I am using a BIOS version since 02/02/2007 (of Phoenix). Before installing a Core 2 Duo CPU, do I have to update BIOS?
I have a notebook with a Core Duo 1.73 Ghz, chipset 945gm (heard from other member that it has Napa Platform).
Laptop experienced random and very frequent BSODs after an automatic Norton update. Tried everything but only removing Norton stopped the problem. Removed Norton several months ago without even one recurrence of the problem so reasonably certain the cause was the Norton. Myy question is what antivirus program is known to run reliably on the HP g7? Currently don't have one installed because I don't know wht will run.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI used boot camp a few days ago without having my vista ultimate yet and I partitioned the hardrive in half then this morning I tried installing windows as said in this forum as to use the assistant in boot camp and I got to the part where it said where would you like to install the OS, they gave 4 different options and only one would have been enough space to put a partition so I figured I could delete the other partitions and see but now it left me with only 1 full HD , the other problem with this is the CD won't eject and keeps wanting to install the windows on the full partition , anyone know how to eject the cd any commands ? so maybe I could boot back to OSX

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just replaced a failed hard drive on someone's iBook G4 and am now trying to install the operating system. I have the two CD's called "iBook G4 software install and restore." Using them, things go fine until it is time to "select a destination volume," where it doesn't show any volume to select. Running the apple hardware test off the cd shows that it detects the new hard drive, which is OK, and all the other hardware is OK too. So, what to check next? New hard drive is a seagate momentus 5400.3 ST9120822A.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am installing the oem version of vista home premium 64 bit on my brand new macbook pro. I use bootcamp assistant to create a 60gig partition, insert my vista cd to start the install, use advanced options to let vista convert format to ntfs.
I followed the steps/guide exactly and everything goes fine. The system goes through installation but when does its first reboot and comes back to the install screen it errors on the step that says completing installation. It remains on the completing installation step for a few minutes and then an error comes up the says "Windows cannot configure one or more system components. To install windows restart the computer and restart the installation."

View 3 Replies View Relatedabout installing a SSD drive in a Mac but I have a couple of questions.
Is a clean install really nessasary? I know Windows computers come with lots of bloatware but do Macs?
Do I have to install drivers?
Do SSD's and Mac's play nice together?
For someone with average computer abilties is replacing the hard drive doable?
I have this problem. I had the x64 version of Vista running on my Macbook Pro and I just started to hate all the stuttering because of the wireless driver (which nobody can resolve), so I decided to put back my good-old trusty XP Pro 32bit. (I still have that CD all dusted somewhere around here).
So I wiped my Boot Camp partition, made another one (with the Assistant), and put in the XP CD, the computer restarted, it loaded up Windows Setup, copied all the files (in text mode) and then when the computer restarts and boots off the new partition, I get the:
"Disk Boot Error,
Press any key to restart..."
And of course the system freezes. I have to hold down the power button and shut down my Mac.
Now as far as I can figure this out, I think something messed with my mbr or something, because this only happens with the XP disc. Vista would want to install just fine and dandy.............
I have 3 old games that run super fast in XP, and I've read that a common fix seems to be running in Uniprocessor mode. XP only installs the ACPI Multiprocessor driver, and I can't change it. I can only select ACPI Multiprocessor, or Standard PC, and when I changed it to Standard PC I lost my keyboard and mouse (and subsequently had to reinstall XP).
Is there any way to either tell Bootcamp to disable one core, or to install XP with the Uniprocessor driver?
I'm running the early 2009 white macbook, and XP Home SP3.
I have a new unibody Macbook Pro 15 inch and after playing with it for a month and having XP in parallel only, I decided to install Vista Ultimate through boot camp so that I'll be able to play games on my macbook. Now here's the problem...
After I load up the boot camp assistant and I proceed to install Windows, the laptop restarts and goes to the Vista installation screen. I set up the region codes and language that I prefer and I hit next. Now, I finally hit the big "Install Now" button in the middle. After clicking on this button though, I hit my error:
Required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing.
My dvd drive is the Matsua DVD-R UJ-868
My IDE controller is the 82801BA Ultra ATA Storage Controller 244B
Also, no, I do not have an external DVD drive and so loading up another CD with the drivers is out of the question.
I have to swap out the current hard drive on my old Power Mac G5 because it's become unreadable. I've decided on the hard drive to replace it, but I have no idea how to go about installing the operating system. Moreover, my Power Mac G5 came with 10.3.5 Tiger, so is it safe to upgrade to Leopard even if I have older components?

I would really want to hear from those that has performed such replacement operation and perhaps give me some tips and what i may need to watch out for. in addition to that, does anybody know of a guide for this replacement? would the penryn top case keyboard and trackpad connections fit the SR MBP? any modifications needed?

This is installing on a fresh new Macbook pro 13.
Normally when I shut power off my MacBook Pro, it takes about 4-5 seconds and then its off. Since I installed VMware Fusion yesterday, it takes about 1 minute to power off. What is going on? I read somewhere that when you quit a virtual machine you need to choose "kill all" to stop any background processes. How do I do this or is this just normal.

I downloaded and installed a firmware critical update for the fan functioning. It was for OS Tiger
Now my fans I never hear come on and the bottom near or above the battery and the top above the keyboard get hot. I would say hot because I touch it and it is amazing something does not burn. I would definitely think plastic if left there for a while it would start to bend.
I know the downloads are on apple/support but I will just damage it more. has anybody heard of this, did anybody download this update? It said what it was before it started downloaded it.
it is indeed handy to have coolbook on the menu bar and it shows that at the time when temperature went up to 80~90; the cpu was running at full speed.
at the task i was running where i underclock down to even 800mhz things were fine, but it just shot up to 2.5k ghz for no reason.
and after locking at the range of 800-1600, the temperature did indeed dropped to a more desirable temperature of 60 but still sticked to the upper limit at 1600 w/out reason.
all temperatures stated are Celsius.
there weren't any cpu intensive tasks running either; once again, i turned off everything after seeing the temperature went up.
since it has nothing to do with the GPU(every unibody mac user love to say this, but no, not the gpu this time.
for those who didn't know what happened prior; my macbook pro loves heat and more so reaching 80~90 w/out reason. venting is clean enough there is no visible dust gathered, it had been used with a cooler at home so it wouldn't be the entrapment from desktop material either.
