Acer :: Dual Core SU2300 Benchmarks Vs Single Core SU3500 - 1410

Nov 3, 2009

I bought the Acer 1410 with the single core SU3500 Core 2 Solo CPU. It looks like Acer decided to release them with the SU2300 now, which is dual core at 1.2GHz (compared with 1.4GHz of SU3500).

Does anyone have any benchmarks comparing the two, and/or if they have a solid understanding how much better it would perform compared with the SU3500? I also see that the single core AS1410 with Celeron M @ 1.3GHz sells at the same price as the dual core.

also it is always at 17 degrees c, even when I ran the 3dmark cpu test.

Apple :: Core I7 IMacs Showing Up DOA And With Cracked Screens

Nov 24, 2009

[url]

Quote:

Apple's new Core i7-based iMac might be a performance monster, but it looks like the whole family's having some problems getting out of the gate: in addition to the previously-noted performance issues with the Core 2 Duo models, a quick glance across Apple's support forums and on other Mac boards around the web reveals that some machines are showing up DOA and / or with cracked screens. We're a little more familiar with the DOA issue, since the new i7 we just bought doesn't boot at all, but the cracked screen issue seems to be equally common and mostly affecting the bottom left corner, from what we can tell. Now, our review Core 2 Duo 27-inch iMac is perfectly fine, and Chris Ziegler's new Core i7 machine doesn't have any problems either, so these obviously aren't universal issues, but if you're about to stick one of these under the tree for someone it might be wise to do some surreptitious testing first.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was happening during shipping, the box my MBP came in had a big hole in it. (luckily it was double boxed) Maybe they have a problem with their packaging design.

After installing all necessary drivers and Microsoft updates, I am very disappointed with the overall performance.

Is there something unique with dual core processors that I am unaware of? Let me give one example. No matter how many times I run disk defragmenter, my hard drive is still around 40% fragmented.

Dell :: Inspiron 15 : Pentium Dual Core Or Core2Duo ?

Dec 7, 2009

Since she only uses it for office, mail, web browsing and some music with Media player or iTunes, I know the integrated Intel GMA4300 will suffice.

However, I'm not sure about the processor. There are three options, a celeron dual core (which is really low-end, so out of the question), a 2.1 Ghz pentium dual-core (T4300) with 1Mb of cache and a 2.2 ghz core2duo (T6600) with 2Mb of Cache. They all have 4Gb of RAM.

Both the pentium dual core and the core2duo come with Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) so I expect even the dual core can't be that ancient as far as architecture is concerned .....

Dell :: Celeron Or Dual Core For Basic Computing

Oct 8, 2008

I'm shopping for a new laptop to replace a damaged Dell Inspiron 1300. All I would be using the computer for is web surfing, sending and receiving emails and some Quicken. I'm not a gamer nor am I into digital photography. One thing I do know is since the new computer's OS will be some form of Vista I need to make sure that it has at least 2GB of memory, that part I'm certain of based upon so many comments I've read about memory capacity and Vista.

I'm looking at a Dell Inspiron 1525 to replace my 2 year old Inspiron 1300. Dell offers a Celeron processor as the entry level processor on the 1525 and from there you can choose a dual core processor and then several core 2 duo processors. For basic computing needs on a computer having Vista with 2GB of memory would a Celeron processor be enough of a processor for me or should I spend an extra $50.00 USD for the entry level Dual Core processor offered by Dell?

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W530 Ram Upgrade With I7-3520M Dual Core?

Nov 7, 2012

I bought the i7-3520M (dual) and I looked in the manual to see what slots to use for my memory upgrade and the instructions were completely off (where the dummy stick is supposed to be and where it actually was).

I purchased two 8GB (Kingston) sticks to replace the 4GB that came installed.  I took out the original 4GB under the keyboard and replaced it with the new 8GB Kingston.  Everything worked great and I've been using it that way for about a week.

Tonight I decided to go ahead and install the other 8GB.  I assumed it would go in the bottom slot where there's a dummy stick.  I pulled out the dummy and placed my 8GB there.  Turned the laptop on and... nothing.  It wouldn't power on at all.  I took my 8GB out and put the dummy back and it worked fine.  Just to make sure I didn't get a bad stick, I replaced the one under the keyboard with my other 8GB and it worked fine there.  My question is where is my second 8GB supposed to be installed and does that one dummy stick always stay where it is?  It does have a "do not remove" graphic on it, but I thought it was only because the laptop came with one stick and if you were putting two in you would replace it.

