Apple :: MBP - Portable Speakers
Aug 8, 2009
I will be traveling abroad for a couple of months and I will be listening to music obviously. I would like to find a good set of speakers that I could attach to my MPB.
Initially I was looking for an iPod dock/alarm clock, that would also have an audio in that I could attach my MPB to and have that work but I don't think they make those. So I would like to find some good speakers instead.

I have a 250GB WD portable hard drive. I would like to encrypt all the data on it or password protect the hard drive. It is suppose to come with the software for this but I can't find anything on it that works with my mac. All the utilities and tools that came on it appear to be for windows. Does anyone know if I can get OSX compatible software for this or if there is an easy download that will do this for me?

Anything better than this, or should I just take the plunge?

I just need it for SD cards and Sony Memory Sticks and whatever else. More slots would be nice but I'd like it to be pretty portable.

I can't seem to get the internal speaker for my macbook pro (core 2 duo, 15", 2.16GHz) to work. When I use headphones, it works but when I take the headphones out of the jack, there's a red light coming from my headphone jack and my speakers won't put out any sound.

Anyone using these speakers on your Mac?
They are USB speakers and Logitech does not make drivers for them for OS X. Thus, they do not work properly. I can not adjust Bass or Treble, and the Volume adjustment isn't vary good (can't get it vary low). I have been dealing with Logitech support and they said they should work with OS X's drivers. Welllll they don't, after multiple emails back and forth they said to check to see if my audio drivers are up to date. Witch I am pretty sure they are. They directed me to this link [url] and I can't even find audio drivers there.
So anyone use these speakers on your Mac? Or anyone have a clue what to do. Since logitech support is not vary good.

have you ever noticed, sometimes, a kind of popping noise coming from macbook speakers (I have the alu one) when you are launching a program that will require the use of speakers? (never happened in itunes, it occurred only when launching quick time videos or some videos / music from the web...)
As said before, it is not always occurring but it happens only sometimes. Is it maybe linked to the osx putting speakers in standby when not needeed for a while (it happens also with electrical supply) ? I read something on the net about a drawback for this behavior inside leopard, but is it really the case?
Moreover, this 'popping noise' intensity is constant whatever the preset volume of the speakers is, and, up to now, I have never heard it with the speakers set off.

I've a Vaio TT that I'm (or was) fairly happy with, and before that I had the TX and the TZ.
I would however like to replace the TT since the Blu-ray has stopped working for the second time and I just refuse to pay an insane amount of $ to have it fixed. The question is, - Replace it with what?
I want an ultra-portable, i.e. 12" or smaller screen, weight less than 3 lbs, and it must have Blu-ray and SSD. Where can I find one

I am looking to buy an Aspire One 10.1" netbook and would like to get a good protable/slim USB DVD drive to use with it. Can anyone recommend a good one, and preferably one that doesn't cost more than the netbook itself?
Also, I'd like to know if there is one that also have blue ray.

I currently have a Sony Vaio Z540 -- 13.3" non-glossy display at 1366x768 and a weight of around 3.4 lbs.
Easily carried, that thing.
I, however, wouldn't mind a 15.4" / 16" notebook. For those of you with XPS 16 machines: is your laptop really that portable? The thing weighs 6.4 lbs with the standard battery, from what I understand. Think universities and the usual study places as well as at home.

Whenever i connect my samsung 1TB portable Hard drive on a Dell xps 15inch laptop running windows 8 pro, it completely freezes the whole system. i can move the mouse but i cant click anything or go to task manager using ctrl alt del.
These are the things i have tried:
tried different cables
tried different usb ports
Removed usb drivers
Checked event logs (the laptop crashes when i launch the event logs)
Ran CCleaner cleaning registry
All the above did not work. I even tried to roll back to a previous restore point and that did not work either.I tested the hard drive on my brother in law's laptop and it worked fine. it is a acer laptop running fresh copy of windows 7.Is this a windows 7 error? do i have a virus maybe?(i am going to do a full system scan soon)What other things can i try?

Are the speakers considered kind of low grade compared to the rest of the computer? or could it just have been someone in the family that had the music up to loud for a extended period of time?

Is it just me, or are the speakers on the SXPS13 very, very quiet? The max volume is on this thing is inadequate. I'm forced to use headphones.
Has anyone else had a problem with this? Is there anything to be done about it?

I'm thinking about getting one... but after browsing the internet a bit, I see some people saying that the speakers are absolutely hideous. I understand that sometimes only the people experiencing a problem speak up, and that might give me an unfairly bad impression of the speakers.
So I'm asking here. How are the Studio 15 speakers? I know that notebook speakers are usually not great, but how do they compare to the middle-of-the-road average notebook speakers?
How do those new LED screens they're offering on the Studio 15s look?)

I was speaker shopping for my Z and wanted something a bit high-end that would match the Z in performance, but not too much in the sens of a 5.1 unit as I already have one of those in my living room. That's why I decided to keep to 2.1 systems.
I came across great deal, the Cambridge Sound Works Extreme 2: [url]
LOTS and Lots of power, but great price. I think I will order these this week.
I did have the 5.1 version of this in the past, so highly recommended.
So, I was wondering, what speakers do you use with your VAIO?

I just put in a DVD to test the speakers sound quality and noticed the sound is very low. Even when turned up via the touch controls the audio is barely audible (hardly one of the best laptop audios). Am I missing something, or did I get a bad apple?

the speakers sound blown out at anything above minimal volume. i don't need them for music, only watching tv shows or short internet clips. there's what i guess you'd call a rattle when anyone is talking. i just want to know if there's any options i can set from the IDT audio control panel as well as specific EQ functions on playback programs like winamp or media player classic to help solve this. isn't getting outside speakers or headphones.

Anyone have issues with these speakers lately. Mine just got back from hp repair and the speakers seem to be no better than before. Tons of static when playing music, tons of static. Most songs are downright terrible, even at lower volume.

If not i guess i'll have to buy new altec ones.
