Apple :: MBP - Dual Monitor Running Bootcamp
Oct 19, 2009I'm running Windows XP (32 bit) on Bootcamp on my 2008 MBP with nvidia 8600m GT graphichs card. I cannot select my external monitor to be the primary monitor because it's grayed-out (I can't select it where it says 'use this monitor as my primary monitor').
I just went onto nvidia's website and downloaded the latest drivers and installed them. No difference. Anyone know how I can achieve this?
Apple :: Macbook - Battery Running Low - All Of The Sudden Went Blank And Shut Itself Off
Jan 23, 2009I recently got the Macbook for Christmas and it has been giving me no problems until last night. I was watching a video on it and I had it plugged in, as the battery was running low, when it all of the sudden went blank and shut itself off. I thought that maybe the battery had died for some strange reason, since it had not been in its charger long, went on my other computer and dismissed the situation until this morning.
When I unplugged it, checked the battery life (it was full, by the way, 8 green lights came on) and then tried to turn it on, nothing happened. I held down the button for a long time and still, nothing. I tried plugging it back in and turning it on, still nothing.
I got the manuel out and tried the Command, P, R and Power button thing, which made the laptop make a small noise. Then I tried once again to turn it on, but the screen just went to a lighter gray and nothing happened. When I pushed it again, it went dark. I tried removing the battery and putting it back in, but it still did the same, and I even tried holding down the power button for five seconds while the battery was out. Still nothing.

Feb 20, 2010On my Black Macbook is it when it is charging the screen feels different than when it is running on the battery. For example, when it is charging and I run my finger along the screen there is more resistance and it is not as smooth as when it is running on the battery. Is this normal?

HP/Compaq :: Enable Input Monitor On Pavilion Dv7t Running Vista
Feb 10, 2009I have a Pavilion dv7t laptop running Vista. One of the main reasons I bought this was to do audio work in Sony Acid Music and Sony Sound Forge. Well, lo and behold, I can't hear my mic input. I can record audio in using the mic input, but I can't monitor the input as I am using it to know whether it is too loud, too quiet, I am too close to the mic, too far away, etc.
I have done a lot of research on this via google searches and have found that most people solved this (on other laptops or other computers running Vista) by changing the input monitor setting (to enable it) within the windows registry. I dug all through various locations in my reg files and can't find anything on an HP Pavilion dv7t running Vista that corresponds with an input monitor setting.
This is a huge source of frustration. If anyone can let me know how to enable this, I would appreciate it. It's not a matter of right clicking on the speaker in the windows tray and changing anything on playback devices or recording devices. I have tried every possible combination of that and it doesn't work. This is something that needs to be fixed at a root level.
Why HP or Microsoft has this set as a default setting so you can't even monitor your input volume is beyond me.
Dell :: XPS M1530: Kensington SD100S Laptop Docking StationSafe To Unplug From Docking Station And Monitor While Booted Up And Running?
May 4, 2009I have an XPS M1530 running Vista Home Premium 64-bit, T-9300 Processor, 6 gig RAM, 320 gig 7200-rpm harddrive. I am using it with the Kensington SD100S Laptop Docking Station (with stand) and a 22" Samsung monitor (monitor as primary display and laptop display as secondary display) and the Dell Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The Kensignton docking station attaches to the M1530 via USB.
My question is, is it safe for me to detach the docking station when the M1530 is booted up and running? What about detaching the monitor? Except when I have an external USB harddrive turned on, there is not anything in my tray icons to indicate (as far as I can tell) that any hardware needs to be safely removed.
I have a 2nd AC adapter in my den separate from my home office, but I so rarely take the laptop mobile in the house since I power down first. Please let me know whether I am being too cautious, and if it is safe to detach the docking station and monitor while running any precautions that I should take. I do have my XPS backed up via Ghost if a problem should happen.
Dell :: Running Mine Without A Battery?
Aug 6, 2009So the other day I decided to actually read through the crap that dell gives you (safety and precautions stuff) and in there it said with the new lithium ion batteries its actually better to not let them die and keep them above 40%.
In turn I decided the best way to do this is by charging them fully then just taking them out and letting my computer run off of the outlet.
Worked so far for me and this will prevent charging/discharging my batteries constantly. Anyone else done this? Any negatives to this (other than the obvious, which is if power is disconnected it will turn off). My computer is a studio XPS 1640 by the way.

