Wonderful machine I might add, far superior screen saturation, contrast and colour gamut compared to the Sony, but the CPU performance difference is immdediately noticeable (almost similarly specced, the Sony had a 7200 RPM 320GB Seagate HDD, the one in the 8730G is a 320GB RPM WD Blue, and the RAM in the Sony VS 8730G is 800MHz VS 667MHz, also noticeable to me).
I plan to upgrade the RAM and HDD soon enough, no problem, but the main question lies with the CPU...
The T6400
With the latest updated BIOS for the Phoenix based BigBear2 mobo on the 8730G (if the 8930 and 8730 share a similar mobo, AFAIK, the newer 8730 and 8930 all use the PM45 based chipset), I believe it should be able to support even the Core 2 Quad processors (I need this power, I do a lot of Photoshop work, compositing, video editing and 3D rendering).
My biggest fear lies in the TDP, where the Q9100 I'm eyeing has a TDP for 45W, but the Penryn based Txxx0 family of processors has a TDP of 35W.................
i have just purchased a new acer aspire 8730g-6353 and for some reason i cannot connect to the internet wirelessly. i can see the networks available and attempt to connect, but i'm never given the chance to input the WEP key to connect. it gives me an error telling me my troubleshooting options (which just alludes to it being a problem with signal or some garbage like that, but there is 100% signal strength at any given time).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI successfully upgrade an old laptop so that it will run well and not be too costly to upgrade either? So slow at present....
Laptop is:
acer travelmate 4502WLMi running xpsp3
Was thinking that probably the only upgrades worth considering were ram and hdd.
If this is the case what size mem and spec will work?
If the hdd is worth upgrading do I go for internal or external? and what size ?
Purchased my 8920G-8332Q32Bn a few months back and at the time, the GeForce 9650 wasn't available so I settled for the 9500M GS. I find its performance very sluggish and read somewhere that these lappies come with "MXM-II" meaning the GPU's are swappable? Would anyone know of the costs associated and if it's even possible.
I don't know if there's something faulty with my GPU. I installed Microsoft FS9.1 with AF at 4x and AA at 8 and used to average 40fps. Now, under the same settings, same scenery, same amount of scenery, I barely make 15fps. I've tried resetting all settings in FS and the Nvidia Control panel but to no avail. I do notice that the laptop is much much hotter than before.
I know it's possible to upgrade the hard drive in my Acer 5920G, but I've got no idea what type of hard drive to look for, and which will be compatible etc.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI made a purchase to upgrade my cpu to a T9300, today I decided to attempt to upgrade my gpu as I found this on ebay [url] (9600m gt for £109), by the way I am aware of the bios isue and needing a hdmi connection to begin with! but now I thought that seen as I done all this allready that I mayaswell make it a clean sweep and go for a faster hdd whille I'm at it
But what I would like to know is, would I be able to install a new coppy of vista on to my new hdd then install empowering technology and then use the back up image that I have allready created on my external hdd so that I would'nt have to mess around with installing every single one of my programs, apps and games again? as it litteraly takes me about 2-3 days to get it the way I want it (recently took it back tio factory default btw and it was a nightmare lol), or is there a better way to go around it?
i want to upgrade my 5920g-302G16M
currently i have 2gb of RAM, and i want 4GB (if possible) as i find when ever i play games, its really starting to struggle
so really the help i need is,
what RAM do i get?
is it actually possible to have 4gb of RAM in this comp recognised?
i will note that i will probably get some expert tech ppl to fit any upgrade cos i dont want to risk breaking my laptop - but i know that if i go in there they will sell me what ever they have - and it will cost me alot more than if i buy on the net first.
I have an Acer Aspire 5920G with Vista premium 32bit and was wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 (through MSDNAA) but wasn't too sure about it. I take it I can still download all the Acer eNet management etc software as well as everything else that came with my laptop to use in W7?
Has anyone else successfully upgraded their PC and got everything to work?
if the C2D T9600 2.8Ghz chip would work in this laptop, since it is socket P [url] Or would it not work, 'cause it's 45nm?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm looking into upgrading my processor in my 6920G from a T5800 to an T8300. I was wondering if anyone would be as kind to help me with a guide of how to do it (since i don't have much of clue of how to change the processor beyond needing thermal paste and a screwdriver).
