windows 8 - Drive Not Supported For Boot
Dec 4, 2014
I replaced a dead HD with an Intel SSD on my TM 8473T. I have the latest BIOS version of 1.23.
I wanted to install a fresh version of windows (via USB) but when I get to the section on creating partitions, I get a "windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the controllers is enabled in the BIOs menu".
The BIOs shows the SDD and the initial setup of widows shows that partitions are created but the install does not continues copying files over.

To start off with one of the main reasons I purchased this product, is the advertisement that its Intel cpu supported wireless display
The product is an Acer V3 111P P16L, it has the Intel N3530 CPU , specification can be found here : " see screenshot for proof)
[URL]
According to the spec in the link , this CPU supports the Wireless Display (AKA WiDi )correct me if I am wrong?
Also I specifically upgraded to a compatible Dual band NIC , the network card installed in the product supports Widi ( Intel Dual Band 7260 NIC)See screen shot below
however when initializing the Widi Update tool , the tool appears to start working then fails

I have Acer Aspire 5742G notebook and I'm having problems installing the Windows 7 OS on my new SSD hard drive (I bought the SSD because the original hard drive is failing and making blue screens all the time...)For the factory restore, I'm using restore discs. I burned the discs few years back when the laptop insisted me of doing it (by using eRecovery or something, 3 dvds total).
The computer tries to install the OS with the dvds (asks to insert a dvd and then press a key). The actual problem is that the installer is just going in loops, restarting and eventually freezing in the end.. Reboot -> Acer logo -> Windows is loading files... -> Starting windows -> Reboot -> etc. That kept going for more than a hour (on the first dvd!) and suddenly it just froze on the "starting windows" screen.. So I had to reboot and star over again.I can still use my old formatted HDD, should I make new set of recovery discs or use an USB drive?

I had to install a new hard drive onto Dell Inspiron 17R (5720, Mid 2012). Ordered new hard drive from Dell, and also Operating System reinstall DVD. Windows was loading, but computer shut down and did not restart. I pressed the power button to restart, but now get 'BOOT MGR is missing' error, and don't know what to do next. I chose 'Custom Installation' and selected the only hard drive that was visible when prompted. Computer will not restart with DVD or without DVD. What now? Windows 7-

I have an acer Travelmate 4070 that will not boot. It is out of warranty so I am trying to trouble shoot. When I turn on the power the cpu fan starts and the harddrive seems to start, then the fan stops and no more sounds from the hard drive. The harddrive light stays on. Does anyone know where to start. I am guessing it is the motherboard, but could just be the hard drive.

So i got hold of an older laptop the other day, the guy told me it had some defects because he couldn't get it to boot.
I got a power adaper/two RAM memorys with it, No harddrives though.
So i power it up and most of the time i just get a black screen and nothing is happening.
But sometimes i get the ACER startscreen saying (press F2 to setup)
[url]
[url]
But when i press F2 it then says (Please wait...)
[url]
And nothing happens.. ive tried several CDs in the CD-drive like Win XP install CD, Hirens Boot CD & Kororaa Live CD - but nothing works its just stuck at "please wait..." and ive waited like 5min.
Thing is also that when i power up the laptop the FAN turns on for some seconds but then it stops same with the CD drive, it reads but then stops.
Ive tried swapping the RAMs i got with the laptop but no luck.
Could this just be that i have no HardDrive in the laptop or is there something else thats faulty like CMOS battery or motherboard?

