Dell :: AC Adapters (E-series)
Mar 27, 2009
I have seen some AC Adaptors for latitude e-series (Latitude E6500 & E6400) and they was very thin and light.
However, yesterday I received my M4400 and the AC is too big and heavy in comparation with que latitude ACs.
Reviewing the orders, I've seen that Latitude's have "450-11869 Power Cord: European 90W AC Adaptor 2 pin" whereas M4400 have "450-11970 Power Supply And Power Cord: Worldwide 130W AC Adapter with European Power Cord".

I need to get a extra power adapter for my M6400 Covet for home use. Taking the 210 watt power supply between the office and home is starting to take a toll on me (I take public transportation daily).
The 210 watt power adapter is only available with purchase of a port replicator. I could save some money an get a 130 or 90 watt power adapter, but I'm not sure what the downsides are. Does the 130 or 90 watt power adapter just take longer to charge? If the 130 or 90 watt power adapters degrade my performance, then I won't consider it.
What are other M6400 Covet owners doing for extra power supplies? For those of you who are using 130 or 90 watt power adapters, did you notice any decrease in performance?

if I could use my girlfriend's Dell Studio 15 adapter for my HP HDX 16 notebook. The connector looks te same, and the volts/amps are on both adapters approximately the same.
Is there a chance I'd damage my HP notebook or her Dell adapter? Or can an adapter never damage a laptop, it just works or it doesn't?
And if it is possible, is it also possible the other way around? (my HP adapter to her Dell notebook?)

I m trying to install ESXi 5.0 as a VM in LATITUDE E6430 ,but it gives me the following error
No network adapters were detected.Either no network adapters are physically connected to the system or a suitable driver could not be located.A third party driver may be required.
I have found that DELL customized image is available but only for servers (tried that too but not working)...

I have the blu-ray 5920g with bluetooth and a 8600, but no turboboost.
Not that its a massively great feature, but I'm guessing my motherboard has an empty spot where the turboost should be? and while these adapters are floating around I'd like to chuck one in there.
What is compatible withe the 5290g. I know turboboost never really took of, so was there only one type? or am I limited to the specific tuboboost adapter from another 5920g, or can I put in others?
Also how would it interact with readyboost and ram in 32bit and 64 bit OSes?
For example You can't go past 4GB of readyboost in 32 bit, even if your system ram is 1gb or 4gb, the max is always 4gb.
With 4gb of ram and 4gb of readboost will you still be able to use a further 2gb of turbooost in a 32 bit OS? Or are readyboost and turboost seen as the same as far as the OS is concerned, thus you will eiether have to use 2gb of readboosy and 2gb of turboost or 4gb of readyboost and no turboboost.

I'm a proud new owner of a MBP 13-inch. couple of matters.
(1) A good skin/sleeve/cover/case to protect it on the go. Ideally I'd like a very lightweight and elegant skin or shell that's on all the time to protect the exterior from wear and tear, without trapping too much heat.
(2) I need a sleek padded case to carry the unit and typical accessories (charger, adapters, mouse) and other small items.
(3) I'm looking for a convenient laptop stand for my desk to set the MBP alongside an external monitor.

So at first I was confused but now I understand. First official, completely top to bottom support for all mobility cards (in the specified range of course) will come out with 10.3. What they didn't say that SOME mobility cards will be already supported with 10.2 and our " Dell (Studio XPS 16 Mobility Radeon HD 4670)" is on that list.
This was posted in another thread, but this wasn't the focus. They also have beta 10.3s...but I thought it was neat that official 10.2 WHQL certified drivers supported our card ....

my friend is thinking about purchasing a new laptop for his mother. The HP DM3 laptops look to the best solution so far since they are both lightweight and have great battery life, something he thinks she'll appreciate. One thing i'm not sure about is their ability to run Adobe Photoshop CS4 smoothly.
I don't use Photoshop very often and when I do, it's on my laptop, which is pretty decent in terms of specifications. Will the program run fine on a laptop with a Intel CULV or AMD Neo processor and integrated graphics? Which leads me to my next question:
Which Pavilion laptop would you recommend? Are they both similar to each other than the processors?

