I have a macbook pro running 10.6, 4 gb ram, c2d @ 3.06 ghz and 320 gb hdd. I have a bootcamp partition running windows 7. My problem is that randomly during the day i will get the beachball for about 10 seconds and it freezes up my computer.

I have a late 2008 unibody 2.53 MBP and i installed windows 7 RC on my machine with laptopvideo2go drivers and i'm geting random freezing when i am just browsing the web in firefox. I can't tell if it's a driver that's causing the issue. I notice in the action center that it's recommending me install new chipset drivers from nvidia but i haven't installed it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedLast night, my Macbook Pro froze on me while I was running Windows XP on VMWare Fusion, so I forced shutdown by holding the power button for five seconds.
Ever since, I have not been able to boot the OS at startup. The Apple logo shows up, then the status dial thingy below, and then a grey "curtain" comes down with a "You need to restart your computer" message in multiple languages.
The problem is, it freezes at that point, and it won't let me restart. So I have to force shutdown again by holding down the power button, and the problem repeats.
Sometimes when I try to reboot, it freezes as the grey "curtain" is coming down and before the "You need to restart your computer" message even shows up, so I don't know what is going on.
My Dell Studio 15 is only about 3 months old and I have been having this problem for the last month now.
Every couple of days or so my laptop lockups - the cursor sticks and there's nothing I can do other than power it off and boot it back up and then its fine for the next couple of days.
This is random... sometimes it happens when doing something intensive, sometimes it happens when its just sitting idle on the desktop after it has only been switched on for about 5 mins
my Vaio Z is only a week old and I've started to notice random system freezes/stutters when I'm just writing a document, chatting on msn, browsing the web and even some light gaming (Warcraft 3). The freeze is only for a few secs, but during the freeze, my music would stop playing, my cursor would stop moving, my video would stop playing etc. etc. This happens more often when I'm playing warcraft where the entire game just freezes for several seconds (although not lagging in the game, drop box doesn't appear for other players),
I have a theory its the CPU downclocking or upclocking which may be the cause or an issue with the SSD?

4gb RAM
Windows 7 Pro-64
192gb SSD
Premium Carbon
and everything else that comes standard with the Z.
I have a new HDX16, vista 64bit, 4gb ram, 5400 rpm HDD, 2.0 p7350, with 1g of 130M. It's new, installed updates and all. I noticed sometimes working, HDD going really crazy, and computer freezes for few seconds, miniseconds even but it's noticable and annoying, especially considering the power of the laptop. Sometimes happens even while watching movie, or listenning to music.

My notebook randomly freeze in different situation without any cloue, running a game or also just in windows folders and only solution is reboot whole system. I have try to recovery to factory configuration but nothing have changed.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-417SA Notebook PC operating on Windows 7 Home Premium. The laptop freezes at random times, sometimes minutes into use or an hour into use. It is not caused by clicking a certain program or file. I suspect freeze issue maybe caused by hardware failure, possibly the HDD.
Here's a few observations of the laptop and the things I've tried to diagnose or fix it. During a typical hang the HDD LED light is constantly lit. Have also had both blue screen and black screen freeze. No error messages. Hard drive gets very hot. Entered BIOS and run both Primary Hard Disk Self-Test and Memory Test using InsydeH20 Setup Utility but it passed both.Laptop has been fully reset to factory settings so it can't be because of high CPU usage.
While idle the CPU usage is usually in the range of 13%-25%, with a rare spike of 53%The hard drive is a Western digital Scorpio Black 2.5" 320GB SATA. The laptop is unused so wiping it back to original settings wasn't an issue but I would like to get it back to a useable standard.

I was away to eat for around half an hour, and I came back to a popup with the title containing 'InsydeFlash'. It seems as though it's a BIOS flashing utility, which I've heard is never good, unless it's official from Windows. I don't remember installing it, and I don't know if it's an official Windows utility. It claims to want to update the BIOS. I cancelled it safely, and it seems to be gone (I ran tasklist on the command line, but found nothing out of the ordinary). My question is, if it appears again, do I run it, or is it probably an attack?
I own an inspiron 1545 which works properly for the most part, except for a small, but annoying problem. Sometimes, when I type, instead of characters or numbers appearing on the screen, the computer would perform random tasks like try to open a file when I press O (and I am not holding down the Ctrl key), save my work when I press S (again, no Ctrl key), and change my typing language. It used to run on Vista, and was recently upgraded to 7, but the problem persists.
For example, typing the word 'frustration' would sometimes lead to this:

It's especially annoying when it changes the typing language mid-sentence.
I just bought a new HP 15-r011dx Notebook with Windows 8.1 OS. It is running great except for when I try to watch videos. When the video buffers, the entire computer freezes, and the computer makes loud noises-like it is stuttering/chopping. It makes videos unviewable because of how often it happens. This problem happens on both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. In addition, my internet connection is fine and I have installed all updates.

