i accidently stored a fully charged battery for almost 3 weeks, but yesterday when i attached it to my laptop, my laptop wont turn on. it is as if it cant supply power. i attached the ac cord to see if it was discharged but it wasnt, even windows recognizes it as fully charged. but again the battery cannot supply power to the laptop
is there anyway to save my battery or do i have to buy a new one
My 2 day old Lenovo Y510P laptop has a problem with charging. I noticed the battery was never going above 60% charged. I left it plugged in for over 24 hours and nothing changed. So I decided to completely drain the battery and used the laptop until it died. With the laptop off I left it plugged in until the battery LED turned white which indicates the battery is fully charged. Unfortunately the battery still shows 60% charged.

I don't know when it started to be like this but I've just noticed recently that the battery shown on desktop is never full charged even when it's plugged in for long hours. Last week it's at 41-42% at maximum but now it never reached more than 39% and it seems to be less and less even though I keep it plugged in every time I use it. I'm worried there's something wrong with battery but it said my battery is still fine, but obviously it's not fine.

The battery indicator in windows (win 7 home premium 64bit), shows the max charge at 88% and the front led stays yellow for a long time when plugged in (over 12 hrs) before finally just turning off instead of going to blue to indicate a full charge.

When I am running the computer I have it charged with the Optimised Battery Health option, so, less than 60% is charged all the time, and I have never removed the adapter if I am using it. But, when I went to sleep I removed the adapter from the laptop.
What happened: Today finally I am taking it out for a breath and it lasts for only an hour!!!!
What was on: I was using it to do some research online only. So technically only wifi was on - not even bluetooth or video or music play. I only ran Chrome, a dictionary software, and my Dropbox. Well, I actually turned the screen into very bright, which was full brightness minus two presses of F11 (to decrease the brightness).
Would it be a cause of upgrading to WINDOWS 8.1?! (like upgrade to iOS 7 on an Apple phone: running latest iOS consumes lots more battery capacity in older iPhone..)
Battery of Dell(inspiron 15R N5110) isn't charged, although it is installed well and the computer is plugged inEven if it were corrupted, then it would have charged.
If you see the screenshot, you will see that the laptop is working on the main power supply, and battery is empty, but it isn't charging. I am sure that it is installed well.

I kept it at 40-50% most of the time by changing battery threshold. Total cycle count was about 80 (84 now) first use date 2013-03.
On Saturday I tried to run a "discharge-charge-discharge-charge" cycle (by watching some movies) to reset the gauge of my battery. During 2nd discharge my laptop hibernated due to low charge much earlier than expected, when I turned it on it showed that the max capacity is 28 Wh and the battery is in the "poor" condition.
I tried to perform automatic gauge reset but didn't get much (29 Wh). I updated power manager and performed another automatic reset which failed too.
So I tried to make a manual reset and left my laptop paying a movie for a night. On Monday I plugged my AC adapter in but found out that the battery won't charge: "a battery error has occurred the battery cannot be charged".
I cleared residual capacitance by pushing the power button several times and reset the BIOS to defaults but got nothing.
If this problem can't be sold I would like to know the reason of it to avoid such things in the future. While googling this forum I met contradictory opinions on battery reset: ones say that it's extremely harmful because battery "doesn't like" to be discharged to 0%, others say its harmless.
I bought a new Lenovo Z580 this past June. Shortly after I began using it, a system message popped up explaining to me that since I often have my laptop plugged in, it would conserve battery life if I let the system change my settings so that the battery didn't fully charge -- this would save battery life over the longterm and I would be free to change the setting whenever I wanted to. Well, this has been the biggest mistake ever. I now essentially have a desktop because I cannot find any setting that allows me to change the battery to fully charge (it only charges to 40 or 50%). There isn't any mention of this feature in the user guide materials that I can find and none of the Power Options allow me to change the battery charge capacity.

