View 10 RepliesI'm planning on getting NIS 4 (Mac Edition) for my MBP, which now has Snow Leopard. My question is on if anyone has NIS installed and if any major problems occur for you when running it. I read the FAQ page on Symantec's website and it states that several portions of NIS do not function in SL, but wondering if it causes other compatibility issues.
I know that lots of people claim Mac's don't need security software but I'm one of those people that are a bit paranoid when it comes to online interactions, especially since I do quite a few purchases on the Internet.
Before anyone tells me to use the search function. I did. Except the results it brought up kept giving me 404 errors, and not being well versed in tech lingo, I have no idea what they are.
All I'm asking is people's opinion on what the perceived best antivirus program there is out there that works on both operating systems.
I just got a Pavilion dv6tqe, and there was an issue with the Norton Internet Security SONAR protection that required me to remove the Norton software and then re-install. However, after I did this, the fingerprint scanner no longer works. The computer says there are no biometric devices installed on the computer. How can I go about fixing this problem?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI see on the Apple site I can get this package for $169 for a single license. I can also get iwork09/ilife09 for $79 each (so $160). Why would I buy this package if I am already a MBP user with OS X 10.5? Is this only meant for those that haven't upgraded to Leopard? Shouldn't they offer some type of package for those of us who bought our MBP within the last year?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to windows 8 from Windows Vista Home Basic. My problem is that on the windows action centre, I get the report that my antivirus and firewall are off and I can't switch them on. I am using Norton 360. Is there a way to solve this? In my Norton, the are both ON. How can I solve these issues, I'm not feeling safe when I go online.
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust wondering whether those that use Windows on their Mac spend most of their time in OSX, Windows, 50:50 etc...
Personally I haven't installed Windows on my Mac yet, but am thinking about it.....
I got the keyboard Eject key to work. Post has been updated accordingly.
This was done on an early 2009 white Macbook, with Vista SP2. Your mileage may vary. I'm not responsible for any damage or loss of files. On that note, always remember to backup data before doing a reformat!
First of all, I booted from the OS X Install disc, went into Disk Utility, clicked on the hard drive and selected Partition. From there, I created a new single partition, under options I selected Master Boot Record table. After it was done I rebooted, holding the ALT/Option key until I got into the boot manager, and I ejected the OS X disc and inserted the Windows disc (I am using the original Vista RTM disc in this case, and I installed SP1 and SP2 later)...........
I absolutely love the new Macbook Pro 13" hardware. The unibody case and high quality panel makes me want to buy one right now. Nobody really offers anything similar. The problem for me, however is the fact that it comes with and runs OS X, and as far as I understand I will need to use Apple software (bootcamp) to run Windows. Is it at all possible to modify the computer to run Windows exclusively? And if I do run Windows through Apple software, are there any limitations to what I can do there or is it exactly the same as on a regular PC laptop? Running OS X is not an option, as alot of very specialized software I use is Windows only and I frankly dislike Apple OS.
View 10 Replies View Relatedi am planning on running windows xp on my mac (dual boot); do you lose control of the fan speed? multi-touch(specifically, right click)? calibration profile?
i can't seem to find it anywhere online.
I'm going to uni next year to study CSc and have been told nearly every system they run is an XP machine. I also checked what software they run, and it turns out the majority aren't available for the mac. I asked them what would be best for the course and they told me I would get better support if I had a PC and that there may be workarounds for macs. However, the person I spoke to (head of faculty) has no experience whatsoever with OS X.
Anyway, the thing is I want to keep my current macbook mainly because I find it hard to part with and the second being I don't have the cash to dish out on another notebook of comparable quality.
The question: Which version of Windows (XP/Vista/7) runs best on a Macbook?
By this I mean which has the greater support (drivers), and is most stable to work with (incl/ battery life, less glitches etc).
Also, will Snow Leopard provide better compatibility with Windows and how? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide me with.
Im aware that you dont really need any antivirus etc for the MAC (for now anyway!), but how secure is the internet connection? Im new to the MAC and have always used PCs before.
I currently have a Netgear Rangemax router, which has been perfect from day 1. The router is set up with WPA-PSK security, with NAT etc enabled. Its always been fine with my PC.
Nevertheless, I regularly use Internet banking etc - will I still be safe to continue (with the same router etc) when I get my MacBook?
As much as I hate apple for the raping prices and locking down systems, this would really make up for the lack of things the ipad can't do.

I've been on here considering getting a Macbook for sometime, and I finally got one!
A few questions for a new user:
-As far as security, what kind of Firewall should I set up, it comes with three options and none of them sounded right?
-Is there any word processing software that comes with my Mac?
-Any things I should do to it right now to make it as fast as possible? (Certain settings, delete some programs, etc)
Recently, my HP Envy M6 has been intermittently losing internet when running on battery - it's always fine when plugged in, however. I've run the wifi manual diagnostics and nothing is detected.
I'm running windows 8.1 and the model number is Model:E0R92EA#ABU
I want to buy a macbookpro laptop. Because I have to work with windows as well I am trying to get a sense of the processor speed running on Mac under parallels or vmware, especially on the 2.8Ghz or 3.06Ghz (but not only) processors.
Can you run super_pi (you can find it from one of the links at the bottom on this page: [url] in the windows virtual machine (parallels or vmware) with 2M digits and then post the following information:
- processor speed
- software used (parallels or vmware)
- windows os host (XP or Vista or W7)
- super_pi result (2M digits),
Thinking about getting a 15" MBP for the great hardware design and ability to still run whatever OS I choose. Not an Apple "fanboy," so to speak, but I appreciate the design (and ~7-hour battery life).
Unless I can get Evernote up and running the way I like, I'll need to use Microsoft OneNote quite a bit. My question is this -- given that I've never worked with OS virtualization / VMs before, just how seamless is VirtualBox running any given Windows operating system with Office running inside of that? Would my OneNote notebooks just be saved somewhere in my home directory in OS X, readily accessible for backups and the like?
When my Dell XPS 12 Ultrabook in in tablet mode and i wake it up, it asks me to press ctrl-alt-del or the Windows Security button. What/Where is the Windows Security Button? without it I have to open it to computer mode, press ctrl-alt-del to sign in and then convert back to tablet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWas toying with the idea of getting a 15" MacBook Pro, but as OneNote is a major application with me, dual-booting with Windows 7 like I'm running now, or using Parallels, is required.
What kind of battery life are you guys getting with Parallels / Fusion (or running Windows natively via Boot Camp)?
I have the following problem: I set up an Administrator Account with password security and then add a Dell Security with fingerpint security. Now, I cannot access the Windows. The problem is the TPM cannot be connected or something like that. The scan says it accepts the scanned finger, and password is also Ok. How can I disable secure access or reset password, disable fingerprint control, etc. In BIOS I do not find any possibility to disable fingerpint but TPM activation/deactivation is there.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Installed Windows 8 on my Dell Inpiron N5110 Laptop. It was working fine but since last 3 or 4days it is having some issue. Each time when i start my PC it shows me an error with blue screen which has written

I tried Re Installing Windows 8 but still the same issue. Also tried Installing Windows 7 but When Windows 7 Installation Finishes the System Restarts and Shows a blue Purple (Dark Blue) saying Your System BIOS is not ACPI Compliant.
I have tried Installing Windows 7 and Windows 8 several time but still the issue persists.
My Dell Inspiron 1525's touchpad no longer works. It worked fine this morning. I updated security essentials and windows and then it stopped working after updates had installed. I tried system restore and it still does not work. I can use a corded USB mouse, but I really need the touchpad.