Mar 7, 2010Hey guys just got my xps 1645 and im having throttling issues but not so much when plugged in but when running on batteries. I play cod4 and when i start game when plugged in it seems to be a bit juddery at first kind of just stop and start gameplay but then seems to smooth out after a min or two. (I updated bios to ao7 and rang dell asked them for 130 psu and the tech told me there was no longer an issue with my model in my country (crap) i just hung up. but i will ring back when i have time and demand one (im within my rights ya??) Anyway when i plug out during game play the game lags badly going down to like 10 or 15 fps as opposed to 60 fps plugged in (aa off) anyone any ideas??

The computer came with a lightscribe drive and is removable since it also came with a empty filler for the optical drive. Is it ok to remove the drive and/or plug it in while the computer is on ? Same thing w/ the battery... is it ok to pop the battery out when the computer is on AC power, or put the battery back in when the computer is plugged in ?

Mar 6, 2013I have a problem with my Latitude E6430 i7-3720QM upgraded to Windows 8,, Bios A09, 8 core...Fan is constantly running and drying the battery out. Tem range between 60-70C. All tests from Dell webpage passed successfully. Tests from Intel Diagnostic tools passed. However, fun is always running, lap top is warm and battery goes down very quickly, in an hour. Under windows 7 it used to last much longer. I even did a clean install of Windows 8 and the problem persists

Mar 14, 2013I have a Studio 1737 running Windows Vista Home Service Pack 2. I'm running the latest BIOS and all of my drivers are up to date.
When the AC adapter is unplugged and I'm running on battery power the whole system lags. It also turns of when unplugged without warning after about 15 minutes.
Also, I get these error messages in my event viewer a couple of times an hour:

Jan 15, 2010how many people are running Windows 7 and/or Windows Vista on their MBP?
How's the performance of Windows on MBP through bootcamp? Any compatibility issue? I have a few software for PC (i.e.: Nikon Capture NX2, Lightroom, Photoshop CS4, etc.,) and would prefer to run it on Windows w/o having to rebuy it.
Mainly would use the laptop for those purposes, but MBP has that cool factor vs PC laptops heehhe
I might use it occasionally for games (i.e. WOW). Ofcourse surfing the internet on OSX is not an issue.

Jun 18, 2009I have my MBP setup with an external monitor and everything is fine except that when I'm using two programs, the toolbar (very top bar on the screen) doesn't move.
I know that I can go to display preferences and select which screen has the bar but what I'd like to do is have say Photoshop on one screen with its bar and InDesign on the other with its own bar. Is this not possible?

Mar 24, 2009I've hooked my Macbook Pro 15" to an external Dell monitor, keyboard and mouse and everything seems to be working fine - I can put the laptop to 'sleep', then wake it up via the external keyboard and then use the external monitor as the main monitor with the laptop screen 'asleep'.
All working fine, but only when I'm using the power adapter. If I try and run from just the battery the laptop keeps going back to sleep. It 'wakes', but after a couple of seconds goes back to sleep.

This was done on an early 2009 white Macbook, with Vista SP2. Your mileage may vary. I'm not responsible for any damage or loss of files. On that note, always remember to backup data before doing a reformat!
First of all, I booted from the OS X Install disc, went into Disk Utility, clicked on the hard drive and selected Partition. From there, I created a new single partition, under options I selected Master Boot Record table. After it was done I rebooted, holding the ALT/Option key until I got into the boot manager, and I ejected the OS X disc and inserted the Windows disc (I am using the original Vista RTM disc in this case, and I installed SP1 and SP2 later)...........

Mar 19, 2009I know this isn't a cell phone forum but it IS the Apple sub-section so I don't know for a more suitable spot for it.
Anyone have the iPhone 3.0 OS up and running? I just downloaded it a couple of minutes ago and am installing it right now on my iPod Touch to play around with. I'm not sure I want to load it on my phone yet because it states it is impossible (or difficult) to go from 3.0 back to 2.2.1. I am interested in some of the phone features but I believe I will wait for the actual release.
More hits than misses in my opinion but still one feature that I wanted to become built into the "phone" page was voice dialing. Third party apps technically get the job done but I don't want to go scrolling through apps trying to find it. Landscape texting and MMS were my favorite of the announced features.

Jun 20, 2009I absolutely love the new Macbook Pro 13" hardware. The unibody case and high quality panel makes me want to buy one right now. Nobody really offers anything similar. The problem for me, however is the fact that it comes with and runs OS X, and as far as I understand I will need to use Apple software (bootcamp) to run Windows. Is it at all possible to modify the computer to run Windows exclusively? And if I do run Windows through Apple software, are there any limitations to what I can do there or is it exactly the same as on a regular PC laptop? Running OS X is not an option, as alot of very specialized software I use is Windows only and I frankly dislike Apple OS.