Acer :: Upgraded Core Solo T1350 To Core 2 Duo T7200 On Aspire 5570 Guide

Jan 23, 2009

(UPDATES: DIY Bluetooth module guide added below)

upgrading my Aspire 5570 notebook more than a year ago. This time, Iím feeling lucky to share some of my experiences about how I finally upgraded my CPU from a Core Solo T1350Core 2 Duo T7200.

Again, thanks to everybody here in Notebookreview forum especially adinu, hoggie, Mack1982, TehSuigi, krazyphire and bigozone for their insights and knowledge that helps me a lot throughout the whole process. So, letís get started!

Pre-upgrading

Please refer to these post before you start. It'll save you a lot of time and trouble later on.
Upgraded Acer 3680 Celeron CPU to a T5300!
Aspire 5315 CPU Step-by-Step Upgrade Guide

What youíll need :Your new CPU (make sure it's compatible with your system ie; socket, FSB)Latest BIOS from Acer (upgraded to 1.3505 or latest)A good thermal paste (I would recommend Tuniq TX-2 or Arctic Silver 5 as well)Basic tools (screwdrivers, forceps, kitchen paper)Body static discharger (I would definitely recommend this as a precaution)Some alcohol, ear buds, sand paper grid 600,1200 & 2000 (optional for heat sink lapping)Lastly TIME and PATIENCE (youíll be needing these a lot definitely!)When youíre ready, lets get our hands dirty.

How to disassemble your notebook?
I found out a very good video tutorial on how to disassemble my Aspire notebook on YouTube. So please take your time to view it and follow step by step as shown to help you to go through the process.

Lapping your heat sink (optional)
Although itís not necessary, but I would recommend this process as another way to improve heat dissipation on your newly installed CPU. Refer to this page for detailed instructions.

The simple process:Clean your heat sink from old thermal paste residues with alcohol or equivalent of it using ear buds and kitchen papers.Apply a 600-grid sandpaper to smoothen the heat sink surface which comes into contact with your CPU.Repeat the process again with a 1200-gid sand paper until youíre satisfied. Finally, finish up by applying a 2000-grid sand paper to give you an almost mirror-finished surface. Wipe clean any dirt and residues left.....................................

Acer :: Dual Boot Vista And Windows 7

Apr 4, 2009

I have an Acer Aspire 8930G-7665, OEM Windows Vista x64. I want to set it up to dual boot between Vista and Windows 7, hence the thread title. However, I've had nothing but problems since the beginning.

Forgetting all the issues getting it partitioned, which I've done, I can't get the computer to boot off the DVD. This is strange because the same DVD worked fine on a Dell unit previously.

The first hurdle is that I can't get it to present me an option to boot from CD. The workaround is to change the boot order, which I've done. But now when it accesses the DVD drive to read the DVD there, the computer simply stops responding. There's a flashing cursor in the upper left corner of the screen.

Acer :: Guide To Dual Booting Windows And Ubuntu

Mar 16, 2009

how to guide for dual tri or quad boot linux with xp vista or 7 or all 3

Ubuntu is available as a "live" CD, which means that you can use it directly from the CD without installing it. But running an operating system from a CD is slow, to see what Ubuntu can do running at full speed, you need to install it to your hard disk.

The ideal situation would be to install Ubuntu on it's own separate hard disk, but most people don't have two hard drives in their computer, and most people are not prepared to give up Windows. Therefore they have to install Ubuntu along-side Windows on the same hard disk in a dual-boot configuration.

Configuring a dual-boot system involves partitioning your hard disk to make space for Ubuntu. When your computer first starts, it reads information on the first sector of the hard drive which tells it where to find the "boot loader". The boot loader is a file with information about the installed operating systems and how to start them.

The boot loader for Windows is a file named "boot.ini". The boot loader for a Linux system (like Ubuntu) is GRUB (Grand Unified Boot Loader). When you install Ubuntu in a dual-boot system, it redirects the system to use GRUB. When you first start your system, GRUB presents a list of options, including starting Ubuntu or starting Windows. So you'll still be able to use your Windows operating system.

To install Ubuntu, start it with the live CD. To use the live CD, your computer's BIOS must be configured to boot from the CD drive. It's probably already configured that way, but if not, when your computer first starts watch for a message telling you which key to press to access the BIOS setup. Most computers use the F2, F1, Esc, or Del key.........