I killed my BIOS my mistakenly running a BIOS update in WinXP... Power light, power to drives but nothing else.
After much searching I found I might be able to reflash it using a Crisis Recovery Disk, an external USB floppy drive and some combination of key-presses on boot.
Various combinations of this have been tried (FN+ESC, Win+B, Win+Fn, Fn+B....battery in/out, yada, yada, yada) and so the fallback is to use the boot block jumper as per Acer's support information:
[url]
After downloading FRU guides, user guides and service manuals for loads of Acer models, I haven't got one for the 2000 series that helps, though I have managed to get the keyboard off (I understand this is the usual location for boot block jumpers) revealing switch SW5 with 4 DIP switches.
Now what? :-)
I have emailed Acer support but hear less than glowing reports about their responses,
(I believe the motherboard is an Intel MS2154 which is used in TM20**, TM21**, TM25** and TM26** models, and maybe an Aspire one or two)

I have, a.o., a TravelMate2420. Can I let it boot up and/or close down on specific times? It's one of my Acers, the oldest, and I want to use it for monitoring my sunpanels.
That program will start up after boot and close down while closing down the system. The program uses COMports and for datasavings harddiskspace AND a part of the machines memory, so it has to shut down regularly before the machines' memo is full. And then start up clean and so on. Aprox a week of data will do, so a weekly restart of the system would be needed.
If timer doesn't work I can use the local network option. But how?

My hard drive failed on my Inspiron 14z laptop. I ordered an exact replacement and installed it. The computer was purchased 2 1/2 years ago, and I downloaded the operating system on 4 DVDs per Dell instructions. After installing the new hard drive, I am downloading the 1st DVD. I come to a page that asks me to either click on "Restore my computer" or "Factory Recovery - Deletes data & resets all partitions". I click on Factory Recovery, hit next, and a new page comes up saying this application will recover your drive to the factory condition. "Do you confirm?" I click "yes", hit next, and I get yellow triangle with an explanation mark inside and it says "Your hard drive size is not supported for this process. Please use a hard drive at least GB in size.

I'm new to having Dell computers. Today I received a Dell Inspiron 15z 5233 laptop with windows 8 on it. It has a 32 GB SSD and 500 GB hard drive. I can not see the SSD drive in the windows file explorer, nor do I see it in the Disk Management utility from the Control Panel. However, I do see it in the Device Manager as an SSD and another Hard Drive in the Disk Drive section. The SSD driver is up to date. I have not installed any drivers on the computer except for the Serial ATA CY1HK_WN_12.8.0.1016_A03. That was only after I tried to install windows 7 and it said "No Drive Found" when I tried to select a drive to install on.
I googled what could be the problem and saw that it could be a driver issue with the SATA connection. So I got that driver (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) and the SK Hynix Solid State Drive Firmware update. These are the most current on Dells website. This is an older computer, says late 2012. It has an i5 Processor. The SSD is SSDPM830 mSATA in the device manager. Storage Controller: Intel Mobile Express Chipset RAID SATA controller. When I try to save a file, I do not see an SSD drive, there is only one drive, the C: drive which is the 500 GB disk drive. I hope I have supplied enough information to understand the problem.
So I put the drivers on a USB and tried to install windows 7 again, and it still shows No Drive Found, and when I tried to browse for the drivers, they do not appear on the USB. It will show all the folders on the USB, but I can not open the folder they are in. So I put them directly on the USB outside of any folders, and they still do not show up. Also, I changed it to Legacy mode, safe mode off for the boot settings.
I assumed I did not have to install any drivers on windows 8, because it detects everything automatically now days. Should I go ahead and install some drivers on windows 8?

I have an Elitebook 8540w laptop. I wanted to upgrade RAM memory from 2x2GB to 2x4GB. I bought not a kit of 2x4GB as i wanted to, instead I bought two 4GB memory chips from HP.
After replacing the modules the laptop does not boot up.
What has been done:
- Bios Default Restore
My first question is: i realize it is better to buy a kit of 2 matched chips, but is it a must?

I've just run into a major headache with a Travelmate 4404WLMi given to me by a friend. It appears that when he decided to keep the hard drive, he also lost track of the hard drive caddy for the machine.
I haven't had too much luck finding a caddy on eBay. I think part of the problem is, though I was able to find a service manual for the computer, Acer seems to have gotten confused and listed the part number for the TM4000 caddy in the service manual instead of this one. There's a picture right next to it for a caddy that looks entirely different from where the screw holes are on my 4404. The notebook disassembly guide is also all wrong for this unit.
Now, my question is, in the search for caddies on eBay I happened to notice that the one for the Aspire 3610 looks exactly like what I need. Would anyone happen to know if that caddy's the solution to my dilemma?

