Oct 19, 2009i have an aspire 5920G and wish to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro 64bit... but will acer releas drivers for this model seing as though it is fairly old now or will i have to just use the old vista ones?

Jan 15, 2010I have a DV5 1010tx, just over 12 months old. While I appreciate this is now considered an old model, I have found the support from HP in providing updates to drivers & software to be appalling. While I'm happy to locate newer versions myself, I'm sure there are many who haven't the experience to do this. For example, the video drivers provided for Win7 are from 2008, and interestingly are not compatible with HP Media DVD for playing BluRay.
Is this simply laziness on part of HP? I don't expect support for my product forever, but at least 2 or 3 years is reasonable.

Sep 2, 2014I recently upgraded the bios on my Acer Aspire One 725-0670 from version 1 to 1.08. Now I am experiencing blue screen of death intermittently so I would like to rollback to the prior bios version to see if that would resolve the issue.
I went to the Acer drivers website but only the newer 1.08 version is there.
One way I saw on the web to rollback the bios was to disconnect the button cell battery on the motherboard - the writer says that will default the computer to the original bios.
Unfortunately that involves an almost complete disassembly of the computer. Original bios available or some alternate method to get back to bios version 1.

Sep 3, 2009I have a Inspiron 9300 and checked the driver download page for Vista drivers. There are only drivers for XP. Is there a special link to vista drivers for older models?
I read some people were able to install vista and had problems with sound and video. Does this mean that microsoft drivers work for everything else?

Jan 20, 2010I have a strange problem with Win7 (no matter if x86 or x64)...
I have 30Mbit internet connection, so I want to download some bigger files through internet during night.
I have all extra power features disabled (on CPU slowdown and screen dim and off allowed) and after few hours (sometimes 1, sometimes 4), the Windows 7 is in one of the two states:
a) when I move the mouse to wake up screen, only cursor goes up and I must restart notebook
b) when I move the mouse to wake up screen, screen goes up, but NO INTERNET CONNECTION
Must say, that it is the same with WIFI and also ETHERNET and is for sure Win7 problem, as when I install WinXP, everything is fine.

Dec 30, 2009I just got an Aspire One D250 netbook. It runs Win XP SP3, but I can upgrade to Vista or Win7.
Does anybody have the Aspire One with Win7? If so, how does it behave? Should I upgrade my memory? Also, the netbook is equipped with the low end embedded Intel graphics chipset, can it hold Win7 or Vista?

Nov 9, 2009I have a brand new Acer Aspire 5536. It came pre-installed with Vista which I have repalced with Windows 7. I did a clean install, first formatting the hard drive.
The boot process takes 7-10 minutes before the login screen appears. Once logged in the sysrtem appears to be working fine. I have re-instaslled multiple times (using different disks) but no matter what I try it takes an age to boot.
Could my laptop be faulty - does anyone else have Win7 running on one these?

May 13, 2010I have a big issue with my Acer Aspire 5739G laptop that I recently purchased through Ebay. Actually, I bought it from Newegg dba Fred's Fresh Deals. (Newegg sells their returned items and cosmetically damaged goods under this name on Ebay). The laptop was advertised as a possible hard drive issue (it couldn't load windows and the error code looked like a boot sector virus, so I purchased it thinking a simple reformat will fix it).

After I did a fresh reformat of the hard drive and a fresh install of Windows 7, the laptop freezes/locks up after 10-30mins on the desktop. I cannot move the mouse or anything, so I have to do a hard reboot. I don't understand how it is happening.
I updated the mobo's Phoenix driver to the latest one, and tried older VGA Nvidia drivers because I thought it might be a video card driver issue; It is still locking up. I went as far as to purchase a brand new laptop hard drive and the problem still arises. There is no BSOD. As noted earlier, the computer just simply freezes. I cleared CMOS....240M GT VGA is running factory settings....I tried leaving only 1 ram stick in the laptop. I never ran through a problem like this before.
I ran it on Safe Mode and the computer seems to be working fine as long as I do simple tasks or remain idle. I did the SFC /SCANNOW in safe mode and it locks up. I attached my event view file to this email. (I tried to install RivaTuner to underclock factory settings, but the program could not load).