View 7 Replies View Relatedhow are folks preparing to upgrade their Acer Timeline to Windows 7? Are you assembling the drivers on Acer's website, or are you content to rely, at least initially, on Windows 7 drivers? For folks who will be upgrading to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, what are you doing about the fact that there seem to be very few drivers and applications currently on Acer's support website?
I keep telling myself that Acer is going to release something, anything, in the next few days giving customers at least some guidance and help on how to get their Timelines fully compatible with Windows 7, but those are probably pipe dreams. So... as folks upgrade to Windows 7 over the coming weeks, it might be helpful to post experiences--good and, in particular, bad--for the benefit of the community.
Assuming I do upgrade to a larger hard drive, any suggestions on the most "painless" way of doing this, considering what is on my current drive?
View 14 Replies View RelatedIt started when I decided to upgrade the memory -- the manual said the laptop would take 2GB, so I bought 2 1GB modules, put them in, but the laptop would only read one of them, no matter how many ways I put it in. So, it was suggested I upgrade the BIOS. I've downloaded the latest, etc, but whenever I boot from the floppy I've got, and the A prompt comes up. Then what? I've been told to "execute the 1.BAT file", but not told how. I've tried typing 1.BAT.exe, to no avail, and was then told to just type in "1.BAT". This also just got me a "Bad command or file name".
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have the Acer Aspire 7520 Laptop with the AMD Turion X2 TK-55 1.8Ghz Socket One.
Using PC Wizard it says I have a Acer Fuquene motherboard and nVidia nForce 560 Chipset. My question is, will this accept any of the AMD Socket One Processors? I was looking at maybe getting a TL-68 2.4Ghz..
I originally bought this computer for my wife so I wasnt too picky on the specs, but now Im finding it more useful than my high powered desktop since I can take it anywhere around the house I want. Only problem is that the laptop just needs a little more grunt for some of the encoding and stuff I do occasionally..
I'm on the verge of upgrading my cpu, but before I do I could do with knowing for sure that this [url] will work in my aspire 6920G.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy 6920G currently has a T9300 which is 2.5ghz on the 800MT/s FSB
Is the best CPU I can fit the T9500?
By my understanding, everything quicker than the T9500 has the 1066MT/s FSB and won't work? Is this correct?
Would you consider the performance increase from T9300 to T9500 worth the money and hassle?
Since I might be benefiting from a 64-bit OS with regards to video encoding and rendering (aka benefiting from more than just 3gb of my 4gb installed ram, or more) I was thinking of a way to convert my 32-bit Vista Home Premium to a 64-bit one.
I came across this blog (might even belong to someone here on the forums ) and I was wondering if this is a legitimate way to acquire a 64-bit Vista using my own keys.. Anybody?
I own a 5672 with the mobility x1400 card. I saw some x1800s online for sale. Is it possible for me to pop one in my laptop and make it work?
My current configuration is working, I'm just trying to up the frame rate a little.
Ive been reading the threads here on NBR, and i think the answers to all my problems lie in a BIOS upgrade.
Im using windows XP and have BIOS version 1.27
I went to acers website [url] to downlaod the bios but there is nothing in the windows xp section, all bios versions are in the vista section.
what now?
can i use the vista bios? also what is the winflasher, is it safe? are there any safer alternatives to it?
I own a Acer 7545g and in October I ordered my Windows 7 and yesterday it finally arrived from Mentor Media.
So I followed the step by step instructions and installed Windows 7 with out any problems and added the drivers.
How ever in device manager next to HD4570 there is a (!) so I think my Laptop was only using the HD3200 card.
I tried getting the drivers from ACER Driver webpage and from ATI radeon and it will not work.
Has any one else having this problem? Any one knows if ACER/ATI plans to release a driver to fix this or have ACER just raped me?
I have now reverted to using Vista Ultimate x32 and every works perfectly, but I would like to use Windows 7
Planning to upgrade my 100 GB (PATA) drive to a larger drive on my Acer TravelMate 8104.