Stops when on battery and other non acer charger does not produce the effect.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI thought I would never have to write on these forums again about my troubles with dell. About a year ago to the date my M1710 died on me. I was given an M1730 as a replacement which took 2 months to recieve. It's been working fine till about two weeks ago. Turned it on. Stayed at a black screen.
Called Dell. Made me unscrew the back and try some dignostics. Sent me a new motherboard and memory modules last Monday. Tech came and replaced both. Turned on the machine to find it still doesn't work. He called in for a new LCD panel, bezel, screws, another motherboard to be sure and a new gpu.
Late last week I got an automated message saying one of my part(the dual 8800mgtx sli card is backlogged till October 5th...) Spoke to several techs and supervisors. One made a service request and guaranteed the gpu to come within 3-5 business days. Never recieved a call back and when I called them again, they told me OCT. 5th or later now...... The tech offered me a system replacement of a XPS Studio 16.
I reminded him that is not equal or better. I said I have a gaming laptop now and I want the next best thing since you stopped producing the M1730. I told him that the Alienware M17x is a fair replacement and I got the whole BS about how they are not authorized and stuff. I am in College and it has been two weeks already without a computer. I have had this M1730 for less than a year....... Truly pathetic.
I will check the status tomm but if nothings changed, I will have to take it up a notch with Mohammed at Dell..... My specs are M1730. 2.4ghz, 2 gigs ram, 120gb hd, dual sli 8800m gtx 1gb. Any advice would be great. I have a 4 yr. complete care warranty fyi. In it's last year.
I am very happy with my new Acer 1810TZ. I have installed all my favourite software and set it up exactly how I want it. I split the drive in two, so I have a C drive with Windows 7 and all the software, and no data. All my data is on D: and that drive is not an issue, I have no trouble backing up my data.
I now want to do a reliable backup of the system that will cover two situations:
1. Drive C gets corrupted somehow. Unlikely but I want to be able to simply put back Windows and all the software as it is now.
2. Hard disk fails. I put in a new one and want to set up drive C exactly as it is now.
I use Acronis and I know with a desktop how to so this. I simply use Acronis to make a file containing the C drive, and store it on a big USB drive. If the worst happens I can use the Acronis boot disk and put drive C back.
But the Acer has a complication. The drive starts with a 12 GB recovery partition, followed by a 100MB partition. In my case 1 above, it is easy, I simply restore my backup over C: and all is OK.
But what about case 2, where I have a new drive. I don't really need the recovery partition, but I suspect that if I use the simplest method, and simply restore drive C: as the first partition, it may not work, i.e. not boot? (method A)
Should I make partition backups of the two hidden partitions and then restore those as well as C:? (method B)
Would either method work? Most importantly would the machine boot? What else should I be doing? I'm sure many people muct have tackled this since Acer machines seem to work this way? Please tell me what is the recommended solution? Are you using Acronis?
I bought an Aspire R13 recently and noticed the spacebar wasn't backlit. Is that normal?
Also, am I the only one who is able to hear the backlight's high pitched PWM when it's fully on?
Just bought this laptop. When I press the power button, the blue light comes on but not the screen. I'm able to charge my phone but that's it. I have to turn the laptop on and off several times before the screen comes on.

When you reinstall Windows, you don't need to enter the serial key because the laptop has the key linked to it. Where though? I read it's in the BIOS but isn't the BIOS part of the motherboard?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Bluetooth keyboard goes to sleep after a period of idle and it takes 15 seconds for the Acer Aspire 1810T to wake up and notice the Bluetooth keypresses.
However, I found out my Bluetooth keyboard works reliably when I have a second Bluetooth device connected and active at the time (such as either a headset or bluetooth tethering to a cellphone as modem), the computer doesn't have a 15 second lag in noticing the Bluetooth keyboard again - the keyboard works almost right away even after being unused for sometime.
So that means the culprit is in the power management on the Acer Bluetooth module. Is there a way to force the Bluetooth module to never go to sleep? Any checkbox somewhere, a register setting? Even going as far to purchase a different Bluetooth driver? Or any other option? Sometimes the sleep is useful, but it definitely isn't useful with the Bluetooth keyboard. This problem does not happen if I use an external Bluetooth dongle.
(With BatteryBar Pro, I notice that power consumption falls suddenly whenever the Bluetooth module goes to sleep when the keyboard goes idle for more than 30 seconds, and at this point, it has difficulty 'waking up' when I start typing on the Bluetooth keyboard. But the problem also still happens when the laptop is plugged in!)