The screen is not black and I can still move the mouse but I can't press on any icons or do anything. View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had my laptop for a little bit under 2 months, so these are the things I have noticed.
Issue number 1: When you plug in the power cord into the computer, the screen freezes on what it is currently on. I noticed this issue because occasionally when I plug in my power cord, and try to use the mousepad to select something, the mouse pointer is gone! I have to unplug-replug the power cable to get the mouse pointer to show again. It seems to have to do with the screen
Issue number 2: when I carry my E7440 around in my bad, or have it shut for long periods of time >3 hours (I just simply close the lid), the computer will SHUT DOWN. The thing will shut down completly, even though I simply closed the lid! At first I thought it was just going into hibernate, so I disabled hibernate in my power settings. But nope, even when the computer is asleep, it will occasionally shut it self down for no reason at all.
Just now, I closed the lid on my laptop, and put in in my bag, then walked to my office about 10 minutes away. When I sat down at my desk and opened my laptop, to my surprise, it had shut down by itself! All of my open windows, browsers, and applications were closed, and upon opening chrome and microsoft word, I was greeted by "your browser did not shut down correctly" and "microsoft word has recovered files". This points to the conclusion that it was not hibernates fault, but instead a issue with the laptop itself shutting down when it is put in sleep. This issue needs to be rectified immediately if it is a widespread issue.
Issue number three: When the computer comes back from hibernate or sleep, the computer is very very sluggish, even when plugged in. It is sluggish forever, OR until the power plan is set from whatever it is to "high performance". upon switching to the previous powerplan from high performance, the swiftness of the system is restored. This indicates to me that the system is throttling itself after it resumes from hibernation, why. This needs to be fixed; many people (myself included) just thought that the system itself was slow and underpowered, not realizing that it was just throttling itself when it emerged from sleep or hibernate.
I'm running i7 inspiron with windows 7 64 bit.
When i start computer on battery and then connect external power it freezes.
I can't click anything.
I have all the drivers installed.
Sometimes the laptop when started wont go past the blue screens. Also sometimes it wont turnoff. I suspect it might be because of usb devices, but even still i get the problem. It's really annoying because MBP is supposed to be a flawless device.

SO now i say bye bye vista and Hello xp. What are your experiences on xp? Does the machine get as hot as on vista? 65-74c while surfing on the net and listening to music? Reason i ask is some people have more then one computer and some people just have one.
I'm just wondering if the Vaio Z Series laptop is a good choice as a main computer since it's got good specs and it's nicely portable but will the 13 inch screen be ok to use for long periods even at the higher 1600 x 900 resolution?
I got a new computer and I transfered my iTunes library already and sync'd my iPod to my new computer. I was wondering if there is a way I can get the playlists and ratings from my old computer to my new one.
I already tried this but it didn't quite work out as advertised for me. Is there a quick, easy way to get just the playlists and ratings over to my new computer?
I'm thinking on using my MBA as my main computer, therefore I'm considering buying the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and the Mighty Mouse and hooking up to my HP Monitor for when I'm at my desk for long periods.
It's very easy to hook up ... this MBA seems quick enough and a usb hub can be added if need be ... why not use it as a main pc?
Further, the only windows app I'm really going to miss is Publisher, I'm thinking on being daring and installing Vista on the Mac with Bootcamp and then run Publisher in Windows. If that worked well I could get rid of the T500... (I have a desktop I could use for heavier app's, movie/music downloading) ...
Seems like a lot of work for such a small little machine, lol, can it handle it? Has anyone there done this before with success?
I think something similar has been posted here before. In essence, I find that when I use my VX Revolution (or is it MX? Whichever one is the mobile version), the mouse occasionally loses its wireless connection to the computer, and so I have to click multiple times to get it to register.
This is annoying enough for me to consider getting a wired mouse, but I want to know if I get something like an MX518 if I'm still going to run into the disconnect/lag issue.
In other words, is it a wireless issue or a Logitech/PC/Mac conflict issue? I experienced both with and without the Logitech software installed. The software is currently installed.
Lately I have been getting random lockups, with no notable cause. It more often than not is right after i get into windows and try to open something, but occasionally (over the more occasionally that it happens) it is not.
Today i got a lockup, followed by a BSOD on restart (and i diddnt have time to read the bsod)
i been having lag drops in games like COD4 and GTAIV,etc even on a notebook cooler first the games been running smooth and then its drop to like 5 FPS for like 15 sec and back to normal again and i know my vents are clean and the temps when playing games is in the low 80Cs without undervolting and with undervolting its in the upper 70Cs but one question is im getting these lag random drops because of lack of RAM and will a RAM upgrade to 3gb or higher will help my problem?
GTAIV is very playable on a HD3450 and you can see youtube vids of people with a DV5z with a HD3200 playing it with no lags
My Dell XPS 1645 [see sig for specs] will random shut off on me. I will be doing anything from watching a movie, listening to music, or just browsing and it will random shut off. They are like days apart but It shut off 3 times on my today :S.
These shut offs are not Temperature related as In BOTH Windows and Ubuntu it has shut off and I have been monitoring temperature in both, with log files so I can check the temperature @ shut off time.
I live in Jamaica and it would be kind of hard for me to just send it in to have it looked at. I'm hoping the next BIOS revision along with fresh installs of both OS's will do the trick.
My temperature at webbrowsing and idling is usually 36 degrees with my Zalman2000 at Balanced battery seeting.
However, sometimes, sporadically, the cpu temps go up to 63 for a real quick moment (a second or less) and comes back to the late 30's. Normal?
I fired up Call of Duty 4 for some online gaming whilst at the parentals house, all well and good.
Then after a few (maybe even one) minutes gaming, PING, and the laptop shuts off.
Strange I thought, as this has never happened to me before. The first things that ran through my mind were the graphics card had overheated and caused the system to automatically shut down. Although this has never happened to me personally before, I have heard of other people having this problem, and since I overclock, I reasoned this could well be the case.