Which series is better? The B series is for business. This series is only 5.9lbs with 15.4'. On the other hand, the CW series is around 5.5 lbs and it is only 14'. What do you think? Have you ever try B series? 15.4' is pretty good for movie.

I am having an issue that I can replicate on any E-series laptop and on XP, Vista and Win7.
When using A2DP audio (headphones) the BT370 adapter will just randomly disappear. I can stream audio for any amount of time, 5 minutes, an hour, all day long. So it is completely random.
It is no longer listed under device manager and turning on and off the toggle switch does not bring it back. The only thing that helps is rebooting .....

I'd like to buy an M1530 but it hasn't been refreshed in forever. Does anybody know if Dell is phasing out this series to replace it with the Studio XPS series?
I'd like to get any computer of comparable build quality, i.e., with a magnesium alloy frame but options around this price range seem limited. I don't want a Thinkpad

I have been the happy user of many a Dell Latitude over the years as my employer has chosen Dell as the global IT Hardware provider.
I have been enjoying a D410 with XP without much hassle and have now been asked to choose between a 6400, 4300 or 4200. I have written off the 6400 already - I think - as it is too big and I like the portability of my current D410.
Also I have an Alienware m9750 at home for gaming and an old Sony Vaio FS Series that I have bequeathed to my GF, so I am chosing the new Latitude for business only.

I have a theory on the possible cause of the latency issues on the E and M series Dell's and a potential solution.
I usualy don't post on theory. I'd rather prove the solution beforehand and just post the tutorial, but unfortunately I'm in the middle of huge deployment and my spare time is extremely slim for now.
If there's a few of you who are willing to run some group testing I can guide you on what we need to do.
It just involves some test benchmarks before, a (possible) fix, followed by test benchmarks to establish if this actually resolves the issue.
Some important criteria;
- OS is Vista x86 or x64
- Have a very good understanding of Windows, particularly how to backup and restore your system (if needed). In other words an advanced user.
I'm going to need to count on your honesty on this one. I won't have much time to get you out of a mess if you land into one.
Would be good to have a good cross section of systems ranging from E64/6500's and M's both with onboard and discreet GPUs.................

I am able to get the Studio XPS 1647 for $1634 ($1552 after Bing Cashback) that has the following:
- Intel Core i5 540M
- 4GB RAM
- 500 GB HDD
- RGBLED LCD display
- Blu-ray
- Bluetooth
- 6-cell battery
Would this be considered a good deal, or does anyone know of any other deals (e-value codes, coupon codes, etc.) for the Studio XPS 1647?
Also, I noticed some people are wanting the ATI 5000 series for the SXPS 16. What are the benefits of the 5000 series over the 4670 and what is the holdup? Does it require a new MB layout or something? I will mainly be using my computer for Internet/email, photo editing, and occasional HD video and DVD editing...I am not a PC gamer. So, would it worth waiting for the 5000 series? I'm sure the 4670 will suit me just fine, but I've read that it is 'last year's technology' and I generally like to try to get the latest available technology at the time of purchase...

Just wondering what we use in terms of Power Management, whether its part of the OS or its Dell's Control Point Manager, and whether it affects the fans kicking in or not under comparable settings.
I use an M4400 & an E6400, both have the latest BIOS revisions, and both use Vista's native applet, selected to "Balanced".

I looking to buy a new Latitude E-series but I have one worry. During the years with D-series I have built up a "infrastructure" of AC adapters in my home, car and my offices so I dont have to carry around these bricks. My wife and kids use them too since we all have compatible Dells. Very convenient indeed.
Looking at the specs for the E-series adapter it uses the same voltage as the D-series (19.5V) and the power tip looks the same(?). So, can it be so wonderful that the E-series can use the D-series adapter? I don't want to shell out money on 4-5 new adapters...

I have a power light on the front but screen wont come back. Have held the power button down for 10 seconds then retried it but nothing. It is plugged in just no screen or activity.