Laptop still under warranty. I recently had a motherboard and HDD replacement. I wanted to install Windows myself, but the BIOS was set to UEFI, and I couldn't seem to boot off of a USB drive. So I switched it to Legacy, booted from the pendrive, and installed Windows just fine.
For whatever reason, I went back to try and change the setting to UEFI. Now the laptop switches on, but refuses to boot. I get a black screen, with no logo or any prompt whatsoever to access the BIOS.
I read a bit and seems I need to remove the BIOS battery, let the memory clear itself to reset BIOS settings to default, and try again? If it matters, I re-installed Windows 7 64-bit.

I have an HP Pavillion dv6000 notebook with a hard drive that is partitioned. One partition contains the recovery program, which will install Windows XP should I ever need it to do so. I have recently installed Windows 7 on the other partition, and believe it would make sense to install Windows 7 on the recovery partition, so that if it is ever needed, it would reinstall Windows 7 rather than Windows XP. How can I accomplish this?

today I bought a Acer Travelmate B115 (M41 RQ).
I has a rudimentary Linux installed, which I want to delete and then install a Windows7 Prof SP1 64bit from DVD.
After changing the order of the boot devices and putting the USB-DVD drive first the Travelmate tries to boot from the DVD but then tells me 'Security Boot Error'. I tried it more than 10 times, same error each time. The external USB-DVD drive is working fine on another computer.
I also prepared a bootable USB stick, but this one doesn't even get noticed by the Travelmate.

I have a HP Envy 4 - 1046tx Ultrabook and the operating system is Windows 8.1 64-bit. While downgrading to Windows 7 64 bit I was unable to find the hard drives. In the installation screen it showed me "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation.".
I downloaded all the versions (from latest to the oldest) of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers and tried installing them one by one but they didn't work and still the hard drives aren't visible. But if I use a Windows 8 installation disc and install the driver the hard drives are visible.
I need my computer to display the hard drives by default without requiring a SATA driver. How do I do that? My chipset manufacturer is Intel and the model is Ivy Bridge HM77.

I recently got the Windows 7 upgrade kit from Acer in the mail. However, I have the timeline 3810tz (no dvd drive). How did Acer expect us to go about installing this? I know there is a way to put Win7 on a USB but it is tedious. I was wondering if there is any other way besides external dvd drive?
Also, how is the battery life lasting on Win 7? I've read it isn't as long compared to running under Vista. Currently I get anywhere from 6-8 hrs on a full charge.

Okay, so all was working fine until today, my webcam has stopped working, When i boot Dell Webcam Central i get a message at the bottom stating "No supported webcam connected".
Video chats on MSN and facebook do not work, it's like the webcam no longer exists.
I think it was caused by some other webcam software, which i've since uninstalled.
I've tried reinstalling the "Quanta H.264 Integrate Webcam Rev: A00" driver from the resource disk - it did not work.
I've tried to use system restore to restore to a time i KNOW the webcam was working, it did not work.
I was trying to find the executable to reinstall Webcam Central to see if that had any effect, Went to the "Download Factory Installed Software (My Dell Downloads)" section of the website, and i get this message:
Register Your System
Please proceed to register your system by clicking "Register New System". Registration will allow us to display the software entitled for download. You will be automatically registered after your click "allow" on the service tag scanning utility.
I tick the box and click Register System - Nothing happens. It just stays on the same page. I thought this was because i was in Firefox so i tried IE... same problem. Except this time IE has an error on page.
So... i tried emailing dell support... yet ANOTHER error:
Error determining system information. Please try again later.
I try to use the live chat... guess what...! for contacting Dell Chat. We are sorry to inform you that the Chat support is no more available for the product selected. For complex technical query, requiring an immediate response, please contact our technical support phone hotline. For non-complex technical query, please contact Dell technical support by E-mail.