Jul 4, 2009you've probably heard it told to you time and time and time again, that there is no way to upgrade a dedicated GPU on a notebook.
But as an Acer owner, you may very well be among the lucky few who CAN upgrade their GPU, since Acer has used the MXM standard on its notebooks for quite some time now.
(For a primer on what MXM is, go have a look at the best resource online for MXM.)
But if your system came with any Intel GMA, it cannot be upgraded. NO EXCEPTIONS.
This topic will list which notebooks are CONFIRMED to be MXM-capable, as well as what slot they have, and what cards they were originally sold with (consider those safe upgrades). Any successful new-card upgrades will be linked to alongside the model.
A later post will document all the MXM cards that Acer has issued - although it's possible to use cards from other vendors, it's safest and more likely to be compatible if you stick with an Acer issue.............................

Jan 24, 2010Has anyone installed Windows 7 x 64 on your VGN-z540 laptop? I tried nvidia's web site, guru3d, sony etc. but I can't can't find drivers that Windows 7 will accept on my 540 laptop. Every other piece of hardware works including the intel video it natively detected. I can't seem to get it to recognize the nvidia driver. The driver won't install from setup. I can manually try to force it by selecting the device, update drivers, select manually but it says it wasn't the right driver even though it is the 64 bit driver for nvidia and it has the 9300m GS listed many many times in the list.

Drivers and Utilites are from US & EU VAIO Support. All drivers have been extracted to bypass the model version check.
How to Install
To install extract the archive to a folder, e.g C:drivers.Open Device Manager and right click through each device selecting "Update Driver Software". See pic Install_Step_1.jpgSelect "Browse my computer for driver software". See pic Install_Step_2.jpgBrowse to C:Drivers and make sure "Include subfolders" is checked and click Next. If an updated driver is found it will be installed. Don't worry if an updated driver isn't found. Some devices don't need updates.....................

May 9, 2009Driver and Utilites below are from VAIO FTP, US/EU VAIO Support and Intel Download Center. VAIO don't always post the same versions on their EU and US sites and new drivers aren't listed for older models even though they are compatiable. Sony are also slow to make the latest Intel drivers available. All drivers have been extracted to bypass the model version check, usually found on drivers from the US site.
How to Install
Most of the folders only contain the driver and *.inf files. I prefer to install drivers this way to prevent the installation of software I'll never use.

i wanted to install win 7 so i created a new partition with the freespace and sucessfully managed to install win7 on the new partition
But now I'm trying to install the drivers from the europe sony site as pointed out in another thread , but sadly. ikeep getting the battery is not compatible error pointed in this thread
I suspect that the drivers i installed are for win7 business and not win7 ultimate
where do u find the win7 ultimate drivers for this sony vaio ?

Aug 29, 2012I've recently formatted my hard drive and put my own copy of Win7 on my Thinkpad Edge 14 (0579-A62). There's no more recovery partition. After being surprised that Win7 didn't have any built in drivers for the display or WiFi, I plugged an ethernet cable in and went to the Lenovo support site. I tried all of the Networking: WLAN drivers but none of them let wireless work. I installed the Intel PROSet software and it just says "Driver is not installed" so I'm assuming it doesn't have anything to do with the WiFi key on the keyboard.

Than I started a system, I saw a problem with my USB in Device Manager (universal serial bus usb controller and Sm bus controller). As a result USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 didn't work. I spent a lot of time to find different drivers to try solve that problem, but I still have it. Intel usb drivers and and much similary drivers not working with my laptop or did not installing because I have not right system for much of drivers that I found.

Oct 7, 2009Few days ago I tried to update the bios and something went wrong. Now my Timeline 5810T is piece of hi-tech scrap.
I tried many ways to recover bios with Fn+Esc tricks using CD and usb flash with sort of different filenames (BIOS.WPH, jm31x64.fd, ICL50HW.fd, ...), but i'm not happy yet.
It seems, that the old finesses doesn't work with x810 Timeline series with Insyde bios inside. After many hours with uncle Google, it seems that nobody on the planet know the right way.

Sep 21, 2014I have downgraded our HP Pavilion 17-e019dx from Win 8 to Win 7 and I have successfully found most drivers but are unable to find and resolve a few remaining items. Looking for the drivers for the Ethernet Controller, SM Bus Controller and the USB Controller on the left side of the laptop (right side works). I have browsed the blogs and found the same problem and resoltions but they have all been for the AMD chipset and this machine has the Intel Core i3 4000m CPU 64-bit.