Wondering if one can use the recovery disks to install the XP on the new drive - and if that is possible - what kind of partitions will it make?
Or do I need a copy of a real XP install disk?
Has anyone updated to Western Digital Scorpio 2,5" 250GB 8MB ATA/100 5400RPM?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhile waiting for my new GPU to arrive from Hong Kong, I've been looking at other components on my Acer 9920G.
I currently have two 250GB hard drives (no other details in the manual) I know they are 5400 rpm and wonder if the improvement in performance of a 7200 is worth the cost?
I've just bought 4gb (2x2gb) of RAM from Crucial, but I'm sure that's not nearly enough, so I come to you, notebook gurus.
First things first, my battery is getting old and beginning to fail. I used to max it out on a full charge at 2 hours, but now it's down to about 45 minutes from a full charge using every battery-saving technique I can (while still keeping wireless access available). I think a new battery is in order, but I want to know if I'm stuck with generic replacement batteries, or if any of you can direct me to a nice longer-life one, like a compatible 9-cell? I like to move around my house and library a lot, so battery life is most important.
Secondly, CPU. My model is stuck with a MK-36 2.0ghz CPU (90nm). Now I know this uses the S1 socket that a lot of dual core CPU's use, so I was wondering if it would just be a simple case of updating the BIOS, then switching out for a TL-64 CPU (Also 90nm) or similar.
Is this at all possible, I'm wondering? Or am I stuck with a single-core? I've looked at this thread (linked from these forums), but that looks to be going from a dual core already.
Thirdly and lastly, I was looking at this thread linked from here (can't re-find it though) talking about upgrading the GPU, also talking about MXM. My current GPU is an ATI Radeon Xpress 1100. Is the Aspire 5050's GPU upgradeable at all? I have built all my computers in the past, but I admit I have never tinkered with a notebook before (despite having the necessary tools). Is it possible that I'd be able to shove a better GPU in there?
If there's anything I'm leaving out that you can think might be worth upgrading I'm all ears. My aim is to have the fastest Aspire 5050 I can.
I have an Acer 5720Z with GMA X3100. The BIOS is very basic and there is no way to change the RAM size from there. So I would like to know if there are other ways to change the video RAM size from the default 8mb to the maximum 358mb

This laptop Acer Aspire 5315

with this processor?
Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5Ghz (Socket P)

?
If yes, is it easy? any soldering required or anything?
The first thing to upgrade would be the RAM . The 5050 comes with 1 GB upgradeable to 4 GB. I want to add a GB so it would be 2 GB.
So doI a 1 gb chip and add it in or I have to get two 1 gb chips.
Do i get 553 mhz or 667mhz I have read It doesn't make much difference due to cas latency ( whatever that means )5 for 667 and 4 for 553.
And where is a good place to purchase the chip and what maker is the best?
I have seen videos on how to do this and feel confident I can do it mysef.
Bare with me guys I have a few more question on the hard drive, a flash card and expansion slot.
I have a acer 5920g with a 8600m gs 256mb ddr2. my bios is last version 1.3813 and my vga bios version is nvidia 60.86.54.00.27. The chipset is pm965. The vga is MXMII
I have obtained a 8600m gt 512mb ddr2 from a compal fl90 free. It's MXMII too
I've installed 8600m gt in my acer and when run it only see a black screen. Laptop is runnig but i don't have any image.
I've read somethig about a acer vga bios for the 8600m gt but i don't know what i've to do.
I don't know if i have to install this bios in the 8600m gt in another laptop. There is something patch for this card?
This vga bios is possible to install in any 8600m gt?
I bought one of these Walmart specials in 11/07 and its nice for the price, but very slow. Rather than buy a new laptop, what reasonably priced upgrade options would you recommend, in order of increasing the speed. I don't mind spending another $200 or so to make it fast (if possible?), but don't think I want to invest much more than that.
The laptop is primarily used by me to surf the net and my wife to check her email on yahoo. Her main complaint is that it takes a long time to open each email. Right now it is connected wirelessly through the built-in wireless modem to my Apple Extreme Fast Ethernet, which does 802.11 b, g and n - it's the one that came out two years ago, not the bbrand new one.
